The service consists of seven stops at various locations throughout the town as well as at Walmart in Trenton. Running on weekdays only, as per schedule, the fares are $5 each way between towns (includes one transfer for Trenton public transit system) and $2 each way within Brighton.

Garbage Pickup Garbage or recycling missed? Please call 1.866.293.8379 or 905.349.3900 Bag Tag Info • Remember the three-bag limit!

Residents may place up to, but no more than, three bags of household garbage at the curb for weekly collection. Place a $2.75 green bag tag sticker on each bag. Each bag can weigh no more than 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Bags placed in garbage cans should be tagged on the bag not on the can. Size of Garbage cans/ bins no larger than 80 litres (17 gallons). No oversized bins/cans please. Full bag tag MUST be visible for collection. Garbage tags can be purchased at all municipal offices, including the County office, landfill and transfer stations, as well as a number of convenience and retail stores. Some vendors charge a handling fee of 10 per cent (a maximum of $3.02 per tag).

1. Volunteer Driving Program This service is available to adults who are aging, have special needs, or are recovering from illness or injury, with priority given based on assessed need. Rides to attend: appointments (medical drives take priority), meetings, work, school, social, shopping, or recreational activities.

To book a ride for the Volunteer Driving Program, you must pre-register as a client.

This program transports clients to destinations within and outside Northumberland County.

Must be a registered client to use this service.

Call Community Care Northumberland 1.866.514.5774 A volunteer driver provides transportation using their personal vehicle. They transport clients to destinations within Northumberland County as well as outside the County for medical, social, banking, recreational purposes and activities of daily living requirements. Volunteers provide door-todoor service as needed. There is a fee for service. Please contact your local Community Care Northumberland office to book a ride.

We rely heavily on the generosity of donors who drop off items throughout the year to help us reduce the financial strain of providing basic and necessary supplies like KMR milk formula, food and specialized foods for seniors/urinary care/ GI sensitivities, cat litter, cleaning supplies, puppy pads, toys, and warm blankets for over 2,000 animals we care for each year.

Arts, Culture, Heritage, Entertainment Brighton Barn Theatre Brighton Barn Theatre is housed in the 1880s era Proctor-Simpson Barn, which was moved from the farm of Rene and Jerry Simpson to Proctor Park in 1999.

HERITAGE Brighton Digital Archives Preserving Brighton’s Heritage – One Image at a Time The goal of this volunteer-driven municipal project is to establish an online presence for Brighton’s history and heritage. Murray Marsh – The Amazon of the Trent River Valley Access: Goodfellow Road The Murray Marsh is one of the largest remaining wetlands in southeastern Ontario and is situated in the heart of the Lower Trent Conservation watershed region.

Encompassing approximately 3,760 hectares (10,000 acres), Murray Marsh is classified as a provincially significant wetland and is of regional significance for wildlife. This wetland is the only major floodwater storage area for the Trent River south of Campbellford.

It also serves as a giant filtration system for

nutrients, improving the water quality in the Trent River. Almost 50 per cent of Murray Marsh is protected with the combined ownership of approximately 4,800 acres between Lower Trent Conservation and the Ministry of Natural Resources.

A favourite route for many is the paved one-way driving loop (Lighthouse Lane and Paxton Drive) around the peninsula.

This road has a designated walking/bike lane and is ploughed in the winter. This is still a road however and walkers are urged to be cautious, particularly in the busy summer months.

For those wanting a more natural experience Presqu’ile has 12 kilometres of traditional off-road trails. All trails are clearly marked with coloured plastic blazes and are cleared of dead-fall on a regular basis.

Jobes’ Woods Trail This one km loop winds through an area once part of a farm settled by Thomas and Ezekial Jobes in 1835. This part of their farm remained relatively undisturbed by settlement activity and today contains one of the oldest deciduous woodlots at Presqu’ile. The trail passes by towering old

maples, vernal pools crossed by boardwalks, conifer plantations, and an old field which is filling in with ash trees after a century of use by the Jobes family. An interpretive guide introducing visitors to the ecology of the Jobes’ forest is available at the trailhead.

Owen Point Trail This 1.6 km loop trail offers excellent opportunities to see migrating shorebirds along the natural beach and distant views of the water bird colonies on their island nesting grounds. The trail can be accessed from the south end of the beach or from west end of High Bluff Campground.

To avoid disturbing migrating birds the natural beach is closed to foot traffic between ice-out and ice-in, but the trail provides a number of lookouts allowing views of the entire shore. To protect the nesting water birds access to Gull and High Bluff Islands is closed from March 10 to September 10 inclusive. Gull Island can usually be accessed by foot after September 10 from lookout #5 of the Owen Point Trail. An interpretive guide to the ecology of the point and the islands is available at the trailheads.

Marsh Boardwalk Trail This 1.2 km loop trail includes over 800 meters of boardwalk that takes visitors into the marsh.

The boardwalk has been totally rebuilt by the Friends of Presqu’ile Park and their volunteers, with help from Park Staff. The new boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and includes three teaching zones, two viewing towers and a number of bridges and 17 interpretive panels.

Pioneer and Newcastle Trails These trails lead you through the forests, plantations, and old fields found in the heart of the Presqu’ile peninsula. Along these trails you will encounter a diversity of plant and animal life in the mature beech-maple forest, old fields and early succession forest which dominate this area of the park. The Pioneer Trail is 3.8 km long and marked by yellow plastic blazes. The Newcastle Trail is 4.3 km long and is marked by orange plastic blazes. The trailhead for both trails is halfway along Lighthouse Lane, though there are a number of other access points along both trails. Please note both trails use Park roadways for part of their length so be cautious of vehicles and monitor children running ahead on the trail.

Bicycles are not allowed on any of the designated trails at Presqu’ile Park.

Presqu’ile Yacht Club The club has a capacity of 48 members with boats ranging up to 31 feet. The club runs an active racing program. Cruises are organized during the summer months to various locations around Lake Ontario. Other social activities include barbeques, potluck suppers and corn roasts.

Built in 1883 for banker J.PC. Phillips and his wife, Harriet Dougall Phillips, the house accurately depicts domestic Second Empire Architecture. In 1971, the building became a museum, and currently displays approximately 35,000 artifacts, restored period rooms, local historical displays, and special annual exhibits.

The high Victorian style of decorative clutter, typical of the time, ensures there is much to see so plan to spend an hour or more touring the museum. Glanmore is open to the public six days a week and offers a wide variety of programs and activities for schools and the public. Guided and self-guided tours are available year-round.
