DECIDE BEFORE YOU RIDE

Ride Safe Ride Smart scan everything to stay alive on the mean streets when riding your motorcycle or driving your car. You should be especially aware at intersections because there are many things to scan constantly to make it to your destination. Warning signs like cross traffic, traffic lights, merging traffic, surface hazards, directional signs, oncoming traffic, your rear-view mirror, or even people in crosswalks. We all have choices to make on the mean streets and in life. We need a plan of action.

Just last month I knew someone who lost their life in a motorcycle accident at no fault of their own. Someone pulled out in front of him. A terrible time for family friends and all who knew him. He was a part of our motorcycle community. When I talked to his family, I asked did they call Attorney Fran Haasch to help them with this tragic accident. His older brother told me “no we googled a personal injury attorney and called 800 Joe Attorney who was a random type of Attorney”. I told him I’m so sorry for your loss, but I said to myself, wow, again someone’s family member didn’t know to

call Attorney Fran Haasch - the attorney who has over 20 year’s experience with motorcycle accidents; is an advocate for helping bikers navigate the law, healthcare issues, insurance claims and the repair or replacement of a motorcycle. Fran cares and fights for bikers’ rights every day and also supports the biker community by giving back to charity and community events all

I created the concept, Decide Before You Ride. I would like to launch this promotion because Attorney Fran Haasch isn’t just my Attorney, she is your Attorney too. Stop by any LawFran booth/tent set up at most biker events and ask for 5 business cards. Give these cards to your loved ones and explain why they should call Fran if you were ever put in a situation where you couldn’t call yourself.

year long. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard this. I’ve heard this same comment before when a family or friend didn’t know that their loved one would want them to call Fran. Attorney Fran Haasch cares about all of us. She makes sure we publish Ride Safe Ride Smart from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation every month here in Born to Ride Magazine. She wants us to be Safe and Smart and stay alive.

I am doing this on my own because I care about our riding community and all my friends like you reading this who Ride and drive. You can even stop by Frans office in Palm Harbor to pick up a few business cards. Help me help our biker community Decide Before You Ride and ask for 5. Get 5 Fran Haasch business cards and give them to your loved ones who will know to make the call for you if anything happens. Let them know before you go. Get your 5 today. Call : 866-LAW-FRAN or call me 813-661-9402 if you would like to help me. Thank you very much

Twenty-five years! A quarter of a century! That’s 300 months or 1,303 weeks or 13,140,000 minutes… well, I’m sure you get the idea. Twenty-five years is a super long time to be planning one of the most popular motorcycle events in Sarasota county, Florida. Of course, I’m talking about Thunder By The Bay!

Who is the person who has acted as a bright spotlight to pull this event together for the past twenty-five years? No one other than Lucy Nicandri, who tells us, “My goal this year was to continue to grow the event and keep it fresh by including some new attractions while continuing to raise the bar on our fundraising efforts.”

Speaking of fundraising, “I came up with an idea to hold a ‘25 for 25’ Giving Campaign,” Lucy tells us. “I reached out to several local community and private foundations. Just before Christmas, I received a phone call from the James M. Doss Charitable Foundation confirming a generous donor match, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000! They love the event and they know the history. I was overjoyed!” You can donate to this campaign via the Festival website or scan the QR code seen here. Bidding is also open online for the Festival’s silent auction until 5 pm on February 21! Be prepared for several new additions to Thunder by the Bay this year! Adrenaline HarleyDavidson will have a very large tent display selling retail and a large inventory of new and used motorcycles. Kory Souza, bike builder extraordinaire, will be set up inside Robarts Arena with a “Builder’s Row” staged for your

25 YEARS OF THUNDER 25 YEARS OF THUNDER

THUNDER BY THE BAY

SARASOTA, FLORIDA

perusal and amazement. On Saturday, Kory will also be hosting a motorcycle stereo sound-off competition that will surely be a crowd favorite!

Bob Poneleit of Hap’s Cycles in Sarasota, will be setting up his display of personal vintage motorcycles. His knowledge of this stable of antique iron is truly awe-inspiring. Another crowd favorite is Born To Ride’s Choppertown Live ride-in bike show. Choppertown Live will be set up during the three-day event and will be organizing a Saturday custom chopper ride-in bike show.

