The whisper of the sea permeates every detail of this styled shoot, which takes us from Camel Studio, a tranquil oasis nestled in the Camel Valley, to the windswept drama of north Cornwall’s coastline. The blank canvas interiors of Camel Studio lend themselves to the muted hues and contemporary styling of the shoot. Soft textures and shades of pearly white, cream and taupe create a dreamy yet distinctly modern aesthetic, which carries from the floral arrangements and stationery embellished with coral to the elegant white cake adorned with shell-like fragments and pearls. Creamy linens scattered with coral and shells add dimension to the tablescape, the ripples of fabric reminiscent of the waves, while gold cutlery and candlesticks adds a luxe accent. As far as W-day decisions go, this can be one of the trickiest. You may have known years ago who your trusted bridal party members will be; or perhaps you’re agonising over who to pop the question to. Either way, the matter of who – and how – to choose as your ’maids remains one of the biggest bridal quandaries of all. Even if you feel self-assured in your choosing, you’ll no doubt have at least a few nagging doubts. Will I inadvertently cause offence to someone? What if they say no? Tackling the various potential – and very real – issues head-on will pay dividends in your wedding planning and pre-wedded wellbeing – and should help reinforce all the cherished relationships in your life. If you’re deliriously engaged to ‘the one’ but in the throes of deliberating popping the question to your ‘other ones’, then allow us to come to your rescue with our mini bridesmaid guide, which delves into everything from who to choose to what role they should play and how to pop the question.

Who? Only you can answer this question. And it can be fraught with complication. In an ideal world, it would simply be a case of selecting your most favourite and entrusted friends, but in reality – there can be more to it than that. Before you make any knee-jerk decisions that can prove difficult to backtrack on, there are a series of considerations to ponder before whittling down your list. First off, will your best friend be up to the task and keen to waltz down the aisle/plan your hen party/pay for the extra expenses associated with the role/have the extra time to help you prepare for the big day, as well on the day itself?

Weddings can incur financial and time burdens on bridesmaids, from attending dress fittings and weekends away to chipping in or paying entirely for parties, outfits, shoes, accessories and accommodation. Will their job and financial situation free up the time and cash for this (unless you’re exclusively footing the bill)? Do they have children or other dependants and so might struggle to commit the required time, energy and money to their role as bridesmaid? Before formally asking, you could dedicate a conversation with them to tease out these concerns and establish an arrangement that you’ll both be content with. For example, she could bring her toddler as a flower girl to combine the role with on-the-day childcare issues or you could pay for the dresses and ensure that all hen celebrations are organised within participants’ individual budgets. By arming yourself with as much information as possible regarding your own input and expectations – as well as theirs – you’ll be able to negotiate and agree upon an action plan, and preserve the love, confidence and closeness of your friendship in the

process. Family politics (for better or worse) do tend to play another part here. For example, does your spouse-to-be have any significant family members such as a sister or niece that they/you/their family would like included in the bridal group? This is when it becomes more of a joint decision and can feel as if your hand is being forced – especially if the in-laws or wider family have offered to pitch in with financial help. If you really don’t want to choose a particular person as your bridesmaid, then don’t. Whether you believe there will be a personality clash (group dynamics are another issue to chew over), lack of input or you simply don’t get along well, it’s best to voice your concerns from the outset rather than

