ORGANIZERS’ BIOS Marwan Ahmad - President Marwan Ahmad is the founder and organizer of the Halal Expo & Summit. He is the president of Arabesque Media, a Virginia based marketing and event planning company. He is also the founder and president of the Arab American Business Council. Mr. Ahmad has a degree in Computer Information Systems and education in digital marketing, TV Producing and non-profit management. He has been in the marketing and event organizing business since 1994. He served on a media training mission to Italy with the State Department, touring four cities to speak, educate and train local ethnic media. Mr. Ahmad serves on the Board of Inside Arabia publication base in Washington DC. Mr. Ahmad received a number of awards from various community and government agencies for his community services.

Elisabeth Myers - Summit Director A lawyer with a background in business and journalism, Elisabeth Myers is an expert in advocacy and communication and has extensive knowledge of the politics and culture of the Middle East and North Africa. She has advised U.S. and Middle East-based organizations on doing business in the region, women’s entrepreneurship, and investment opportunities. She is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Inside Arabia, a digital magazine providing in-depth analysis of the MENA region, and serves as an adjunct Associate Professor of Law at the American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.

Aya Khazandar - Marketing Associate Aya Khaznadar is a senior student of Communications at George Mason University. She is a Marketing associate with Arabesque Media and serves as an intern with the Arab American Business Council, managing membership and events coordination.

SPEAKERS’ BIOS Habib Ghanim Habib is the President and CEO of USA Halal Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and the Director of the ISWA Halal Certification Department and has been for over 21 years. The USA Halal Chamber of Commerce, Inc, and the ISWA Halal Certification Body are internationally recognized Halal Certification bodies which are internationally accredited HCBs (Halal Certification Body). Habib has an educational background in Accounting from the University of District of Columbia and Project Management from Phoenix University. He has had countless certifications and trainings in the Halal industry over the last few decades. He has been involved in the Halal industry since the 1980’s in various ways. He is a former director for the DC Arab Chamber of Commerce and a former board member of the Eastern Montgomery County Executive Board in Montgomery County, Maryland. He and his organization are current members of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce. He has helped write many standards and policies related to food industry and the Halal industry. He is currently the Vice President of the World Halal Council (WHC), which is a federation of over 50 Halal certification bodies all over the world. Habib and the ISWA Halal Certification body are founding members of the World Halal Council (WHC). He is also a member of the World Halal Food Council (WHFC).

Safia Ghanim Safia C. D. Ghanim is currently the Operations Manager for the USA Halal Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and a Senior Technical Auditor for the ISWA Halal Certification Department. She has Master’s Degree in Development and Education from the George Washington University as well as a Bachelor’s Degree Psychology and Certification in Modern Language and Linguistics. She has also attained several teaching certifications. Her past work experience includes positions in the Maryland House of Delegates and United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs as well as the Abu Dhabi Education Council in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She is a former board member of the Network of Arab American Professionals (NAAP) both for the local DC chapter and the National Board. She has over 15 years of experience in the Halal industry. She has received Halal trainings and certifications both in the United States and overseas. She performed audits for the ISWA Halal Certification Department all over the United States and several other countries abroad.

Eizaz Azhar Eizaz Azhar is a Malaysian entrepreneur, musician, and media producer. He is currently Head of Commercial at the Halal Development Corporation in Malaysia. A graduate of the inaugural class of the prestigious Asia School of Business in collaboration with MIT Sloan, he is also the recipient of the Fellowship Award, a full scholarship by Bank Negara for the Master of Business Administration degree, which he received in 2018.

SPEAKERS’ BIOS Haitham Al-Sayed Haitham Al-Sayed, Regional Manager, joined Saturna Capital in 2016. He earned his BA in Social Sciences/Pre-Med at the University of California – Irvine and MBA in International Finance and Management from Thunderbird, School of Global Management. With over 18 years experience in the financial services industry, Haitham has held several roles, including Senior Private Banker, Affluent Sales Director, and VP – Regional Private Bank Manager at his time with Wells Fargo, and as a Wealth Management Director at TIAA prior to joining Saturna Capital. Mr. Al-Sayed is active with charitable and community activities, including serving as a board member of New Horizon School – Irvine, CA. He is married with two children and enjoys spending time with his family, traveling the globe, and soccer.

Peter S. Unger Peter Unger is Vice President & Principal Consultant of IQEIS & President Emeritus of A2LA. Mr. Unger has been involved with accreditation since 1978. He served President since 1996, Vice President of A2LA since 1986 and Associate Manager of Laboratory Accreditation at the National Institute of Standards and Technology) since 1978. Mr. Unger served as Chair of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) for 2010-2016. He is an author of many papers on accreditation, active participant in the establishment of ISO/IEC standards for accreditation and author of a book on Achieving Accreditation for Your Laboratory, 1992. Mr. Unger currently consults with accreditation bodies and conformity assessment bodies to help them attain international recognition. Mr. Unger has a BS degree in systems engineering from Princeton University and a Master’s in environmental management from George Washington University.

