space. On the concave space in the southwest of building exist two small gardens, surrounded by the building and getting a previous peace in the blatant city. Benefit from the layout of back sets, majority of apartments have outdoor patio, green yard or sunshine room and it seems to live in the quadrangle, which can make people feel traditional life of Old Beijing by the special spatial experience.
The geographical position starts from the context of old Beijing, introduces the current texture of quadrangles on the west side and Hutong streets into the plot and integrates together. Then, on the east side, form a complete faรงade along the main street and echo with large-scale street space. Meanwhile, architectural height changes with textures, reduces from eastern faรงade toward the southwest, which makes for the integration between the new building and urban environment of both sides and increases the sunshine area. The building opens toward the Forbidden City to provide nice view to the interior

in securing the complex facade panels to the structure and glass curtain wall system. The secondary structure for panelling system was a discussion of much debate, shifting from grid layout to material choices in order to optimize strength, weight and tectonic connections. Finally, after all the technical decision have been made, i have been working with the lighting design consultant to give the final night outlook to the building.
The Architecture is devided into three parts, grand theatre, library and exibition center. The building will set back in the south east part of the plot to leave space for the entrance square. In this project i was incharged to work on the facade skin, from the development of the design to the installation. Started different part of the facade following needs in light, turning the facade from a decoration into an element that express different quality of light and space insinde. I have been working in parallel with the facade contractors studying the tecnical aspect of the facade panels testing different ways of realizing them. A full scale mockup was designed and built in order to experiment with different approaches

minal, parking and Shopping Mall) with 9 hotel towers on the top (hotels, apartments and services), plus the entrance building and the mosque. The central plaza is a reinterpretation of the classic geometrical Arabic garden, which is overlapped to a contemporary functional layer. The façade perforation pattern is a reinterpretation of the Islamic musharabieh, generated from an interaction between a homogeneous grid of windows and a traditional decorative texture. At night a subtle and pulsating lighting animation will appear on the central part of the façade, hosting the prayer rooms, drawing a kind of calligraphy on the façade, like a prayer made of light.
The project is a hotel complex located in the Makkah City, the most important site for Islam. The main elements involved into the design are the direction of the holy mosque Al Haram, magnetically orienting the buildings, the presence of the mountain as background of the scene, the dialogue with the scale of the urban surroundings, and the city’s colour palette. The inspiration for the architecture comes from the rocky conformation of the territory, the memory of ancient towers in the desert and the mirage as vision and hope. The volume of the project introduces an intermediate scale between the city and the mountain, where the functions are organized in a podium inserted into the mountain (bus ter-

BLDG JIAN location: Yantai / China year: 2012-2013 status: build program: office- gallery space area: 1000 mq position: architect team: Zhao Chao / Li Huihui / Zhang Xin office: CU office
The concept of Villa Jian came from the local architecture word called “Jian”. In the local architecture culture, there was one commonly used for building space base unit that is “Jian”, one “Jian” represented a width of about 3.3 m to 3.6 m of spatial scale, this word “Jian” not only represented a space base unit, but also strongly linked with the local traditional form of construction. The client‘s requirement was to build 11 “Jian”. Thus, there was a given condition of designing a big house with a doubleslope roof covering 11 “jian”. The building consisted of main two basic functions: office space and exhibition space, both of the functions were limited to a semi-open private property. The starting point was how to combine
the semi-open exhibition space with a semi-closed office space under a single roof. The idea was finally to divide both the exhibition and the office into two parts: publicexhibition and private exhibition, public office and private office. Public exhibition and office space were placed in the first floor, and the private exhibition and private office were placed in the second floor. The entire function spaces have become ideally an X-form in section; the center position of the X has become the hub of linking two functions and two stories. A wide staricase that can be used for projections, performace.

THE LIGHT BOX location: Taichun / Taiwan year: 2011 status: commission program: exibition space / office status: concept design area: 4000 mq position: architect team: Erik Amir,Thomas Batsheslager, Victor Quiros, Gador Luque
Located in a residential area in Taichun that in the next years will be deeply trasformed, the project should relata with a temporary context, accomodating it’s future changes. The actual surrounding were anyway really chaotic in different aspects, typology of buildings, colors, materials, for this reason we kept a basic shape for this project, elemental, a perfect cube, a mile stone in this fast evolving environment. We focused like this to create an introvers world, intimate world composed by showroom, offices, temporary exibition space and performance.