A love story played out across the charm-filled spaces of Polstrong Manor, this styled shoot draws on the distinctive mood and aesthetic of film director Wes Anderson’s work to create a wedding scene replete with personality. Fusing an eye-catching palette with a heady sense of nostalgia, the fashions and details were carefully selected by photographer Rebecca Hook. “Many items were sourced through a small collection of vintage pieces that I have built up over time, from the little touches such as the vintage Max Factor lipstick to Anchor Hocking crockery and paperback books,” she reveals. These details set the eclectic yet carefully curated scene, which plays with both composition and colour. “Every element had a lot of thought and time put in, but I wanted it to feel effortless and thrown together. Wes Anderson uses clever positioning to tell the story and draw people in,” explains Rebecca. A symmetrical tablescape includes gingham linens, ornate candelabras and vintage crockery, with the florals, accessories and adorable cake – adorned with buttercream and glacé cherries – encapsulating the fun and colourful aesthetic. Vignettes range from a coffee table with a mini floral centrepiece and candle jars to a Polaroid camera atop vintage leather-bound books. Meanwhile, the bride dons a variety of retro-chic looks including a cream embroidered shift dress with a velvet ruffled Alice band, a rose pink A-line with semi-sheer sleeves and a baby blue satin mini dress with a mini veil and cat-eye sunglasses – all purchased secondhand for under £30 each for a sustainable look. Located in the heart of the seaside town, Host St Ives provides the striking backdrop to this styled shoot, which takes the original features of the Victorian bank-turnedbrasserie bar, together with red brick and warm leather accents, as the base layer for its colour luxe editorial. “The inspiration for the styling came naturally from the vibe of the venue,” explains stylist Natalie Blake of the distinctive aesthetic. “The colour palette chosen teamed perfectly with the stylish décor.” Bare granite walls, leather couches, dark wooden bar chairs and toffee-coloured wooden floors create a warm and welcoming space that’s flooded with natural light. An air of old-school gentleman’s club with revamped modern edge comes courtesy of large colourful canvases, ornate hanging mirrors, industrial blue metal lampshades, colourful velvet cushions and floor-toceiling glass doors. Mango wood charger plates styled with simple stationery and linen napkins lend a natural and pared-back look, which contrasts and complements the burnt orange runner dotted with textured glass tumblers, vases and single stem florals – a small posy of flowers the understated centrepiece. From the photography and dress code to the flowers and food – pared-back or maximalist – the choice is entirely yours. “Styling can be very tailored to both of you as a couple, so do still consider flowers and the nice little touches,” says Rebecca. “In terms of suppliers, try to meet them before the day itself as they will become your support network and they’ll have your best interests at heart.” Create a series of special dining or entertainment events, such as a romantic drinks reception with a harpist or an evening supper at a nearby jazz club. “Catering can be super fun to organise, from grazing picnics on a beach or clifftop to a seven-course tasting menu by a highly rated chef,” says Rebecca. “It’s also lovely to consider the whole day: breakfast on the beach, lunch at a Michelin-starred restaurant and the golden arches for that fun evening soaker snack. One of our clients was a sailor, so for their evening meal they had a three-course meal on the beautiful Blue River Table, a 36ft traditional Cornish fishing boat.” Sophie relishes the styling aspect of elopements. “You can go all-out

because you genuinely don’t have ‘what will they think?’ in the back of your head,” she says. “If you want a Moroccan vibe and to sit on the floor, you can – you don’t have to worry about your great-aunt getting up! Your aisle can be completely unique, as you don’t need to worry about chairs for guests, and stunning backdrops and unique florals are also a must.” With elopements also comes the opportunity to create a beautiful ceremony. “You can share words without the embarrassment or judgement of anyone else listening, and if you want that outside ceremony and it’s pouring down, does it really matter?” she continues. “You’re the only ones that have to worry about it. It’s an amazing way of exploring where you’re eloping and taking time out as a couple.” She also suggests hosting an after-party to celebrate with friends and family in the knowledge that you’ve achieved your dream wedding in advance, exactly how you always wanted it. “If you want a party when you get home, then do so, but at least your ceremony and your marriage are yours to share as a pair.” “Have a reveal party planned when you get home, to celebrate with friends and family, show them the images and share your experience” agrees Rebecca. “It can be great to have had your own day on your own terms, but it’s lovely to be able to share it too. And make sure you tell the nearest and dearest before anyone else. In my experience, most people are happy for you, but parents and best friends will want to hear it from you directly rather than social media.” Simply put, make your plans, share your plans (if you want to!) – and then enact your plans to suit yourselves for an elopement planned and executed with the greatest of ease, love and joy.

The popularity of petite and personal celebrations shows no sign of waning – and where lovelier to take your vows than in a tucked-away corner of Cornwall, where clifftops and seascapes meet countryside panoramas and subtropical gardens? Here, three couples share the stories of their elopement weddings…

Katie and Daniel married on the clifftops of Cornwall’s south coast at Beacon Crag What made you choose an elopement? “It was a bit of a journey of self-reflection and distilling what we really wanted from the experience,” explains Daniel. “We both agreed that we didn’t want it to be too big or extravagant – that’s just not us. What we wanted at the core was an intimate and close personal experience, and eloping was the perfect way to make that happen. It also made sense practically as I am from Canada and Katie is from the UK so it would be more difficult to make it all work logistically.

