PHILIP’S, NL Elementary students at Brookside Elementary learned about what it takes to create prosthetics for local community members with the help of Ms. Whalen, a Physiotherapist who works at the Miller Centre. Students learned about the specific needs of clients who require prosthetics as well as the importance of accessibility in our communities. After learning about Terry Fox, students were then challenged to design a leg prosthetic considering design criteria such as comfort, flexibility, strength, fit etc. They were able to compare their designs to the professional prosthetics that have been made at the Miller Centre.
