CAMPFIRE FRIENDLY CAMPSITES Nothing says winter like camping with a campfire, so we spent some time finding all the best places to camp with families that also allow a campfire.

finding snow near Brisbane It’s closer than you think! But remember, the closer the location is to Brisbane, the less likely it will actually snow there this year.

● Over the border into New South Wales, the Northern Tablelands are one of the best places to head to to see snow specifically the town of Guyra.

● The Granite Belt and Darling Downs regions are where snow is most likely to occur in Queensland. Stanthorpe is the perfect base for seeing the snow in this area, and, at just over two and a half hours drive from Brisbane, it’s even manageable in a day trip!

LIKELIHOOD? Pretty good actually. Guyra gets snowfall about five times a year!

LIKELIHOOD? Tell ‘em they’re dreaming 9 out of 10 years, but every so often it really does snow on the Granite Belt. The last time was in 2015, which sounds promising, but before that it was 2007 (we are talking a good blanket of snow). Check here for links to the the Bureau of Meteorology and other helpful snow related information. https://www.brisbanekids.com.au/where-is-the-closestsnow-to-brisbane/

10 | www.brisbanekids.com.au

● Further south down to the Snowy Mountains you can head to resorts such as Perisher or Thredbo. Expect a drive of 20+ hours though, if you’re not prepared to fly. LIKELIHOOD? Their livelihood depends on it, so pretty likely. Whatever decision you make, before you pack up and drive there, make sure you consult the weather bureau and be aware and prepared for the possibility that it may not happen. But, if it does... well... Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
