The American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) announced today the details surrounding the first-ever Garage Party, an all-new interactive show element that incorporates live music, a custom bike building competition, an extensive display of past and present custom V-Twin motorcycles, a wide range of AIMExpo exhibitors, and an entertaining after party at the new Ace Cafe Orlando. AIMExpo returns to Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) on October 15-18, with the Garage Party getting underway with a special event on Friday evening at Ace Cafe Orlando. Industry veteran Bill Dodge of Bling Cycles will host the Garage Party, with former Hot Bike Girl Leticia Cline serving as the official Garage Party Ambassador. “I am overwhelmed with all the support we have received for the Garage Party,” said Bob Kay, AIMExpo V-Twin Director. “Exhibitors, brands, dealers, media and iconic builders throughout the V-Twin industry have jumped at the chance to get involved. THE SLEEPY COMMUTER You’re riding your motorcycle to work just after sunrise, traveling down a typical suburban street lined with car-filled driveways. As you approach one of these driveways a car begins to move and backs out directly into your path. You brake hard and come to a stop just inches away from its rear bumper. Strategy: Given the hour of day and the type of neighborhood, you could have expected to encounter at least a few drivers backing out of their driveways and heading off to work. Other clues include drivers getting into their cars as you approach, or a tell-tale puff of exhaust warning you that the car has been started and is preparing to leave. Watch for brake lights and backup lights, too. If you observe any of the above warning signs, take the following precautions: Slow your pace and prepare to stop, if necessary. Keep your eyes up and cover the front brake lever and rear brake pedal. Stabilize your speed so that if the car does begin to move out into your path, you have sufficient space to stop. If there isn’t room or time to slow to a stop, scan for an escape route to swerve into. If there is no oncoming traffic, swerve to the left; if this route isn’t available, consider swerving to the right.

I just would like to share some love from the Born to Ride, Georgia family to the Marine, servicemen victims of the Chattanooga shooting of July, 16! Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of those victims. We are proud to write of one our own county in Ga, Cherokee County, who gave such an amazing honor to one of the victims, Marine Skip Wells, as his procession drove by. The county’s Fire and Emergency services lined the streets with ladder trucks and were seen on the overpass of 575, alongside thousands of citizens. The scene was both, honorable and indicative of Cherokee County’s massive respect, honor and duty towards the love of a fallen Marine and for that we thank you, also! Thanks Cherokee Fire and Emergency!
Throughout our nation, there is a large need for adoptive families to step up and show a form of love that is like no other. Adoption is one of the most selfless acts a person can engage in... There are two forms of adoption, domestic and international, and a couple of Georgia, local agencies, that are non-profits, sit ready to assist you in the process of completion of the state-required and interstate required paperwork. While this is not an exhaustive list, I can help you with two: Hope for Adoption is in Cherokee County area and can be reached by going to www. hopeforadoption.com and a second, is based out of Dacula, Ga, and can be reached by visiting homeadoptionstudies. com...Services,while this is not an exhaustive list, can include the following: Domestic Home Studies, Couples and Single Parents, Embryo Adoption Studies, Second Parent Adoption Studies, Post Placement Reports,
Birth Parent Services and Child Placing Services. If you have more room, I would love to do a banner of some stuff around town that is an update for the month, for eg, Indian’s Grand Opening occurred on July 18-19 and was a success. Welcome Indian of Marietta. Second, we are having great times and seeing great turnouts at our bike nights, occurring on Thursday nights at Tom’s Place, and are available to assist with other businesses to prompt growth through our event planning, bike nights, and more... Bartow Christmas in July, with Ricky Black and Knight Hawk, Tom’s Place, HD of Cartersville, Opi’s, Born to Ride and many more patrons was a success and involved many selfless folks, who arrived to support by way of cash, gift card and unwrapped toy donations. Like us on Facebook: Born To Ride Geogia and always check out BornToRide.com
We want to show our major respects towards Georgia’s own Ricky Black of Knight Hawk. Mr. Black does many things throughout the year with charitable heart, but we would like to share a great thank you for his efforts for Bartow County Christmas Coalition, which raises monies for low income children to assist with their Christmas. Thanks Mr. Black for BTR and Bartow! You are our local hero and Santa. We love you! Throughout the year, Mr. Black is forever reaching his arms out towards the assistance of community needs. We love and thank GOD for his heart!

