Workplace Wellness The 2012 Wellness at Heart Awards!
DECEMBER 2012
This could be you! On the night of August 1, 2012, Saskatoon paramedic Brett Hart thought he was responding to a “regular” cardiac arrest call. As he entered the home he found a woman giving her husband CPR. Her quick action gave her husband the time he needed until paramedics arrived and stabilized him.

Hart recognized the woman but could not recall from where. Two weeks later, he received an email from her employer solving the mystery. Just 2 months earlier, Hart had been to their workplace and trained everyone in CPR and the use of an AED. This woman was in that class and had used what she learned to save her husband’s life. “Bystander CPR works” says Hart. Being a field paramedic for years, he has seen a few saves similar to this, but this one reinforced the importance of bystander CPR. Knowledge is Power - everyone should be trained in CPR and ready to act. For more information on learning CPR at your workplace, please contact the office at 1-800-663-3600

Fuel Your Workplace with Vegetables and Fruit Vegetables and fruit are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. These nutrients are essential for health and can help improve your ability to fight disease and illness. Consuming a healthy diet rich in vegetables and fruit may also help lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, and some cancers.
Canada’s Food Guide recommends that adults consume 7-10 servings of vegetables and fruit each day. Helpful Hints *Try to have a vegetable or fruit with every snack or meal. This will help you reach the recommended number of servings of vegetables and fruit each day.