“It couldn’t have been a more perfect day in a perfect place!”

Of course, we missed having close friends and the larger family, but we plan on celebrating with them at a later date, so we get to have more parties which is a plus too!” What drew you to Beacon Crag? “Katie grew up in Cornwall and we both share a love of the ocean so we knew right away that somewhere in Cornwall, with its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches, would be a perfect setting for our special day. From the time we started planning to the wedding day was less than eight weeks so locking down a venue was top priority! We wanted to get married as close to the sea as possible. When we stumbled on Beacon Crag, we fell in love with it right away. It’s literally just off the coastal path and you can see the ocean from almost every window! I loved that it felt like our own secluded pocket of heaven but was still walking distance to Porthleven. It was nice to be able to walk into town for dinner and drink celebrations after the wedding (and stumble back!) – which happens to be traditional for a Portuguese wedding (and special because I’m Portuguese). We spent three days there and it was lush; we went for coastal walks, watched the most amazing sunsets and just felt super peaceful. We were also lucky to enjoy perfect sunny days.” How did the day pan out? “It was like a dream. We woke up super early – pulling back the curtain to see pure lush ocean was a view and feeling I will never forget. Katie and I decided to seize the day and stroll down to Porthleven harbour and jump in for a fresh morning swim. It was so cold and so nice – the light was amazing and it was such a beautiful setting. We then had a warm coffee on a bench overlooking the sea. After breakfast outside, we started the wedding preparations before the special ceremony, which was on a flat terrace area on a cliff overlooking the sea. It was relaxed, chilled and very romantic. We couldn’t have picked a better setting and day. After the ceremony, which we also broadcasted live for larger family and friends to see, we enjoyed some fizz and snacks before heading to a local beach with our photographer Tom. He captured the intimate moments, joyful moments and some crazy fun moments too – Katie and I took some skateboarding photos and I even did a backflip over her on the beach! We strolled into town and had dinner and drinks before enjoying some live music at a local pub. It couldn’t have been a more perfect day in a perfect place!” What stood out for you? “Being surrounded by the ocean on a clifftop never got old; the view and serenity of the Porthleven area is gold.” What are your words of advice for couples considering an elopement? “Focus about what is important for you. Work with local businesses – they know the area best and will unlock hidden magic you couldn’t get on your own. Be flexible and open – trusting our celebrant, make-up artist, florist and photographer to do what they do meant we got the best outcome with less stress. Lastly, enjoy every moment, even the tiny ones. Anastasia and Edoardo tied the knot in the subtropical climes of Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens What made you choose an elopement? “The idea of a traditional wedding did not fit us,” says Edoardo. “We wanted privacy and a moment for just the two of us.” What drew you to Fallen Angel and Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens? “Before we arrived, we had never visited Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens or Fallen Angel, where we stayed in Mousehole, so we just hoped the pictures on the website were exactly what we were looking for. The house and the gardens were incredible, everything went exactly how we wanted. I particularly do not like attention and I was worried too many people would be curious, but the gardens are private, so I didn’t even have that to worry about.” How did the day plan out? “We literally did not get into ‘wedding mode’ until a few hours prior to the ceremony. On the day of the wedding, we woke up at Fallen Angel and had a coffee, then the make-up artist came in to help Anastasia while I was just reading a newspaper. The feeling of a normal day was perfect and it was, at the same time, very intimate.” What stood out for you? “The wedding was incredible – we drove ourselves there and met with the registrar and photographer; everyone was very happy to meet us. On our way back we had a private lunch booked at Fallen Angel, which was truly unbelievable. It was not just a lunch, but a moment to share: a life experience with the local chef and my wife. Magic. In the evening we watched a movie and the next day was just like any other day! We went for a walk to explore Cornwall.” What are your words of advice for couples considering an elopement? “Make sure the day is about your love for each other. That moment was fantastic because it was not about anybody else; it was us and only us.”

