US Convention Offers Window to Islam Thousands of Muslims from across the US have been invited to attend the annual convention of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) to shed light on the fundamental principles of Islam, offering a window to the fastest growing religion across the globe. “For several decades Islam has been in the forefront of discussions in America and across the globe and more so since the tragic event of 9/11,” a statement published on ICNA site reads. “Americans begin to express fear more than ever before, raising questions such as what is Islam? Who are Muslims? What are the tenets of the faith? How “to trust” or “not to trust” a Muslim neighbor, co-worker, a friend or a fellow citizen. “Much of this fear and mistrust stem a lack of knowledge about Islam and Muslims. Then there are those who would recycle hearsay and call it Islam, feeding the flames of fear and ignorance.” More than 20,000 Muslims from across the United States are expected to attend the convention of the Muslim American Society (MAS) and
the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) which runs from Saturday May 24 – 26, 2014. This year’s theme of the three-day convention, which opens tomorrow, is “Islam; Faith * Submission * Service”. “This year ICNA-MAS would like to present facts about: What does it mean to have faith in God, The Creator of all that exists? How is it expressed in everyday life? How does faith make us better human beings?” ICNA website says. “Then when we have faith in The Creator how do we submit to Him? How important is it to submit to The Almighty in order to grow spiritually? What happens when man submits to his desires and ego? Customs and heresies? Falsehood and evil?” A host of leading Muslim figures will attend the conference as Nouman Ali Khan, founder and CEO of Bayyinah Institute, Sheikh Omar Suleiman, member of the Islamic Circle of North America’s Shari`ah Council and ICNA’s Institute of Learning Foundation (ILF), and prominent Sh.
Yasir Qadhi. The event would also be attended by Ustadh Wisam Sharieff of Bayyinah Institute, Sheikh Abdul Nasir Jangda, Imam Siraj Wahhaj and Dr. Jamal Badawi, Professor Emeritus at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. “Renowned speakers and thinkers from across the United States will gather to shed light on these very fundamental principles of Islam,” ICNA website added. “They will tell how through faith, submission and service the hearts were ignited and the light of Islam reached every nook and corner of this globe. And it is through faith, submission and service we can make this world as better place.” Another parallel event will be hosted by Young Muslims (YM) organization under the theme “Hearts of Glass: Shadows of Doubt”. The event will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center, the premier location for conventions, tradeshows and expositions in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Continued on page 5

Tennessee’s Taliban Ad Backfires Newspaper ads comparing Tennessee legislature on abortion to the Taliban has drawn criticism from both sides of the abortion debate, calling it “offensive” for depicting a man in a turban trampling on a woman. “It shows an image of a man with a turban stepping on a woman as if a turban equates violence against women,” Remziya Suleyman, director of policy and administration for The American Center for Outreach, a Nashville-based Muslim education and advocacy organization, told The Tennessean. “Comparing the Tennessee legislature to the Taliban is absurd. What they don’t realize is the image is offensive, unnecessary and violent. If we care about women, why use such scare tactics and demeaning images to get your message across?” The controversial ads were placed in newspapers around the state by a group called Tennesseans for Preservation of Personal Privacy urge votes against the ballot measure, calling it the “Tennessee Taliban Amendment.” Under the headline “Vote No on the Tennessee Taliban Amendment,” the ad urges voters to vote against Amendment 1. The amendment, if enacted, would give lawmakers more authority to pass abortion restrictions. Some versions of the ad include the image of the man in a turban labeled Tennessee Legislature with a foot on a woman lying on the ground. Posting the ads, the group has defended them and added that the
only goal was to educate voters on the Amendment. “No offense was ever intended to the Muslim community,” Michel Kaplan, an attorney for Tennesseans for Preservation of Personal Privacy, said. “The cartoon was the expression of the Taliban and Taliban’s treatment of women, and the fear that there are those in the legislature who would like to control women’s rights.” The group was facing other troubles after the State Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance Director Drew Rawlins said the group should have registered with the state before posting an ad urging voters to vote a specific way in an election, giving them five days to comply. Kaplan said the organization was exercising its right to free speech but noted that “to the extent we are required to comply, we will comply.” Controversial The controversial ads have apparently offended leader on both sides of the abortion debate. “I think the images are disturbing and offensive, and they don’t have any place in this debate,” said Jeff Teague, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee and a leader of the Vote No on One political campaign. Yes On 1 spokeswoman Jennifer Hicks said: “It is unfortunate that pro-abortion opponents of Amendment 1 have chosen to open their campaign in such an offensive manner.”
“Taliban rule relates to rape, slavery, murder and brutal degradation of women, not to social policy debates in the state of Tennessee. “Those placing the ad should apologize to Tennesseans but especially to those refugees in our state who have been the victims of such cruel regimes,” she added. The state’s newspaper published were also divided whether to include the offensive illustration or no. Laura Hollingsworth, president and publisher of The Tennessean, declined to publish the illustration, saying it “might have been viewed as insensitive and inflammatory.” On the other hand, Knoxville News Sentinel Publisher Patrick Birmingham ran the illustration. “Obviously it’s a political debate and it’s one group’s opinion. You could say the illustration was over the top, but there was nothing objectionable about the ad. This is the business we are in.” Abortion is banned in Islam unless for health reasons. While Islam permits preventing pregnancy for valid reasons, it does not allow doing violence to it once it occurs. Muslim jurists have agreed unanimously that after the fetus is completely formed and has been given a soul, abortion is haram. It is also a crime, the commission of which is prohibited to the Muslims because it constitutes an offense against a complete, living human being.

Fun Fair Revives Hamilton Mosque Dream HAMILTON – Getting hands together to meet payment deadline, members of Hamilton Downtown mosque have hosted a fun fair and cultural event to gather raise money to complete the construction of their dream mosque. “They’re very much excited to use their energy to raise fund for the project,” Hafsa Ali, a fundraising coordinator for the mosque, told CBC News on Sunday, May 11. To raise money for the expensive undertaking, the mosque’s membership organized a fun fair following a suggestion by the youth in the congregation. Held on Saturday, the festival boasted face-painting and inflatable playgrounds for the kids. It also included a clothing sale, a henna station and food. At the middle of the day, Muslim attendants took a break to pray inside the mostly bare warehouse-like room
that will be their future mosque. Since 1992, Hamilton’s downtown mosque has been serving the Muslim community in Canada with memberships of more than 5,000 people. The current facility, with 35,000 square feet, was no longer able to comprise the numbers of worshipers, especially in Friday’s prayers. Last March, the congregation’s leadership announced they had signed a deal to buy the York Boulevard building, which continued to operate as a fitness club until earlier this spring.
The arrangement allows the mosque to pay off the $3.5-million purchase price in a series of scheduled installments without being charged interest. After revving up their fundraising efforts in the fall, members have collected more than $1.4 million to put towards the payments, said Wahed Al-Jabry, the mosque’s board director. With the next cheque due in late fall, the short-term focus has shifted to raising money for urgent projects like installing new washrooms, he said.
“Between now and November, we need to work hard so we can do fundraising for the renovation,” Al-Jabry said. The new facility would provide a wider prayer space, a community centre, a daycare centre and an immigrant welcome centre which would be supported by translation services. “It’s not just for the Muslims. It’s also for the community at large,” Ali said. Muslims are the fastest growing religious community in Canada, according to the country’s statistical agency, Statistics Canada. Canada’s Muslim population increased by 82 percent over the past decade – from about 579,000 in 2001 to more than 1 million in 2011. Muslims represent 3.2 percent of Canada’s total population. A survey has showed the overwhelming majority of Muslims are proud to be Canadian.
US Muslim Youth Fight Distress Facing increasing social pressures that drift many youth away from religion, an American youth organization will be hosting a conference for young Muslims in the United States to create awareness about allowed pleasures in Islam, clarifying internal struggles they face in their daily life. “Focused on specific contemporary issues that young adults face, the Youth Conference 2014 aims to provide relevant, applicable answers to questions that seem to be unanswerable,” the conference page on ICNA Convention website says. “A crisis brings temporary hardships, but the guidance of Allah (SWT) brings everlasting tranquility and ease.” Organized by the Young Muslims (YM) organization, the three-day conference will begin on May 24. Themed the “Hearts of Glass: Shadows of Doubt”, the event aims at providing a remedy for this epidemic crisis of faith.

