The Late Show With Stephen Colbert
This morning [April 15], Donald Trump walked into the courthouse to face justice for his alleged illegal hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. This is a historic moment we will all tell our grandchildren about very carefully. [As an older gentleman] “Well, uh ... there was a president who met a special actress for, let’s say, grown-up movies at
a celebrity golf event and invited her over for a play date because his wife was too busy to play ‘cause she had a new baby, and the actress gave him a friendly pat on the bottom with a magazine about money with his photo on it and then they shared a special unprotected hug. Then, he gave her a present so she wouldn’t tell anyone that his bathing suit area was shaped like Toad from Mario Kart.”
There’s interesting news from Connecticut, where two vultures that were feared to
be dying were, in fact, just too drunk to fly. But the vultures did the right thing. Instead of flying drunk, they called an Ubird.
It is Day 2 [April 16] of Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial. What many are calling “the trial of the feels

“Mother of the Bride” (2024)
What happens when the guy your daughter is marrying turns out to be the son of your ex? Well, hilarity ensues. Netflix’s newest romantic comedy, “Mother of the Bride,” premieres on the streamer Thursday, May 9. Upon returning from a year abroad, Emma (Miranda Cosgrove, “iCarly”) surprises her mother, Lana (Brooke Shields, “Pretty Baby,” 1978), with news of her destination wedding in Phuket, Thailand, in a month’s time. Being the loving mother that she is, Lana tries to take the surprise in stride. However, when she arrives in Thailand, Lana learns that TJ (Sean Teale, “The Gifted”), the groom, is the son of the ex that broke her heart decades ago, Will (Benjamin Bratt, “Miss Congeniality,” 2000). Over the course of the wedding, Lana tries her best to avoid rekindling feelings for Will. But does their love deserve another chance? Rounding out the cast are Rachael Harris (“Lucifer”) as Janice, Chad Michael Murray (“Sullivan’s Crossing”) as Lucas, Michael McDonald (“Mad TV”) as Clay, Wilson Cruz (“Star Trek: Discovery”) as Scott, Tasneem Roc (“Heartbreak High”) as Camala, Dalip Sondhi (“Half Girlfriend,” 2017) as Harley, Sue Swallow (“Lockdown Lifeline”) as Katrina and Sahajak Boonthanakit (“Only God Forgives”) as Pastor Harit. “Mother of the Bride” is directed by Mark Waters (“500 Days of Summer,” 2009) and written by Robin Bernheim (“The Princess Switch,” 2018).
“Bodkin” - Season 1
Dark secrets lie hidden beneath the charming exterior of Bodkin, Ireland, and it’s up to a ragtag crew of podcasters to unearth the truth when “Bodkin” premieres Thursday, May 9, on Netflix. The seven-episode series stars Will Forte (“The Last Man on Earth”), Siobhán Cullen (“The Dry”) and Robyn Cara (“We Die Young,” 2019) as the podcasters Gilbert, Dove and Emmy, respectively. The trio set off to the titular Irish coastal town to uncover the truth behind the disappearances of three people 21 years ago. However, when the podcasters arrive in Bodkin, they are greeted with a cold reception from the townsfolk. Believing this is a sign that they’re on the right track, the trio dig further — only to find themselves in over their heads.
“Maxton Hall - The World Between Us”Season 1
Based on the first novel in Mona Kasten’s bestselling trilogy — “Save Me” — the drama-filled, German series “Maxton Hall – The World Between Us” makes its worldwide debut Thursday, May 9, on Prime Video. Starring Damian Hardung (“Stella: A Life,” 2023) as millionaire James Beaufort and Harriet Herbig-Matten (“Teenosaurus Rex,” 2017) as Ruby Bell, a quick-witted scholarship student and classmate to James, this series follows the duo — first enemies — throughout their star-crossed romance, as they attempt to face a world of secrets, prestige and glamor side-by-side. In the description for the series, Amazon Prime writes: “When Ruby unwittingly witnesses an explosive secret at Maxton Hall private school, the arrogant millionaire heir James Beaufort has to deal with the quick-witted scholarship student for better or worse.” Directed by Tarek Roehlinger (“A State of Emergency,” 2016) and Martin Schreier (“Dreamfactory,” 2019), this six-episode season also stars the likes of Sonja Weißer (“Tatort”), Martin Neuhaus (“SOKO Wismar”), Clelia Sarto (“Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” 1997), Fedja Van Huêt (“Character,” 1997), Eli Riccardi (“Mandy und die Mächte des Bösen”), Julia-Maria Köhler (“Dora Heldt”), Runa Greiner (“The Interpreter of Silence”) and Andrea Guo (“Die geschenkte Familie,“ 2023).
“The GOAT” – Season 1
Putting familiar faces from reality TV through a gauntlet unlike any other, the all-new series “The GOAT” premieres its first three episodes Thursday, May 9, on Prime Video. From the islands of Fiji, to the dating pods of “Love is Blind,” this reality series asks 14 television superstars — “from Bachelorettes to Housewives to Survivors to Drag Racers and everyone in between” (per Amazon MGM Studios) — to live within the gilded walls of “GOAT Manor,” where they will reside alongside their competition, building relationships that could make or break their game. All the while, the competitors will be “hosted and roasted” by comedian Daniel Tosh (“Tosh 2.0”), who presides over the house and the game itself, leading his guests in endlessly grueling challenges — over 20 of them, to be exact. As they earn and break one another’s trust, battling it out in games that activate their wit, grit and spirit, the stars battle it out to be the audience’s new favorite, with one winner eventually earning $200,000 and the coveted title of “Greatest of All Time” (aka: The GOAT).
“Monsters At Work” – Season 2
You’ve heard that laughter is the best medicine — but it just so happens that it’s also the best energy provider for monsters across the globe. Season 2 of the hit animated series, “Monsters at Work,” makes its streaming debut, Sunday, May 5, on Disney+. Featuring the voice acting talents of John Goodman (“Barton Fink,” 1991), Billy Crystal (“Forget Paris,” 1995), Henry Winkler (“The Waterboy,” 1998), Mindy Kaling (“The Office”), Lucas Neff (“Trash Truck”) and more, the second season of this “Monsters, Inc.” (2001) spin-off series follows along with mechanic Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman, “The Perfect Match,” 2005) as he continues his work as a Jokester, now weighing his options as an unexpectedly opportunity arrives from his company’s rivals — FearCo — testing Tylor’s loyalty to his team. Meanwhile, his partnership with Val (Kaling) is pushed further than ever before, leaving Tylor to wonder where he truly belongs. Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s (“The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus,” 1996) 1970 documentary piece, “Let It Be” — now newly revamped and remastered for modern-day viewers — is available to stream on Disney+ as of Wednesday, May 8. This film, first released over fifty years ago, offers a snapshot into the lives of the legendary rock and roll group, the Beatles, as they recorded their iconic 1969 album, “Let It Be” — only one year before the band dissolved. The footage originally captured by Lindsay-Hogg (which was until only recently, collecting dust on 16mm negatives) has since been remastered by Peter Jackson’s (“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” 2001) Park Road Post Production team, and is paired with audio remastered using the same MAL de-mixing tools that recently led to the release of the Beatles’ final song in the recent “Get Back” docuseries (also available on Disney+).
