University Centre Bradford College works in partnership with the University of Bolton who validate our Undergraduate degrees, Postgraduate awards and Masters degrees and Pearson who award our Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas. These partnerships allow us to deliver a wide range of courses that are constantly reviewed to reflect the needs of both our students and employers. University Centre Bradford College and the University of Bolton both have strong links with industry that allow us to provide relevant qualifications to prepare you for the workplace. Our courses attract students ranging from those who have just completed A levels to those looking to build on existing qualifications to progress their career.

The heart of your University Centre The University Centre hub is within our Lister Building on our main city centre campus. Lister Building opened its doors in 1911. Here youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll find a number of facilities where you can study, socialise and explore.

The gallery was formerly a full working dye house for the teaching of colouration and industrial dyeing processes. This space now hosts exhibitions and events throughout the year which are free of charge and open to both students and the public.

Our Textile Archive is an exciting celebration of the City’s interwoven textile education and industrial heritage. The archive collections form an extensive, unique, multi-disciplinary resource used and valued by students, designers, historians and academics throughout the world.

Our café bar based within Lister Building is a great relaxing spot to catch up with friends. You can purchase snacks and light lunches throughout the day and our on-site Costa outlet will fuel you up between lessons.

Bradford School of Art and The Northern School of Creative Industries The Bradford School of Art and The Northern School of Creative Industries provide a worldclass creative environment in which you can experiment freely and where the possibilities are endless. With its roots in the Bradford School of Art dating back over 100 years, we have an outstanding reputation and a long history of providing innovative and creative education. Inspiring and highly-skilled teams of academics, who are practicing artists, are instrumental in shaping our Higher Education students’ talents, helping to generate a new community of creative artists. Our exceptional facilities and resources support our students’ learning, whilst encouraging creativity, experimentation and enterprise, preparing them for a successful career in the creative industries. Our unique and meaningful partnerships with employer links such as Prime Studios, Bradford City of Film, Hallmark Cards and Screen Yorkshire, help support the development of talents. We’ve partnered with leading greetings card publisher Hallmark to set up the Green House, a creative studio within the Lister Building. The Green House is a unique opportunity for students to learn new skills directly from industry experts, access some of the best creative facilities and expertise in the country, develop knowledge and design expertise through working with experienced Hallmark designers, illustrators and photographers.

School of Law Our small and friendly School of Law provides our Law students with the skills required in the legal and business world. Our School houses classrooms, a lecture theatre and a purpose built moot court room which allows students to take part in simulated court proceedings.

Scholarly Activity and Research Centre Our University Centre’s Scholarly Activity and Research Centre actively encourages staff to engage in scholarly activity. This includes action research, applied research, attendance at conferences and colloquia, conference presentations/workshops, consultancy, curriculum development, exhibitions, higher level qualifications, industrial or commercial secondments, subject updating and writing for publications.

School experience If you are applying for a teacher training course, gaining relevant classroom experience beforehand is essential. School experience will help you decide that you are making the right career choice. Reflecting upon your experiences and why you think that you will be a good teacher will be useful in writing your UCAS personal statement and at interview. Once you start on a teacher training course, 16

On campus Hair and beauty salons SALONS AND SPA Our fully-equipped salons offer a wide range of professional treatments and are open at various times during the week. THERAPY SALON The modern therapy salon offers an array of services for the mind, body and soul. These include facial treatments, body massage, waxing, manicures and pedicures. Professional Dermalogica products are used so you can be sure you will receive the finest treatments. Situated in the award winning David Hockney Building, menus cater for a variety of tastes and offers healthy options. The venue is recognised for its provision of high quality training and excellent skills development for Hospitality, gaining a AA College Rosette Award, 5* rating for Environment Health and ‘Silver’ accreditation from the Hospitality Guild, the leading industry skills body. Less than 10 minutes’ walk from College is Sunbridge Wells, a world of pure imagination, where you’ll find a selection of independent boutique shops amongst cafés, restaurants and bars that bring history to life in a unique underground complex. Bradford’s North Parade, in the City’s Independent Quarter, was voted in the top three city high streets in the country in the 2015 Great British High Street Competition. Within the variety of bars, coffee shops and restaurants you’ll find cocktails, craft beers, authentic street food and a mix of music.

Film or theatre fan?

Only a 5-10 minute walk from our main campus, The Broadway shopping centre offers over 70 shops and eateries with an individual mix of stores and recognised high street brands, all under one roof. The Alhambra theatre is regarded as the North’s premier touring venue and hosts the best in large scale entertainment from ballet and opera to comedy and musicals. Check out the latest blockbusters at the Leisure Exchange, or soon to open ‘The Light’ cinema complex at The Broadway Bradford. If alternative screenings are more your thing, head down to the Cubby Broccoli cinema at the National Science and Media Museum for a truly immersive cinema experience on the biggest screen in the region. Our superb sporting and fitness facilities are based at the Trinity Green Campus; whether it’s indoor or outdoor, team or individual, beginner or more advanced sports and fitness you are looking for there is a wide range of activities on offer. You can join our gym and get fit, before or after your classes, make use of our Boxing Academy and sign up for a range of enrichment and Students’ Union ‘Give it a Go’ activities.