TN, and on the way home we stopped in Maggie Valley to meet Dale Walksler and witness Wheels Through Time. It was amazing! The museum is located only a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the land is filled with natural heritage and beauty. There are countless sights to see and experience, so in this feature we will also be showing you not only Wheels Through Time but other sights of the trip we enjoyed. The Wheels Through Time Museum is
home to the world’s premier collection of rare American Vintage Motorcycles. Located 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, in beautiful Maggie Valley, NC, this AllAmerican motorcycle museum houses over 300 of America’s rarest and most celebrated classic motorcycles. The museum has over 24 marques on display, including the likes of Harley-Davidson, Indian, Excelsior, Crocker, Henderson, and much more. Western North Carolina’s premier museum and tourism

attraction features dozens of motorcyclerelated exhibits, ranging from board track racers, hill climbing, and original paint machines to American Dirt Track racing, choppers and bobbers, and one-of-a-kind motorcycles. The museum also annually holds a motorcycle raffle, which helps them continue their mission. Founded by Dale Walksler in 1993, WTT has become an integral piece in discovering, maintaining, and preserving American
motorcycle history. The collection houses tens of thousands of motorcycle pictures, historic memorabilia, and other motorcycle artifacts, and has been featured in hundreds of motorcycle publications, including American Iron, Cycle World, Cycle Source, and American Motorcyclist to name a few. a taste of American transportation history at its best. The museum houses over 320 of America’s rarest and most significant motorcycles and automobiles, and is renowned for its “non-traditional” approach to preserving a vast collection of two- and four-wheeled machines that spans over 100 years. While most automotive and motorcycle related museums in North America house near static collections of shiny, restored machines kept in glass cases or behind velvet ropes, BTR 20 | BORNTORIDE.COM
at Wheels Through Time each and every machine inside the museum walls is kept in running and operating condition, many of which are fired up and run regularly for visitors. Over 75 percent of the collection stands in original condition—untouched survivors tracing back to the roots of motorized transportation—indicating the museum’s emphasis on originality. This very approach has been an integral part of the museum’s success in Western NC. And as it continues to grow in both
size and scope, visitors from far and wide are more than willing to share their unique experiences with friends and strangers alike, giving the museum even more momentum as it looks toward the future. So far this summer, the museum has experienced record visitation, and things only look to be getting busier. “Over the past 10 years, Wheels Through Time has enjoyed enormous success here in Maggie Valley, NC,” says museum curator Dale Walksler. “We owe a vast part

of that success to our visitors, and for our 10th Anniversary, we’d like to recognize and pay tribute to all those who have helped us become the museum that we are today.” In celebration of its 10th year in Maggie Valley, museum staff gave special tours and demonstrations of many of the rare machines at WTT, including nearly a dozen early American racing motorcycles, several significant automobiles dating back to the 1920s, and one of the newest additions to the museum collection—the “Belly Tanker” BTR 22 | BORNTORIDE.COM
race car seen on numerous episodes of American Pickers. The Wheels Through Time Museum will sweep you back in time with its magnificent presentation of vintage all-American motorcycles and automobiles. You’ll find over 320 of America’s rarest and most significant machines, each with its own story. And the best part—99% of the machines on display are in running condition. That why it’s called “The Museum that Runs!” Wheels Through Time contains what experts
consider to be America’s finest collection of rare American motorcycles, from 1903– Present. Many are unique, one-of-a-kind vehicles, so rare that no documentation exists. Others you might remember from your youth. Whatever the case, it’s guaranteed that everyone who walks through our doors will be astounded by the history of American Transportation over the past 100 years. introduced to Born To Ride some years ago and being a fan of digital media I found “ Ianwasinterest in BTR’s TV efforts. This was in 2006. At that time I endeavored to produce