“Speaking of Born To Ride, I want to thank Ron and Debbie Galletti,” Lucy says. “Since day one, twenty-five years ago, they have been integral in the success of TBTB. Ron and Debbie have been on what I refer to as a rollercoaster ride with me since the very beginning. We have been together through cold weather, COVID, relocating out of downtown, tough economic times, and through thick and thin, they have been right by my side, always having the needs of Suncoast Charities for Children in the forefront.”

On Saturday and Sunday during Thunder by the Bay this year, freestyle FMX and BMX stunt riders will offer high-flyin’ entertainment, showing off their superb bike riding skills. Also on Saturday, Hap’s Cycle Sales will be organizing a slow race. Personally speaking, Bob Poneleit is one of the BEST slow rider competitors I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m pretty sure he’s going to show the crowd how it’s done and how to win a slow race. Better yet, there will be cash prizes

for 1st and 2nd place competitors!

You’ll also find activities for the kids. Lucy explains, “There will be a bounce house, face painting, and performances by Universal Championship Wrestling.”

Since this is a major fundraiser for Suncoast Charities, there will be a gate fee of $15 per day, per person. Advance tickets are on sale at $10 per day through the 16th of February. These tickets can be purchased on the TBTB website or at Adrenaline Harley-Davidson.

Lucy adds, “With more attractions and two major headliner acts (38 Special - Saturday 8:00 pm and Colt Ford Sunday - 3:00 pm) $15 remains an affordable gate admission. Limited VIP tickets can also be purchased from the website.” Onsite full-service camping is available for $35 per day so bring your RV or tent and make it a great weekend.

So, why are we doing this? Lucy explains, “Over the past 24 years, $2.3 million has been raised for children, teens, and adults with special needs. The funds raised stay in the local community. There are seven different agencies Suncoast Charities supports. Funding is directed towards programs and services, as well as necessary capital expenditures. An excellent example is the Florida Center for Early Childhood. Months before hurricane Ian, they submitted a request for their classrooms to get hurricane windows and doors. Suncoast Charities provided funding to the Suncoast Foundation

to cover the cost. A month and a half later, hurricane Ian hit. I can only imagine the damage to those classrooms had those upgrades not been made.” Program and service funding help support speech and occupational therapies, mental health therapies, early childhood education, respite care, and more. Over 8,000 clients, from Manatee to Charlotte and DeSoto counties, benefit from these programs.

The Haven, one of several agencies that receive funding from Suncoast Charities, is part of Sunday’s “United We Ride” motorcycle charity ride. Riders will register at Adrenaline Harley-Davidson in Sarasota and stop at The Haven. Their clients will greet the motorcyclists and they are very excited for this event to take place, which will definitely warm the hearts of those attending this yearly ride. Registration is $20 per rider which includes gate admission and preferred parking at the Festival, complimentary coffee and doughnuts, and a free gift for the first 200 registered riders. You can pre-register now online.

To sum it up, we asked Lucy her thoughts on this 25th anniversary of Thunder by the Bay. “Knowing firsthand the positive impact this

Festival has made over the years, I hope it will continue for years to come. Thunder by the Bay has experienced a lot of changes over the years, however, the one thing that never changes is our goal to help local children, teens, and adults with special needs.”

Thank you, Lucy, for your dedication and commitment to Thunder by the Bay. All of us at Born To Ride Magazine look forward to seeing you at Thunder by the Bay this February 17th through the 19th at Sarasota Fairgrounds.

IT’S THAT TIME A YEAR AGAIN WHEN THE COOLER WEATHER PASSES, THE DAYS GET LONGER, AND WE ALL CAN GET OUT AND RIDE IN THE FLORIDA SUNSHINE WITHOUT THE 90 PERCENT HUMIDITY WATERING US DOWN.

It’s also a great time of year because it means Choppertown Live is coming back to Thunder by the Bay in Sarasota, Florida. That’s right, Born To Ride Motorcycle Media is bringing Choppertown Live back this February 17th through the 19th and it’s going to be better than ever!

While most of America is covered in cold weather and snow in February, Choppertown Live has become the “go to” chopper party to attend to get your chopper-fix on. This isn’t your typical chopper outing as this event has so much going on, there’s literally something for everyone. Even your weird Uncle Harold.

The first thing that stands out are the world class custom bike builders that’ll take the stage and show off some of their mindblowing builds. We’ll have the legendary Brian Buttera of Buttera Metal Werks there with a chopper build that has put him on the bike building map. Brian hit the motorcycle world in the mouth a few years back when his first custom build called “Deadliner” took him literally all around the world, from Sturgis to Zurich and finally sent him to the Bike Builder World Championships in Abu Dhabi where he took home top honors.

