During the 25th Europalia International Arts Festival you get a chance to discover archaeological treasures, sculptures, miniatures and gold and silver objects which testify to Turkey’s rich cultural heritage. In a second exhibition Europalia paints a portrait of Istanbul. The legendary city is a source of inspiration for photographers, film-makers, writers and musicians. The jewel of the Bosphorus comes to life in the Centre for Fine Arts with stunning film clips and compelling literary and musical interventions.

Comment tenter une vision rétrospective sur une œuvre liée au lieu même de sa création ? Depuis les années soixante, l’artiste français Daniel Buren (°1938) utilise des bandes verticales blanches et colorées pour développer son travail dans des espaces privés et publics. Pour son exposition à BOZAR, Daniel Buren conçoit une installation dans laquelle se côtoieront des œuvres d’artistes qui ont influencé son parcours, comme Kazimir Malevich, Hanne Darboven, Sigmar Polke, etc. et ses propres travaux. Un mur d’images, vous offrira un panorama complet des installations éphémères et pérennes de cet artiste : Une Fresque.

How can you present a retrospective of a work that is linked to the place in which it was created? Since the 1970s, the French artist Daniel Buren (°1938) has developed his oeuvre, involving wide white and coloured strips, in private homes, buildings, museums and public spaces. For his exhibition at BOZAR, Daniel Buren makes an installation, placing his own art alongside works of artists that have influenced him, such as Kazimir Malevich, Hanne Darboven and Sigmar Polke. A wall of images provides insight into the artist’s temporary and permanent installations in the form of a fresco.

Le courant artistique néerlandais « De Stijl » exerce toujours une grande influence sur les artistes, dessinateurs et architectes contemporains. Découvrez comment le mouvement conduit par Piet Mondrian et Theo Van Doesburg joua un rôle majeur au sein de l’avant-garde européenne. Leurs lignes droites et leurs carrés peints avec une couleur primaire n’allaient pas seulement faire leur apparition dans la peinture mais également dans la construction, le vêtement, le meuble, l’intérieur… Les membres de De Stijl s’employaient à apporter un renouveau artistique radical, conformément aux bouleversements techniques, scientifiques et sociaux de leur temps.

De Nederlandse kunststroming De Stijl oefent nog steeds een grote invloed uit op hedendaagse kunstenaars, vormgevers en architecten. Ontdek in deze tentoonstelling hoe de beweging rond Piet Mondriaan en Theo Van Doesburg een centrale rol speelde in de Europese avant-gardekunst. Hun loodrechte lijnen en vierkanten in primaire kleuren zag je niet alleen opduiken in schilderijen, maar ook in gebouwen, kledij, meubels, interieurs,… De leden van De Stijl streefden naar een radicale hervorming van de kunst, tegelijk met de technische, wetenschappelijke en sociale veranderingen in hun tijd.

The Dutch art movement “De Stijl” still exerts a major influence on contemporary artists, designers and architects. This exhibition will show you how the movement begun by Piet Mondrian and Theo Van Doesburg played a central role in European avant-garde art. Their perpendicular lines and squares in primary colours didn’t just turn up in paintings, but also in buildings, clothing, furniture, interiors and plenty more besides. The members of De Stijl were striving to radically reform art, at the same time as the technological, scientific and social changes of their time.

Deze retrospectieve beantwoordt de vraag hoe je kunstwerken kan tentoonstellen die zijn verankerd op de plaats waar ze zijn gemaakt, waar ook ter wereld. De Franse kunstenaar Daniel Buren (°1938) ontwerpt sinds de jaren ‘60 een oeuvre van witte en gekleurde stroken in privéwoningen, gebouwen, musea en de openbare ruimte. Voor zijn tentoonstelling bij BOZAR maakt Daniel Buren een installatie waarin zijn werk een dialoog aangaat met de kunst van artiesten die zijn parcours hebben beïnvloed, onder meer Malevich, Darboven en Polke. Op een muur van bewegende beelden verschijnen de vluchtige en permanente installaties van de kunstenaar in de vorm van een fresco.

La 25ème édition du Festival International des Arts Europalia fait la part belle aux trésors archéologiques, sculptures, miniatures et objets en or et en argent, témoins de la richesse de l’histoire culturelle turque. Une deuxième exposition sera consacrée à un portrait d’Istanbul, ville légendaire et source d’inspiration de nombreux photographes, réalisateurs, écrivains et musiciens. La perle du Bosphore s’invite au coeur du Palais des Beaux-Arts en images et en interventions littéraires et musicales captivantes.

Tijdens het 25e Europalia International Arts Festival ontdek je archeologische schatten, sculpturen, miniaturen, gouden en zilveren objecten die getuigen van de rijke culturele geschiedenis van Turkije. In een tweede tentoonstelling brengt Europalia een portret van Istanboel. De legendarische stad is een inspiratiebron voor fotografen, filmmakers, schrijvers en muzikanten. De parel aan de Bosporus komt in het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten tot leven met schitterende filmfragmenten en meeslepende literaire en muzikale interventies.

Qui dit été, dit photographie. En 2016, BOZAR s’intéresse de plus près à la relation entre l’homme et l’espace lors de la biennale internationale de la photographie, Summer of Photography. En partenariat avec de prestigieux musées de la photographie et des institutions belges et européennes, BOZAR propose un programme mélangeant expositions, conférences, ateliers et présentations de portfolios. Les amateurs et connaisseurs de photographie pourront découvrir cette plate-forme vivante dans différents lieux de la capitale.
Wie zomer zegt, zegt fotografie. In 2016 zoomt BOZAR in op de relatie tussen mens en ‘ruimte’ tijdens de Summer of Photography, de internationale biënnale van de fotografie in Brussel. Samen met prestigieuze musea voor fotografie en Belgische en Europese instellingen, stelt BOZAR een programma samen dat bestaat uit tentoonstellingen, lezingen, workshops en de presentatie van portfolio’s. Op diverse locaties in Brussel ontstaat een levendig platform voor kenners en liefhebbers van fotografie.
