“Enola Holmes 2” (2022)

The game is afoot once more! A new mystery comes to Netflix when “Enola Holmes 2” premieres Thursday, Nov. 3. Fresh off the high of solving her first-ever case, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown, “Stranger Things”), enterprising younger sister to the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill, “The Witcher”), follows in her brother’s footsteps and opens her very own detective agency. But Enola quickly finds out that starting her own business — especially as a single young woman in late 19th-century London — is anything but easy. Ready to give up entirely, Enola’s luck seems to turn around when a penniless matchstick girl comes to her with a job: find her missing sister. As the case unravels and proves to be more puzzling than anyone could have expected, Enola calls upon the help of her friends and her famous brother to solve the mystery. Based on the young adult mystery books series by Nancy Springer, which is itself inspired by the characters and stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “Enola Holmes 2” is directed by Harry Bradbeer (“Fleabag”) and features a screenplay by Jack Thorne (“His Dark Materials”). The film also stars David Thewlis (“The Sandman”), Louis Partridge (“Pistol”), Susan Wokoma (“Cheaters”), Adeel Akhtar (“The Big Sick,” 2017), Sharon DuncanBrewster (“Dune,” 2021), Helena Bonham Carter (“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” 2007), Hannah Dodd (“Eternals,” 2021), David Westhead (“W1A”) and relative newcomer Rachel Kwok.

“Lookism” - Season 1

Defy convention with Netflix’s newest anime series “Lookism,” premiering Friday, Nov. 4. Based on Park Tae-joon’s popular manhwa (South Korean web comic) of the same name, “Lookism” follows 17-year-old Park Hyung-suk, who has always been considered far from conventionally attractive in a society that favors good looks above almost all else. Relentlessly bullied for his weight, his looks and his family’s financial situation, Hyung-suk transfers to Seoul’s Jae Won High, a prep school with an unconventional approach to education. Just days before he’s due to start at his new school, Hyung-suk wakes to find himself in an idealized version of his own body but quickly realizes his old, “unattractive” body is still next to him in bed. Both bodies are still his, and when he falls asleep in one, he wakes up in the other. As Hyung-suk adjusts to his life with two drastically different bodies, he must learn to navigate his new school and his much more popular life while trying to get to the bottom of his strange new powers. Written by original comic creator Park, “Lookism” voice stars Shim Kyu-hyuk (“The Haunted House: The Secret of the Cave,” 2018), Han Shin (“Dino Mecard the Movie: The Tinysaur Island,” 2019) and Hwang Chang-yung (“Pororo 5: Treasure Island Adventure,” 2019).

In August 2020, Reuters brought accusations of a years-long affair between Becki Tilley, the wife of evangelical leader and former Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr., and Giancarlo Granda, a pool attendant the pair had met in Miami in 2012. However, it wasn’t until the spring of this year that Falwell Jr. and Tilley admitted to the affair, despite Granda insisting that Falwell Jr. was involved in the relationship from the beginning. Told largely from Granda’s perspective, “God Forbid” details the pool attendant’s experience “trapped in a seven-year affair with a charming older woman and her husband ... as he becomes increasingly entangled with the Falwell’s seemingly perfect lives” (per Hulu). Executive produced by Adam McKay (“Vice,” 2018) and Todd Schulman (“The Invisible Pilot,” 2022) of HyperObject, and Alfred Spellman and Billy Corben (both of “Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami”) for Rakontur, the documentary is directed by Corben.

“Crimes of the Future” (2022)

Scientific progress meets performance art in the new body horror flick “Crimes of the Future,” making its Hulu premiere on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31. Set during a time in the not-so-distant future, when science has advanced to such a point that the human body is now capable of drastic transformations and adaptations to better suit its surroundings, the world is divided on the progress. While some people are embracing the new possibilities with regard to genetic and cellular modification, others are wary of the potentially deadly effects and are trying to police it. Amid the politics, a man named Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen, “A History of Violence,” 2005) and his assistant, Caprice (Léa Seydoux, “Midnight in Paris,” 2011), publicly display the metamorphosis of his organs to varying degrees across a series of avant-garde performance events. Written and directed by Canadian filmmaker and master of body horror David Cronenberg (“The Fly,” 1986), “Crimes of the Future” also stars Kristen Stewart (“Spencer,” 2021), Scott Speedman (“The Strangers,” 2008), Don McKellar (“The Red Violin,” 1998), Lihi Kornowski (“Losing Alice”), Tanaya Beatty (“Yellowstone”), Nadia Litz (“Hotel Congress,” 2014), Welket Bungué (“Berlin Alexanderplatz,” 2020), Efi Kantza (“Sisters Apart,” 2020) and newcomer Tassos Karahalios.