We’ll also feature Eric Allard from FNA Customs Cycles with a couple of his wildly fantastic builds that have turned the chopper world on its ear. His most recognizable build, the “Glam Fairy” is widely known throughout the industry. Its aggressive styling with ultra-high front forks, and other exaggerated features, gives the chopper a uniquely beautiful silhouette of its own. So much so, that this chopper took home awards from the Born Free Show a few years back. His chopper designs have made such an impression in the industry that he was invited back to Born Free 14 this summer. Another builder everybody loves is the infamous Yogi from Yogi’s Garage in Orlando, Florida. Yogi always shows

up with a few builds that really separate themselves from many of the chopper builders. His amazing choppers are based on old school Harley panhead and shovelhead engines and are stylistically psychedelic. We’ve only highlighted three great builders, but you can bet that Choppertown Live will showcase amazing bike builders from all across the country.

Along with all the great builders and choppers they’ll bring to the party, Choppertown Live will include a visit from Billy Lane’s Sons of Speed. Come out to meet the racers and check out the awesome vintage racing machines that they pilot at Sons of Speed events in Florida, Tennessee and South Dakota. You’ll be able to get an up close and personal look at these time machines, some date back to 1910.

To top all this off, Born To Ride Motorcycle Media along with James Irwin “A Biker Helping Bikers” will host a Ten Class Ride-in Bike Show. This amazing ride-in show will have classes to include any bike, make and model. Classes will include: Best Chopper, Bagger, Street Cruiser, Old School, Import, Ladies Ride, Radical, Custom, Anything Goes, and Every Day Rider!

They’ll also have a special award for the Best Paint and of course, there is going to be the “Best in Show” Award too! So, get those bikes shined up and prepped, it’s panning out to be a great event in itself, and you’re not going to want to miss it.

Born To Ride has been doing Choppertown

Live for a few years now, and we’re especially excited about this one. A building that’s packed to the seams with great choppers and chopper builders, along with fantastic vendors and an incredible ride-in bike show make this one something special. Whatever you ride, and whatever it is about motorcycling that sparks that passion from within, Choppertown Live will have something for you. Mark the date on your calendar for February 17th through the 19th at Sarasota Fairgrounds, and we’ll see you there!

HAVE YOU MET JAMES IRWIN?

TELL US A LITTLE OF YOUR BACKGROUND AND EXPLAIN WHAT A CSA IS?

I am in financial services. I help people avoid transferring money unknowingly and unnecessarily. Sure when you say financial services it can have many meanings. Of course we help people invest their money and find places for them to put their money. What I do that’s UNIQUE is I help people find places where they could be transferring money unnecessarily and then I bring that back to them. First, to increase their accumulated assets to make their future more solid. And secondly, to help people increase their present lifestyle so that the journey along the way is pleasant. That is what I do. I help people find money that they are losing unnecessarily.

A CSA is a special designation. The Society of Certified Senior Advisors (SCSA) educates and certifies professionals who work with seniors. The Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)® credential applies to professionals who are able to demonstrate their competence and knowledge of working with older adults into their professional practices. By creating a network of qualified professionals, SCSA strives to create a strong and safe environment for seniors and those working with them. The Society of Certified Senior Advisors (SCSA) educates and certifies professionals who work with seniors. The Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)® CSAs understand how to build effective relationships with older adults because they have a broad-based knowledge of the health, social, and financial issues that are important to older adults. Through certification, Certified Senior Advisors agree to uphold the Highest ethical standards for the benefit and protection of the health and welfare of older adults. Currently there are less than 3400 individuals nationally in financial services that have earned this recognition.

In addition I am also a chapter president of AFEA The Nation’s leader in non-profit financial education! AFEA is a an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, AFEA’s mission is toinform and empower Americans to take control of their finances by providing comprehensive financial education in communities nationwide.

A BIKER HELPING BIKERS, TELL US ABOUT THAT CONCEPT AND WHY YOU ARE AN AVID RIDER?

It’s a way to give back to the community I love. Bikers have told me in the past they don’t want to work with the suits of society when it comes to financial services. Even though my national HQ is located in the most prestigious building in Tampa loaded in suits, you’ll never see me in one. I usually ride my Harley to work

and enjoy setting of car alarms in the garage from the rumble of my bike.

