La Haine (Criterion Collection)
The lives of three men — all hailing from low-income immigrant families — are depicted in the hours following a riot that results in their friend Abdel (Ghili) ending up in intensive care after he is injured in police custody. Vinz (Cassel) is a young Jewish man with a short temper, Hubert (Kounde) is an Afro-French boxer who deals
drugs on the side, and Said (Taghmaoui) is a North African Muslim man who is the most level-headed of the trio. The violent nature of their daily lives comes to a head one evening after encountering antagonistic addicts, shorttempered skinheads and corrupt cops in the surrounding neighborhood of the banlieue where they reside.

Book of Clarence
After incurring a substantial debt owed to a loan shark, Clarence (Stanfield), a Hebrew man in AD 33, conceives the idea of pretending to be the new messiah in one of his opium-induced hazes. Clarence plans to capitalize on Jesus’s (Pinnock) celebrity by performing fake miracles and developing a following to generate donations to free himself of debt. More than anything, Clarence desires to be
somebody and to be loved and admired by all. After encountering Jesus himself during his journey and witnessing his compassion and abilities, Clarence’s integrity is tested when he is arrested by Pontius Pilate (McAvoy), the Roman governor of Judaea responsible for ordering the crucifixion of Jesus.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Matt Ogens (“Home + Away,” 2018) and Kachi Benson (“Daughters of Chibok,” 2019), the feature-length documentary, “Madu,” makes its streaming debut, Friday, March 29, on Disney+. Having never left home before, the young boy faces extraordinary obstacles as he, according to Disney, “searches for belonging and acceptance, a family far away, and unexpected challenges that could impact his future.” First discovered in 2020, the talented young danger was found following the release of a viral clip shared by Madu’s dance teacher, capturing the ballerino’s talent in a short 44 seconds. Having been a dancer since he was only 5 years old, Madu is overflowing with pride and excitement in a trailer for the film, and proves his determination by saying: “People think that it’s not for boys, [but] it’s my dream, and I have to follow it.” A touching tale for audiences of all ages, “Madu” comes from producers Jamie Patricof (“Exhibiting Forgiveness,” 2024), Katie McNeill (“The Place Beyond the Pines,” 2012) and Rachel Halilej (“High, Hello”) of Hunting Lane Films.