my own videos here at Wheels Through Time Museum. At the same time I was introduced to Born To Ride Magazine and found their passion to be very genuine. It is quite remarkable to keep that passion for 20 years, remain objective to the industry and strive to promote the industry in a positive light. Recently we had the pleasure of meeting Ron and his family here at Wheels and what a great time we had. Subsequently I received the most recent copy of Born To Ride Magazine and found a photo gallery/story about Wheels. Great photos and story. It is always difficult to recreate an experience for something we are passionate about, however a picture is worth a thousand words and the feature story says it all. I encourage Born To Ride to stay in the forefront of the motorcycle experience and look forward to future projects ahead. To Ron and his family THANK YOU. Sincerely, Dale Walksler Wheels Through Time, 62 Vintage Lane, P.O. Box 790, Maggie Valley, NC 28751

When I first met Dave Sandel the inventor of LOVE-JUGS and CEO Steve West at the V-Twin Expo Show in Cincinnati I must say I was not convinced they had “fixed” the problem of “HOT HARLEY’S.” I was so reluctant that I asked to move the interview to the last two hours of the last day of the show. I knew by then most everyone would have left to head back home and most exhibitors would be packing. So with no pressure from crowds and other manufacturers, we came back two hours before the show was to end. To my surprise there was Dave Sandel and Steve West smiling and waiting for us. I thought to myself these guys are nuts. Didn’t they know I was going to rip their product apart with questions about the truth of their claim and the reliability of this toy? It appeared they wanted to meet this challenge head on, and they were armed to
answer every question to my complete satisfaction. Before the first question, Dave Sandel boasted: “Hot Harley? Problem solved!” He continued, “Our systems are guaranteed to keep your oil flowing and your engine running significantly cooler, and that is guaranteed to make your ride cooler too.” A bit of history may help explain my hesitation to such a bold claim. The first Harley I rode any distance on was a 1965 Electra Glide. This “Blue Angel” was the coolest looking bike on the road at the time. However, riding this demon in south Texas in August was anything but cool. Since that time I have tried so many devices and gadgets. I can count the amount of money, time, and effort spent trying to find something to cool down my Harleys. Unfortunately those products did not meet my expectations! I love my Harley; I don’t want any other brand. I want to ride my Harley even if it’s in the high ’90s in Texas BTR 36 | BORNTORIDE.COM
and not have to wait until the sun goes down to go riding. I put the sleek new LOVE JUGS COOL-MASTER on our test bike and took off for a 2,068 mile test ride. I travelled through the Daniel Boone National Forest, the Great Smoky Mountains, and the easy flowing traffic of Atlanta (joke)—during rush hour traffic or through a construction site, where you can go 10-15 MPH for very short distances at a time. From Atlanta, I was off to Salem and Montgomery, AL. Then I was off for some open Interstate to run all the way to Vicksburg, MS. It was time to get off the fast track and do some back road riding up to Yazoo City, where I saw a sign that said fresh donuts and coffee. I thought to myself I know a great place for that, so I headed to the French Quarter to Café Du Monde, New Orleans, LA, for some beignets & chicory coffee. After I had my fill I headed back to Birmingham, AL, north to Nashville, TN and northeast to Cincinnati, OH. My LOVE JUGS fans withstood the harshest conditions I put them through. LOVE JUGS are 100% waterproof outdoor rated fan motors, and my trip confirmed that! If it was not raining it was as hot as Hades. The original model produces more than twice the cooling power of its closest competitor—while the new model packs even more punch. The more air, the more comfort for the rider and the more protection for your engine. This no nonsense sleek face gives the unit a finished custom look that is as at-home on a $100,000
custom bagger as it is on a 25-year-old Electra Glide. They will actually run while submerged underwater as can be seen on their website. http://love-jugs.com/videos/. Luckily I didn’t have to ride submersed under water! Believe it or not, some competing systems use indoor rated fans, which will short out when exposed to water— even during a washing. And yes, I do LOVE JUGS! I have had two Harley techs tell me because of the addition of the LOVE JUGS and an oil cooling system, I have possibly extended the life of the most expensive part of my Harley—the motor—about 50,000 miles. To me that is the best endorsement of any product I have ever given. And that is a great insurance policy and peace of mind for me. For more information, take a tour of the web site: www.love-jugs. com or contact: Hammerhead Engineering CEO Steve West at steve@love-jugs.com. He’ll be happy to speak with you.

