Family ties
Based on the 1955 novel by late Mexican author Juan Rulfo, “Pedro Paramo,” premiering Wednesday, Nov. 6, on Netflix, follows the titular character’s son, Juan Preciado (Tenoch Huerta, “The Forever Purge,” 2021), as he promises his dying mother that he will return to Comala, the town where he was born, to find the father (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, “The Lincoln Lawyer”) he never knew. The film marks the third adaptation of the source material, as well as cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s (“Brokeback Mountain,” 2005) directorial debut.