Veiled American Muslim Runs for Congress Making history for the second time, an American Muslim woman is running for the Congress, aiming to advocate women’s rights and underserved people by picking a seat at the 11th congressional district of California. “The diverse 11th Congressional District is full of families like mine. I’ve spent my career fighting for women, working class families, underserved vulnerable people, low-income families, and small businesse,” candidate Cheryl Sudduth, wrote in a campaign post on her Facebook page. “I’ve been a change agent in my workplace, my community & this district -- which struggles with high dropout rates, underachievement, and chronic unemployment -everything that will make a real difference in the halls of Congress.” Running for a Congress seat, Sudduth, a mother of three, has gained support of various sectors of her community especially the African-American and Muslim minorities along with women. The Muslim candidate has spent her life in serving her community by advocating the rights of underserved and disabled people. “Having aggressively represented the needs of the underserved and vulnerable people in my
community and throughout the

law since 1963, after all,” Sudduth wrote on her Facebook page. “It’s time Gender & Racial Parity in Education & Health Care become a reality - not just idealistic rhetoric...it is the basis of civil rights legislation over 50 years ago.” F i g h t i n g Unemployment The Muslim candidate has been contributing in reducing unemployment rates in her society by offering jobs to hundreds of people. “My work at Goodwill serving those with disabilities and disadvantaging conditions, as well as my volunteer service with various community-based and interfaith organizations, underscores my commitment to create greater awareness about and finding solutions to closing the growing gap between the wealthy and those in chronic poverty,” Sudduth stated. Along with advocating women’s
right, Sudduth is deemed as a “problem solver” by several of her supporters. “An experienced policy advocate, I have a stellar reputation for being a principled leader who takes unwavering, independent stances on issues,” she said. Inciting voters to give her their voices, Sudduth wrote: “It’s time we treat people with respect and grant them economic opportunities regardless of their perceived color, culture or credit rating”. “It’s time we step off of the menu and take our rightful seats at the decision-making table. “Stand with ME to claim that seat in D-11...it’s time.” Democrat Keith Ellison became in November 2006 the first American Muslim elected to Congress in US history. In 2008, Democrat Andre Carson was elected to the House of Representatives, becoming the second Muslim Congressman in the country. There are between six to eight million Muslims in the United States, making up less than three percent of the country’s 300 million population.

US Muslims Share Islam with Campus A Muslim students’ group at Western Washington University have held various events on campus this week as part of Islamic Awareness Week on campus, educating their colleagues about Islam and correcting misconception about the Islamic culture. “The goal of [Islam Awareness Week] is to touch on a lot of misconceptions and misrepresentation of Muslims and Islam,” Western junior Nafeesa Imtiaz, Muslim Students Association club president and bicultural anthropology major, told The Western Front on Friday, May 16. “Oftentimes students and community members don’t really have any idea what Islam is.” The events, held ove the weekend, included hosting guest speakers to address misperceptions students may have about Islam. Hosted annually by WWU MSA, the week was launched last Monday, May 12, to correct misconceptions about Islam. As expected, the issue of Islamic headscarf, or hijab, for women was put to discussion. “The purpose of it is not to oppress
a woman,” Imtiaz said. “Personally, I think wearing the hijab is very liberating.” For Imtiaz herself, wearing the hijab is a form of modesty which allows her to present herself to her friends, community and family based solely on her character and personality. Stereotypes of Muslims being
violent were also addressed during the week by Western senior Danyal Lotfi, a MSA public relations coordinator and political science major. “Being called a terrorist is a very common experience for Muslim people, especially Muslim teenagers who are in middle school and high school. I’ve heard this story all too often,” Lotfi said. Clearing up inaccurate perceptions
about Muslims is something Lotfi, as a Muslim, feels very strongly about, he said. The week events were concluded on Friday with a dinner ceremony that gathered different students and guests. Media Misconceptions Islam awareness week was a way to combat ignorance and educate Western students about Islam. “Sometimes our knowledge of Islam is based solely on media,” Imtiaz said. “So we want to touch on that and answer any questions or address any misconceptions people have.” The MSA students were also leading a role in uniting students from all religions and backgrounds. A sharp example was the appointment of a non-Muslim, Western junior Cody Brower, a political science and Spanish double major, as a PR coordinator for the MSA. Brower, who has many friends
US Muslim Veterans Mark Memorial Day Commemorating the memory of soldiers who died while serving the country, a leading American Muslim advocacy group has released a short video featuring American Muslim veterans to mark the upcoming Memorial Day. “My name is Dawud Walid. I’m executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on AmericanIslamic Relations, or CAIR, and I served honorably in the Navy,” the CAIR representative says in the 44-second video. Memorial Day is a US federal holiday wherein the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces are remembered. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, will be celebrated next May 26. The video includes two other American Muslim veterans who served the country in the army and navy. “My name is Sakinah Mujahid. I’m on CAIR’s Minnesota board of advisors and I served 13 years in the Army. [In Spanish] “My name is Wilfredo
Ruiz. I am an attorney with CAIR’s Florida office and I am a former officer in the US Navy.
“American Muslims serve our nation’s military and have died for our freedoms.” The video ends with the tag line: “On this Memorial Day, CAIR honors all who served our country.” The United States is home to a Muslim community of between six to eight million.

required to state their religion. But according to the American Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affair Council, there are more than 20,000 Muslims serving in the military.

An earlier Gallup poll found that the majority of Americans Muslims are loyal to their country and optimistic about their future in the United States. A recent survey found that American Muslims are the most moderate around the world. It also showed that US Muslims generally express strong commitment to their faith and tend not to see an inherent conflict between being devout and living in a modern society. Continued from p. 1

Since 1968, ICNA has worked to build relations between communities by devoting itself to education, outreach, social services and relief efforts. Unfortunately many enthusiastic journalists pick up these hearsay stories and create explosive headlines claiming this is what Islam is and these are the Muslims. Not to mention how erroneous is their perception of both Islam and Muslims.

