STUDY OG

STUDY WEG-OG December 2021

- From 2002 to 2021 our discipline has made several changes. - Fewer fences and efforts. - The distances in the combinations are now reasonably safer than in the past. It’s very rare to see a horse taking off after one stride in a two strides combination. - Concerning the height and width of the fences we are more or less at the same level. - Tokyo; 4 rounds versus 5 before but two rounds with 17 efforts and two with 18. Finally, we have only 5 fences and 6 efforts less! - Over the past 30 years, the length of the poles and their weight have been reduced ( 3.50m and around 11 kg vs 12.5/13 kg), as well as the depth of the cups,(18 mm today vs 20,25, 30 mm). The light colours of the poles and the decoration elements are other factors of technical issues, particularly at an actual speed of 400m/mn. - Considering the welfare of the horses, the lack of appeal for our sport to a general public and the increasing power of animals rights organizations, which evolution could we imagine for the future?

- I do believe that it’s one of the most important issues we all have to face.
