CELEBRATIONS FATHER’S DAY

June 1
MAKE YOUR FATHER FEEL
PROUD AND HAPPY A father plays an important role in raising the child and consequently building a stronger society. Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide on the 3rd Sunday in June every year. A father encompasses every smile and every tear, every joy and every fear in his child’s life. This day recognizes the contribution that fathers make in the lives of their children. Why not make this Father’s Day special? Here are few ideas to celebrate and plan for this great day.
1
Plan any activity
Think about what makes your dad happy. Plan at least one activity to do with your dad that he will enjoy.
2
Make a card for him
Use your innovation and make a card for him that fits his personality to show how much he means to you. List some of the best things your dad does for you that you are grateful for.
3
Make it a family event
It is not necessary that you have to give expensive gifts to please your dad.
Plan something different and creative that will be a memorable moment for him. For example - with the help of elders you can prepare his favourite dishes and give him a surprise. Let the whole family gather at one place to enjoy and relish it and have fun.
5
Make the day joyful
Celebrate your shared experiences
One of the important aspects is that your father would like you to be always attentive and active. Make a promise to him that you will never let him down and will always follow the right direction. Let him feel confident that you love and care for him the same way he does for you.
Sit with your dad, look at the old photos and share your feelings with him and show him how much you care for him. If you have time prepare a collage of these photographs which will be a memory for ever.
Don’t forget to capture all these moments. This will be a memorable remembrance for you all the time. This day is an opportunity to tell him, about your feelings and how much you appreciate him.

History of Father’s Day Sonora Louise Smart Dodd first brought up the idea of celebrating FATHER’S DAY in 1909. She wanted a special day to honour her father, William Smart. When Sonora’s mother died in childbirth with her sixth child, William was left to raise the newborn and five other children by himself on a farm in Washington State. As an adult, Sonora realized how strong and unselfish her dad had been raising his kids as a single parent. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man that made her to think about this day. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June every year. It celebrates the contribution that fathers and father figures make for their children’s lives.

he tabla consists of two drums the ‘bayan’ played with the left hand and the ‘dayan’ played with the right hand. Bayan is made either of clay or copper while dayan is usually hollowed out of a block of wood. Both are covered with the skin fastened to leather hoops which are stretched over the body of the drum by means of leather braces. Cylindrical block of wood are wedged between the down to lower or raise the pitch. When teachers interact on the first day, they often go over classroom rules so that you'll know what's allowed and what's not. Listen to the instructions carefully. Clarify your doubts if you have any related to any matter. Feel free with your teachers and have a good interaction with them. This, in turn, will surely boost up your confidence.
Here are a few tips for a fantastic school year.
Get enough sleep.
Eat a healthy breakfast.
Use good work habits, like writing down your assignments and turning in your homework on time.
Some teachers make learning fun, which makes the lesson more festive and easier to learn. However, sometimes school is just school which means everything can’t be fun all the time. You must take time to learn. Over all, school revolves round learning which is the most important thing in life.
Try your best to complete your work in time always
Don’t be nervous all the time. Keep a sense of humor.
Take your time with school work. If you don't understand something, take guidance from your teachers or elders
As you spend ¼ of the day in school, consider it as your second home and have a good rapport with everyone.
So, students, the countdown has begun ….. GET, SET and GO. Plan a successful academic year and have fun and achievements at your school… YOUR SECOND HOME.
Ease the family into a school year schedule. It is quite natural to feel lazy during summer vacation. Even parents are at ease as there is no hotch-potch morning schedule. Parents should also be well prepared a few days before the new academic year begins. The first day of school is not the time for a drastic adjustment of household sleep schedules. Instead, ease children back into a school year routine gradually. During the last two weeks of summer, re-introduce a school year bedtime. Begin waking late sleepers earlier and earlier, closer to the hour they'll need to rise when school begins.