Craven Moorehead
Waco, TX: 9 dead, 20 wounded, 177 arrested in Gestapo style police action
An unbelievable and inconceivable blow has been dealt to the entire biker community. Not just club members, but anyone that rides a motorcycle has been affected by this terrible incident. As readers of the region’s most popular biker magazine, most of you read this publication to be informed, entertained and supported. As a contributor to this entity for over a decade, I feel the necessity to come clean about some of the things that I know and a few of the things that I have experienced in that dark yet enlightening life known by most as the “1%er culture” that so many have formed their own opinions upon. The fact is, there are three sides to every story. Some of the ‘truth’ hasn’t been told. Whether you like it or not, we as bikers all have a particular bond, and I have the fourth side to the story. If you are a Bandido, you are a member of a 1% motorcycle club that has a vast history and a very large membership. Some sources state the Bandidos MC is the second largest club on the planet and it became a ‘club’ in 1966. As a 1%er you have ultimate dedication to your brothers, your motorcycle, and the open road. The bond that is formed in a 1% club is a lot stronger than any similar type of organization. The regulated media and society in general usually regard 1% clubs as “Gangs” and oft times replace fear with respect. Secrecy and silence are things that are feared BTR 38 | BORNTORIDE.COM
by most folks, and if you are a 1%er you will usually keep your business to yourself and not broadcast it publicly to anyone. A 1%er will stand his ground in any situation that arises, and if not provoked will give respect where respect is due. All 1% club members have great respect for their country, family, and their freedom to associate. If you are a Cossack, you are not a member of a 1% organization and likely should not be flying a “Texas” bottom rocker. The media touts that the police issued a report that stated, “The group was working to grow its presence in Texas by eating into the Bandidos turf.” The group had recently “started wearing the Texas rocker on the bottom of their vests without the approval of the Bandidos,” the bulletin said. “Traditionally, the Bandidos have been the dominant motorcycle club in Texas and no other club is allowed to wear the Texas rocker without their consent. If the club refuses, Bandidos members will attempt to remove the vest by force from the member. Such actions led to several alleged attacks, assaults and robberies according to police, who feared the two factions were on the verge of a full-out war.” If you are a Cop, you are a member of a much larger and more corrupt organization than either of the aforementioned clubs. As a member of law enforcement you will agree with the media slant on gang violence. As stated above, a LEO is responsible for releasing the foreboding forecast regarding the indifference and tension between these clubs to the hungry press. Some reports indicated that the MC culture is akin to notorious street gangs like the “Bloods,” “Crips” and others. Unlike MC organizations, cops are evidently allowed to turn a restaurant parking lot into a shooting gallery without any respect to public safety, local ordinances, or fear of future ramifications. Some have called this ‘getting away with murder.’ Hey—don’t shoot me; I just report the news.