Luise and Nina travelled with four close friends from Austria to celebrate their marriage at Treseren What made you choose an elopement? “We wanted to have a wedding in our own style, where every detail reflected us,” explains Luise. “To begin with, we wanted to get married alone but during the planning we realised that there were certain moments we wanted to share with our chosen family: our lovely girlfriends.” What drew you to Treseren? “We both knew we wanted to get married on or near a beach. We began searching for elopements and micro weddings in Europe and within 10 minutes we sent each other Treseren, so we knew it was destiny. We agreed that if the venue was free on our wish date of 15th June, we would love to get married there. We organised a call with Emma, who provided us with a virtual tour of the property and helped us envision our day. We fell in love during this first tour and seeing the property in real life had a totally new ‘wow effect’ for us.” How did the day pan out? “Nina and I woke early and went to the garden for two hours; it was the only time on our wedding day that we were totally alone. We talked about everything and nothing, and told each other what we were looking forward

to on the day and what we were afraid of. We laughed, we cried, we snuggled and most importantly we shared our last moments together before the preparations began. We then had breakfast with our friends, had our hair and make-up done and drank bubbly. After writing our vows and getting dressed, the ceremony took place in the garden followed by a chat with our families via Teams and FaceTime. Then Nina had a surprise for me: I always wanted to have a champagne tower, so she got one! After cutting the cake we had finger food followed by a trip to the beach – we had so much fun but if a wedding dress gets wet, it weighs a ton! Back at Treseren, we had dinner, played table tennis and changed into party dresses before heading back to the beach where our photographer surprised us with bottles of fizz to spray at sunset. We had so much fun! We spent the rest of the evening around the firepit, playing games and laughing a lot.” What stood out for you? “We broke with tradition when we chose to see each other before getting married - we wanted to share every emotion and memory together. We also asked our guests to wear black. In Austria you are usually not allowed to wear black at a wedding, but we saw a lot of videos with formal attire only and totally fell in love. The girls not only loved it because everybody could find a black dress in their own style, but they also could wear it again to another occasion. The most important part for us was that we didn’t feel any stress. We – as well as our guests and our suppliers – were relaxed, made jokes and all felt like a part of the tribe. It was a perfect day with amazing food, good music, a lot of laughter, making memories with people who know us at our best and worst moments in life, and a dip in the sea at sunset.” What are your words of advice for couples considering an elopement? “Don’t be afraid to ask your venue or suppliers for help. Tell them your vision and wishes and they will tell you if it is possible or not, and sometimes they can give you an even better idea. Someone Like You Cara and Kieran’s autumnal wedding was as rustic as it was beautifully personal Although Cara and Kieran attended the same school and Kieran confessed to having a crush on her, some years passed before Cara agreed to go on a date with him. “After a classically terrible dating history in my early twenties, I decided that I should give a kind and caring person who says nice things about me a chance – and it’s the best decision I ever made!” she says. Kieran proposed between the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020 in Bath’s Botanical Gardens and the couple soon booked The Cow Shed at Freathy Farmhouse as the venue for their autumnal wedding. “The venue was stunning: very natural, rustic and earthy,” says Cara. “It reminded me of a fairytale with rose bushes climbing up the wall of the house, ivy weaving its way through the barn and the owner Sarah’s trove of dainty china cups and vintage décor.” Choosing to tie in their colour scheme with the season, their wedding had a “dark and moody” vibe, with autumnal colours of “rust, oxblood and toffee with accents of peach”. The hues were carried vividly in the flowers, from the striking floral arch and bouquets to Cara’s crown. “To add a touch of personality and quirkiness, we included dinosaur details throughout, as Kieran’s obsessed with them,” she says. “We spray-painted toy dinosaurs gold to decorate the tables, and our guests took them away as favours. We also had dinosaur masks for spoof wedding photos and our guests used them in our DIY photo booth.” Their ceremony was dotted with poignant moments. “I had a rose quartz ring remade from one my mum, who’s no longer with us, gave me when I was 18,” she says. “My uncle walked me down the aisle to my mum’s favourite piece of classical music, Gabriel’s Oboe, which we also played at her funeral. I’d kept this detail a secret so it was a surprise for my family and it felt like she was still part of the day. Kieran was crying as I walked down the aisle, which made me cry.” After the ceremony, which included a raunchier-than-expected reading – “I sent our friend the wrong version by mistake! We thought he’d gone off-piste to add humour and he thought we’d stitched him up!” – the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed cider, street food and a semi-naked cake decorated in figs, thistles and dried oranges. “We wanted something informal to eat, so we had two food trucks: Southern fried chicken dirty fries with katsu curry sauce, and a hog roast,” says Cara. As dusk fell, the couple had a surprise in store with their first dance, which was choreographed to mimic one made up by Kieran to Eenie Meenie by Sean Kingston when he was at school! After a night of dancing and merriment, it was a just-for-two moment that led to the couple’s most treasured memory. “My favourite moment was mine and Kieran’s private dance after all our guests had gone to Van Morrison’s Someone Like You. We just swayed and basked in the success of the day,” Cara shares. “We also prepared private vows to read to each other at the end of the day as we were a bit shy about sharing our deeper feelings in front of an audience.” Cara’s advice is a balance between the emotional and the practical. “It’s so hard to plan an event that involves so many people but try to do what is right for you two,” she recommends. “Also, washing-up liquid gets katsu curry sauce out of a white wedding dress!”

