The Quarry
Near death and desperate on the side of the road, a nameless fugitive drifter (Whigham) is picked up by a preacher (Bichir) who is traveling to his new congregation in the small and struggling west Texas community of Bevel. When questions from the kind-hearted missionary grow too invasive for the
drifter, he murders the man and quickly hides his body in a quarry. He assumes the preacher’s identity and heads to Bevel, where the townspeople are all too happy to help him settle in. Though he’s accepted by the Spanish speaking congregation and his landlady, Celia (Moreno), trouble continues to follow the man.

Summer of soul Celebrate Black History Month in June with ‘Sherman’s Showcase’

As temperatures begin to soar and summer kicks into high gear, TV’s latest sketch comedy sensation re turns to celebrate Black History Month, albeit a bit late.
Bashir Salahuddin (“South Side”) stars as his prime-time alter ego Sherman McDaniels in “Sherman’s Showcase: Black History Month Spectacular,” premiering Friday, June 19, on AMC. Unfazed by the fact that Black History Month is usually cele brated in February, the fictitious vari ety show host celebrates AfricanAmerican icons and takes a look back at memorable moments from his long-running (but also fictitious) se ries “Sherman’s Showcase.” Viewers who really enjoy Sherman’s Black History Month special can hop over to IFC immediately after AMC’s broadcast of the one-hour special to watch the whole thing again.
It makes sense that “Sherman’s Showcase” would come out with a Black History Month special since it’s been self-dubbed “the black est show in the history of televi sion.” In an official news re lease for the upcoming pro gram, the show’s co-creators, Salahuddin and Diallo Rid dle (“Marlon”), joked that the fictitious host “needed a little extra time to get every thing just right.”
IFC ex ecutive Blake Calla way obvi ously has faith that the dynamic duo will deliver with the spe cial.
“Who decided that black history only gets one month, and a cold one at that,” Callaway said. “We can’t wait to see what Di allo and Bashir have created to kick off the summer. This one-hour spec tacular will celebrate black excel lence no matter what month it airs.”