Brainfeed interacted with a principal and students related to their opinion on Back to School.
W hy like this?? Whhaatttt???? School is re-opening? We just started enjoying our vacation. It is shocking to hear that our holidays are over and I am speechless. I cannot understand why parents and teachers say that this is long vacation. For us it is too short to recover from the final exams stress. Again new batch of teachers will be ready with new books and homework to put an end to our freedom. But there is hope as the teachers are not so serious in the beginning for few days and we can do a lot of chatting in the class. As our friends are back again, we all together can play and have more fun. With this little excitement I will go to my school with a fresh feeling.
M.Yugandhar 6th std, Deepu Public School Eluru
Comfort Zone Home to school, is the transition from ‘comfort zone’ to a higher level of trails and adjustments. Integrity, warm affection and atmosphere of industry makes it complete. The students look forward to new challenges in all the fields and soak in the atmosphere of school comprising of teachers, friends, competitors and quest for knowledge.
Mrs. Archana Nigam Principal, DPS Kalyanpur, Kanpur
The teachers eagerly await fresh faces to mold and guide and feel fulfilled to see the light and aura of knowledge in them. The school management helps to ensure a conducive environment by providing all the facilities and infrastructure which makes the teaching process smooth and success oriented. Thus I believe ‘Home to school’ signifies joining unity of reason and faith to learning and growth.
We become ‘Seniors’ It is June now and our school is set for re-opening. I am excited with many feelings those are fresh and pleasing too. I am eager to meet my friends after a long break. We can share our happiness with our unlimited stories of experiences we had during our vacation. I learnt preparation of some delicious snacks and dishes which I would definitely share with my friends. Though I have a little worry that my vacation is soon getting over, a new excitement is filled in my heart. We are stepping into Class 10 and now we all are going to be treated as ‘Seniors’ in our school. I am conscious about the new responsibilities and expectations. I am aware that I need to put more efforts to realize this. I am excited that apart from class room sessions, we will have more lab visits to carry out many interesting experiments and increase our knowledge.

KUDOS Ananya Wins National Spell Bee Contest
Vanalatha
When you were declared as the National Champion of India’s largest spelling competition, what were your feelings? I was ecstatic! I hadn’t expected to win, and when I was finally declared the winner, I felt extremely joyous. Lot of practice is required for participating in this competition. How did you prepare for it?
Being an avid reader made this Bengalurean to achieve success at the age of 14. Ananya G Upadhya of Sri Kumaran Children’s Home CBSE, Bengaluru became the National Spell Bee Season 8 winner on March 8. The competition this year was conducted across India and engaged more than 3 lakh students across 800 schools in 30 cities by testing their mettle in English spellings. Ananya shared her views to Brainfeed about her journey and success in the competition.
Yes. I prepared using various spelling books that I had acquired from participating in local spelling bees. I also played online games wherein I could listen to a recording of the word, read its definition and type the right spelling, to score points. Besides, I also studied word patterns depending on language of origin, and roots of words too. I have been an avid reader for many years, and
this helped me develop my vocabulary and spelling. Many spellings are asked in the competition. Which one did you feel was the most difficult and how did you manage to spell it? The one I found the most difficult was ‘cicerone’, meaning a guide. Although I recalled having seen this word before, I was unsure. However, this was a word passed to me from my cocompetitor, who had tried it with an ‘i’ in the end. Since that was incorrect, I decided to go with an ‘e’ in the end as the word and its meaning was similar to ‘chaperone’. There was a great competition between the top 16 spellers of India. Can you brief up your journey? What did you learn from the other competitors?
It was a great learning experience. I took two online tests. After clearing them, I had to take the Level 3 test at the Radio Mirchi office in Bengaluru. The top 16 spellers were then selected to participate in the semifinal which was held in Mumbai. The semifinals consisted of four contestants each, and the winners from each of these round competed in the finals. From my fellow competitors, I learnt different methods of preparation. I also learnt that most good spellers are avid readers. We still keep in touch, and share interesting and hardto-spell words with each other. All the competitors would have been very nervous at the end of the competition. What was the winning word for you? Yes. I was also quite nervous. My winning word was ‘desuetude’, meaning a state of disuse. You are recognized throughout the nation now. What are your future plans? My plan is to work in and excel at software engineering and writing. I also want to do something for my country.

Latest studies indicate that penmanship helps to focus more on the subject than the keyboard. Note-taking using laptop is a common scenario in many colleges today. Around 33 words a minute would be the speed of note-taking on an electronic device and whereas it is 22 words a minute, if it is done with the pencil or pen manually. Though it is advantageous to take notes on computer, it would allow you to capture little more, a research says: Students those who have taken notes on laptop forget

maximum content after 24 hours, than the students who take notes with the help of a writing instrument.
Long hand notes also have a better result and students possess more grip on the subject compared to the students who write in short hand.
These students are found much better than other students as they recall spellings better, manage speed and write more quality answers than the ones who just read and attend the exams. Students
those who write all the contents after their revision and before their examinations perform better in their exams.
Note-taking, whether it is short hand or by using laptop or with the pen, is always good for the purpose of better reference. But
While preparing for exams, writing down once is like doing. Only reading the content is like knowing. And people say, “Knowing is not doing. Doing is doing.”
More than anything, when I write my content, I am more contentful than when I am typing. june 16