“Marvel’s Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell” (2016)

Hulk smash your way onto Disney+ with “Marvel’s Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell,” available now on the streamer. In this 2016 animated film, Nightmare (voiced by Matthew Waterson, “Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia”) is determined to take over the world by crossing over the Dream Dimension. When they catch wind of the villain’s nefarious plan, the Hulk — voiced by Fred Tatasciore (“Team America: World Police,” 2004) in Hulk form and Jesse Burch (“What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” 2012) as Bruce Banner — teams up with his fellow superhero, Doctor Strange (voiced by Liam O’Brien, “Critical Role”) to stop him before it’s too late. Based on the Marvel Comics characters created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, “Where Monsters Dwell” is directed by Mitch Schauer (“Garfield and Friends”) and features creative direction from Eric Radomski (“Batman: The Animated Series”). Edward Bosco (“Helluva Boss”), Chiara Zanni (“Good Luck Chuck,” 2007), Mike Vaughn (“Scream: The TV Series”), Laura Bailey (“Critical Role”) and Michael Robles (“Comrade Detective,” 2017) also voice star.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” (2009)

Tune up and tune in for “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” available to stream now on Disney+. Following the success of the first live-action/ CG-animated film two years earlier, “The Squeakquel” sees the return of Simon (voiced by Matthew Gray Gubler, “Criminal Minds”), Theodore (Jesse McCartney, “Chernobyl Diaries,” 2012) and, of course, Alvin (Justin Long, “Jeepers Creepers,” 2001) as they sing and squeak their way through life, which this time includes school, their careers and a rival group of female chipmunks called The Chipettes. With their adopted dad Dave (Jason Lee, “My Name Is Earl”) as their mentor, they have a pretty good handle on things, but that doesn’t stop the trio from causing their fair share of ‘munk mischief. This sequel features an all-star cast of famous voices and faces, including Zachary Levi (“Chuck”), David Cross (“Arrested Development”), Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”), Anna Faris (“The House Bunny,” 2008), Kathryn Joosten (“Desperate Housewives”) and Aimee Carrero (“Elena of Avalor”).

“My Policeman” (2022)

On Friday, Nov. 4, the highly anticipated new romantic drama “My Policeman” makes its streaming premiere on Prime. Telling a story of forbidden love amongst a landscape of changing social conventions, “My Policeman” follows young policeman Tom (Harry Styles, “Dunkirk,” 2017), teacher Marion (Emma Corrin, “The Crown”) and museum curator Patrick (David Dawson, “The Last Kingdom”) as they embark on an emotional journey in 1950s Britain. After meeting on a beach during the summer, Marion is immediately enchanted by Tom and the two begin a relationship. But when Patrick becomes fast friends with the couple, a burgeoning love between himself and Tom complicates matters even further. As the young trio falls into a romantic triangle that will change their lives forever, a flash forward to the 1990s finds them all reeling with longing and regret. As the pieces of their fallout are revealed, the older Tom (Linus Roache, “Homeland”), Marion (Gina McKee, “Notting Hill,” 1999) and Patrick (Rupert Everett, “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” 1997) have one more chance to repair the damage from their past and move forward together. Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts, “My Policeman” is directed by Michael Grandage (“Genius,” 2016) and features a screenplay by Ron Nyswaner (“Homeland”). Kadiff Kirwan (“The Stranger”), Emily John (“Dig Ophelia Dig,” 2020), Dora Davis (“The King’s Man,” 2021), Joseph Potter (“Casualty”), Freya Mavor (“Industry”), Richard Cant (“Mary Queen of Scots,” 2018) and Maddie Rice (“Every Blank Ever”) also star.

“Unhuman” (2022)

Don’t miss the bus; the horror comedy “Unhuman” makes its Prime Video debut Monday, Oct. 31. While on a school field trip out into nature, a group of kids and their teacher have their lives forever changed for the worse when their bus crashes. After assessing the damage and realizing there are no immediately life-threatening injuries, they begin to look for a way out. But their handle on the situation is quickly lost when they are taunted by someone — or something — outside the bus. Now the group must decide if they are safer in the bus, getting picked off one by one, or if they should venture out into the wilderness where their attacker is lurking. Co-written by Patrick Melton (“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” 2019) and Marcus Dunstan (“The Collection,” 2012), the latter of whom also serves as the film’s director, “Unhuman” is a Blumhouse production for Epix. Brianne Tju (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”), Benjamin Wadsworth (“Deadly Class”), Ali Gallo (“The Sex Lives of College Girls”), Uriah Shelton (“The Glades”), Drew Scheid (“Fear Street: Part 2 - 1978,” 2021), Lo Graham (“This Is the End,” 2013), Joshua Mikel (“The Walking Dead”) and Peter Giles (“The Life & Times of Tim”) star.