ALUART forum location: Zagreb/ Croatia year: 2014 status: competition program: art school gallery status: concept design area: 50.000 mq team: Alessandro Colli / Tomas Kozelsky
Competition to design the exibition The primer focus of our designing process was off course the quality of exhibition spaces. We decided to follow the “white box” concept to introduce sterile environment providing undetermining background for any type of exposition. The idea of our disposition layout aims towards an ambient feeling emerging from combination of purity of exhibition spaces and urban entropy of a city street. Permanent exhibition was positioned into the top floor where roof structure creates north-oriented sky-lights.Temporary exhibitions are divided into two alternated typologies. Upper one is placed in the third floor and provides a “white box” space lit by combination of artificial and natural light. Its floor plan has a pure rectangular shape and
inner space doesn’t introduce any invasive volumetry or disturbing facade openings. Lower temporary exhibition is connected with an entrance lobby in the ground floor. This connection can be kept open and so provide spectacular space for opening ceremonies and events. In this case the northern and southern facade of the ground floor can be open and so creates a full width space floating from the city street into a prominent greenery of an academic ground. East area of the second floor is the building’s major architectural space attempting to quote urbanity of surrounding exteriors. It is three floors high room utilizing main staircase running vertically along south wall and providing entrances to upper galleries and hig exibition space at the same time.

LOCUS AMOENUS location: Vittorio Veneto / Italy year: 2012 status: competition 1st price program: exibition / installation phase: realized position: project leader
The entry of the competition was about design a contemporary garden for the city of Vittorio Veneto, located in the most industrialized area of Italy, an area where the concrete of the industry already more than 20 years ago kick out from theyir place beautiful gardens and the agricoltural landscape has been transformed into an industrial one. The crisis has come, lots of industries moved to eastern europe, so a lot of concrete skeleton remain on this destroied landscape. For these competition o wrote a nove, where i tell a story of these gardens that they were kicked out from theyr own land, but now, are coming back to take again what belong to them, trying like this to give a new chance to the society witch lives in this region, to built a new, clean, and environmental friendly system and economy.

fundamental, because the analysis of a social and territorial situation can not be based on statistic data. Photography allowed me to speak with people, and better understand the space where they live. The role of the landscape in the management of the territory is becoming everyday more a requirement. With this research i do not intend to save Veneto, but i tried to do a project who serve as detector of ther egion’s landscape situation, a land where social and economical practice have changed leaving behind them strong negative elements, but trough a conscious project also the bad peculiarity can be turned into a resource.
For this project I decided to work on the Veneto region, which is my region, and the place where i grew up. Its landscape has changed so much in the last 50 years, originally a rural territory, it became the richest part of italy thanks to industrial development, and now that also the industrial epoc has gone, what remains of it are diffused prefabricated buildings, empty industrial areas, shopping malls and urban sprawl. By watching the landscape we can understand a lot about who inhabits it, and by observing the man we can understand the landscape where he lives. Starting from this assumption I can say that the quailty of the landscape is the base of the identity of the population and viceversa. This part was

TOPSY-TURVY location: Treviso / Italy year: 2010 program: retail - residential phase: university program team: Daniele Franzi / Maria Busolini
The project realized for the ex railways deposit took form from intrinsic features of the area. The main characteristic of it is its composition, an embankment which is 4 meters higher from the city level. The area is close to the Sile river -which cuts longitudinally a big part of Veneto region- it is powered by springs that devoid the high plain to the low plain. The last fundamental element is the most common housing typology diused in Veneto, which according the analysis, is still the most requested; we are talking about single or two family houses. We implemented new synergies between public an private spaces by weaving these elements in the project area, ensuring the constant presence of citizens inside the park. The embankment bring us to built underground houses with small gardens. Every citizen, would be free to plant in his garden his preferred vegetation, and it will aect the park inuencingit by dening dierent relationships between private and public
space. The underground path will be exclusively for pedestrians, and it will be extended trough all the embankment, shaping a uniform grid that will ll the area with dierent functions. Also the commercial elements will be underground, small shops that will allow the area to have two dierent levels of use: physical and functional. The path allows an eventual agglomeration of houses, and shop extensions, leaving to the people wide opportunity to modify the sistem depending on what will be the market or the inhabitants needs.
