Breakout Sessions on »Driving Business Performance with Industry Solutions« Chairperson of these sessions is Denis Nalon, Fujitsu.
November 9 5.30 – 6.15 pm (Room 12) Biometrics Solutions – Has Biometrics in the Enterprise Come of Age? Alex Bazin, Head of Biometrics, Fujitsu Biometrics, the science of identifying people by physical or behavioural characteristics, has been a successful technology in criminal justice for decades. It has increasingly become commonplace when travelling and even in interactions with many civil government organizations. The use of biometrics in the enterprise has been much slower in coming, but recently the investment case has begun to swing in favour of commercial deployments in both staff and customer facing systems. The benefits from biometric deployments are fairly universal: improved security and data protection compliance, coupled with an ability to reduce costs through automation. This presentation examines those areas of commercial life where biometric systems are becoming increasingly commonplace: customer contact centres, time and attendance systems, password management and logical access control. We also consider how biometrics might be affected by the trend of the moment, cloud computing. November 10 9.00 – 9.45 am (Room 4) Retail as a Service – Transforming the Store IT Operation Model Richard Clarke, Vice President, Global Retail Strategy, Fujitsu Fujitsu is offering end to end retail solutions, including store hardware, software, services and flexible infrastuctures, priced on a »pay as you go« subscription basis. Benefits for the retailer include reduced TCO, changing capital costs to operating costs, faster and lower-cost technology refresh and increased control over multiple vendors. November 10 12.00 –12.45 pm (Room 4) Operational Performance in Financial Institutions with Smart Capture Solutions and Process Improvement Juan Angulo Lopez-Dóriga, Applications Services Director, Fujitsu Mr. Angulo will present a case study to improve efficiency in the
business process in the financial sector. Financial institutions use, within their business processes, multiple and heterogenous sources of information where different agents, processes of validation and systems interact. And it is using tools of capture, classification, extraction, validation and export information as well as tools to design and develop flows, as they reach higher levels of efficiency, speed of response, security and risk mitigation. The intensity in the use of paper within the sector, among other reasons, motivated by regulatory requirements, determines that financial institutions have an urgent need to optimize these business processes to maintain a high competitive edge in the quality of customer service and the reduction of operating costs. November 10 1.00 – 1.45 pm (Room 4) Innovation and the Future of IT in Healthcare Dr. Lester Russell, Global Chief Medical Officer, Fujitsu Technology is taking a relevant role in almost every industry and healthcare is becoming more and more important for our society. In this session Dr. Russell will explain how innovations from Fujitsu will contribute to shape the future of the healthcare industry, bringing some examples from recent projects with Fujitsu customers in UK, Europe, Japan and other countries across the world. November 10 2.00 – 2.45 pm (Room 4) ECM – Innovation for the Public Sector Dr. Knuth Lange, Principal IT-Consultant, Fujitsu The presentation will show examples of some of Fujitsu’s Public Sector customers in Germany and their sometimes specialized solutions for Input Management, Document Management and Preservation. Apart from the technical aspects of an ECM project, organizational and human factors play a major part and are therefore highlighted by Fujitsu’s Strategic IT Consulting during an ECM implementation.

Innovation Forum Experience tomorrow’s IT today Chairperson of these sessions is Adel Rouz, Fujitsu Laboratories.
The Innovation Forum takes a longer-term view of IT, highlighting how new developments can help develop society in many different areas. By providing you with a snapshot of the technologies designed to improve tomorrow’s world, it enables faster, easier IT planning and decision-making. You can see the technologies themselves, and listen to six high profile speakers. November 9 10.00 – 10.45 am (Room 12) Human Centric Intelligent Society Tatsuo Tomita, President and Dr. Hirotaka Hara, President of Software System Laboratories, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. Fujitsu Laboratories’ R&D activities envisage a Human Centric Intelligent Society. The aim is to close the gap between the real world and the virtual world of ICT, and to provide solutions for complex and large-scale problems which will address social challenges and open up a new realm of possibilities. In this presentation the ongoing core strategic research themes at Fujitsu Laboratories will be introduced, demonstrating how some of these innovative technologies can be applied to realize the goal of an intelligent society. November 9 12.30 – 1.15 pm (Room 12) Cloud Fusion: Above the Hybrid Cloud Dr. Hiro Kishimoto, Deputy General Manager, Research Center for Cloud Computing, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Visiting Professor, National Institute of Informatics, Japan Enterprise early adopters are already using private clouds and multiple public clouds, known as hybrid clouds. They are now facing difficult problems, including cloud management complexity, cloud security risks, and uncertain service levels. In response to these challenges Fujitsu Laboratories has developed PaaS operation lifecycle management, cloud network visualization and analysis, and information-centric security. November 9 2.00 – 2.45 pm (Room 12) Toward Human Centric Computing Dr. Ichiro Iida, Head of Human Centric Computing, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. Human centric computing is a new technology paradigm involving the computing resource being provided according to human circumstances on an »anywhere and anytime« basis. The shift of the paradigm, from technology-centric to human-centric, results in the creation of a new set of real-world values. In turn, this gives rise to a huge and dynamic new market that demands a different approach, well beyond the scope of today’s ICT. This presentation focuses on how Fujitsu Laboratories is addressing this new dynamic through its research across the spectrum of human-centric computing applications.
November 10 9.00 – 9.45 am (Room 12) High Performance Computing, Applications and Challenges Dr. Ross Nobes, Assistant Division Manager Environment and Health Research Division, Fujitsu Laboratories Europe After a gap of more than 15 years, Fujitsu has recently regained the No. 1 position in the TOP500 list of the world’s most powerful computers, with the K Computer, jointly developed with RIKEN. The use of high-performance computing (HPC) is indispensable for exploring solutions to problems facing society. The use of HPC is also a vital tool for industrial competitiveness, not just for large companies but also for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). In this session we will describe the evolution of the K Computer and Fujitsu’s initiatives for promoting open engagement with the computational science community. The HPC Wales Project will be used to illustrate how HPC can promote regional economic development. November 10 12.00 –12.45 pm (Room 12) Next-Generation Green Data Center Kouichi Kumon, Member of the Board of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. The Green Data Center project is one of the core strategic research projects of Fujitsu Laboratories. The project’s principal target is to achieve tangible power reduction. However, by investigating a new architecture, we also aim to improve data center values themselves, for example by adding greater operational flexibilities at reasonable cost. This presentation will highlight the basic concepts and technologies of the project, and reveal some of the preliminary results of our first proof of concept experiments.