An incredible injustice has been done to the global biker community
It is alleged by an eyewitness at the Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco on that fateful day, that a Cossack member fired a single shot into a Bandidos member’s arm. The barrage of gunfire that followed this action was, according to this witness (and many
“Wackos in Waco”
others) in fact was initiated entirely by law enforcement officers who were already on the scene. It was also said that “when 10 to 12 Bandido members arrived at the restaurant, they were surrounded by a very large group of Cossack members and the incident occurred even before the Banditos had parked or removed their helmets.” There was no ‘fire-fight’ according to witnesses and the needless deaths and injuries were all at the hands of law enforcement. Why, you ask did all this happen? This is my best effort at a reasonable explanation—where actually there is no reasoning. I wasn’t there, and I am fairly glad that I wasn’t. This is all I have learned from my research: On this particular day at the Twin Peaks restaurant there was a regular “Confederation of Clubs” meeting taking place and several varieties of clubs and bikers were in attendance. Many of you may be familiar with your local COC which are regional entities that bring education to all patch holders and bikers in general. No person or club is asked to ‘not attend’ to my knowledge and these meetings are designed to be solely educational and informative. COC meetings, for those uninformed is (in some cases) just a lawyer sponsored event where persons who are either in a motorcycle club or those who are friends, supporters or perhaps just curious about the club experience gather to learn about legislation, biker trends & safety issues related to the region, and generally educate each other in the overall biker camaraderie. Each COC is pretty much grounded in similar guidelines, so for the purpose of this report and the future of these organizations I will not try to single out the difference between those that are local vs. those that claim to be national. It pretty much comes down to the fact that most MC organizations have some sort of internal structure that binds them together, and the COC will allow the varying clubs to express the difference in each individual club and their guidelines. I have attended many of these meetings all over the US and have never witnessed any violence or altercations such as the incident in Waco. I have stood side by side (and sometimes toe to toe) with clubs that allegedly (according to the cops) had beef with my club. Yeah, there was always a huge police presence, Feds with fancy video equipment, and an array of strange looking ‘bikers with badges’ who stood out in the crowd like a sore thumb. Never have I encountered the level of debauchery that the Waco LEOs let loose on this day.
27 vehicles seized, 488 weapons found—bloodthirsty cops at the scene Shooting fish in a barrel is another term used in some of the eyewitness stories that I have read. Most of the accounts reveal that all of the people killed at the scene were shot by police weapons. The cops deny that story and some reports in the media say that the multi-jurisdictional murder-squad, are only claiming responsibility for 4 or 5 of the deaths. Even ONE is too much! I for one know that when you go to Texas you are in an
‘open carry’ state where almost every citizen is armed. Much like Florida—Bikers and Bankers alike, they all carry out there. Therefore, the presence of an armed public shouldn’t be an excuse for cops to get target practice on the public, even if they have previously ‘profiled’ them as dangerous bikers, or ‘gang’ members. After all the killing was done, people who were in the Twin Peaks and an adjacent business (if they fit the profile as a biker) were dragged out into the bloody parking lot and ordered to stay on the ground until the cops could bind their hands with oversized wire-ties. Buses rolled in to carry ‘detainees’ to another location to be questioned, searched, and booked into the jail. Each person charged appeared before a judge and were held on a $1,000,000.00 (yes One MILLION dollars) bond and many are still incarcerated under what the Leos refer to as RICO charges. I will not get into the ruse that is ‘RICO’ for the sake of brevity. The Government’s RICO act is a 3 page story (read lie) in itself. Again, I was not in attendance at this particular COC meeting. There are a plethora of stories out there from people who were there and the families of the falsely jailed. They all can’t be wrong. According to The Waco Tribune-Herald, some bikers who had their bonds lowered to $25,000 have had other conditions included in the bond agreements including they stay out of McLennan County except for court dates, wear ankle monitors, abide by curfews, and don’t associate with biker groups. Remember, these people were not necessarily patch holders! In all cases the bond reduction required the accused to sign a document stating the (cops) had the ultimate right to arrest them as charged and they would NOT sue the cops, city, county or state for the false arrest and egregious bond. I mistakenly thought I lived in America. Many families and homes have been ruined due to the breadwinner being held in a Gestapo like action that had police profiling written all over it. Nine families of patch holders are burying their husbands, fathers, and family members due to a sad exhibit of police hate, anger, and power. Allegedly, a multitude of weapons were found on the scene— featuring very few firearms the vast range of so called ‘weapons’ varied from pocket knives to wallet chains to nail clippers. Yeah, the next time I get into an altercation I am gonna whip out my nail-clippers and yell “I’m gonna cut you to the quick MFer!” This is the most ridiculous situation I’ve ever seen. I’ve been a biker pretty much all my life and I can tell you—tell you ALL—as bikers this action affects each and every one of us. Speed safely everyone and keep your eyes and ears open. All is not as it seems.