I got my first minibike at age six. Had a brief sponsorship from Ducati racing sport bikes and have owned numerous Harleys. There have been only a few years when I have not owned a motorcycle in my lifetime. The feeling and therapy it affords me is priceless. I will never stop riding.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO YOU TO HELP VETERANS GET EVERYTHING THEY ARE ENTITLED TO AND GIVE US A FEW EXAMPLES HOW YOU CAN HELP?

Veterans are the reason we enjoy our freedom! A country that creates them needs to take care of them. We can never THANK them enough. I have found many get frustrated trying to understand what they are eligible for. The general information that are given is like trying read an IRS tax code. I have helped many enhanced their health benefits, reduce Medicare cost, gain disability benefits and help with long term care benefits. As a CSA we are educated on ways to help.

WHAT IF WE ARE ON MEDICARE OR KNOW SOMEBODY WHO IS? WHAT CAN WE DO TO AVOID SCAMS?

Just call me 833-467-2865 it would take pages to list all the ways people get victimize and many don’t know till they use the plan. I get calls everyday about this. As a CSA a lot of people who were mislead get referred to us. I offer unbiased advice based on your needs not mine.

healthinsurance65.com IS YOUR WEBSITE, YOU CAN HELP WITH RETIREMENT INSURANCE, MEDICARE, SOCIAL SECURITY,VA AND LIFE PLANNING AS WELL AS INVESTING IN THE FUTURE.HOW IMPORTANT IS THE TRUST LEVEL THAT YOU CAN BE THAT PERSON TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR CLIENTS FUTURE?

Its very important! My services are unique since they is no cost to the client and without judgement. I have worked with folks with hundreds of dollars to well know celebrities with millions of dollars. Everybody get’s the same treatment. Most Financial Advisors charge a fee just to talk, I don’t. In the past before slowing down in my sixties I was for several years the #1 producer in the country with many well-know insurance companies. I was always unbiased and did what was best for the client not me. This is how I built my business. My dad alway said to me “ You brought this on yourself” and “What goes around comes around” and of course “One day you’re gonna thank me for this” So this upbringing has earned me a blemish free reputation.

TELL US ABOUT THE MOVIE YOU WERE INVOLVED IN THE” THE BABY BOOMER DILEMMA”?

The move is a documentary critically acclaimed a must see by Forbes magazine among others. The trailer to the movie is on my website www.healthinsurance65.com anyone who goes there can request a FREE movie streaming pass since it is no longer in theaters.

YOU OFFER A FREE BOOK MISSION ONE MILLION ON YOUR WEBSITE HOW DO WE GET IT AND WHY READ IT?

It’s an interesting short informative read. Not dull and boring. Everyone who reads it or watches the Movie has said they are glad they did! I guess eventually someone will give it negative reviews but so far all positive!

IS IT TRUE YOU OFFER MONEY SCHOOL WEBINARS SEEMS LIKE A GREAT WAY TO LEARN AND THEY ARE ONLY 20 MINUTES FREE OF CHARGE?

Yes the Money schools webinar invites are easy to watch and simplify complicated subjects free of charge. The book is for anyone wanting to get out of debt, build wealth, and create financial independence.

People will have a chance to meet you at Gibtown bike fest and Thunder by the Bay this year. WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO THEM AND WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS SHOULD THEY BE ASKING?

They can ask me anything love talking motorcycles. And they should be asking themselves if they current financial plan (Only works in good times?) Or (causes you stress?) Or (is your 401(k) now a 301(k) or a 201(k) If any of those questions are yes they don’t have the right financial plan.

As you know bikers are very charitable people giving back to the community in many meaningful ways. I’am of course a biker and that why with the help of many generous people we offer these FREE BOOKS ,WEBINARS, MOVIES and CONSULTATION. A biker helping biker that’s what its all about!

that he is famous for. See Letterfly.com to find out more.

Another skill this artist brings to the motorcycle community is as an entertaining speaker to enhance the experience during any Garage Night, H.O.G. chapter meetings, Born to Ride Radio on the HOG Radio network and at special Podcast events. Letterfly is also an author.

Custom bikes with pinstriping are not new. This benchmark of quality existed long before motorcycles; in the horsedrawn wagon and carriage making industry, Craftsmen took pride in their proficiency. To establish their product as superior, the finishing touch of accurate pinstriping made their output stand-apart from the rest. Hand-painted accent striping followed vehicle manufacturing into the gasoline era and onto virtually all the manufacturing assembly lines including the plethora of motorcycle makers.

