‘Jesus is Muslim’ Irks Ohio Christians B i l l b o a r d s promoting that Jesus is a Muslim and the Muslims love Jesus too has been causing uproar around Columbus, Ohio, as a number of Christians planned protests on Saturday, March 29, at the location of the billboards. “Although we support the Islamic community’s right to free speech, as well as their right to post messages on billboards, we do not support the hi-jacking of the name of Jesus Christ in their attempt to lure uninformed Christians into their religion,” Coach Dave Daubenmire of Pass the Salt Ministries told Christian Today on Friday. “Although Islam honors Jesus as a prophet, they do not believe that He is the risen Son of God. During this most Holy Lenten season we find the messages on the billboards to be insensitive, dishonest and deserving of a response from concerned Christians. “We will be on the streets to proclaim Jesus is not Muslim but Jesus is Lord.” Daubenmire is one of the local Christian leaders who planned a prayer vigil in protest on Saturday. Relations (CAIR-St. Louis). It was suggested to offer help to an increasing number of people living in poverty in St. Louis. According to the St. Louis area food bank, the city of St. Louis has 80,675 people living in poverty which is 23 percent of the population. There are 135,000 youth who are at risk of hunger and 85 percent of children enrolled in St. Louis Public Schools rely on free or reduced-cost meal programs. Organizers hope that the money raised during the event would be used to provide summer meals for families whose children no longer get free or reduced school breakfasts and lunches. “We hope to attract people of all faiths to participate in this walk+run against hunger,” said Faizan Syed, executive director of CAIR-St. Louis. “Our goal is to raise funds to feed the hungry and homeless within the city and to raise awareness of the problem in our community.” Though there are no official estimates, the US is home to an estimated Muslim minority of six to eight million. An earlier Gallup poll found that the majority of Americans Muslims are loyal to their country and optimistic about
their future in the United States. Another US survey has revealed that the majority of Americans know very little about Muslims and their faith. According to Islamic Shari`ah, a capable Muslim pays 2.5 percent mandatory payment and spend it to help the poor and the needy. In August 2013, Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) was recognized amongst the top
10 highly rated charities in the United States. The ranking was announced by Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities which has developed an unbiased, objective, numbers-based rating system to assess over 6,000 of America’s best-known charities.

Muslims Seek Probe of Illinois Mosque Shots CAIRO – Leading American Muslim organizations have called for an FBI hate crime investigation of shots fired at Illinois mosque on Tuesday, March 25, strongly condemning the violence perpetrated against the religious minority. “Incidents such as this have a chilling effect on worshippers,” Ahmed Rehab, Executive Director of Chicago office of the Council on AmericanIslamic Relations (CAIRChicago). “No one should have to go to their place of worship worried if they’ll make it back home alive,” he added. The attack occurred early on Tuesday morning when a single shot was reportedly fired through the dome of the mosque during the Fajr, or break-of-dawn, prayer. According to Imam Nazir Chahin, who was leading prayer at the time, the bullet penetrated the dome and caused debris to fall and disrupt the prayer service of the some 40 worshipers. No injuries have been reported. Orland Park Police were immediately contacted and are currently investigating the shooting. CAIR-Chicago contacted the Orland Police, demanding increased police patrols at the mosque and asking for an FBI investigation on the attack. Earlier this month, CAIR called for a similar FBI probe into a shooting targeting a Mississippi mosque. The Orland Park Prayer Center had faced opposition from when it was being built. Operating for many years, the mosque has been lauded by local officials and interfaith leaders for its positive contributions
to the economic and cultural benefit of Orland Park. “Given the previous attacks on houses of worship, we are reminded that whether it is a mosque, a Gurdwara or a temple, such an attack is not just an assault on the particular

faith community it targets, but against all Americans and on our coveted core value of freedom of religion,” said Rehab. In response to previous attacks on American mosques, CAIR published a booklet called “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety”. The guidelines are designed to be used by mosque officials, Muslim school administrators and other community leaders and activists who seek to identify and eliminate vulnerabilities to bias-motivated attacks. Similar Concerns The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC), an umbrella group of over 60 Islamic organizations in the greater Chicagoland area, has shared similar concerns over the latest attack.
“We plan to work closely with the Orland Park Prayer Center and local law enforcement to bring those involved in this heinous act to justice.”