On the Water’s Edge Pip and Chris celebrated their union with lakeside vows and woodland dancing at Cornish Tipi Weddings Having met while surfing in Morocco, it was fitting that Chris popped the question to Pip while they were having a sunset dip in the sea at Porthminster Beach in St Ives. “He had the ring precariously tied to a bit of string attached to his boardshorts!” laughs Pip. On searching for a venue, the couple soon fell for the natural beauty of Cornish Tipi Weddings, where their ceremony could take place within touching distance of the water. “It’s such a beautiful plot of woodland with a private lake and jetty, grassy space for games, a marquee for the reception, firepits and bell tents for guests to stay in,” explains Pip. The day had a relaxed, boho vibe, from the arrangements of wildflowers and bridesmaids in mismatched sage green frocks to Pip’s dreamy two-piece dress. A mixture of borrowed and handmade details added further personality, with friends and family pitching in on the eve of the wedding to decorate the venue proving a highlight of the weekend’s festivities. As the couple had legally wed a few days previously, Chris’ oldest friend Andy could officiate the ceremony, which took place on the lakeside jetty with their guests surrounding them beneath the trees. “He knows us both so well and this made it amazingly personal and such a special experience for us,” she reflects. The traditional Scottish Quaich ceremony – in honour of Chris’ heritage and which symbolises two clans coming together – included a ring-warming. “Our dads poured some whisky into a two-handled drinking bowl so we could share our first dram as a married couple,” she explains. “Chris had carved the Quaich himself from a piece of Scots pine he found in the Highlands the week we booked the wedding. We took turns exchanging vows, shared a kiss and the music started.” From there, the newlyweds and their guests went further into the woods for drinks and canapés, then to the marquee field. “It was one of my favourite moments walking from the woods to the marquee. Everyone was boogying together as we walked, then had games on the lawn to a chilled world music DJ set,” says Pip. “A really happy memory was sneaking back to the lakeside, grabbing a drink and having a quick row out on the little boat together, just the two of us.” The barbecue-style feast that followed included a mix of locally sourced meat and day-caught mackerel from nearby Port Isaac, veggie sausages and lots of tasty salads and sides before a “rather animated” Scottish ceilidh! As the evening progressed, DJ Joel of Jambada took over, as some guests danced and others chilled around the firepit, made s’mores and shared a whisky until the small hours. The couple had a novel idea when it came to creating moving memories. “We asked our guests to each capture a 30-second clip of a moment of their choice during the day. We’ve collected all of these in, to create a ‘crowd-sourced’ wedding video from these moments,” says Pip. When asked for top tips for other couples, their advice is to say yes to anyone who offers to help. “People were so happy to lend a hand, and we’re looking forward to paying it forward to the next happy couple in our lives,” says Pip.