Biker Movie Review
This month Born To Ride reviews the classic “On Any Sunday.” On Any Sunday is not a typical motorcycle exploitation film, but on the contrary a very positive motorcycle ‘sport’ documentary piece featuring Steve McQueen, Mert Lawwill, Malcolm Smith, and a cast
of hundreds of other motorcycle racers and enthusiasts. This 1971 expose was produced by Bruce Brown, and Steve McQueen, and features some very good cinematography considering it’s vintage. It also portrays motorcycle enthusiasts as ‘good guys’ instead
of the alternative. The opening scene shows a group of kids racing their bicycles, making motorcycle noises. Some credit this scene with the ‘creation’ of BMX, but I looked at it as a positive thing for the motorcycle community, as we watch our kids aspire to be like us as they grow older. This film leaves no stone unturned in the motorcycle racing world, covering everything from road racing to the “Widow Maker” hill climb. A good portion of the movie focuses on the career of Mert Lawwill who held the AMA number one plate for one grueling season, riding his Harley XR 750 in the flat track series. The film follows Mert through one of his bad years where multiple engine failures and other calamities cause him to lose the coveted number 1 plate to Gene Romero at the season finale in Sacramento. Mert didn’t just flat track it all the way through the film however. He and his costars, Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen are filmed in various situations in multiple divisions of motorcycle racing. Most know McQueen as an actor who would spend a lot of leisure time as an auto racer, but On Any Sunday will show you that he is a very accomplished motorcycle racer as well. On Any Sunday is often credited as the best and/or most important motorcycle documentary ever made. Roger Ebert says “It does for motorcycle racing what The Endless Summer did for surfing.” I agree with Ebert on this (for once we agree) but don’t forget that Bruce Brown produced both of these films, so that quote is more of an insult than a compliment in my opinion. On Any Sunday is available on a digitally re-mastered DVD and the “Directors Cut” edition comes with yet a second DVD which covers the making of the movie behind the scenes, the trailer, interviews and et cetera. This flick runs 96 minutes, and you will likely enjoy at least 90 of them! If you love motorcycles and racing, you will like this film! I’ll give this one 5 out of 5 stars for keeping me entertained without pissing me off!

Recently my wife and I got to head to the hills of Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia for a much needed vacation, followed by a bike rally. We were especially looking forward to spending time on the twisties, those mountain roads are phenomenal! The first night we planned out a route to take us through some winding roads that we have never ridden. It was beautiful with the valleys and farmland that stretched to the horizon. Our ride took us past a Krispy Kreme (yes, we stopped!)
BTR 44 | BORNTORIDE.COM
and into a lush rainforest passageway, complete with a babbling brook that followed the road. We felt so totally at one with our surroundings. As we rode, we noticed, through the trees, mountain peaks that were shrouded in fog. Little did we realize that within 20 minutes we too would be in the fog! As we looked out over the magnificent mountain ranges, we realized just how insignificant we felt in relationship to the vastness of the Smokies. Later in the week we rode the Blue Ridge Parkway with some friends of ours who live locally. There were incredible roads, awesome vistas, and you could just feel God’s creative touch in all that we saw. After a few days there, we were off to the rally in Georgia, and more new rides. We decided to go for a ride to the highest point in Georgia, and all was going well until we had to do a 180 degree switchback, going uphill on a sharp angle. Made me nervous, but I was OK until the back tire hit a patch of gravel! There is no excitement in having the back end of your bike break loose unintentionally. For the rest of the ride up I was tense and totally undone. Then
we got to the lookout deck and God reminded me that He has it all in His control. I was doubtful about riding back down, but when the time came, a peace came over me and I actually enjoyed the ride back. We finished our vacation with another ride the next day. God gives us an incredible promise in His Word, in Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” I was focused on the fact that as a flatlander my riding skills were lacking, and for a moment, forgot Who created those beautiful mountains for us to enjoy. And what better way to enjoy mountains than on your favorite bike? God met me at my point of need, and loosened me up so I could ride back down that mountain road and find joy in the process. Perhaps that gravel was there to remind me exactly Who I needed to trust; either way, I got the message! When life gives you a rough patch, look to God for peace and protection in the challenge, He’s there have your back!! In The Wind, Denny Dingler