Last month, Islamic Foundation North in Waukegan, a CIOGC member organization, was one of over 20 houses of worship vandalized in the span of a week. The culprit has since been apprehended and charged with the help of interfaith partners and Lake County law enforcement. US Muslims, estimated at between seven to eight million, have been sensing hostility since 9/11 attacks. In the last five years, there has been “anti-mosque activity” in more than half of the US states, according to the American Civil Liberties Union. The US has enacted a federal law in 2000 that meant to prevent zoning laws from discriminating against religious institutions. All across the US, mosques have been facing fierce opposition recently. At least 18 mosque projects — from Mississippi to Wisconsin — have found foes who battle to stop them from seeing light citing different pretexts, including traffic concerns and fear of terrorism.

US Campus Bans Pro-Palestine Activities BOSTON — Complaining of a growing crackdown on their activities, dozens of pro-Palestine students and Boston activists marched last week in Northeastern University to denounce the suppression of their activities inside campus. “As activism is growing, the campaign to suppress that activism is also escalating,” Maria LaHood, a staff attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights, told NBC news on Monday, March 24. “Universities are punishing what they should be encouraging: open debate,” she added. Shouting “Free, free Palestine!”, protesters gathered outside the university protesters hoisting a 30-foot-long Palestinian. The protest followed complaints from t Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) of an increasing bias against their activities inside the campus since 2012. The crackdown on SJP in Northeastern University (NEU) has ended with suspending the activities of the group earlier in March as well as banning their meetings in the campus and halting university funds. The controversial decision to suspend the SJP followed the
distribution of about 600 fliers in the campus last February by its students. The fliers included mock eviction
notices which warned students that their dorm was “scheduled for demolition in three days”. The flier, which has a disclaimer at the bottom: “This is not a real eviction notice, #BostonMockEviction”, also included figures of the displaced Palestinian families. Students affirmed that the fliers aimed at depicting the suffering of Palestinians who are constantly forced, by the Israeli authorities, to evacuate their homes without explanation, asserting that the university doesn’t require approval of flier usually.

“There are hundreds of fliers in different places around campus, and almost none of them have the university’s stamp of approval,” said Max Geller, an SJP spokesman. “It is common practice for student groups to put up fliers around school,” claimed Charles Flewelling, a thirdyear law student who’s part of several Northeastern student groups. “None of [our] fliers had university approval.” But neither he nor any of his group members “have received any form of discipline or warning,” Flewelling added. Suppression According to Tori Porell, the president of SJP, the double standard policies of NEU aim at censoring the pro-Palestinian group. The result is that “our free speech is suppressed,” Porell said. The decision to suspect SJP group was coupled with increasing accusations of being anti-Semite for raising awareness about the Palestinian dilemma inside the campus.
The bigotry allegations were dismissed by SJP members who are advocating for the freedom of speech. “I don’t believe these universities think [SJP’s activity] is harassment or racism,” LaHood, the staff attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights, said. “Or else they would say so. I think they’re looking for a way to stop them in order to alleviate pressure” from pro-Israel groups and donors.” According to university students and staff members, the bias against pro-Palestinian groups has been endorsed by commercial interests. They claim that millions of dollars of funds from Jewish Americans to NEU leads to administration’s backing to pro-Israeli policies, while suppressing opposite views. Laura Benedict, a NEU sophomore, mainly attended the rally because “the university always sides with the money,” she said. “People here are saying an unpopular opinion, and it’s conflicting with the monetary interests of the university.”

