MAKING A DIFFERENCE Designing inclusive and diverse soft wearable technologies Thursday, June 2, 10:00 am Dr. Cindy Hsin-Liu Kao,Assistant Professor in Human Centered Design We are pleased to announce our next speaker series session with Cindy Hsin-Liu Kao. We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Kao to share her unique work designing on-skin interfaces (i.e., smart tattoos and bandages), electronic textiles in HumanComputer Interaction and Wearable projects that blend art, science, and engineering boundaries.

We are very excited to provide this challenge to students can't wait to see how they will rise to the challenge!

COMMUNITY OF THE FUTURE This challenge is School Maker Faire ready! There is still have time to register for the Community of the Future challenge. Are your students concerned about the future? Help them work out some of the social, economic, ecological and environmental issues that are affecting their communities by identify the problems and designing solutions! This year Brilliant Labs will be challenging teachers and students to code stories, games, apps, robots, and more! Join Brilliant Labs and the "I Move, I Learn" movement on June 10, 2022 for the annual Walk in Colours event! This year, participating classes will be able to help their native ecosystems by planting seeds of their province's official flowers.

MISSION MARS

This challenge is School Maker Faire ready! Attention all space explorers, coders and makers! Mission: Mars is at 100% capacity for kits, but you can still participate if you have materials. In this challenge, students work together to design, engineer, and prototype a Mars rover to complete as many challenges as they wish. Students can code their rovers to gather data from sensors including temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, magnetic fields, light intensity and more. Each participating class will receive a Mission: Mars rover kit along with guides for how to complete any and all missions. This year we will have 5 different events for you to compete either virtually or in person. If you are registered for your challenge, we will keep you up to date through email. Learn more

SUSTAINABLE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CHALLENGE This challenge is School Maker Faire ready! Through socially responsible entrepreneurship you will empower your students to create a positive impact and leave the world a better place. Join us for the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Challenge: Think of a problem or need and a sustainable business idea that can fix or support it! In preparation for the regional Makerfaire, St. Anne’s Regional School is hard at work creating many different projects. After watching the opening of the Olympics, Ms. Amélie’s class were wondering how to create fireworks that were less harmful to the environment. They learned about fireworks using thousands of drones. The class would like to reproduce this using small dash robots and write an automatic programmed message.

Our project portal contains over 140 project ideas available in French and English for you to do at home or in your class. You can search our data base by United Nation SDG, by tech, by school subject or peruse through all the projects to inspire new ideas. Find out more here.
