things they carry

Becky Quinn She carries a variety of pebbles deep in her pockets. These polished little stones range from pink, symbolizing love, to violet, symbolizing good judgment, and to white, meaning purity. She also carries a journal filled with short stories born from the silence of a classroom after a test, or just plain boredom. Most of the poems she keeps in this journal are dark, although some are extremely optimistic. She has translated most of these poems into either Latin or Gaelic to not only confuse whoever is to stumble upon them, but also for her own enjoyment. Inside her bag, she has an almost infinite amount of quarters. No one, not even her, can figure out how these have accumulated so quickly. “Jackpot!” her friends yell when she pulls sometimes up to two dollars in quarters out of her bag. Amongst these, she carries a new book every day, only to finish the same day she picked it up. She holds her hair up in any style she wishes for the day with multiple small hair clips. She keeps these cleverly hidden from view by how she styles her hair for the day. On her hands, one can see a ring or two. She is almost always seen wearing her poison ring, along with any other ring she finds in her room. She is usually found carrying some charcoal, and various pastel paints that will help her complete some of the scribbled artwork she carries with her. She will only be satisfied with the artwork when she feels it is perfect.

Becky Quinn As a whole, they carry a variety of materials. Some they could go without but choose not to. A couple things they all carry are their cell phones, and various lip glosses. Rose carries her cell phone, which is attached to her every moment of the day. She carries this so she can see the time, or text anyone she feels she needs to talk to at any time. She also carries her lip gloss and late homework she either forgot to do, or just never handed in. Eventually, it ends up as a crinkled mess at the bottom of her bag. About once a month, Rose will go through her bag and find herself saying, “That’s where that homework went! I thought I lost it!” She also finds herself carrying multiple shirts with her, and not always out of necessity. Ann carries her camera to take out during her free time. She takes candid snapshots of moments of when her friends are having fun, so they can enjoy having a good laugh at themselves. Like Rose, she is attached to her phone. Although she is almost never without it, it is usually hidden it in her pocket or bag. Ann also carries a handheld mirror with her so she can discreetly put her bands for her braces back on. Jane carries a new, recent, book every day. Everyone goes to her if they need an extra quarter or two. Casey is rarely seen without her bows. She wears them on her head, in her hair, on her shirts, or occasionally tied neatly around her wrist. Casey also occasionally carries some sort of duck. Although her friends say she is obsessed with ducks, she strongly denies it. She also carries various crafts with her, just in case she feels the need to make something during any free time she may have throughout the day. Vicky carries any variety of gaming materials, games, or really anything she can get her hands on that is related to video games. She also carries very bright neon colored pencils. She prefers to not use them to color, although she does, but to highlight words she feels are important while she is taking notes in class.

She, like Rose and Ann, also carries her phone with her almost everywhere she goes. They are a group of friends.