SPEAKERS’ BIOS DR. ADEL ELDIN Adel Eldin MD, FACC, FACP, MBA, GGA (Global Goodwill Ambassador) has been in private practice in Florida for 21 years. Known nationally for patient advocacy, senior’s rights, education and community outreach, Dr. Eldin is widely published in journals and has participated in clinical/research trials. Also an entrepreneur working on solutions for the health care crisis, he has received prestigious awards, including the First Humanitarian Award, special recognition from President Obama for community service, and best small business of the year. Dr. Omar Wali Dr. Omar Wali is the founder and President of American Halal Meat. As a wholesale halal meat distributor, he has made it his goal to ensure that Muslims in the Washington metropolitan area have access to affordable, high quality, certified halal meat. Over the past three decades, Dr. Wali has seen firsthand the controversies surrounding what is halal, what isn’t halal, and what certifications to trust. He has relied heavily on his degree in veterinary medicine, his experience as an international meat inspector, and his strong faith and belief in Allah to help guide the community in making choices that are good for their faith, and good for their dinner tables.

Syed Salman Ali Syed Salman Ali is the Vice President for Corporate Sales in the Mid-Atlantic Region at Guidance Residential. Salman has over 20 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry and has been with Guidance Residential for over 13 years. Salman has a passion for Islamic Financing and enjoys educating others on the subject. Salman is a history enthusiast from Virginia who enjoys collecting and studying historical artifacts.

Aly Ghanim Aly Ghanim is the Quality Manager along with being a Senior Technical Auditor for the USA Halal Chamber of Commerce Inc./ ISWA Halal Certification Department. He holds a B.S. in Financial Economics from the University of Maryland Baltimore County along with a Certificate in Financial Planning and in Islamic Finance. He has several years of experience in dealing with domestic and international halal laws and regulations along with being trained in several different ISO standards. He has been trained in Halal Food Processing and Technology and has many years of experience in compliance with the manufacturing industry ranging from slaughterhouses, further processing facilities, and cosmetics among many others within the halal scope. He has facilitated and participated in several different workshops and events with the goal helping both consumers and producers understand the Halal market and aiding companies looking to expand their products into new markets.

SPEAKERS’ BIOS Quintin Gray Mr. Quintin Gray, President and CEO, Q. Gray and Associates, has more than 30 years’ experience helping U.S. companies market their food products in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe while serving as Agriculture Counselor at U.S. Embassies. This includes tours in Saudi Arabia as the Agricultural Trade Officer and in Dubai as the Agriculture Counselor. He currently is a Lead Instructor for the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) in compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), helping food importers and exporters comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations. He is a highly sought-after speaker on various trade policy issues e.g. speaking on the Importance of International Trade Deals, the Impact of the Trump Administration withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, and on the potential impact of the United States, Mexico, Canada, Agreement (USMCA). Samah Safi Bayazid

Samah Safi Bayazid, is a Jordanian award winning filmmaker who lives in Washington, DC. She studied filmmaking and screenwriting at the New York Film Academy in New York City. Samah has worked professionally in the filmmaking business since she was 22 years old, making her a pioneer among professional Arab filmmakers. Ebony McMorris Ebony McMorris is an award winning journalist whose combined career in Radio and TV spans nearly 20 years. Currently she serves as the National News Correspondent for Reach Media, a subsidiary of Radio One; and is the Executive Producer for The Critical Hour Radio Show on Sputnik News 105.5 fm in Washington, DC. She works as a contributor to the Al Sharpton Show on WOL 1450 and Sirius XM 126 Monday-Friday. On Wednesdays, you can hear her special segment, Social Media for Social Justice, which dives into the world of digital engagement and how it shapes culture. McMorris previously served as the News and Community Affairs Director for Radio One DC stations Majic 102.3; 93.9 WKYS; Praise 104.1; WYCB 1340; and WOL 1450. She hosted a weekend community affairs program on Praise 104.1 and Majic 102.3. Her campaigns such as, Get Fit Movement; Tuesday’s with Noah’s Ark; and Service Saturday’s garnered national attention and served as bridge to connecting, feeding and enriching communities. Her hard work and dedication to the community helped Praise 104.1 win the prestigious Crystal Bell Award for outstanding community service. Her work in Radio One began in 2006 as a freelance reporter interviewing national newsmakers from Congressman John Lewis to Jamie Foxx. She went on to field produce and conduct interviews with high-ranking political officials and newsmakers for NBC News, Nightly News, Today Show and NBC News Channel. McMorris is native Washingtonian and proud University of South Carolina alum. She loves giving back to the community, mentoring young women and teaching on community empowerment through media engagement. A prolific writer, she is currently working on a book that chronicles the lives of centenarians in Washington, D.C. Ebony McMorris truly believes sound wisdom has guided her career and lives by Proverbs 1:5, “A wise man hears and increases learning; a man of understanding attains wise counsel.”