Muslim Family Humiliated, Denied US Entry ONTARIO – A Canadian Muslim family has been humiliated, fingerprinted and treated like criminals before being denied entry to the US, putting a spotlight on US borders’ discriminatory policy against Muslim travelers. “This many years later and still it’s the same thing, we’re being treated like criminals,” Mehdiya Hudda, 22, whose Muslims family was banned from entering US, told The Record on Saturday, May 17. “After all these years, they’ve not changed. It just boggles my mind. “It’s not justified. It was like we had no rights, being on that line between the US and Canada,” Hudda added bitterly. For the Canadian Muslim, her travel to the lands of freedom turned into a nightmare after she and her mother were stopped and detained for about six hours at a US border crossing only to be forced back to Canada on the same evening. Along with the detention, the Muslim family’s belongings including purses, wallets and cellphones were searched. They were also fingerprinted and photographed. The veiled native Canadian and her mother, who is a Canadian citizen that has been living in Kitchener for 25 years, denied having any criminal
records. “None of us have a criminal record or anything like that,” Hudda said. “They turned our car inside out. Everything was a mess. There were papers everywhere. They went through our wallets, our phones.” After long hours of detention, the Canadian family wasn’t given a reason for the detention and travel ban. “You should be given a reason. There should be a concrete reason,” Hudda argued. Hudda was told to contact the US consulate in Toronto to ask about the reason for denying entry. However, she was informed that the consulate “had no information on why she was denied entry”. Humiliating Detained for long hours, the Muslim family complained of failing victims to humiliation after being probed in public with hundreds of travelers gazing at them. “We had to walk in front of all the cars in the line, probably hundreds of people who are thinking, ‘Oh, they must have done something,” Hudda said. “That was just really degrading.”

The bad experience at US crossing borders is not the first for Hudda. Back in 2003, she vowed never to attempt to visit the US again after her family was banned from entering the states to attend an Islamic conference in Washington, DC. Hudda believes that they may have been banned from entering US because of her father, Shafiq Hudda, who is an imam at the Islamic Humanitarian Service, a registered charity based in Kitchener that runs a Muslim community centre and drop-in centre. He has been banned from entering the US since 2003. Refusing to comment on the incident, the US Customs spokesperson Richard Misztal said he couldn’t comment on the specifics of any case, but said anyone hoping to enter the United States bears “the burden of proof to establish that they are clearly eligible to enter the United States. In order to demonstrate that they are admissible, the applicant must overcome ALL grounds of inadmissibility.” According to Misztal, more than 132,000 inadmissible aliens were stopped by the customs and border agents in 2013. “Inadmissibility grounds included immigration violations, criminal and
national security-related reasons,” he explained. Misztal added that anyone found inadmissible can apply for the inadmissibility ruling to be waived. But “the waiver application process can be lengthy and there is a cost per application regardless of the decision on the application.” The Hudda family is not the first for Muslims to be targeted for no clear reason at the US borders. Last February, a US Muslim Air Force veteran complained of being barred from leaving the country after being allowed to care for his terminally-ill mother. In May 2012, fifteen American Muslims, including four military veterans, sued the federal government over being placed on a “no-fly” list for no apparent reason. Earlier in 2011, an American Muslim family was kicked off a JetBlue flight because their 18-month child was flagged as no-fly. Indonesia Islamic Party Back in Center Stage JAKARTA – Ending dreams of an Islamic coalition, Indonesia’s main Islamic party has joined the frontrunner opposition party to endorse its candidate in the upcoming July presidential elections. “Indonesian Democratic-Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and [Islamic] National Awakening Party (PKB) have similar historical traces, ideology and chemistry since the beginning,” Hasto Kristiyanto, PDI-P’s deputy secretary general, told Reuters on Sunday, May 11. PKB, the ally of the moderate Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and the most populous Islamic party in Indonesia, has led Islamic parties in April’s legislative elections after getting 9% of votes. After announcing the results, PKB’s executive Marwan Jafar announced that the party was close to striking a deal with the PDI-P. Working as kingmakers for PDI-P, who failed short of securing the 25 percent required to field a candidate in the upcoming July presidential elections. Under the new coalition, the PKB will support PDI-P’s presidential candidate Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the upcoming elections. PKB’s support is expected to add weight to Jokowi, granting him thousands
of voices of moderate Muslim in the Islamic country. Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, is considered the star of the elections after opinion polls suggested he will almost certainly be the next president of Southeast Asia’s biggest economy.
The opposition leader, Jokowi, has stressed earlier that he aims to deduct the agricultural imports, attaining “self-sufficiency” in the world’s most populous Muslim nation. Jokowi’s is contesting Prabowo Subianto, a former general, and tycoon Aburizal Bakrie in the presidential bid that is due to receive registrations with the election body by May 18.

Although they haven’t announced joining the presidential race yet, Subiantoa and Bakrie are expected to join hands, forming one ticket in July’s elections. Indonesia is the most populous Muslim state where Muslims make up 80% percent of the 220 million population. Nationalist Agenda Competing on a religious background, the PKB asserted that they do not intend to change P D I - P ’ s nationalist agenda. “PKB doesn’t believe in mixing religion with politics,” said Helmy Faishal, a senior PKB official. “The only concern we have about religion is how to ensure religious freedom for everybody, including minorities.” The alliance of PKB and NU has repeatedly vowed to keep “religion out
of policy-making. Although they regularly communicate with PKB, Nahdlatul Ulama has waded into political matters. “What’s important is that our behavior is Islamic and by that I mean upholding justice, rule of law, defending ordinary citizens’ rights, welfare, health, stability-all that is in line with Islam,” said Said Aqil Siradj, the head of NU. “We don’t need an Islamic country or Islamic parties to do that.” The new coalition, however, has ended dreams of a coalition between the country’s five main Islamic parties to field a candidate in presidential elections. During Legislative elections, the country’s five Islamic-based national parties have grabbed a combined 32% share of the national vote, despite of expectations of a huge fall in their popularity. The share is larger than that in 2009 elections when the five parties combined secured 28% of votes. “Islamic parties did better in the legislative elections - very likely because they are perceived as less corrupt than ‘secular’ parties,” said Damien Kingsbury, an expert on Southeast Asia at Australia’s Deakin University.

