We operate strictly on a volunteer basis (no paid employees or government funding) so every single dollar donated goes to the day-to-day and medical care of the animals (e.g., spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and medical emergencies). We rely heavily on the generosity of donors who drop off items throughout the year to help us reduce the financial strain of providing basic and necessary supplies like KMR milk formula, food and specialized foods for seniors/urinary care/ GI sensitivities, cat litter, cleaning supplies, puppy pads, toys, and warm blankets for over 2,000 animals we care for each year. 613.966.6292 • www.fixedfurlife.com Framed prints • Needle Work & Stretch • Limited Edition Prints • Paper Tole • Photo Frames Memorabilia • Originals

Empire Cider Born on a stormy Thanksgiving weekend, right in the heart of Ontario’s Apple Country. With a deep love of dry hard cider and using high quality local ingredients, we handcrafted the crisp, tart ray of liquid sunshine. This is a traditional cider. It’s unfiltered, unpasteurized, and bottle carbonated with local honey. The result is an extra dry, slightly cloudy, golden liquid with a natural yeast deposit at the bottom of each bottle. And yes, those are all real Ontario apples we are pressing. Life’s better with cider. 222 Old Wooler Road, Codrington www.empirecider.ca Glover’s Farm Market Local produce, cheese, meats, pies, giftware, décor, and a charming tea house featuring soups and desserts. 14260 County Road 29 Warkworth 705.924.3640 • www.gloversfarmmarket.com

Popham Lane Farm Local farming at its best -- we are looking to connect with local businesses interested in incorporating black currants into their operations. We also offer a u-pick (and are happy to pick for you!). We picked about 1,500lbs of fruit in 2017 from our producing plants and expect exponential increases in coming years, as we aim for approximately 13,000 plants within the next year or so. Lovely mature fruit with a complexity of flavours. We are thrilled to be bringing the black currant back to Ontario and excited to share our crop with you! Check out one of the region’s biggest Black Currant farms - with 11,500 plants, including 7,500 planted in 2016, and 3,000 planted in 2017. Products include black currants (u-pick, or we pick!), black currant jam and sauce, frozen black currants, and more coming as our operation comes fully online!

BRIGHTON Population 11,844

From the often turbulent shores of Lake Ontario to the northern border of Codrington, from Crahame Hill to the Murray Canal, Brighton’s 222 square kilometres offer stunning vistas, abundant wildlife, family farms, waterfront, and a business district lined with charming boutiques. Officially, Brighton is comprised of seven communities – the old town of Brighton, Cankerville, Smithfield, Gosport, Hilton, Orland, and Codrington. These are the well-known villages, but there are so many other landmarks to discover. There is Presqu’ile Provincial Park with its network of trails and boardwalks. There is Vinegar Hill and Popham Bay and that century farm on Stoney Point Road, the one where you have leave Brighton to find more of Brighton. There is the crest of the hill on Telephone Road where you can see forever, and that turn at the old Stewart farm from Carman Road onto County Road 26 where on a clear day you can see tomorrow. Take a drive, discover Brighton’s charms.

A favourite route for many is the paved one-way driving loop (Lighthouse Lane and Paxton Drive) around the peninsula. This road has a designated walking/bike lane and is ploughed in the winter. This is still a road however and walkers are urged to be cautious, particularly in the busy summer months. For those wanting a more natural experience Presqu’ile has 12 kilometres of traditional off-road trails. All trails are clearly marked with coloured plastic blazes and are cleared of dead-fall on a regular basis. Jobes’ Woods Trail This one km loop winds through an area once part of a farm settled by Thomas and Ezekial Jobes in 1835. This part of their farm remained relatively undisturbed by settlement activity and today contains one of the oldest deciduous woodlots at Presqu’ile. The trail passes by towering old

maples, vernal pools crossed by boardwalks, conifer plantations, and an old field which is filling in with ash trees after a century of use by the Jobes family. An interpretive guide introducing visitors to the ecology of the Jobes’ forest is available at the trailhead. Owen Point Trail This 1.6 km loop trail offers excellent opportunities to see migrating shorebirds along the natural beach and distant views of the water bird colonies on their island nesting grounds. The trail can be accessed from the south end of the beach or from west end of High Bluff Campground.

To avoid disturbing migrating birds the natural beach is closed to foot traffic between ice-out and ice-in, but the trail provides a number of lookouts allowing views of the entire shore. To protect the nesting water birds access to Gull and High Bluff Islands is closed from March 10 to September 10 inclusive. Gull Island can usually be accessed by foot after September 10 from lookout #5 of the Owen Point Trail. An interpretive guide to the ecology of the point and the islands is available at the trailheads.

Marsh Boardwalk Trail This 1.2 km loop trail includes over 800 meters of boardwalk that takes visitors into the marsh. The boardwalk has been totally rebuilt by the Friends of Presqu’ile Park and their volunteers, with help from Park Staff. The new boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and includes three teaching zones, two viewing towers and a number of bridges and 17 interpretive panels. Pioneer and Newcastle Trails These trails lead you through the forests, plantations, and old fields found in the heart of the Presqu’ile peninsula. Along these trails you will encounter a diversity of plant and animal life in the mature beech-maple forest, old fields and early succession forest which dominate this area of the park. The Pioneer Trail is 3.8 km long and marked by yellow plastic blazes. The Newcastle Trail is 4.3 km long and is marked by orange plastic blazes. The trailhead for both trails is halfway along Lighthouse Lane, though there are a number of other access points along both trails. Please note both trails use Park roadways for part of their length so be cautious of vehicles and monitor children running ahead on the trail. Bicycles are not allowed on any of the designated trails at Presqu’ile Park. Doors Open Northumberland Discover the Story Behind Every Door The rolling hills of Northumberland County are renowned for their stunning vistas at every turn – a reputation well-earned. Stretching from Lake Ontario to Rice Lake, this slice of paradise we call home continually offers new discoveries. Whether we’re hoping to research its history, enjoy its natural beauty, or create new memories, Northumberland County will always satisfy our curiosity. On June 1 and 2, 2019, thanks to participation in the Ontario Heritage Trust’s Doors Open, we have a chance to experience it in a different way. Dozens of venues throughout the County literally open their doors to visitors, all at no charge, offering tours, history, experiences, and of course, fond memories. We get to peek

15 Creswell Drive, Trenton Kathy Lammers, Marina Manager 613.392.2841 x 7101 • trentportmarina.ca Glanmore National Historic Site Walk through the front doors of Glanmore and return to the upper-class lifestyle of the 1890s. Built in 1883 for banker J.PC. Phillips and his wife, Harriet Dougall Phillips, the house accurately depicts domestic Second Empire Architecture. In 1971, the building became a museum, and currently displays approximately 35,000 artifacts, restored period rooms, local historical displays, and special annual exhibits. The high Victorian style of decorative clutter, typical of the time, ensures there is much to see so plan to spend an hour or more touring the museum. Glanmore is open to the public six days a week and offers a wide variety of programs and activities for schools and the public. Guided and self-guided tours are available year-round. Guided tours are available by appointment. Admission fee. 257 Bridge Street East, Belleville 613.962.2329 • glanmore.ca