Like playing the piano, the ability for an artist to create thin, accurate lines with paint develops over decades of providing this service to motorcycle, chopper, hot rod and automobile aficionados. The artist known as Letterfly has been lettering, painting, and striping in the traditional manner since the early seventies.

Letterfly provides this pinstriping service at his home/shop/studio right in Hillsborough County, Florida. You will also see his Gallery/Pinstriping booth set up at upcoming motorcycle events such as Thunder by the Bay and at customerdedicated

Harley=Davidson motorcycle dealerships because they know that hand painted artwork, delicate pinstripe designs, pictorials and inscriptions not only elevates pride in ownership, but is a source of fascination, plus the creative process is fun to watch.

No matter what sort of wheeled machine you have; touring bike, motor home, automobile, hot rod, custom motorcycle or even a guitar, Letterfly provides fanciful artwork, colorful swoops, handlettered inscriptions, a full-fledged mural or a mini portrait, gold leaf gilding and the old school hand-painted pinstriping

His first book Speedy hurled through havoc started as a way to honor his dad who had a Harley during World War II and went on to imprint his son on the importance of living an interesting life. The next book is called Hit the Road and Thrive and is a guidebook for readers in search of adventure, fulfillment and living the life of your dreams.

Talk about living the dream, during the summer months Letterfly enjoys a route of customer-dedicated Harley-Davidson stores from here to Philadelphia, Chicago, Galveston and back. He is at a different motorcycle dealership every week and is only a road trip away. See the blog page Travelog.Letterfly.com to find out more.

To schedule custom pinstripe artwork of your own or to rendezvous with the artist call 813-752-8063 or email Letterflyartiste@aol.com. The finishing touch of hand-painted custom paint will personalize your scoot, make “looking good” a reality and traveling down the road more fun.

In case you haven’t seen the memo, ‘lifted trucks are the new black’. Long gone are the days that pick ups were only thought to be driven by farm hands, cowboys and construction workers. Lifted Trucks are as mainstream and American as ‘baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and chevrolet’ and we know just the man to help you get that ‘oh so perfect’ ride height for your cargo crawler. Meet Jeremy Breher of Fidelis Automotive. Jeremy Breher has the confidence and the skill set to get things done quickly, effectively and correctly when it comes to not only lifting trucks, but with almost all things automotive. This is a mindset he brought with him after he served from 2007 to 2011 w the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving his tour of duty in Afghanistan, he came to a crossroads in life - Should he stay in the Marine Corps, or as another option, go back to school, get his degree and reenlist as an officer? He came to the conclusion that he could accomplish more for himself, and his country, by going back to school.

Being the go getter that Jeremy is, while attending school in 2012, he started Fidelity Automotive Services of Tampa. Through 2015 Jeremy ’burned the candle at both ends’ by attending school and running a business. His business became so successful that he decided to not reenlist and pursue a full time career in the automotive industry. In 2017, Jeremy started Fidelis Automotive in the heart of Brandon, Florida and he hasn’t looked back.

In the time span between 2017 and 2021 Jeremy and his capable crew at Fidelis Automotive have garnered quite a reputation for getting things done, quickly and correctly. They are able to tackle just about any issue from wheels to wiring on any make and model of vehicle, foriegn and domestic.

In the last couple years though, Fidelis Automotive has become the ‘go to place’ to get that pick up truck lifted to just about any height, in any manner that suits your particular taste. His specialized team has been in the ‘lifting’ game for many years. They are known to be the best in the business, and though it’s not about ‘speed’, they can typically get the job done in half the time of their competitors. Just as he once was as a Marine, Jeremy takes pride in himself, his team, his business and has the confidence in getting the mission done correctly for his client and customers.

Perseverance, dedication, courage, and devotion. These four words describe a woman who has been the pinnacle of a woman’s motorcycle club. Jennifer Chaffin created Leather & Lace MC 40 years ago and she still reigns as the club’s National President. Jennifer’s dedication has gained the respect of motorcycle clubs across the world.

Jennifer is passionate about riding motorcycles and the freedom it brings. In the early 1980s, it was time to create a woman’s motorcycle club that would encompass the passion she had for the freedom of the road.

What has evolved from her 40 years of hard work is an international Women’s Motorcycle Club that has broken barriers and attitudes.