Meant to Be Chloe and Devon filled their dreamy DIY wedding weekend at Kilminorth with their favourite things Having met while sharing a taxi ten years ago, travel-loving couple Chloe and Devon dated for eight years before Devon proposed during a trip to Iceland. “We snorkelled in -12C waters, snowmobiled over glaciers and watched the Northern Lights, but he couldn’t find the right time,” laughs Chloe. “He got down on one knee on our final night outside the Hallgrímskirkja church.” Their search for a venue started at Kilminorth and the couple immediately knew it was the place for their wedding weekend. “We wanted a DIY space where we could create a weekend of all the things we love and make us who we are,” explains Chloe. “We tried to personalise the whole weekend to all our favourite things.” The celebrations kicked off in fun-filled style on the Friday with guests enjoying fish and chips washed down with fizz as well as table tennis and a golf tournament. The next day, the couple’s al fresco ceremony took place in the scenic setting of the paddock, beginning with Chloe’s mum and dog Bernie (the ring bearer) walking her down the aisle to an acoustic version of The One by Kodaline. Sharing their hand-written vows as they exchanged rings engraved with each other’s fingerprints was Chloe’s favourite part of the day. “As we planned each detail of the wedding together, it was a lovely surprise to not know what we’d written to one another,” she says. Theming the day around “adventures we’d been on”, the décor was based on “the places that shaped us”, with a Japanese feel as a nod to Devon’s childhood in the country. “Banners behind our top table read ‘Koi no yokan’, which is a saying in Japanese that means a premonition of love… an ‘It’s meant to be’,” says Chloe. “We also handmade hundreds of paper cranes, which we hung between plants and lights above our tables.” Opting for sharing platters on each table, the bespoke menu contained “feel-good, tasty food that we had eaten across the world on our travels”, says Chloe. “We had pork belly, arancini, chicken satay, mini fish and chip cones, and beef in Yorkshire puddings, with world pizza for evening food.” Homemade lollipops with wildflowers made personalised place names, while the floral decorations were put together by Chloe and her family with flowers from her own garden. “I have rose bushes and plants in my garden that were my nan’s, and I loved that we could incorporate some of our favourite flowers into the day,” she says. Bringing the high-energy vibe to the dance floor, live band Tux Fizz kicked off the partying with the couple’s first dance, Drops of Jupiter by Train. A conga line of 100 people, dancing to Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody, was a fitting endnote and one of Chloe’s best memories of the day – but the fun wasn’t over yet! On Sunday, a barbecue saw everyone playing cricket, eating wedding cake and reminiscing about the day, then finishing with a silent disco until the early hours. After such a full and fun-packed wedding, what’s Chloe’s advice to others? “It all comes together – and if doesn’t, it won’t matter!” she says.

Bohemian Rhapsody Sophie and Omid’s wedding at Camel Studio embraced neutral shades and boho vibes Sophie and Omid first met through mutual friends while at university together, finally becoming a couple in Sophie’s final year. It was while glamping in Devon more than a decade later that Omid took the opportunity to pop the question. “I had a feeling it was going to happen as Omid is terrible at keeping secrets and we know each other so well!” says Sophie. “He had dressed our sausage dog Thor in a tux. Thor ran up to me with the ring clipped onto his suit jacket before Omid got down on one knee to one of our favourite songs by Leon Bridges. We both cried!” Nestled in a tranquil valley, Camel Studio was the romantic backdrop for their boho styled wedding, which had nods to rock ‘n’ roll throughout. Opting for a pared-back palette of creams, beiges and browns, Sophie’s bespoke vintage patchwork lace gown epitomised the look of their outdoor wedding. Her bridesmaids teamed their cream dresses with bouquets of dried blooms, while the groom’s party carried the palette and mood with their relaxed attire featuring brown trousers, braces and bow ties. The couple exchanged vows beneath a stunning arch dressed with dried flowers, palms and pampas grass overlooking the Camel Valley and featured Thor as the crowd-pleasing ring-bearer, after which a drinks reception flowed, with bubbly fresh from the nearby vineyard. Decorated in luxe neutral tones, the barn was styled with displays of pampas grass and dried flowers, oversized wicker chairs, rattan lightshades and a natural-inspired tablescape. Speeches were scattered throughout the wedding breakfast – a lip-smacking menu “based on our favourite food memories whilst being a couple”, explains Sophie. Nibbles including day-boat mackerel ceviche and broken fish taco were followed by mains of whole smoked chickens, courgette baba ghanoush, summer tabbouleh, burnt aubergines and flatbreads. Oat panna cotta with rose water and strawberries, ginger biscuit crumb and wild honey dressing rounded off the feast. “Whilst our guests were finishing their puddings, we went to Daymer Bay for photographs,” says Sophie of one of the couple’s most treasured moments of the day. They returned for yet another highlight: the first dance. “We decided to do something non-traditional and do ‘The Routine’ from the TV show Friends,” reveals Sophie. “It’s a TV show we both love and represented the fact that we don’t take ourselves seriously. We had practised it pretty last minute and Omid was very confident he would get it all right, but nearly tripped over during the dance!” The venue’s street van served wood-fired pizzas during the evening reception, where the packed dance floor provided Sophie with some of her fondest memories of the day: dancing to Queen with her dad and singing Hey Jude on Omid’s shoulders. “Do what you want to do and don’t let others make you feel like you need to do something else,” says Sophie by sage word of advice. “And enjoy it, as you will look back afterwards and want to do it all again!”