Nakba App Revives Palestine History CAIRO – Marking sixty-six years on the Nakba Day, a new mobile app has been launched to revive the memories of the creation of Israel on the rubbles of Palestine, highlighting the history of hundreds of Palestinian villages that were emptied by Israeli forces. “This is not a new idea. There are many maps — maybe too many maps — of the villages destroyed. But people do not use paper anymore,” Raneen Jeries, a coordinator for the project at Zochrot, a pro-Palestinian Israeli group based in Tel Aviv, told the Washington Post on Thursday, May 15. “They use smartphones and GPS and apps, and so this is the tool we are using to reach them.” The application, launched by Zochrot group which means “to remember” in Hebrew, pinpoints in Hebrew, Arabic and English the location of more than 500 Palestinian villages that were emptied, overrun or abandoned in the 1948 war. A week after making it available,
there have been 12,000 downloads of iNakba application. The group has also promised another
Android version soon. The app shows a Google map of Palestine, as of 1948, covered with hundreds of brown pins, each representing one of the depopulated Palestinian villages. Those towns, which were destroyed completely, emptied of its residents or turned into an Israeli town, were originally the lands of Palestine before 1948. By taking a pin, the name of the old village appears and later a photograph of the site follows, with a screen of information. Moreover, users of iNakba can log on and add photographs and
video. “We expect an angry response,” Jeries said, because the iNakba app is designed to both inform and provoke. “Occupation Day” The mobile application iNakba is not the only effort to mark the painful memory of millions of Palestinians. Last week in what is widely known by Israelis as Independence Day, thousands of Arab Israelis marched under a banner reading, “Your independence is our Nakba.” The protesters also waved flags belonging to the Palestinian political factions Fatah and Hamas. Angrily commenting on the march, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman condemned the demonstrators as “fifth columnists”. “To those Arabs who took part today in the ‘Nakba Day’ procession and waved Palestinian flags, I suggest that next time
they march directly to Ramallah and they stay there,” he said. The next day, Jamal Zahalka, an Arab-Israeli Knesset lawmaker, was quoted by a Palestinian newspaper as saying that Independence Day should be called “occupation day.” Each year on May 15, Palestinians mourn the loss of Palestine and creation of Israel on its rubble in 1948. On April 18, 1948, Palestinian Tiberius was captured by Menachem Begin’s Irgun group, putting its 5,500 Palestinian residents in flight. On April 22, Haifa fell to the Zionist mobs and 70,000 Palestinians fled. On April 25, Irgun began bombarding civilian sectors of the Palestinian city of Jaffa the largest city in Palestine at that time, terrifying the 750,000 inhabitants into panicky flight. On May 14, the day before the creation of Israel, Jaffa completely surrendered to the much better-equipped Zionist gangs and only about 4,500 of its population remained.

ُ صيف طْب ِخ التسويات السياسية! صبحي غندور رئيس مركز الحوار بواشنطن ليس من الواضح بعد كيف سيكون السياسي المخرج لكل من موسكو وواشنطن ودول المناسب ٍّ االتحاد األوروبي ،من أجل اعادة العالقات الطبيعية بين «الغرب» و «الشرق» عقب التأزم الذي حصل بسبب األزمة األوكرانية، ّ عالمات إيجابية عقب لكن بدأت تظهر ٌ عشية تصريحات الرئيس الروسي بوتين ّ انتخابات الرئاسة في أوكرانيا ،والتي انتهت ثم بتأكيد الفروف وزير بفوز بوروشينكوّ ، أن روسيا ستحترم الخارجية الروسي على ّ مستعدة إرادة الشعب األوكراني ،وبأ ّنها ّ للحوار مع الرئيس الجديد ،الذي بادر هو أيضًا إلى إظهار االستعداد للتفاوض المباشر مع القيادة الروسية. التطور السياسي الحاصل على صعيد هذا ّ مهم جداً لقضايا األزمة األوكرانية هو اآلن ٌّ أكدا وأزمات دولية أخرى .فأوباما وبوتين ّ وصف األزمة في ٍ تصريحات سابقة رفضهما ْ القائمة بين بلديهما بأ ّنها عود ٌة إلى «الحرب الباردة» بين القطبين ،وهما يدركان حاجة عدة مسائل كل ّ ٍ طرف للطرف اآلخر في ّ سياسية واقتصادية وأمنية .فلم يؤ ِّد الخالف الحاد بين واشنطن وموسكو على جملة قضايا ،خالل السنوات العشر الماضية ،إلى قطع التواصل بين القطبين ،بل شهدنا تنسيقًا كثير من األحيان رغم وتوافقًا بينهما في ٍ وجود الخالفات. معنيتان ليس فقط موسكو وواشنطن ّ بمستقبل العالقات بينهما أو بمستقبل أوكرانيا وأوروبا فقط ،بل أيضًا بمصير انسحاب القوات األميركية من أفغانستان وما ستكون عليه أوضاعها بعد ذلك .وهما أيضًا بحاج ٍة للتنسيق بينهما بشأن مستقبل العالقات الغربية مع إيران ،بعد استحقاق المحدد شهر تموز/يوليو القادم ،وهو الموعد ّ لنهاية تفاوض القوى الكبرى مع طهران ملفها النووي .وسيبقى الملف السوري حول ّ ساخنًا على األرض اآلن بانتظار نتائج هذه التطورات في العالقات األميركية/الروسية ّ تطورات تنذر واألميركية/اإليرانية ،وهي ّ باحتماالت إيجابية ال تصعيدية في هذه ٍ المرحلة .وسيكون شهر أيلول/سبتمبر القادم الحد الزمني الذي ست ّتضح فيه معالم هو ّ سيتم إعداده خالل الصيف من مشاريع ما ّ ألزمات عديدة. تسويات وحلول ٍ فإن نجاح مصر على المستوى المحلي العربيّ ، بتثبيت القواعد الدستورية للحياة السياسية فيها وبإنجاز انتخابات الرئاسة بعد إقرار الدستور العام سابقاً ،ستكون كلّها خطوات مهمة جداً الستعادة دور مصر اإلقليمي ّ والعربي في مرحلة صناعة التسويات السياسية ألزمات المنطقة ،ولترتيب العالقات العربية مع دول الجوار اإلقليمي .بل ر ّبما قد تكون القاهرة هي المكان الذي سيشهد اجتماعات دولية وإقليمية الستكمال الجهود ٍ التي بدأت في جنيف من أجل وضع تسوية سياسية لألزمة الدموية في سوريا ،كما بأسلوب أيضًا للتعامل مع الملف الفلسطيني ٍ مختلف عن المفاوضات الثنائية التي رعتها رات مؤش ٌ واشنطن في األشهر األخيرة .وهناك ّ أيضًا عن جاهزية مصر للمساعدة في إعادة االستقرار السياسي واألمني في ليبيا ،بعدما هيمنت الفوضى والميليشيات على مناطقها المختلفة. بشدة األمة العربية كلّها تحتاج اآلن ّ ّ إن ّ
إلعادة الحيوية النابضة في قلبها المصري، أوضاع عربية سارت في العقود ظل في ّ ٍ األربعة الماضية من سي ٍء إلى أسوأ ،ومن هيمنة غير مباشرة ألطراف دولية وإقليمية فإن إلى ّ األمة ،لذلك ّ تدخل مباشر في بلدان ّ العرب كلّهم ٌ أمل اآلن بأن تعود مصر لدورها تستقر أوضاعها األمنية الريادي العربي ،وأن ّ
خاص ًة مهددة باالنفجار، عربية متفجرة أو ّ ّ ّ بعد التصريحات اإليجابية التي خرجت من الرياض وطهران بشأن العالقات الثنائية بينهما ،وما يمكن أن يتركه ذلك من انعكاسات جيدة على أوضاع سوريا ولبنان ٍ والعراق ومنطقة الخليج العربي .وسيساعد هذا األمر حتمًا على فعالي ٍة أكبر للدور
تتحرر القاهرة والسياسية واالقتصادية ،وأن ّ كبلتها التي ديفيد» قريبًا من قيود «كامب ّ ألكثر من ثالثة عقود فأضعفتها داخليًا وخارجياً. ففي غياب دور مصر ،جرى في السنوات حروب القليلة الماضية إشعال شرارات ٍ أهلية عربية في أكثر من مكان .حصل بداية من خالل تداعيات االحتالل ذلك ً األميركي للعراق عام 2003وتفجير الصراعات الطائفية والمذهبية واإلثنية فيه، ثم من خالل اغتيال رئيس الوزراء اللبناني ّ ثم السابق رفيق الحريري في العام ّ ،2005 بالمراهنة على تداعيات الحرب اإلسرائيلية ثم بتقسيم السودان على لبنان في العام ّ ،2006 في مطلع العام 2011وفصل جنوبه المختلف ثم بتحريف مسارات دينيًا وإثنيًا عن شمالهّ ، الحراك الشعبي العربي الذي بدأ بتونس دول ومصر مستقالً ،لكن وجدناه يمتزج في ٍ عربية أخرى مع تأثيرات وأجندات إقليمية ودولية مختلفة ،أراد بعضها توظيف هذه االنتفاضات الشعبية العربية لكي تكون ولصراعات طائفية لحروب أهلية مة مقد ً ٍ ّ ٍ ومذهبية وإثنية ،ولتغيير سياسات وخرائط أوطان وليس حكومات وأنظمة فقط. وقد رافق هذه األحداث والصراعات على نمواً متصاعداً لجماعات األرض العربية ّ التطرف المسلّحة التي استغلت حاالت ّ تمتد وتنتشر، الفوضى والعنف لكي ّ حتى وصلت إلى معظم األرجاء العربية، بينما كانت إسرائيل تستفيد من كل هذه التداعيات العربية لمواصلة عمليات اإلستيطان في األراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة، تحول الصراع األساس مراهنة أيضًا على ً ّ في المنطقة من صراع عربي/إسرائيلي إلى صراعات عربية/عربية ،وعربية/إيرانية، ٍ تبرر أيضًا وعلى تقسيمات طائفية ومذهبية ّ االعتراف بإسرائيل كدول ٍة يهودية. متغيرات دولية وإقليمية بدأت تحدث لكن ّ اآلن مع توقيع الدول الكبرى اتفاقًا مع إيران ملفها النووي وبدء رفع العقوبات بشأن ّ زمن طويل .فهذا األمر منذ عليها المفروضة ٍ أزمات أهمية كبيرة اآلن في معالجة ٍ له ّ
المصري القادم بالمنطقة نتيجة العالقات الجيدة حاليًا بين القاهرة والرياض.
وهناك ارتفاع دولي مشترك لمنسوب مما يحدث على األرض المخاوف من ٍ تفاعالت ّ السورية ،إن كان لجهة زيادة دور وعدد المتطرفة ،والمحسوبة الجماعات الدينية ّ اسميًا على «جماعات القاعدة» ،أو أيضًا لمحاذير امتداد الصراعات المسلّحة إلى دول مجاورة لسوريا. فخيار التسويات السياسية ،وليس المزيد من التصعيد العسكري ،هو المرغوب حاليًا من قبل األقطاب الدولية ،ح ّتى لو كانت هناك عقبات مستويات أو «معارضات» لهذه التسويات على ٍ محلية وإقليمية .لكن هذه التسويات الدولية ألزمات في المنطقة ومحيطها هي الممكنة ٍ لحل مراهنات عربية جديدة على «الخارج» ّ ٌ أزمات مشكلتها األساس هي ضعف «الداخل» ٍ حل يرجوه العرب لصالحهم فأي ٍّ وتشرذمهُّ . إذا سارت التفاهمات الدولية واإلقليمية تبعًا فكل لمصالح هذه األطراف غير العربية؟! ّ معني بصراعات المنطقة سيحاول طرف ٍ ٌّ تحسين وضعه التفاوضي على «األرض» قبل وضع الصيغ النهائية للتسويات ،بينما العرب منشغلون ح ّتى اآلن في أوضاعهم الداخلية، ومنقسمون ومتصارعون حول قضايا عربية وإقليمية ودولية!. رات إيجابية محتملة ومهما حدث من تطو ٍ ّ فإن السؤال على الصعيدين الدولي واإلقليميّ ، ٌ مستقبل أفضل يبقى :كيف سيكون هناك ولألمة ككل ،إذا كان للشعوب واألوطان، ّ ُفرق وال تجمع!؟. ت بأمور العرب مسته َلكين ٍ ّ

