he Crosby Fire Department sponsors the annual Fourth of July events. The parade will start at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, in Ironton and continues through downtown Crosby ending on East Main Street. Join the crowd in the Crosby Memorial Park after the parade to enjoy live music, food vendors, a beer garden and other items of interest. End the day at dusk with a fireworks display put on by the Crosby Fire Department and its members.

he 21st annual Grandpa’s Run for the Walleye will be held Saturday, July 7, at the Crosslake Community Center. The event is one of the signature events of the Crosslake Fourth of July celebration. Run for the Walleye will feature a 10K run, 5K run/walk and Kids’ Sunfish Dash. The 10K will start at 8:15 a.m., followed by the 5K run/ walk at 8:30 a.m. and the Kids Sunfish Dash for kids up to age 10 at 9:45 a.m. The 5K and 10K courses are certified, and races are professionally chip timed. New this year, tune into Hubbard Broadcasting’s B93.3 FM radio and listen to music that’s been choreographed for the display. Organizers seek help to support this annual tradition. Anyone who makes a taxdeductible donation of $100 or more will receive a shout-out of appreciation on the radio broadcast before or after the fireworks display. MISSION TOWNSHIP: INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE ON TAP JUNE 30
T
o kick off the Fourth of July holiday, the annual Mission Township Independence Day Parade will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, starting at Oak Spur and proceeding up Mission Park Drive to Mission Park. Anyone interested in having an entry in the parade should arrive at Oak Spur at 10:30 a.m. to line up. No registration is needed. A trophy will be awarded for the best float.
Following the parade, free root beer floats will be served at the Mission Park pavilion and hot dogs and brats will be sold for the benefit of the Mission Township Fire Department. There will be music and a nature walk through the woods. Booths will offer information on pollinators, including a live look at bees with a children’s activity book, and learn more about the National Loon Center project in Crosslake.

he ninth annual Nisswa Firecracker Run - featuring a post-event crawfish boil, free Pabst and a Slip’n Slide - will include a 10K, 5K and kids run events starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 7, in downtown Nisswa. The 10K will start at 8 a.m. and the 5K in four waves starting at 8:03 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Nisswa. The fun run/ walk will end at the Nisswa Community Center. A chip timing option is available for those who register by Wednesday, June 27. The free kids run for ages 10 and under will be at 9:45 a.m. Registration is not required for the kids run; however, a parent or guardian must be entered in the 5K or 10K for children to participate. Cost for the 5K and 10K is $38 through July 5 ($45 for chip timing) and $40 on race day. Online registration at www. runnisswa.com closes at 6 p.m. Friday, July 6. STARS & STRIPES DAYS FEATURES CHANGED PARADE ROUTE
P
equot Lakes Stars & Stripes Days will feature fireworks, a parade and entertainment to celebrate Independence Day on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 3 and 4. This year’s celebration will feature a new parade route that will wind its way through both the west and east sides of downtown, starting at Pequot Lakes School instead of the Business Park. The parade will go from the school down West Woodman Street, turning north onto Second Street and Front Street before then going east on East Sibley Street where it will cross Patriot Avenue (former twolane highway), turn south on Government Drive, east on Main Street, south on Rasmussen Road (County Road 112) and then west on East Woodman Street back across Patriot Avenue to the school. For the second year, fireworks will be launched July 3 from behind Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 30985 Front St. Recommended viewing locations are Trailside Park, Pequot Lakes High School varsity baseball field, Pequot Lake Middle School parking lot and TDS Telecom parking lot. of Pequot Lakes. 6 p.m.: Bean bag toss tournament; $10 per two-player team; there will be cash prizes. 6:30 p.m.: Band performance by SOLO. After dusk: Fireworks from behind Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 30985 Front St. Wednesday, July 4 7-11 a.m.: Fire department
pancake breakfast, fire hall. 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Craft fair, food vendors and music. 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.: Bungee Trampoline and Kids Climb, Trailside Park South. 10 a.m.: Money in the Haystack and Golden Bobber Hunt, Trailside Park North. 10:30 a.m.: Kiddie parade and bed races (five per team) registration, bandshell, Trailside Park North. 11 a.m.: Kiddie parade, Veterans Memorial Walking Path, Trailside Park North. 11 a.m.: Bed races, Paul Bunyan
Trail in Trailside Park North. Noon: Stars & Stripes Parade. A parade entry form is available online at pequotlakes.com (click on “Stars & Stripes Days”) and at the Pequot Lakes Chamber. Roads closed and parking Main Street (County State Aid Highway 11) and Rasmussen Road (County Road 112) (between Main and East Woodman streets) will be closed to through traffic at 11 a.m. July 4 for the parade. Parking will be available at TDS and some parking will be available at Pequot Lakes High School (cross at stoplights).
Parking will also be available on Patriot Avenue. Handicapped parking will be available on Government Drive south of Main Street and Front Street, as well as at St. Alice Catholic Church. Spaces will be marked. Parking will not be allowed along the parade route or on Main Street (CSAH 11), or along Gravdahl Drive and Rae Avenue between Gravdahl Drive and Rasmussen Road because that will be the fire and emergency route. Vehicles parked in these places will be ticketed and towed.
FIREFIGHTERS TO SERVE PANCAKES
T
he Pequot Lakes Fire Department will host its annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast fundraiser from 7-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at the fire hall at 4638 Main St. Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be
served. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. Those who attend will be able to meet their local firefighters and view firefighting equipment, fire trucks and the fire hall before the parade at noon.