US Muslim Family Sues Empire State CAIRO – A Muslim family that has been kicked outside observation deck in the Empire State building after praying briefly has filed a $5 million lawsuit against the owners of the building for humiliation and embarrassment before their two kids and visitors of the tourist hotspot. The suit claims that Fahad Tirmizi, 32, and his 30-year-old wife were unfairly targeted “because they were Muslim, wearing traditional Muslim attire, and/or engaged in Muslim prayer,” New York Post reported, citing the lawsuit. Filed at Manhattan federal court, the suit names the midtown icon’s owner and property manager Malkin Properties, security company Andrews International Inc. and others as defendants.
The problem dates back to July 2 when Fahad and Amina Tirmizi of Farmingville visited the Empire state building with their two kids. Visiting the 86thfloor outdoor Observatory, the family wanted to do the evening prayer around 11 pm. The wife picked a section where there was little foot traffic to pray. After finishing, her husband followed only to be interrupted by a security guard who strutted over to Fahad and “menacingly poked” him with his hands and feet. The guard loudly told him he “was not allowed to pray while at the Observatory” to be joined by other guards who
told the family they had to leave immediately” and “forcibly escorted” the “plaintiffs and their children to the
patrons from exercising their religious beliefs in the Empire State Building and/or the Observatory,” the suit says.

Jesus is Muslim’ The Jersey-based group, according to its spokesman Ashfaq Parkar, also operates an information line seeking to “promote peaceful coexistence through dispelling misunderstanding about the faith.” “There’s nothing wrong with having differences in terms of what to believe, and there’s nothing wrong with talking about them and getting know each other,” he said. Muslims believe in Jesus as one of the great Prophets of God and that he is the son of Mary but not the Son of God. He was conceived and born miraculously. In the Noble Qur’an, Jesus is called “Isa”. He is also known as Al-Masih (the Christ) and Ibn Maryam (Son of Mary). As for his crucifixion, Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified but was lifted up to heaven. Muslims believe that Jesus will come back to earth before the end of time to restore peace and order, fight the Anti-Christ (Al-Masih Al-Dajjal) and bring victory for truth and righteousness.

A Unique Experience By Heba Haleem “Wear this,” my mom said as the plane landed at the airport. I quickly pulled on the abaya, a long black robe over the coat I was wearing. Soon, as a fourteen-yearold American teenager, I was clad in black from head to toe. I couldn’t believe I was in Saudi Arabia; I would be living in Saudi Arabia for six months, experiencing the unique Islamic environment. At school, I received many questions. My Saudi friends at school found many parts of my American life fascinating. They were extremely curious about this life, and wanted delve deeper into the alluring side of America. They raved about American shopping malls and excitedly inquired if I had ever met certain political figures. As I answered their questions, these girls seemed to look at me with awe and inspiration. I realized that they were experiencing America vicariously through me as I told them stories. It felt exciting to be able to share a part of myself with a group of girls so interested in what I had to say. At the same time, I admired the enthusiasm these girls had for their own Saudi culture. Each of them wore beautiful scarves and embroidered
black gowns, and excitedly lined up to pray as the melodious Islamic call for prayer reverberated through the air. I could sense the unity that these girls had; while curious about western ideals, they proudly embraced their Saudi identity and expressed themselves in ways exclusive to their

society. It felt amazing to be able to experience the way these girls saw Islam, and I developed a deep sense of respect for the oneness and homogeneity of the religious mindset I was getting to know. Today, the black robe is a manifestation of my American Muslim identity. It
symbolizes both the Islamic values I appreciate, as well as how I express myself as an American Muslim. Here in America, I will not hesitate to slip that robe on just to feel its warmth and comfort remind me of who I am today.

Arabs Reject Jewish State, Back Syria Peace KUWAIT CITY – In a bid to reach a unified stance after two days of disagreement, leaders of the Arab countries meeting in Kuwait city have asserted an earlier position against the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state. “We express our total rejection of the call to consider Israel as a Jewish state,” Arab leaders said in a statement issued at the end of the two-day meeting in Kuwait City, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported on Wednesday, March 26. For years, recognition of Israel as a Jewish state has been one of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s key conditions for any future peace agreement with the Palestinians. In the 1990s peace process Israel got Palestinians reorganization, however, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been calling for “acknowledging it as the national homeland of the Jewish people”. The Palestinians have agreed to recognize Israel as a state but have rejected the further demand to recognize its Jewish character because it would amount to an effective renunciation of their cherished right of return for refugees from the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. Wednesday’s statement only reflected an earlier position repeated in former
meetings of Arab countries. Commenting on the leader’s decision, the Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas said that Palestinians “reject even discussing the issue.” The Palestinian leader has also denounced the Israeli plans to control
Al-Aqsa mosque, Muslims’ third holy site, saying that it is “totally reject.” Arab states are due to call for assigning $100 million (72.5 million euros) as monthly aid for the Palestinian Authority. Israel occupied the holy city of AlQuds (Occupied Jerusalem) and the West Bank in the 1967 war and later