لندن -كشفت جمعية القلب البريطانية أن تناول رقائق البطاطا المجففة المضاف إليها مواد حافظة وزيوت وسكريات من االسباب المؤدية الى االصابة بالسرطان بكافة انواعه. ويحتوي الشيبس على نسبة كبيرة من مادة األكريالميد الكيميائية السامة التي تضر القلب والدماغ على حد السواء. وتعمل شركات تصنيع الشيبس على طرح منتجات تحفز الشخص على إدمان تناولها بعدة طرق منها وجود مستويات عالية من النشويات والكربوهيدرات المكررة في الشيبس التي يمكن أن تغير مستويات الغلوكوز واألنسولين في الدم مما يؤدي لزيادة الجوع والرغبة بتناول كميات اضافية منها. وكانت دراسة سابقة افادت ان تناول الشيبس بكثرة يصيب االم بالسمنة المفرطة ويضر باألجنة مثل ضرر تدخين األم وذلك لوجود مادة األكريالميد الكيميائية السامة ،إذ أنه المسؤول األول على اضطرابات الحركة ونقص باالنتباه. وقال باحثون االثنين ان بامكان الحكومات االبطاء من التفشي المتزايد للبدانة او وقفه اذا طبقت مزيدا من االجراءات في السوق العالمية للمأكوالت السريعة مثل البرغر ورقائق البطاطس والمشروبات الغازية. واشارت دراسة نشرت في نشرة منظمة الصحة العالمية الى انه اذا اتخذت الحكومة اجراء اكثر حزما فبامكانها البدء في الحيلولة دون ان يصاب الناس بالوزن المفرط او البدانة وهي حاالت لها عواقب خطيرة على المدى البعيد مثل االصابة بالسكري وامراض القلب والسرطان. وقال روبرتو دي فوغلي من جامعة كاليفورنيا بدافيس بالواليات المتحدة والذي رأس هذه الدراسة «اذا لم تتخذ الحكومات خطوات لتنظيم اقتصادياتها ستواصل اليد الخفية للسوق تشجيع
البدانة في شتى انحاء العالم بعواقبها المفجعة على صحة الناس وعلى القدرة على االنتاج االقتصادي في المستقبل». وتحث منظمة الصحة العالمية الحكومات على بذل المزيد في محاولة لمنع حدوث البدانة في المقام االول بدال من المخاطرة بالتكلفة البشرية واالقتصادية المرتفعة لدى حدوثها. وتتضمن السياسات المقترحة توفير حوافز اقتصادية للمزارعين كي يبيعوا اغذية صحية وطازجة وعدم تقديم حوافز للصناعات لبيع اغذية مصنعة على نحو مفرط ومشروبات غازية وخفض الدعم للمزارعين والشركات التي تستخدم كميات كبيرة من االسمدة والمبيدات والكيماويات والمضادات الحيوية وتشديد االجراءات بالنسبة العالنات المأكوالت السريعة والسيما لالطفال. وكشفت دراسة قديمة أن تناول السكر يحدث جهداً كبيراً في البروتينات الموجودة في عضلة القلب ما يؤدي إلى توقفه عن العمل. فقد أجرى باحثون من جامعة اميركية دراسة توصلوا من خاللها إلى أن تناول ذرة سكر واحدة تجهد القلب وتحدث تغيرات في البروتينان الموجودة فيه ما يتسبب بضعف ضخ الدم وبالتالي توقف القلب عن العمل. واشار المعد الرئيسي للدراسة أنه عندما تكون عضلة القلب ضعيفة أساسًا بسبب ارتفاع ضغط الدم وأية أمراض أخرى ،فإن تناول الغلوكوز يزيد األمور تعقيداً .مشيرا إلى كل حبة سكر التسبب بتوقف تتناول في هذه الحال قادرة على ّ القلب نهائيًا عن العمل. ويؤدي االفراط في تناول السكريات عند الكبار الى السمنة وارتفاع ضغط الدم وامراض القلب والسكري.

