FAMILY FUN AT VICTORIA PARK GOLF COMPLEX
We already thought that Victoria Park Golf Complex at Herston had it all: a stellar 18 hole putt putt course, a kids playground, jumping castles on weekends, a pizza kitchen and kid-friendly bistro, plus stunning views of the city skyline. But now, the family-owned and operated Victoria Park is opening a rotisserie style kitchen, serving hearty roast meals daily. Who’s keen for a roast lunch or dinner with the fam, followed by a few rounds of putt putt? Sounds like the makings of a new family tradition! SPEND THE DAY AT VICTORIA PARK There is so much to do at Victoria Park, and you could easily spend the day checking out their facilities, including: · mini-golf/putt putt course · driving range · golf course · golf lessons (including junior classes) · kids playground · giant games and jumping castle every weekend · licensed bistro with kids menu (close to kids facilities) · kids food and putt putt party packages · pizza kitchen · rotisserie kitchen - offering family table style roast meals ‘launching October 2017’ · stunning function spaces with city views VICTORIA PARK: AN OASIS IN THE CITY When you walk into Victoria Park and you gaze over the expansive green golf course, it’s hard to believe you are so close to the city. Yet, the views of the spectacular city skyline remind you that you that it’s only a hop, skip and a jump from Brisbane’s CBD. It’s also the ideal location for mothers groups that happily meet at the bistro each week for coffee and make use of the playground, outdoor areas, and free parking on site!

UNUSUAL ANIMAL EXPERIENCES
unusual animal experiences Some of the funniest and most interesting animals are the feathered kind, which is why we have chosen them as our theme for the spring edition of the Brisbane Kids Magazine. Take a look at these unusual bird encounters you can enjoy in Brisbane... OBSERVE DAILY PELICAN FEEDINGS AT CLONTARF Enjoy feedings of the local pelicans next to the visitor centre at Pelican Park daily at 10am. Pelican Park boasts a wonderful seaside setting, with two fenced playgrounds and lots of spots for picnics. Did you know that they feed the pelicans to check that they don’t have any fishing rubbish caught in their mouths? Neither did we! https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au
MARVEL AT BIRDS OF PREY AT O’REILLY’S RAINFOREST RETREAT Lamington National Park offers so much more than pristine rainforests and treetop walks. At O’Reilly’s you can enjoy some incredible nature shows and tours, including the daily Birds of Prey show. Weather permitting, the shows happen every day at 1pm. The barking owl is a favourite for kids, and there is often the chance to don a handler glove to enjoy the thrill of holding a bird of prey. This is a group show, though there is an option to book a one-on-one encounter via their website. Everything you need to know can be found at https://oreillys.com.au/activities/birds-prey/ GET A SELFIE WIH AN EMU AT LONE PINE There is just something about the emus at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Head to the open area where the kangaroos freely roam and you will find emus wandering around the place. Be respectful of their space and never stand behind them, and you’ll find they are as curious of you as you are of them. Many a selfie has been taken with an emu at Lone Pine. Compare their one off entry to annual passes and you will likely want to invest in a year round pass. https://www.koala.net.au

5 AWESOME SPRING WALKS
MOUNT GLORIOUS MOUNT GLORIOUS Mount Glorious, accessible from Samford via Mount Glorious Road, is aptly named. There’s a glorious picnic area with wood-fired BBQs, quaint cafés, and some excellent walks for families. Greens Falls is a highlight: this 4.3km walk takes you through beautiful rainforest before bringing you out at a pretty waterfall. There’s also a shorter 2km rainforest circuit, perfect for little legs. MOUNT TAMBORINE Tamborine Mountain is situated about 80km south of Brisbane via Beenleigh and Tamborine Village or via the Pacific Highway and Oxenford–Tamborine Road. There’s numerous family-friendly walks on offer in the beautiful Tamborine National Park, including walks at Cedar Creek, Palm Grove and Witches Falls. Afterwards, there’s the delightful Tamborine Mountain village to explore.
MOUNT TAMBORINE

MOUNT MEE Mount Mee is one of Brisbane’s best kept secrets – there’s rainforest walks, a café with stunning views, remnants of a historic timber mill, and an expansive picnic area… without the crowds. To get there, take a picturesque drive through Samford and Dayboro, before turning onto Mount Mee Road. Follow the signs to D’Aguilar National Park and you will arrive at the day use area, known as The Gantry. From here, there’s two bush walks to choose from: the relaxing Piccabeen circuit (1km), or the more challenging Somerset trail (13 km). BEFORE YOU HEAD OFF MAKE SURE YOU LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND TAKE ADEQUATE WATER WITH YOU. FOR MORE BUSHWALKING SAFETY ADVICE HEAD TO https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au

5 AWESOME SPRING WALKS CONTINUED
MOUNT NGUNGUN MOUNT NGUNGUN Feel like conquering a mountain? Mount Ngungun, one of the landmark Glasshouse Mountains, is challenging enough to be satisfying, while still achievable for kids. The Mount Ngungun climb is a 2.8km return track, with uninterrupted views from the top of neighbouring Mount Tibrogargan, Mount Coonowrin and Mount Beerwah. Don’t forget the sunscreen and water for this walk, as the track is often exposed to the elements. To find out more, visit the Glass House Mountains Visitor and Interpretative Centre, located in Settlers Rotary Park on the corner of Bruce Parade and Steve Irwin Way.
MOUNT COOLUM If it’s still too cool to swim at the beach, why not climb a mountain instead? Mount Coolum, located within Mount Coolum National Park on the Sunshine Coast, is a steep climb, but achievable for most children. At the top, the views over Coolum and the ocean make all the hard work worthwhile. Spring is the perfect time to attempt this walk, as it can get very hot in summer. The Mount Coolum National Park is located on Tanah Street West, Mount Coolum. Secure your car and don’t leave valuables behind..
Be prepared, be safe.
Remember that children will need to be supervised closely, particularly at the summit where there are cliff edges with dramatic drops. Take extra care around the summit area in wet weather as rocks become slippery. You will need to be reasonably fit to make this climb – there are a lot of steps!

In an unassuming location in North Brisbane (curiously a location referred to as a “village”), a small shop has opened known as the Store of Requirement. Inspired by the wizarding world of of Harry Potter, the Store of Requirement is everything a fan of the wizarding world could want, and more. The creators are humble owners, asking for understanding and patience, as they start small. Patience to allow for their plan to slowly evolve (as they should) into a wonderful hub of fantastic wizardry indulgence.

Right now you can expect a truly spectacular cozy wizarding store in a room adorned with Hogwarts paraphernalia and collectables, in addition to a lovely seating area to soak up the atmosphere. Future plans include the serving of Butter Beer, holiday workshops and wizarding kids parties, but remember, if you do go there, to be kind and patient; content in the knowledge that Hogwarts was not built overnight. WHERE: The Store of Requirement is located at 20 Station Street Samford Village (you will find them alongside, but almost within the Flying Nun Café). 20 Station Street, Samford