annexed it in a move not recognized by the international community or UN resolutions. Since then, Israel has adopted a series of oppressive measures to force the Palestinians out of the city, including systematic demolition of their homes and building settlements. S y r i a Divisions The final statement followed wide divisions on suggestions for a permanent solution for Syria threeyear conflict. While Syria’s opposition called for “sophisticated” arms, UN-Arab League peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi insisted on the need for a “political solution” to the conflict, urging an “end to the supply of arms to all parties.” “I do not ask you for a declaration of war,” opposition Syrian National Coalition chief Ahmed Jarba said, urging Arab leaders to put pressure
on world powers to fulfill pledges to supply arms. “Let me say quite frankly that keeping Syria’s seat empty... sends a clear message to Assad that he can kill and that the seat will wait for him”, Jarba said. The final declaration, however, supported calls for a political solution to the conflict which has cost over 146,000 lives. “We strongly condemn the massacres committed by the Syrian regime against unarmed people,” leaders of the 22-member Arab League said. “We call for a political solution to the crisis in Syria based on the Geneva I communique,” calling for a peaceful transition of power, they added. The revolt against Assad began as peaceful protests calling for democracy and greater rights, but gradually turned to an armed struggle, pitting the Sunni majority against the president and his minority Alawite sect. More than 146,000 people have been killed in two years and a half of fighting between Assad’s regime and opposition fighters in Syria. The fighting has forced more than nine million Syrians to flee their home inside and outside their country.

Israel To Silence Al-Quds Adhan AL-QUDS - Israeli plans to lower the volume of Adhna (call to prayer) at Al-Quds mosques have sparked outrage among Muslims in the holy city who vowed to foil the Israeli plans to remove the Islamic identity of the Muslims’ third holiest city. “The Azan will always come out from the minarets of Al-Quds, and particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib, directorgeneral of Muslim endowments and Al-Aqsa affairs, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday, March 2. Muslims’ outcry followed reports about a new legislation enforced by Jerusalem municipality to lower down the volume of the Adhan in the mosque of Al-Quds (occupied east Jerusalem) to reduce noise levels. The move was deemed as a bid to eradicate the Islamic identity in the disputed land. The scheme is part of Israeli attempts to “obliterate the Islamic culture in the holy city,” al-Khatib argued. “Arab and Islamic world must prevent Israel from Judaizing the
city of Al-Quds” he added. Similar criticism was expressed by Jerusalem’s grand mufti Muhammad Hussein who argued
and in Jerusalem in particular have been targets of a vicious campaign by the occupation authorities,” the mufti said in a
that “only Muslim had the right to decide on such matter.” The Mufti added that the move aims to underscore Jewish sovereignty in the holy city. “Mosques in Palestine in general
statement cited by Maan news agency. “The occupation authorities make light of all heavenly laws and international law as they follow a systematic plan designed to efface all Arab and Palestinian
landmarks in Palestine and replace them with Jewish landmarks.” Earlier, the municipality has announced forming a task force to measure the noise levels of all mosques in Al-Quds. The mosques with exceeding volumes will be handled with a screening system that will guarantee a lower voice, according to Ynet. The pilot measuring of two mosques in southern Jerusalem would cost $57,000. Al-Quds is home to Al-Haram AlSharif, which includes Islam’s third holiest shrine Al-Aqsa Mosque, and represents the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Israel occupied the holy city and the West Bank in the 1967 war and later annexed it in a move not recognized by the international community or UN resolutions.