Love in Bloom Daisy and Andy’s dream wedding at Nancarrow Farm was woven with wildflowers and joyful moments Daisy and Andy weren’t looking for love when they met through mutual friends. “We were both just out of big relationships and tried not to fall into anything too serious, but couldn’t stay away from each other,” says Daisy. “Within a few weeks, I’d all but moved in, and several years, a house and a dog later, there was no question that we were meant to be.” Andy surprised Daisy by proposing on the coastal path while the couple were holidaying in Cornwall – and, falling in love with Nancarrow Farm, the couple set their hearts on returning to the county for their wedding. “It’s the most incredible venue – naturally beautiful with so little decoration needed, amazing food and wonderful to have the place to ourselves for a whole weekend!” she says. A wildflower theme and shades of green complemented the venue perfectly, with Daisy’s handpainted floral gown epitomising the natural beauty of the day. The locally grown flowers carried the brief of “wild texture and joyful pops of colour” in gorgeous style, while handmade details such as the clay nametags crafted by Daisy’s mum, stationery designed by Daisy and favours comprising Cornish Sea Salt infused with lemon, chilli and thyme from the couple’s garden added to the rustic and characterful scene. The couple’s emotional ceremony took place in the Rusty Barn. “I cried almost the entire way through and we both barely made it through our hand-written vows,” reflects Daisy. “Luckily our dog Thorin was our ‘ring-bear’ and helped with lots of barking to break the tension.” With both Daisy and Andy working in the drinks industry, guests savoured a drinks menu featuring the finest German lager, champagne and Aperol spritzes as they enjoyed lawn games, tabletop games and live music in the sunshine. After a delicious feast featuring torched red mullet, lamb cooked three ways and Cornish strawberry and lemon curd pavlova, the newlyweds strolled around the farm in the evening sun and visited the pigs before the dancing began. “Our first dance was to Brandi Carlile’s Carried Me With You, which is about not taking love for granted and always being there to support the other through thick and thin,” says Daisy. “We did the classic awkward spin and sway, and pulled everyone in to join us as soon as possible! After that we danced the night away to all our favourite songs.” Looking back, their most treasured memories are a mix of funny and quiet moments. “The dog barking during the ceremony just when all assembled were asked to speak now or forever hold their peace!” laughs Daisy. “We also squirrelled away a bottle of champagne to have together at the end of the evening. We spent half an hour just reflecting on our day as a newly married couple.” For those planning their own wedding, Daisy’s advice is to decide early on what your priorities are and make it your day. “Don’t get caught up in tradition or other people’s expectations if it’s not what you want,” she affirms. “And don’t sweat the small stuff! We had a bridesmaid with a broken ankle, the cake was only finished half an hour before the ceremony started, the dog barked through half of the ceremony and a couple of guests had to drop out last minute – our day was still perfect.”

