NOVEMBER 11 & 12, 2017 A RUNWAY EVENT

3 Parenting Magazine presented Island Child Style, a children’s runway event featuring collections created by local, regional and international designers. The event being the first of its kind in our region, joined the international stage of runway events dedicated to children’s fashion. Global cities such as Hong Kong, New York, Paris and London have long celebrated the fashion industry for children and now the collective Caribbean made its first impression in Kingston, Jamaica. 72 models, aged 4 to 14, walked the runway for 17 designers.
This event introduced a new dimension to Jamaica’s social, fashion and tourism sectors providing opportunities for designers, brands and talent. As an extension of Jamaica’s already-strong position as a leader in the regional fashion market, Island Child Style has further cemented the Caribbean as a creative and revolutionary influencer in one of the most lucrative segments in the global apparel industry.
2017 EVENTS Partner with us for the 2017 annual all-island child model search and the second staging of Island Child Style Runway Event, heralded by three casting calls in Kingston, Mandeville and Montego Bay, starting in Child’s Month in May. BOLD training will take place during the summer months of July and August and the Island Child Style Runway Event will be on Saturday, November 11 and the Retail Event on Sunday, November 12, 2017. We look forward to working with you as we solidify Jamaica and the Caribbean as a leader in the children’s fashion market while simultaneously redefining children’s lifestyle through personal empowerment, creative influence and independent thinking. Our mantra remains the same - the most beautiful child is a confident child. A RUNWAY EVENT

global childrenswear industry According to leading market research company Euromonitor and the London Guardian, the global childrenswear industry is estimated to hit a value of USD$173 billion dollars by 2017. With the emergence of Island Child Style and its imminent exposure to the wider children’s industry, local and regional brands stand enter and compete in that global marketplace through quality and consistent production children’s apparel and accessories. “According to rough estimates, the Caribbean fashion industry - English, French, Spanish and Dutch - is conservatively worth J$10 billion per year. Given the relative infancy and underdevelopment of the regional industry, one could assume a value of 10 times this amount, once fully developed,” states Kingsley Cooper, CEO, Pulse Investments Ltd. and the curator of CFW, the Caribbean’s longest-running runway event. In the United Stated alone, the children’s clothing market generates sales of more than $48 billion a year. As children are constantly growing, their need for clothing replacement is higher than any other demographic. Add this to other social factors such as a rapidly increasing birth rate, parents having children later in life and a glut of baby-boomer grandparents with more disposable income at their fingertips than at any point in history have combined to make childrenswear a highly lucrative business. (www.theguardian.com) “The kidswear market was not even affected by the meltdown on the global economy. The market for infants and toddlers wear is recalled as the perfect textbook case for a market pattern as well. Affected by neither economic dynamics nor new fashion trends, this fast growing market is expected to have a stable CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 4.2% through to 2017. Bermal Ozbay (Turkey)

At this point, Europe and the U.S are the major consumers of the global children wear market. However, Jamaica and the wider Caribbean stand to benefit from this burgeoning industry. “With the Caribbean’s sense of originality – as the Caribbean people strive to maintain uniqueness–, professionals in the fashion industry create their own fashions to ensure and enhance culturally diversity with a Caribbean sense of style.” www.thecaribbeancurrent.com
DID YOU KNOW? In launching Baby Dior in 1967, the house of Dior was way ahead of the curve: it took until 1978 for Ralph Lauren to launch childrenswear, and even then he was something of a lone wolf. It was only in the 2000s that other fashion designers who showed their collections on the international catwalks decided to expand their reach, presumably reasoning that it was never too early to cultivate brand loyalty. Little Marc Jacobs launched in 2005; Stella McCartney Kids in 2010; Lanvin, Marni, Gucci and Fendi Kids all arrived in 2011, and Dolce & Gabbana brought up the rear in 2012. But the biggest player is Burberry, which reported £79m in revenue from childrenswear for the fiscal year 2013/14 – around 4% of the company’s total.