How do Astronauts Communicate in Space?
What are radio waves? Radio waves are electromagnetic waves and can travel easily in a vacuum and are the best use for communication. Electromagnetic radiation is transmitted in waves or particles at different wavelengths and frequencies. According to NASA radio waves have the longest wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from about 1 millimeter to more than 100 kilometers. They also have the lowest frequencies, from about 3,000 cycles per second or 3 kilohertz up to about 300 billion hertz, or 300 gigahertz.
e all know that sound is commonly associated with air. Sound is also transmitted by particles in a solid, liquid or gas colliding with each other. The atoms on Earth are close enough to let the sound glide by the air. Sound is made when air molecules vibrate and move in a pattern called waves or sound waves. On Earth, the sound travels through air, but what about space where there is no air? Space is a vacuum; approximately there is one atom per cubic centimeter in space. With such low density, atoms are not close enough for the sound to travel or bounce and reach the eardrums. Sound cannot travel through vacuum. So, in simple terms, there are no atoms, no waves and hence no sound in space. Spaceship doesn’t actually make noise in space unless they are in the atmosphere of planet.

of sound. Inside the spacecraft, there is plenty of air, so they just talk normally. When they are spacewalking, they talk by means of radios in their helmets. The radio waves, again, have no problem in space, but Astronauts they’re not sound. They’re communicate radio, which has to be with each converted into sound by the other in astronauts’ headsets. The space astronauts communicate through the over the Ultra High use of radio Frequency (UHF) radios in waves. their spacesuits.
Any sound that is heard in space has to come from other means such as from the electromagnetic spectrum and these waves are not sound. Astronauts communicate with each other in space through the use of radio waves. Radio wave signals are sent to their headsets which then translates the signal into the form
When an astronaut speaks, the words are picked up by the microphone in their helmet and transmitted to the radio in the other astronaut’s suit and then expressed through the ear piece the other astronaut is wearing.

TRANSIT OF MERCURY On May 9, 2016, the solar system’s inner most planet migrated across the bright disk of the Sun. Mercury transited the Sun for the first time since 2006. This Transit of Mercury was visible for at least several hours in most of the world, including the US, Canada, Europe, South America, Africa, and most of Asia. What causes a transit of Mercury? A transit of Mercury across the Sun takes place when the planet Mercury passes directly between the Sun and a superior planet, becoming visible against the solar disk. During a transit, Mercury can be seen as a small black disk moving across the face of the Sun. Transits of Mercury can happen in May or November with May transits being about half as frequent as November transits.

Therefore a transit of Mercury is happens 13 to 14 times per century. Twice in its orbit, Mercury crosses the Earth’s orbital plane at points called nodes. When Mercury is travelling from North to South, it is called a descending node; and when Mercury is travelling from South to North, it is called an ascending node. Descending node transits can only happen during the first half of May, and ascending node transits in the first half of November. At other times of the year, Mercury at inferior conjunction would either pass north or south of the Sun’s disk. THE FUTURE OF TRAVEL
HYPERLOOP riginally proposed as an idea by US entrepreneur, Elon Musk, in 2013, Hyperloop is a transportation system in which pressurized capsules shoot through reduced pressure tubes at over 1,220 kmph. It would whisk passengers between San Francisco and Los Angeles in half an hour. Imagine a capsule filled with people hovering inside the tube. Inside the tube a low pressure environment is created very similar to an airplane that is at high altitudes. So the capsule travelling inside the tubes can travel really fast with very little energy.
O
According to Musk’s plans, the capsules would ride a cushion of air blasted from underlying skis, propelled by a magnetic linear accelerator, running above or below ground and along low pressure steel tubes.
Costing about $6 billion, the first operating passenger services is expected to be ready by 2020. • The capsules nose will have compressor fans to transfer air from front to rear and power the air cushion that suspends capsules.
• The capsules are powered by external electric motor placed at less than 1% of tube length.
• Air pressure inside the tube is to be just 9% of normal sea-level pressure.
• Passengers will be carried in capsules suspended on overland pipes.
Each capsule can carry 28 passengers.
Hyperloop claims to be more environment friendly and cost effective to build. The tube-based system would remain unaffected by weather events. june 16

