MISSION MARS
Brilliant Labs is pleased to announce our next speaker series with Jayson Myers, CEO of Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen), the industry-led community behind Canada’s most transformative advanced manufacturing projects. Advanced manufacturing is changing how people live, and you could play a leading role in making that happen. From fighting climate change to tackling food insecurity, it means a good career building an even better future.. Join NGen for a discussion on how robotics, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other advanced manufacturing is helping to solve some of the world’s challenges
Mission: Mars is back! In this challenge, students will work together to design, engineer, and prototype a Mars rover to complete as many challenges as they wish. Students can code their rovers to gather data from sensors. Each participating class will receive a Mission: Mars rover kit along with guides for how to complete missions. Completed rovers will be mailed back to a central location where students will compete over the internet using live video of their rover and a custom coded web based controller. Registration is limited.

ROBOTZ GOT BRILLIANCE
We deeply value the implication of the UN SDG’s. With the innovation and infrastructure goal, and the aim of attaining inclusive and sustainable industrialization, what can our students create? As superfluous as a fun robotic system can be, for example, a robot that chews gum, we urge you to think of the larger implications of such creations. What are the innovations that can be taken from that robot? We are very excited to provide this challenge to our students and see how they can rise to the challenge.

This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share New Brunswick's "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: MÉLANIE JONES WHERE: GEORGE STREET MIDDLE SCHOOL Before the recent lockdown, Mélanie and her Grade 6 students from George Street Middle School were preparing to explore ideas of flight with Brilliant Labs. Students had already been thinking about different maker materials to represent their knowledge of flight when plans had to change. Rather than pausing what would have been an innovative maker opportunity for her students, Mélanie created a virtual experience through Tinkercad. The depth of spatial awareness students expressed was truly inspiring. Even though Mélanie’s students were not making anything physical, her students were able to construct incredibly complex ideas. It is interesting to think how pandemic restraints, while limiting, could have created an opportunity to think in a new way.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
Sustainable Entrepreneurship Challenge
We are in awe of what students at Riverview High School have been able to achieve in their project: DNArt. Using a matrix of 27 individually addressable LED rings, students have begun to colour code the codons representing an amino acid. While a full amino acid would require hundreds of these rings to be displayed in its entirety, the students are developing code that highlights a section of the genetic code depending on how close an observer is to a sensor.
Through socially responsible entrepreneurship you will empower your students to create a positive impact and leave the world a better place. Join us for the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Challenge: Think of a problem or need and a sustainable business idea that can fix or support it!
EARTH DAY APRIL 22
Projects will be shared during our School MakerFaire on June 9th. Reach out to info@brilliantlabs.ca to join the challenge.