As the club’s name depicts, ‘Leather’ is for the inner strength as well as the physical strength to handle their bikes. ‘Lace’ is for our femininity which is important to each of them. The Sisters of Leather & Lace MC are a strong, united group of passionate women who work hard in keeping the early vision alive and moving forward. Leather & Lace MC helps women and children in need all across the country.

LEATHER & LACE MC 40 YEARS & GOING STRONG! 1983 - 2023

Jennifer has stated, “We feel our children are our future. They will carry on our heritage. As it has been said before, ‘A small group of dedicated people can and do change the world.’”One member stated, “It is a monumental feeling when you’re sharing the wind with your Sisters – it still sends shivers through me!” The women of Leather & Lace MC are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, grandmothers, and great grandmothers.

Some members of Leather & Lace MC shared their reasons as to why they joined. this MC. Michele from Florida stated, “These are the strongest, proudest, truly real women I have ever met. Lace has become my family; I am proud to be a member. Sharing the wind builds strong, unbreakable bonds.”

Lin from Canada told us, “Being a part of this AMAZING motorcycle club has filled a part of my life that I did not even realize had a void. The Sisterhood is matched by none!” Another Sister said, “I had lost my own blood family, leaving me on my own. I needed family and that’s exactly what Lace has turned out to be! I can make a call and one of my Sisters will be at my side.”

This year marks the 40th years of Sisterhood for Leather & Lace MC. There are three events that should be a ‘MUST DO’ on your list for Daytona Bike Week. Check out the flyers!

Come see what the Leather & Lace MC Sisterhood is all about!

MONEY IS TIME

tendency to reflect back on our lives a bit. Maybe a lot of coulda, woulda, shoulda siturations. I’m figuring that’s normal with age. Something to think about. The majority of us work our asses off to build a comfortable future for ourselves. We slave away at jobs where we feel unappreciated, underpaid or plain old used as slave labor. Welcome to life, I’m told.

or leave there, that same job will have an ad out finding your replacement in the blink of an eye. You are disposable.

You can’t replace your life. You can’t make up time or catch up on something. Once time is gone, it’s gone for good. Making up time just takes away more time from you that you’ve already lost. Let that sink in. Time is not replaceable. Take for instance the way I look at the value of things.

Welcome to February, 2023. I want to start right off by reminding you to mark your calendars for two special events this month. Of course, there is February 14th which is Valentine’s Day. Time to remind that special someone you care or maybe find someone new. But if you spend it alone, no worries. You have a better chance at a drama-free day and having a little peace and quiet by yourself. Plus, it’s a money saver. Do what you want. See the positive in a potentially negative situation.

The second is the return of Choppertown Live at Thunder by the Bay in Sarasota. That’s on February 17th through the 19th. It’s always a great gathering if you’re looking to get a day out and see some really cool stuff. Ride your bike in or bring the van. Ya can’t lose with either one. Cooler weather has been upon us, so as you know, you might want to dust off them leathers when heading out for that ride.

On to a thought I’ve been thinking about lately. It’s about time management. As we all progress in years, we may have a

Just remember to take time in your life to find enjoyment, peace, and happiness. Time for you. Yes, I know, we all have bills to pay and working helps achieve that goal. But remember this. You know that job you kill yourself for and put in overtime at, sacrificing most of your time? When you die

If I find something I may be interested in purchasing, there is usually a dollar amount attached to that. Let’s say it costs $200. That may not sound bad for what it is your looking at. It might even be a bargain. I don’t look at the dollar amount. I look at the $200 and consider how long it takes me to earn that amount. How much of my time does it take? If I make $20 an hour, I ask if that item is worth ten hours of my time. Is it worth the labor I perform to make that $200? If you look at things in that perspective, you may gauge the value of things differently. It is said that time is money, but the saying should be that money is time. Things are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Well, with that said, get out there and live that life of yours. Hope your journeys are safe and enjoyable. Remember to check out Choppertown Live. There will be a lot of cool stuff there.

Until next time.

It’s a fabulous freaking February this month because I turn 30, my BTR friends. Yes, on the 14th Mike will have been dragging my feathered ass around this rock y’all call Earth for 360 months or 10,950 days. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time spent with you humans. People tell me that I should write a book about my escapades. I tell those few that it would be too much like work! One day Mike will have to rip out articles from the last 25 years and three different magazines that I’ve pecked out a lifetime of true stories for, put them together and send them to McGraw-Hill or Reuters for publishing.