وتشمل المادة التي طلبها التحقيق "خالصات ومقتبسات" من 25مذكرة من بلير إلى بوش وأكثر من 130تسجيال لمحادثات .وقالت اللجنة إن التحقيق ال يسعى الستخدام المادة التي تعكس آراء بوش. ومع اقتراب بريطانيا من انتخابات وطنية في مايو أيار 2015يخوضها حزب المحافظين بزعامة رئيس الوزراء ديفيد كاميرون وحزب العمال المعارض الذي كان يقوده بلير في وقت ما ،فإن توقيت نشر التقرير يكتسب أهمية سياسية متزايدة. ومع توقع أن ينتقد التقرير بلير وبالتالي يلوث الحزب الذي قاده لثالثة انتصارات انتخابية بالتبعية فإن بعض مؤيدي حزب العمال يشعرون بعدم ارتياح بشأن احتمال نشره قبل االنتخابات. واستمعت لجنة التحقيق إلى مسؤولين كبار منهم بلير الذي تحدث أمامها مرتين باإلضافة إلى دبلوماسيين وقادة عسكريين سابقين. وحين يعد التحقيق تقريره فسينصب كثير من التركيز على ما خلص إليه بشأن قرار بلير إرسال 45ألف جندي بريطاني للمشاركة في الغزو وعلى مدى شرعية حرب قتل فيها 179جنديا بريطانيا. وجادل منتقدون لوقت طويل بأن بلير ضلل عمدا العامة بشأن السبب الذي أعلنه للحرب وهو أسلحة الدمار الشامل للرئيس العراقي السابق صدام حسين والتي لم يعثر عليها مطلقا.

زيادة الكولسترول في الدم تقيد االنجاب واشنطن -افادت دراسة أميركية جديدة أن ارتفاع مستويات الكولسترول في دم الرجل والمرأة يرتبط بتأخر الحمل. والدراسة التي دامت لمدة سنة كاملة وتعد األولى من نوعها في النظر لمستويات الكولسترول في دم كل من الزوجين ،شملت 501من األزواج األميركيين من والية تكساس ،وقام بها فريق بحثي من معهد كيندي شرايفر للصحة والتنمية البشرية. ويقول الباحث أنريكي شيسترمان األستاذ بالمعهد ،إن الكولسترول الحر أحد أنواع دهون الدم ،وهو ليس من أنواع الكولسترول التي يتم قياسها بشكل روتيني في عيادات األطباء ،ولكنه نوع خاص يتم قياسه ألغراض بحثية. ويضيف شيسترمان أن أحد أهم نتائج الدراسة ،أنها توصلت إلى أن الكوليسترول في الدم ،يمكن أن يعيق اإلنجاب عند األزواج. كما أشار البحث أن تغيير نمط الحياة يساعد كثيرا على خفض مستويات الكولسترول وذلك بممارسة الرياضة، وتنظيم الغذاء واالبتعاد عن األغذية الدهنية والوجبات السريعة ،كما اوصى الباحثون بضرورة تناول األطعمة الطازجة بصورة مستمرة. وتوصلت دراسة أميركية سابقة إلى أن تناول التوت بكثرة قد يساعد في زيادة الخصوبة عند الرجال ،وهو أمر عزته إلى احتواء التوت على مستويات مرتفعة من فيتامين «ج» وعنصر المغنيسيوم. وكانت نتائج اولية لدراسات طبية
التي أجريت بجامعة اميركية أظهرت أن عصير التوت البري «كرانبيري» يعيق نمو البكتيريا المسببة النتانات األذن وااللتهابات التنفسية الشائعة عند األطفال. وأشار تقرير علمي سابق إلى أن التوت البري أو التوت األسود يساعد في خفض معدالت اإلصابة بسرعة القذف ،ويزيد قوة االنتصاب عند الرجال ،عالوة على زيادة الشعور بالمتعة للرجال والنساء خالل العملية الجنسية على حد سواء. ووجد باحثون في مختبر لورنس بركلي الوطني األميركي أن تناول التوت الذي يحتوي على مستويات عالية من فيتامين «ج» الضروري للخصوبة عند الرجال وعلى المغينسيوم الضروري إلنتاج هرمون التستوستيرون ،يزيد فرص اإلنجاب. كما تبين أيضا أن التوت يحمي الحيوانات المنوية من إجهاد األكسدة الذي يؤدي إلى إتالف الحمض النووي فيها. وقالت الباحثة غولييت ويلسون إن التوت يعطي المغذيات الضرورية المعروفة بتحسين الخصوبة عند الرجال والنساء. ولفتت إلى أن تناول حصة غذائية واحدة من التوت تعطي الكمية نفسها من فيتامين «ج» التي يوفرها تناول 173حبة عنب ،مشيرة إلى أن لهذه الفاكهة منافع صحية كثيرة تجعلها األمثل بالنسبة لألزواج الذين يريدون اإلنجاب. ويؤدي االفراط في تناول السكريات عند الكبار الى السمنة وارتفاع ضغط الدم وامراض القلب والسكري.