Beyond the Sea Lusty Glaze was the picture-perfect setting for Christie and Keisha’s relaxed beach wedding The local theatre scene in Cheshire brought performers Christie and Keisha together. “We met, chatted endlessly about the goings on of the theatre world and the rest is history,” smiles Christie, who worked with Rebecca Green from Rebel + Anchor to create a romantic beach proposal at Watergate Bay. “It’s our special place,” she explains. “It ended up being at sunrise due to some weather constraints and then we had a gorgeous breakfast inside a tipi, and a perfect morning chilling.” Continuing with their love for the Cornish coast, the couple began planning their wedding at Lusty Glaze, with a theme to suit. “We wanted a relaxed beachy vibe to match the venue,” says Christie, whose bridesmaids wore ‘Lusty blue’ to complement the colour of the beach huts. “We encouraged all our guests to wear something that was comfy for the beach and the many steps down the cliff.” Starting the day where their Cornish love story began, the couple woke at the Watergate Bay Hotel. “We had the most chilled morning with our bridesmaids getting ready, having our make-up done and eating macaroni cheese!” says Christie. As the couple arrived at their venue, they walked in together for the ceremony to Kina Grannis’ cover of Beyond the Sea. “The ceremony was perfect and nerve-wracking!” says Christie. “We both managed to get through our vows without crying and Keisha’s grandpa and our lovely bridesmaid gave the best speeches. We wanted the ceremony to be truly personal and so asked them to write their own readings, which was gorgeous. Our lovely mums were our witnesses, and then we left as wife and wife to a song from Shrek the Musical!” After cocktails on the beach and photographs on the shore, everyone took their seats to tuck into a barbecue buffet. “It was the best dinner I’ve ever eaten. Highlights included the tuna steak, mackerel and scones for dessert” says Christie, who also loved the glorious cake of cheese, which was created by Lusty Glaze and devoured by their guests. After the newlyweds made their speeches, as well as some poignant words by Christie’s dad and sister and Keisha’s best friend, it was time for Christie’s favourite moment of the day. “It has to be running into the sea with all our girls, dodging jellyfish and a very large surprise wave!” she says, when asked about her highlights. Although they didn’t want a first dance on their own, the couple couldn’t let the moment pass them by, which led to an epic moment of “all-out choreography from Shrek the Musical with our theatre pals”, laughs Christie. “No regrets!” The evening continued with dancing all night long, with some funny memories to look back on. “Our wonderful grandparents had a great time being ‘winched’ down and then back up the cliff. I’m not sure ‘winched’ is quite the right word as we didn’t see it, but my grandma has been entertaining her retirement village friends with the tale ever since!” laughs Christie. Looking back on their love-filled day, Christie advises: “Don’t be led by other people’s expectations. We said all along we didn’t want a circus so didn’t have a lot of aspects that might be considered traditional, which may have raised eyebrows. It was perfect and our guests really enjoyed the more relaxed vibe.”

House Style Boconnoc provided the idyllic backdrop for Hannah and Josh’s dreamily romantic weekend wedding Hannah and Josh first laid eyes on each other in a bar in Brixton. “Josh was moving to Australia five weeks later, so we made the most of the time we had,” reveals Hannah. “We stayed in touch and a few months later met up in Bali for a holiday – during which we decided that I’d move out to Sydney to join him. It was a whirlwind!” Josh proposed to Hannah after the couple had returned to London and it was a case of love at first sight when the couple set eyes on Boconnoc. “From the minute we arrived, we knew it was the perfect venue for us,” she says. “We were able to bring in all of our suppliers, which meant that our wedding was completely personal to us.” Enlisting the planning and styling services of Rebecca Marie, the couple drew on the setting and season to inspire the day’s aesthetic. “We chose Boconnoc for its beauty, so decided to build on that - choosing colours to reflect the Georgian building and spring flowers – lots of neutrals, dusky pinks and whites,” explains Hannah. The floristry was instrumental in creating the look she envisioned, featuring textured and blousy blooms in muted tones. “As a final special touch, our florist Grace sourced a beautiful white orchid for my bouquet as a nod to my upbringing in Singapore,” says Hannah. The couple’s “romantic and timeless” vision was achieved in the reception space through an abundance of roses, tall tapered candles, oat coloured linens, stoneware crockery and gold rimmed glassware. Hosting a weekend of celebrations, guests were greeted with a welcome dinner on the Friday complete with a pizza truck, Cornish ice cream trike and steel buckets of rosé. The next morning, Hannah donned her dazzling custom gown for the church ceremony at Boconnoc. “I walked down the aisle with my dad and bridesmaids to To Build A Home played beautifully by our string quartet,” she says. “One of my favourite moments was surprising Josh with a poem I had written for him, read by my oldest friend.” Drinks and canapés on the lawn ensued, after which the speeches (and a mid-dinner R&B set) were delivered during a supper featuring herb crusted hake and local lamb with family-style sides to share. “Sitting at the table during the wedding breakfast, listening to the speeches and looking round at all of our closest family and friends feeling immense gratitude,” reveals Hannah of the couple’s favourite moment. “There’s no feeling like it!” Everyone enjoyed cocktails and pavlova on the lawn as the sun was setting before the newlyweds kicked off an evening of merriment with their first dance to Elton John’s Are You Ready For Love. “The following morning, we hosted guests for coffees and pastries on the lawn before heading off for a family lunch, then set off on safari the next day for our honeymoon,” says Hannah. “Follow your instinct, and spend your efforts on the meaningful touches” she advises other couples in the throes of planning. “Everyone says it, but take a moment for yourselves on the day – you’ll remember it forever!”
