Story: Krishna and Sudama
Lord Krishna had a very good friend called Sudama who was very poor. Sudama was so impoverished that he couldn’t even feed his children milk or food. Sudama’s wife told him that since Sudama and Krishna were great friends, Sudama could ask Krishna for some food. Even though Sudama didn’t like asking for anything, for the sake of his children, he was ready to ask Krishna for some food.
On arriving at Dwarka, he saw Krishna’s kingdom was made of gold. The gatekeepers started laughing at Sudama because of his torn clothes and denied Sudama entry into Krishna’s home.

Devoured: Relished, eat with pleasure Dire: Very distressing
Krishna upon hearing Sudama, his old friend had come, ran barefoot and greeted and escorted Sudama with a lot of love. Sudama felt shy and guilty of bringing humble ricecakes his wife had borrowed from the neighbours. Krishna snatched the treats and devoured them all. He told Sudama that was the best sweet dish he had ever eaten. As Sudama was too shy to ask for anything from Krishna, he left his palace empty handed, but Krishna realized that his friend must have been in a dire situation.
Sudama on arriving at his village couldn’t find his tiny hut! Instead there was a big palace made of gold and he saw his wife coming out in rich royal clothes. His wife told him that Krishna had ended their poverty forever. They had plenty of food in the house now and they would not have to depend on anyone for anything ever.
