ISSUE 92: 17 October - 13 November 2024
CRIME STATS
Over the past 28 days, the number of reported crimes have reduced from 717 to 691 with public order offences going down from 130 cases to 96 and Violence Against The Person cases falling from 219 to 188 Vehicle offences have also reduced to 17 reported
instances, alongside drug offences, which reduced to 8. Arson and criminal damage cases also fell; however, sexual offences rose from 22 to 31 and thefts also went up from 205 to 240.
Last month, Avon & Somerset Police, National Business Crime Centre, Bristol Business Crime Reduction Partnership, Broadmead BID, Redcliffe & Temple BID and the City Centre BID teamed up for Safer Business Action (SaBA) Week.
The initiative saw these organisations work with the local business community to take proactive action to prevent crimes such as burglary, criminal damage, and anti-social behaviour.
As part of the joint operation, police carried out high visibility patrols in conjunction with Broadmead BID businesses to address crime and anti-social behaviour
Bristol BCRP Manager Carmen Ceesay, Nat Naylor (PCSO), and Broadmead security ranger Andy also conducted visits to local businesses, focusing on awareness, prevention and the reporting of crime.
There was also a full day of well-attended presentations from various organisations, exploring a range of subjects including highlighting the various available services businesses - from bike marking and walk-and-talk initiatives - as well as guidance on crime reporting.
Speaking about the success of SaBA week, Carmen Ceesay said:
"Working closely with Avon & Somerset Police, local authorities, various security partners, and the Bristol
BIDs was vital to making this event happen and achieving our shared goal of a safer business community. By organising various activities across an extended week-long period, BCRP connected with businesses, listened to their concerns, and strengthened relationships with the local beat team."

AN UPDATE FROM PCSO & SCHOOL LINK OFFICER, SHERYN WEMBRIDGE
"Well, what a year! My first as a member of the Neighbourhood Team here at Bridewell Police Station, working as a PCSO on the Harbourside & Hotwells beat. I enjoy the role immensely and the highlights have been many: getting to know the community, the businesses, the schools and colleges as well as members of the street community, and hopefully being a friendly face.
"I have gone into school classrooms and spoken to children from Reception upwards with the aim of making children feel comfortable talking to and approaching the police. One special moment was having a queue of 50 children waiting to take turns sitting in a police car!
"I regularly attend a lunch group for elderly residents in Hotwells. Again, it's an opportunity for them to feel free
to talk and express any concerns they may have in the community. Likewise, I am a regular visitor to both the Central Library and the Cathedral
"A large part of my role is working with businesses, offering words of advice around anti-social behaviour, shop theft and investigating incidents as well as building relationships with staff and management, working together to deter and prevent crime.
"As I enter my second year, I look forward to building on these relationships and continuing to engage with and help the local community