Societies

We are proud to have an independent and active Students’ Union. Higher Education students can access the Union services and you are automatically a member*.

Our Students’ Union also encourages students to form societies, the perfect way to make new friends and socialise with like-minded people. Established societies include: The Networking Society, Football Club and LGBT Society.

As a member, you’ll benefit from a range of activities, societies and volunteering opportunities. For £12 per year, you can purchase an NUS Extra card offering savings of between 10% and 42% on a variety of purchases including beauty products, eating out, fashion, supermarkets and travel.

The Students’ Union exists to make the lives of our University Centre students better by ensuring that your voice is heard. Our Students’ Union believes that students should be active partners in their learning and they work closely with teaching teams to make changes that will benefit students.

Whether you have a few hours to spare or much more time to volunteer, there will be something to suit your interests, skills and availability. We offer lots of opportunities for you by developing new skills for your CV, improve your employability and help your community via our links with charities and voluntary organisations across the Bradford area.

‘Give it a Go’ We don’t just stop at offering sports activities! Our ‘Give it a Go’ activities are FREE for any University Centre student. Our aim is to get you to experiment with new things you’ve never tried before, maybe learn a new skill and socialise with other University Centre students. You can choose from sessions such as Graffiti Workshops, Tattoo Art, DJ Workshops and Scuba Diving, so all you need to do is just Give it a Go!

Accommodation Halls of residence Living in halls is a great way to meet other students and offers a secure, affordable home whilst you study at our University Centre. Doris Birdsall Hall is the University Centre’s main accommodation for students. It’s a small friendly development with 59 rooms, located next to the Trinity Green campus and is just five minutes’ walk from the main campus.

Student Residence Assistants are on site during term time and can assist with repairs and other enquiries.

Homestay accommodation places students with a local family or a person who lives on their own. You will share the home with your host and sometimes with other students.

There are two types of Homestay accommodation; half board and self-catering. HALF-BOARD

SELF-CATERING

Half board tenants are provided with breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday and all meals at weekends.

Access to Higher Education (HE) is a qualification that will enable you to progress to study at degree level regardless of what you achieved (or didn’t achieve) first time round. There’s no upper age limit and typically Access to HE Diplomas take a year to complete and lead to a Level 3 qualification, after which you can apply for Higher Education study. 34

Our courses lead directly to employment. Students do go on to further study on completion of the HND but, at present, we do not offer this although there are plans for us to offer a top-up degree in the future. Creative Media The Creative Media course is designed to replicate the freelance and multiplatform skills demanded by the modern creative media industry. HND Creative Media Production

After completing his first year, Cameron worked with the British Youth Film Academy. He later undertook work experience for the BBC in Leeds. Impressed by Cameron, the BBC offered him casual work. While studying with us, Cameron attended our annual filmmaking trips to Malham and to the Berlin Film Festival. After graduating, Cameron subsequently joined us on a trip to Spain to act as a mentor to the current students. He currently works for BBC Wales as the Multi-Skilled Operator for News and Current Affairs.

ITV drama ‘Girlfriends’ and the BBC’s ‘Gunpowder’ were partly filmed on campus.

Darran joined Bradford College in 2001. His prior experience includes his joint internship with the District Attorney’s Office, North Carolina and his work with the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. He became a Barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law in London in 1995 and is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. Darran’s experience informs the degree curriculum. He contributes to developments in professional standards and employability skills delivery through the Legal Skills modules and in his delivery of the Law of Tort. Our Music courses offer you the opportunity to develop your skills across a number of areas and meet the needs of the music industry. You'll develop the skills necessary to become a musician, singer, composer, songwriter, live sound engineer, producer or studio engineer.

Transform the way performers look on TV, film or stage! This degree will challenge you creatively and provide the opportunity for you to express your individuality. On completion, you’ll have produced a professional portfolio of work that will showcase your technical abilities to future employers. You'll collaborate with a number of other Creative Industry students in fashion shows, photoshoots, performances and events and, combined with work placements with national and regional companies, you’ll develop as a creative artist and designer.

Technical and Production Arts for Film and Television This exciting new course focuses on the craft and technical skills required for employment in the film, TV and creative industries. Sam is a lecturer focusing on sports coaching, development and management. He is one of only four UKCC Level 4 basketball coaches in the UK and delivers coach education courses for Basketball England, the game’s national governing body. He’s currently on the England senior men coaching staff for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and has 25 years’ coaching and teaching experience. More recently, Sam has been awarded a national Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy in recognition of his excellence in teaching, scholarship and research.
