Becky Quinn We were sitting in the middle of a thunder and lightning storm. Although it was quite obvious soccer practice would be cancelled, we had to sit in the car and wait for my coach to tell us it was. “Can’t we just leave? I’m pretty sure I have no practice.” I whined from the back seat, I hate being outside or in a car when there is lightning. “No, you always have to wait for your coach to tell you if practice is cancelled, remember?” Not long after my mom said this, my soccer coach came running up to our car. “Hey, practice is cancelled, there is no way we could safely practice today. If tomorrow is better then we’ll just add another half hour.” After she left, my dad got a call on his cell phone saying my sister Lindsey had just had her baby. When we arrived in the parking lot to the hospital, it was flooded. Still in my soccer clothes, we ran into the building. When we entered my sister’s room and she saw me, she laughed. “Did I catch you at a bad time? Because you look like you just ran a soccer marathon!” “Ha, ha, very funny! Well if you must know, it’s a torrential down pour and my practice was cancelled.” I teased back. As soon as I sat down in a chair, a nurse brought my niece Ariana into the room. Lindsey said to me, “As long as you sit down you can hold her if you want.” So I sat down and my mom put her in my arms. She looked so happy and content at that moment that I knew no matter how often or not we see each other, we will always be close.