بيروت تق ّر بتشديد إجراءات دخول فلسطينيي سوريا بيروت -شدد لبنان إجراءاته المتعلقة بدخول الالجئين الفلسطينيين الهاربين من النزاع السوري ،عبر سلسلة تدابير جديدة ابرزها حصولهم على تأشيرة دخول مسبقة وعدم تجديد تأشيرات الموجودين، بحسب ما اعلن وزير الداخلية نهاد المشنوق الخميس. وقالت االمم المتحدة ومنظمات حقوقية خالل اليومين الماضيين ان السلطات اللبنانية منعت دخول الالجئين الفلسطينيين من سوريا ،وقامت بإعادة نحو 40منهم اثر محاولتهم مغادرة مطار بيروت. وقال المشنوق "تفاديا لتكرار مثل هذه الحوادث التي تؤثر على الوضع االمني في لبنان وعلى عالقة لبنان مع دول عربية عدة ،تم وضع معايير تنظم عملية دخول الفلسطينيين الالجئين في سوريا إلى لبنان" ،وذلك في تصريح نشر على صفحته الرسمية على موقع "فيسبوك". وبموجب هذه اإلجراءات ،لن يسمح بدخول سوى من يحمل "سمة دخول مسبقة مبنية على موافقة المديرية العامة لالمن العام (التي تتولى ادارة المعابر الحدودية) او على بطاقة اقامة ( )...او سمة خروج وعودة عدة سفرات ولحين انتهاء صالحيتها" ،على ان يقدم الطلب في السفارة اللبنانية في دمشق. كما تم "وقف منح التأشيرة التلقائية للفلسطينيين الالجئين على الحدود ،حتى لو كان بحوزتهم اذن عودة" ،اضافة الى "عدم تمديد التأشيرة التلقائية الممنوحة
والممددة سابقا". وكان الالجئون الفلسطينيون القادمون من

يتوعد البشير بـ'العصيان المدني' حزب األمة ّ الخرطوم ـ قالت األمين العام لحزب االمة السوداني سارة نقداهلل إن سيلقن النظام درسا ،وذلك ر ّدا على اعتقال زعيمه الصادق حزبها ّ المهدي ووضعه رهن اإليقاف. وأكدت نقداهلل أن أنصار الحزب سيلجؤون إلى االعتصام العام في كل أرجاء السودان في حال فشلت المناشدات الداخلية والخارجية وتحركات الحزب السلمية ،في إطالق سراح المهدي وإسقاط التهم التي وصفتها بالسياسية ،عنه. وأقدم ضباط من جهاز األمن والمخابرات الوطنية بتوقيف المهدي ليل السبت الماضي في منزله بتهمة الخيانة بحسب ما أفاد مسؤولون حزب االمة الذي يتزعمه. وقالت األمين العام للحزب ساره نقد اهلل ان المهدي خضع لالستجواب االحد في سجن يستمر كوبر في منطقة الخرطوم أين ّ إيقافه. وجاء توقيف المهدي بسبب اتهامه لقوة الدعم السريع شبه العسكرية المكلفة بمكافحة التمرد المعروفة بـ»الجنجويد»، بارتكاب عمليات اغتصاب وعنف بحق مدنيين في دارفور (غرب) ،االقليم الذي يشهد تصاعدا في العنف منذ بداية العام .2014 ودعت قوات الدعم السريع السودانية األربعاء زعيم حزب األمة القومي المعارض ،الصادق المهدي وآخرين إلى االعتذار عن االتهامات التي وجهوها إليها بارتكاب انتهاكات في إقليم دارفور وكردفان ،فضال عن اتهامها بضم أجانب في صفوفها. وطالب قائد قوات الدعم السريع ،عبد العزيز عباس ،من سماهم بـ»المنزلقين خلف نظم لقواته الدعوى الكاذبة باالعتذار» ،وذلك خالل استعراض ّ التي ينتظر نشرها في عدد من المناطق في الخرطوم لتأمينها ضد احتجاجات قد تندلع في اية لحظة. وواجه النظام السوداني في سبتمبر/ايلول 2013احتجاجات عارمة
شهدتها أنحاء متفرقة من السودان بعد رفع الحكومة الدعم عن المحروقات ،وهو ما اسفر عن سقوط عشرات القتلى والجرحى في صفوف المحتجين الذين خرجوا للشوارع رافعين شعارات تنادي بإسقاط النظام أسوة بما حصل في أكثر من بلدان الربيع العربي طيلة السنوات الثالث الماضية.
وأضاف «أرجو أن يعتذروا لقوات الدعم السريع ولكل الشعب السوداني وأن يتوبوا إلى اهلل». وأعلن حزب األمة القومي السوداني االربعاء أن السلطات رفضت طلبا لرئيس اآللية األفريقية ثامبو أمبيكي ،للقاء المهدي في
محبسه في سجن كوبر. وكان أمبيكي زار السودان للمساعدة في التهيئة لحوار وطني بين األطراف السودانية .وعقد لهذه الغاية لقاءات مع شخصيات حزبية سودانية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني. وأعلن الحزب عن خطة سلمية للضغط على الحكومة لإلفراج عن المهدي ،بعد خمسة أيام من اعتقاله. ونقلت صحف سودانية نقال عن القيادية في حزب األمة مريم الصادق المهدي قولها إن «قيادة الحزب اجتمعت االربعاء بقيادات القوى السياسية المعارضة ،التي قبلت بالمشاركة في الحوار». كل األحزاب رفضت أن المهدي مريم وأفادت ّ توقيف الصادق المهدي واستمرار حبسه، مؤكدة أن استمرار االعتقال أفسد أجواء الحوار وأفرغه من محتواه وربما يؤدى النهياره. ودعا حزب «األمة» قواعده ومناصريه إلى االحتشاد في مسجد «ودنوباي» ،الذي انطلقت منه تظاهرات سبتمبر/أيلول 2013التي دعت إلى اسقاط نظام الرئيس البشير. في االثناء ،تعتزم األحزاب السودانية المشاركة في الحوار الوطني ،الدعوة الجتماع مع مع الرئيس السوداني عمر حسن البشير ،في محاولة للتوسط لديه من أجل أن يأمر بإطالق سراح الصادق المهدي. كما طالبت هيئة الدفاع عن المهدي إطالق سراحه على الفور الكتمال التحقيقات معه، مؤكدة اكتمال التحريات معه منذ يوم السبت. وقالت الهيئة إن االتهامات المنسوبة إليه قد تصل العقوبة فيها إلى اإلعدام والسجن المؤبد ،أو السجن لمدد تتراوح بين شهور وأعوام، ومصادرة أمواله.

استقبال البطريرك الماروني للبابا في القدس يشعل صراعا جديدا في لبنان
بكركي (لبنان) -للمرة االولى منذ نشوء دولة اسرائيل يقصد بطريرك الطائفة المارونية اللبناني االراضي المقدسة بالتزامن مع زيارة البابا فرنسيس ،في خطوة شديدة الحساسية بالنسبة لبلد في حالة حرب رسميا مع اسرائيل، اثارت امتعاض حزب اهلل العدو اللدود للدولة العبرية. وتحدثت وسائل اعالم قريبة من الحزب عن «تطبيع» مع اسرائيل ،واصفة الزيارة بـ»الخطيئة التاريخية» ما دفع البطريرك بشارة الراعي الى الرد بحزم مشددا على انه ال يذهب الى اسرائيل بل الى االراضي المقدسة لتفقد «شعبه» ورعيته. وسيتخلل الزيارة لقاء بين الراعي ومجموعة من اللبنانيين غادروا البالد بعد االنسحاب االسرائيلي العام ،2000 خشية تعرضهم للمالحقة او لعمليات ثأرية بسبب «تعاملهم مع اسرائيل» ابان احتالل جيشها ألجزاء من جنوب لبنان منذ العام .1982ويرجح ان يثير هذا اللقاء انتقادات جديدة. وكلف حزب اهلل االسبوع الماضي وفدا منه بزيارة البطريرك وإبالغه ان الزيارة ستكون لها «تداعيات سلبية»، من دون ان ينجح في تغيير رأيه. وقال النائب البطريركي العام المطران بولس الصياح أن «هذه الزيارة لها هدف رعوي ديني فقط ال غير .البابا يأتي الى منطقة في عهدة البطريرك، ومن الطبيعي ان يكون البطريرك في استقبال هذا الضيف الكبير اآلتي الى الشرق». ولن يكون الراعي في عداد الوفد الرسمي الذي سيرافق البابا خالل زيارته الى االردن وإسرائيل

