PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS Ms. Whitney Pye’s 7-9 class at St. Mary’s All Grade School in Mary’s Harbour, Labrador, has been working on their Hackoween projects. Students are using various pieces of coding technology including Makey Makeys, micro:bit, robits and b.Boards, to create their own Halloween decoration. Students have opted to create an original design rather than “hacking” an existing decoration. One student created a 3D printed jack o'lantern and others are using cardboard and other household items to create their pieces. Every piece is unique and with the aid of technology has some aspect of lights or sound.

Inspiration Makers! This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this Newfoundland "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: RHONDA-LEE MARTIN WHERE: CLOUD RIVER ACADEMY TWITTER : @RHONDAMARTIN77 Ms. Martin has been instrumental in starting and running the Indigenous Student Alliance group at her school and is working diligently to ensure that Indigenous students in her school have the opportunity to become makers by learning through projects connected to their Inuit and Innu culture. Most recently, Ms. Martin shared her learning experience about soap carving with her students. Members of the Indigenous Student Alliance at CRA have also had the opportunity to work on making traditional clothing by connecting virtually with Indigenous partners from the town of Hopedale, NL and with the help of teachers Adam Gaye and Natalie Whelan students also built a Kamatuk. The plans for a traditional Kamatuk were shared with the group by an Inuk Partner from Hopedale.