Cryptozoology: is there anything out there? By Andy Keedwell Discovering new species Deep in the Rwandan jungle in 1902, the German explorer Von Beringe aimed and fired at what appeared to him to be a hairy man-like creature. Later, scientists examining his specimen realised it was a completely new subspecies, the mountain gorilla, of which today only a few hundred survive. Nobody outside the rainforest had ever seen a mountain gorilla before – it was completely unknown to science. Can there be more mysterious animals out there still? Scientists agree that there may be many unknown insects or bacteria but they doubt the existence of larger animals – megafauna. One group who actively disagree are the cryptozoologists, who study ‘hidden animals’ whose existence has not been proven. Cryptozoologists’ evidence So what evidence is there that these ‘cryptids’ (unknown animals) exist? Cryptozoologists take animal-based folklore and legend seriously. For centuries, tales have been told around Lake Tele, Congo, of the mokelembebe, an immense aquatic herbivore with a long neck. Could it be real? Animal tracks, too, can provide clues such as the footprints seen in the 1950s in the snows of Sikkim, in India, that may or may not belong to the upright, almost human snowman of the Himalayas, the yeti. Cryptozoologists also investigate ancient artwork such as panels from the mighty walls of Babylon that show the sirrush – a scaly, horned, lion-footed dragon. But photographs are hard to come by! Old or new? Researchers believe these cryptids may be completely new species or prehistoric survivors. Stories of giant bats called ropen in Papua New Guinea could point to the survival of Jurassic pterosaurs, with huge wingspans and mouths like crocodiles. And a weird, shaggy, dog-headed mammal called the bunyip, apparently spotted in nineteenth-century Australia and said by early Australians to be a fierce meat-eater, could be a surviving prehistoric marsupial. Do we believe them or not?
Activity 2 First, put the words of each sentence in the correct order. Then decide if they are true or false, according to the text. Perhaps it walks like an ape – nobody has yet been close enough to tell. 6. Some cryptozoologists believe it lives in water where it finds plants to feed on.
Activity 4 Can you substitute ‘who’ or ‘which’ for ‘that’ in these sentences?. Examples: One group who/that actively disagree are the cryptozoologists, who study ‘hidden animals’. Answer: Yes One group who actively disagree are the cryptozoologists, who study ‘hidden animals’. Answer: No 1. The woman who works in the shop is very tall. 2. ‘Real’ scientists are unconvinced by cryptozoologists’ claims, saying that they rely too much on folklore and imagination. Short Story t is true that we all work to earn money and lead a luxurious life. In this routine hectic schedule many of us forget about our family, friends and the value of other relationships. We have to plan our schedule in such a way that we give equal time to our family also. Here is a short story about a father and a son, where the son teaches his father that spending quality time with family is more important than money.

It became a regular habit for Raghu, to come home from work late, tired and irritated. One day his son was waiting for him at the door. SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?” RAGHU: “Yeah sure, what is it?” SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?” RAGHU: “That’s none of your business but if you want to know, I make `1,000 an hour.”

His son smiled and said, “Oh, thank you daddy!” Then, he took some money from his pocket. Raghu saw that his son already had money, and started to yell at him. “Why do you want more money if you already have some?” Raghu grumbled.” His son replied, “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do.”
Raghu became furious and said, “If the only reason you asked for is to borrow money, then you march yourself straight to your room.” The son quietly went to his room and shut the door. Raghu started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that `500 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. He went to his son and said, “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. Here’s the `500 you asked for.”
“Daddy, I have `1,000 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”Tears rolled from Raghu’s eyes. Raghu realized his mistake. He put his arms around his son, and he begged for his forgiveness and promised his son that from the next day he would have dinner with the entire family. Therefore students, we should not let time slip through our fingers. Manage your work along with your family.
SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow `500?”

Professor: “Do you know Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Geography, physiology? Sailor: No. I don‛t know.

A SEAGULL can drink salt water because it has special glands called exocrine glands, located in supraorbital grooves of the skull that filter out the salt.
Professor: What the hell do you know on earth? You will die of illiteracy. After a while the boat started sinking. Sailor: Do you know swiminology and escapology from sharkology? Professor: No, these are very strange words. Can you explain? Sailor: “Well, sharkology and crocodilogy will eat your headology and you will dieology because of your mouthology.
