Designing Circular Systems with Midushi Kochhar

November 10th 1:30 pm AST

Our making for a circular economy challenge is based on the concept of a circular economy. This is when an object (or product) can be come food or the material to make something else. In a perfect circular economy world, there would be no landfills. Everything would be reused. To accomplish this we need to change the way we think and use materials. We have to start from existing materials instead of sourcing new ones, recycle the materials we have while they keeping their quality.

Trained as an industrial designer, Midushi Kochhar’s design and making methodology aims at redirecting and rebuilding symbiotic connections for circular futures. This talk will take you through the journey of how easily accessible residual materials can be brought back into our urban living systems and how we can add value to such “classed” waste resources.

COOP courses

What if you could design products or clothes with materials you grow from nature? This concept is a part of Innovation Fashion movement. Meaning, the search for sustainable practices, materials and culture is needed to lower CO2 emissions, chemical waste, landfills and create zero unsafe and unfair labor conditions.

Let's consider how science, observation, and innovation can be used to engineer solutions to help protect our oceans and sustainably grow our Blue Economies.

Inspiration Maker This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this New Brunswick's "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: JACOB LINGLEY WHERE: GEORGE STREET MIDDLE SCHOOL , FREDERICTON TWITTER: @JMRLINGLEY After being with Brilliant Labs for seven years, our very own Jacob Lingley is back in the classroom. Many of us have heard Jacob share his thoughts on the role maker-centred learning can have on education. It is not surprising that on our first visit to his classroom, he has essentially tried to implement maker culture across every surface. He was invited to create his own classroom where there was no furniture or whiteboards. What a time to bring together a collection of ideas, providing students with a space for making. Tables have been custom sized and made with readily available EMT conduit. The dryerase board is 20 feet long, why not use the belt 3D printer to make a 20 foot long marker ledge? Now the only thing to do is check in with Jacob as he invites his 200 students to make something brilliant.

Project Highlight SUMMER CAMP 2022

Support youth education and empowerment today! NOVEMBER 2022

Our summer mentors were hard at work creating fun projects for students. Here is Josh and Jacob’s project. The idea behind this activity was to build an interactive coding game that uses Scratch programming, Makey Makey controllers, 3D printing and circuits. It is appropriate for participants K+, and they used it in a booth-style 10TH presentation at the Public Library’s end of the year party. To make 10AM this project with your student visit