االرض المقدسة ،بينما نشوء اسرائيل يعود الى .»1948 وكان الراعي اعلن بعد االنتقادات التي نشرتها خصوصا صحيفتا «السفير» و»االخبار» ان لبنان «في موقع عداوة مع اسرائيل وأنا لست ذاهبا الى اسرائيل .انا ذاهب الى القدس ألقول هذه مدينتنا نحن المسيحيين قبل كل الناس، والقدس عربية ولدي صالحية عليها». ويقول الكاتب انطوان سعد ،واضع سيرة البطريرك السابق نصر اهلل صفير ،ان زيارة الراعي الى االراضي المقدسة من شأنها ان «تسلط الضوء على المسيحيين فيها وتشعرهم بأنهم ليسوا متروكين» ،مضيفا انها قد تكون عامال ايجابيا لوقف التراجع الديموغرافي. ويضيف ان اسرائيل تعمل «جاهدة مع المنظمات اليهودية على شراء االرض التي يملكها الفلسطينيون ومن بينهم المسيحيون ولو بأغلى االثمان ،في وقت يعاني هؤالء من البطالة وشتى انواع المضايقات واإلغراءات لترك ارضهم .البطريرك سيقول لهم انه الى جانبهم ويجب أال يخشوا الضغوط االسرائيلية». غير ان هذه الحجج ال تقنع منتقدي الزيارة. ويقول نائب رئيس تحرير «السفير» نصري الصايغ «امتنع سادة البطريركية عن مثل هذه الزيارة منذ نشوء الكيان االسرائيلي ( )...هذه بداية تطبيع» .ويتخوف من ارساء «عرف جديد يقوم على ان يتخطى رجال الدين قوانين البالد ودستورها وقيمها لكي يذهبوا الى ارض تحت االحتالل». ويبلغ عدد المسيحيين في االراضي الفلسطينية وإسرائيل حوالى 145الفا .اما عدد الموارنة فاثنا عشر الفا مع موارنة االردن. ويدعو الصايغ الى ترجمة دعم المسيحيين باألفعال بدال من «الصيغ الكالمية التي ال مدلول لها» و»الحجج المفبركة» ،معتبرا ان الكنيسة «قوة معنوية كبيرة» بإمكانها الضغط على االسرائيليين «ليوقفوا االستيطان ويمتثلوا للقرارات الدولية». ويرى الصايغ ان «عالمات االستفهام والشكوك الكبرى» تكمن في اللقاء الذي سيتم بين الراعي واللبنانيين المقيمين في اسرائيل ،مشددا على ان «عالج هذا الموضوع ليس هناك ،بل هو عند الدولة اللبنانية». وفر أالف اللبنانيين الذين كانوا في عداد ما عرف خالل الثمانينات والتسعينات بـ»جيش لبنان الجنوبي» الذي تعامل مع اسرائيل وحارب الى جانبها في جنوب لبنان ،الى الدولة العبرية بعد انسحاب جيشها. وعاد قسم منهم الحقا على مراحل ،فخضعوا لمحاكمات سريعة وصدرت بحقهم احكام مخففة بموجب اتفاق سياسي غير معلن لحل مشكلتهم. إال ان اكثر من ألفين و 500لبناني ال يزالون في اسرائيل ،غالبيتهم من المسيحيين. ويرى المطران الصياح انه «من الطبيعي ان يلتقيهم البطريرك» ،مضيفا «هؤالء ظلموا وأرغموا على ما هم عليه» .وعلى الرغم من الرفض القاطع للكنيسة المارونية حتى خالل سنوات الحرب ألي عالقة مع اسرائيل ،إال انها تعتبر ان ظروف الحرب ووجود الجنوبيين بحكم االمر الواقع على الحدود االسرائيلية من جهة ،وتعرضهم لتجاوزات المنظمات الفلسطينية منذ بداية السبعينات من جهة اخرى ،اضطرتهم للتعامل مع الدولة العبرية. في الوسط المسيحي ،غالبية المواطنين العاديين متحمسون لزيارة البطريرك ،والسياسيون ابدوا دعمهم. ويقول فادي ابي اللمع ( 32عاما ،موظف) ان «زيارة البطريرك ستؤكد هوية االراضي المقدسة المسيحية ،وال يحق ألحد ان يمنعه» .ويضيف «كمسيحي ،انا احلم باليوم الذي ازور فيه االرض التي ولد وعاش ومات فيها المسيح».

اإلذن بكشف 'أرشيف' بلير يفتح باب نشر تحقيق بريطاني في
حرب العراق
اتخذت نتائج تحقيق بريطاني في جرائم الحرب في العراق والتي طال تأخرها خطوة نحو النشر الخميس بعد التوصل التفاق بشأن كيفية استخدام المذكرات وتسجيالت المكالمات الهاتفية بين رئيس الوزراء حينئذ توني بلير والرئيس األميركي جورج بوش االبن. وبدأ التحقيق المعروف باسم تحقيق تشيلكوت عام 2009بناء على تكليف من رئيس الوزراء السابق جوردون براون لتعلم الدروس من الغزو الذي قادته الواليات المتحدة عام 2003للعراق واألحداث التي أعقبته. وكانت لجنة التحقيق تأمل في تقديم نتائج بحلول نهاية 2011أو في أوائل .2012لكن بعد خمس سنوات من بدئه لم يقدم التحقيق تقريرا بعد بسبب مشاكل تتعلق باإلفراج عن وثائق سرية. وأعلنت لجنة التحقيق يوم الخميس عن التوصل التفاق مع الحكومة البريطانية بشأن الكشف عن االتصاالت بين بلير وبوش والتي أشير إليها سابقا كواحدة من أكبر العقبات أمام نشر
تقرير التحقيق. ويتركز اهتمام التحقيق باتصاالتهما على معرفة إلى أي مدى كان بلير يقدم دعما مفتوحا لبوش وللحرب. ونفى بلير مرارا عرقلته لنشر االتصاالت وقال إنه متمسك بمواقفه. وقالت لجنة التحقيق في بيان "تم التوصل لالتفاق على المبادئ التي ستعزز الكشف عن المادة من المناقشات واالتصاالت على مستوى الحكومة بين رئيس الوزراء البريطاني ورئيس الواليات المتحدة". وأضافت "بدأ اآلن الفحص المفصل للمادة التي طلبها التحقيق من االتصاالت بين رئيس الوزراء ورئيس الواليات المتحدة .لم يتضح بعد المدة التي سيستغرقها ذلك". التتمة ص 5
