Change is in the air, and we're ready to seize the opportunity. To us, it's becoming increasingly clear that a shift is necessary. Our current social systems need an overhaul to meet the world's challenges. Creating a society that benefits all people, communities, and the planet may seem daunting, but with our company, we're determined to make it happen.

Of course, we're not blind to the difficulties in the past year. From COVID to the Ukraine war, burn-out rates, climate crisis, a housing crisis and the mental vulnerability of youth, there's no denying that these events have made it challenging to stay optimistic about the future. But even in the face of adversity, we continue to focus on the positive aspects of change.

Change can be exciting and inspiring; we're not afraid to embrace it! We're actively seeking opportunities amidst the chaos and recognizing the beauty of change. The road ahead may be challenging, but we're committed to creating a happy impact wherever possible.

We've collaborated with frontrunners and impact makers who drive societal transformation, support brands in promoting positive behaviour, and inspire ambitious leaders to adopt sustainable strategies. We've even created new brands that make the transition to sustainability highly attractive for internal and external stakeholders. We're proud of our positive impact in 2022, and we're not slowing down anytime soon.

We're passionate about creating purpose-driven positive brands and cultures and promoting impact-driven behaviour. And, of course, we're prioritizing our happiness and well-being along the way.

How we measure our impact

Measuring positive impact isn’t easy. So rather than creating our own framework, we chose an approach that not just we, but many worldwide consider one of the most solid and high-barred. Enter: The B Impact Assessment.

This reporting framework, created by B Lab, is one of the leading approaches to measuring, managing, and reporting impact. It’s used by all businesses that are B Corp certified and beyond. This movement aims to change the definition of success from maximized profits to maximized stakeholder benefits. Business can and must be a force for good. We are proud to be a certified B Corp since 2018 and have been using its B Impact Assessment ever since.

We don’t believe in bosses making decisions for subordinates. We think of our team as a bunch of professional friends creating value together. When it comes to choices that affect us all, we discover, discuss and decide together.

More women at the top is what we like to see anywhere. Luckily we don’t have to look far for it. All decisions are made by a balanced leadership team. In fact, we all know the women decide. ;) And we couldn’t be better off for it.

Like our leadership team, the advisors in our impact board are predominantly women. Next to that, another underrepresented group has a voice: young people. This diversity helps us keep our priorities straight, receive valuable insights and remain accountable for the impact we make.

Young people are the future. They are a source of fresh energy and inspiration. We are grateful for the amazingly talented young people that we were able to support with an internship. They help us be better and keep us sharp.

Being healthy is a prerequisite to ensure we are the best version of ourselves. So every day we eat together at the companies' expense. And everyone is free to choose, but vegetarian and vegan meals are preferred for a better diet and a ourishing planet.

We make a habit of staying t together. You’ll regularly nd team members in the gym together, happily improving their strength, stamina and exibility. And when the opportunity arises, we’ll even join a marathon or two.

As part of our 1% pledge, we allocate at least 1% of our resources to good causes and social healthcare start-ups. We're happy we found enough time for this again last year! We don't do this because we said we would but because we all should.

Locally sourced

For all products and services we source, we prioritize local suppliers. If we cannot nd what we need close to home, we look further away. Within Europe. Only if we cannot we'll take a global perspective.

Our online community grew immensely last year. More than 100%! We are thankful for all the new people we welcomed. We also see this as an opportunity to share insights, knowledge and little moments of happiness with even more people.

What's the point in knowing if you don't share it with your network? We love bringing people together and sharing knowledge that might help others. So when we see an opportunity, we'll organize food, drinks, and a location to create learning moments for people.

We only take cars or planes when it is necessary. That's why we adopted a mobility policy. It prioritizes walking and biking rst. Then public transport and electric car sharing. Only as a last option driving or ying. As a result, collectively we spent a considerable time on public transport. And we were smiling for every second of it. ;)

Our o ce is owned by Edge Workspaces and designed to be as sustainable as possible. This means all our waste is separated and fully recycled, avoiding trash going to land ll.

100% powered by renewables

Just as no waste is created, all energy in our building originates from low-impact renewable sources. Though this should be a standard practice, we're proud we can make this claim right now!

Proud moments of

B Leaders for Good Summit 2022 Radical collaboration

The B Leaders for Good Summit in Rome is on our proud moments list. During the Summit, we were inspired by 'radical collaboration' as a standard business practice. Rather than seeing competitors as a potential threat, we felt a strong sense of community throughout the Summit. Connecting with like-minded business leaders was easy, laying the foundation for promising partnerships and ecosystems. Collaboration must become the standard, not competition, within and outside industry boundaries. Truly inspiring, and we are looking forward to the upcoming Summit 2023 in Amsterdam!

Let's Play Equal game development

IP developed

It's time that people learn to play on a level playing field. Or, more accurately, people must understand how unfair the game of life is for many. BR-ND People collaborates with Amsterdam-based B Corps Blyde, Mistelli, Rainbow Coalition and Fronteer to promote this understanding. This B Coalition in Amsterdam is creating a business game about JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) principles. By 2023, the game will be ready for production and launch based on positive reactions during many playtests. We're proud of our leap in 2022 towards a launch-ready game.

23plusone impact strategy

Co-creative development

Another highlight is the impact strategy session about 23plusone, which we hosted and participated in. The aim was to come together with the network of 23plusone Licensed Friends to understand how we can accelerate the impact of 23plusone as a universal emotive language. The results were remarkable. Many A3 papers were filled with insights, ideas and input to accelerate impact growth. It showed us again what power lies in co-creative development. Now everything is being processed to be shared soon with all the participants. And with some luck, we'll see the impact of 23plusone quickly accelerate in 2023!

Impact ambitions of 2023

Looking at the moments we celebrate from 2022, we know there's always more happiness to spread and impact to be made. Here’s what’s on the horizon for 2023:

Sustainability proposition

Support clients in increasing and accelerating their positive impact

In 2023, we wish to support more organisations by accelerating their impact to become more sustainable. This isn't an easy road for many organisations, so we'll explore how to help clear the burdens, potentially with strategy development, culture building, or reporting. But we know there are more client needs we can support with. So 2023 will be about investing in and exploring our role in accelerating businesses' and society's sustainable transformation.

Let’s Play Equal game launch

Finalizing the game with the B Coalition Amsterdam to be ready for launch mid 2023

In 2022 we made significant steps in developing the Let's Play Equal game with the B Coalition Amsterdam. It's time to launch, so you can expect the B Coalition to introduce this new game early in 2023! After exciting sessions to test play the game, we are confident enough to take the next step.

Interdependence & radical collaboration

Exploring ways in which we can collaborate with partners to accelerate sustainable transformation

We believe every person, organisation or country has only some of the answers. Effective partnerships need to be created to forge a better path forward. But we also acknowledge that collaboration can be challenging in an economy primarily based on competition. We know it's possible, though. So we want to use every opportunity to discover how to realize this with our industry partners. Because if people decide to work together, anything is possible!

As you might have noticed while reading this report, happiness at work is essential to us. We see it as our joint responsibility. And be careful; happiness is highly contagious. So in 2023, we'll continue creating moments of joy wherever and whenever possible. Within our own organisation and beyond. Creating impact for a positive world, person by person, team by team and brand by brand. That's our purpose.