Mike breaks in, “Not yet, you feathered piggy bank. You’re my hen that lays golden eggs and I’m saving them up for retirement. You may be 30, but you’ve got a lot more Polaroid poses and Hallmark movie moments yet to perform and peck about.”

I cackle, “You mean like the time the Fat Bird 3 was getting a new front tire and I wanted to tighten the loose nut behind the handlebars? Those guys at Eight Ball tires

BEHIND THE 8-BALL

at 7095 49th St. N. in Pinellas Park were awesome. They told me I only needed a screwdriver and not a wrench!”

Mike breaks in, “Good thing you didn’t need a wrench. The last time you used one you dropped it on the fender and sent me scrambling for touchup paint. Jody and Chris at Eight Ball tires are all about tread and traction. With thousands of tires in stock for every make and model, they’ve got the rubber you need to keep your scoot on the road. Those guys have been at that location for over a year and can get it done in less than two hours while you’re on their Wi-Fi, reading biker mags, playing pool or watching Motorsports on a big screen TV. Eight Ball tires will meet or beat any price you bring in. Tell them Spyke sent ya, and they’ll give you $25 off! Let’s face it, we all need tires, and these are the guys who will get it done professionally and save you money. Reach out to them on Google, Facebook or just give them a call 833–448–2255. Trust me, you’ll be happy with the good rubber they put on your scoot keeping it between your legs.” (End of shameless plug, - Ed)

I cackle, “Good rubber?? Between your legs??? Are they selling Trojans too? Now you’re sounding like a promoter of prophylactics! That reminds me of a joke; what do you call a person with 365 of them?”

Mike scratches his head and blurts out, “A hoarder of dreams?”

I cackle, “Well, you’re close. A man looking forward to a good year!

Speaking of another good year, this one started out with a kickass weekend in Gibtown. Now this month, we’ve got Thunder By The Bay on February 17-19 in Sarasota. I look forward to seeing all my southern friends and making many new ones that weekend. Every year the profits raised goes to a really great cause, the Suncoast Charities for Children. They specialize in bringing people together,

helping one another and raising awareness for locals in our community that require it the most; special needs kids and their kinfolk. Mike and I really enjoy hanging out with these families because they have so much love to show, lessons to share and dreams to achieve. I’m all about believing in your dreams, making smiles happen and so is this cause.”

Mike wipes his cheek and says in a highpitched voice, “Awww little buddy, there you go again making me all teary-eyed because of the good deeds that you do! Let us not forget about the musical headliners .38 Special and Colt Ford doing their part by putting smiles on thousands of people’s faces that weekend.”

I squawk, “Hell yeah! There will be lots of things to look at, see and do. I love all the vendors. Especially the foodie ones. They let me try out little bits and pieces of their goodness every time we walk by. It’s like going to a biker buffet!”

Mike babbles, “What do you mean? You eat like a bird! We have to walk by ten times for you to fill up, but I don’t mind walking, it’s good for my leg. Speaking of good for you, it’s time for your shower, some wind under your wings, my knees under the triple trees, and the Fat Bird 3 wheels rolling down the road on a new front tire. We’ve gotta get party supplies for your 30th birthday.” —

The New Year is underway! During this season, we look forward to seeing what the New Year holds. For some, it will be business as usual. Others will use this time to try and make a change in hopes for improvement. As we continue into 2023, I would like to thank Denny Dingler for his years of dedication in writing for “Born to Ride” Magazine. I can only imagine that he has touched myriads of individuals with his stories of encouragement each month. I acknowledge and thank Denny for his acts of service to this motorcycle community. May the Lord Bless you for all your hard work and dedication.

What a privilege it is to enter into the “Born to Ride” community. I am Wayne (Teach) Masiker, Chapter Chaplain with the CMA River Riders #749 in Crystal River Florida. My wife, Valerie (Batts) and I have been riding motorcycles since we were teenagers. We currently have an HD Road Glide and an HD Softail classic. After spending 20 years in the US. ARMY, then a few years in Bible School, I now serve in a local church as the assistant pastor. I am looking forward to our time together.

I am reminded of King Solomon from the Old Testament

looking back on the many seasons of his life. In reflection he wrote: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.

We can reflect on the old and look forward to the new. Together we can pray and believe that the plans the Lord has for us this new season is for our good. As the scriptures say: Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

A great way to enter this year is to find a CMA member and ask to receive your bike blessing for the year 2023. Allow us to pray together for God’s plan for your life in this new year.
