QUEEN’S JUBILEE WEEKEND On Sunday 5 June, the Harbourside neighbourhood police team took part in the Big Jubilee Lunch on College Green to celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Throughout the day, many public resource packs were handed out from cold calling signs to child colouring sheets. Much of the public engaged with the team with children taking up the opportunity to play cops and robbers in the police van. It was with great joy that the team took part in such an event following the last few years where gatherings were cut short by unfortunate covid restrictions, and are looking forward to the next neighbourhood team meeting.

SUSPECT ARRESTED BURGLARY

FOLLOWING

During the early hours of Friday 17 June, the Apple Store at Cabot Circus was targeted by thieves who attacked the premises. Two suspects initially forced access into the store during the hours of darkness and stole a large quantity of stock. Shortly after, a further three suspects then appear to have committed a second burglary and stole another large quantity of stock before running away from the scene. A keyholder and police subsequently attended the store where a crime scene was secured overnight and CCTV systems checked. Approximately £55, 000 worth of goods are believed to have been stolen during the two incidents.

Efforts are currently ongoing to arrest the second suspect whilst another three suspects for the second burglary remain outstanding. The police are now awaiting the results of forensic submissions. The police would like to remind businesses to make renewed efforts to secure highvalue stock outside of normal business hours and are appealing to the public for further information quoting Niche 5222143047.

Crime scene investigators also attended the location and successfully recovered forensic evidence from the scene. With the assistance of local neighbourhood officers, two suspects from the first burglary were positively identified. One of these was promptly arrested and interviewed. He was later released under investigation.

OPERATION HIBISCUS Over the past 3 weeks, our police force has been conducting an operation to manage the volumes of policing demand through the busiest time of the year and ensure our community is receiving the service from police that they need. The police have also been able to be flexible with resources and where needed re-direct them to manage ongoing local priorities. An example of this has been the response the to high-value Apple burglary mentioned above, and how the police will be flexing this weekend to

ensure resources are in place for the many events being held in the city centre. This is an important time of year to shape to meet demands, and still deliver neighbourhood policing. Neighbourhood Police Inspector Robert Cheeseman is ever more confident in the team’s ability to achieve this. However, should you have any issues regarding the visibility of policing over the next few months please do not hesitate to raise that with your BID or direct with your local policing team.

HARBOURSIDE WATER SAFETY As we approach the warmer weather conditions the central neighbourhood team’s attention turns towards the harbourside and remaining safe around the water’s edge. With the increasing summer heat and later evenings, we have started to see an increase in the public sitting around the water’s edge, enjoying the views and unwinding from the day. With this comes an increase in the danger of falling into the harbour

accidentally or jumping in deliberately, potentially causing cold water shock and leading to fatal consequences. Over the last 2 years, we have had several fatalities in the harbour, especially around the summer months. For this reason, the neighbourhood police teams will be increasing patrols in the local area and reminding everyone of the dangers of the water. This will be conducted on foot, by specially trained boat officers and joined by our mounted colleagues.
