POLICE, CRIME & ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR UPDATE 13th October - 26th October 2021

CRIME OVERVIEW There have been 302 crimes recorded in the last 14-day period. Two thirds of the crimes recorded are theft and violence against the person offences. The areas with the highest crime levels are Park Street, Canons Road and Broadmead. This is most likely due to the night-time economy and thefts from the retail sector. More people are arrested on Fridays and Saturdays than any other day of the week. People have mainly been arrested for violence, drugs, or public order offences during this time. Crime now shows an increase

of 1.2% over the last rolling 12 months and this is the first time it has increased this year. There have been 127 ASB incidents recorded, with the

MARCH AGAINST MALE VIOLENCE On Sunday 10th October a ‘March against Male Violence’ took place in the afternoon in Bristol city centre. Those attending the demonstration initially met at College Green where the march started. Approximately 200-300 people took part in this event including a number of marshals. Following an initial short vigil, the march took place through the city centre following an agreed route to Castle Park. Many in the crowd sat in Castle Park whilst a number of speeches took place. The demonstration was held to honour those who have recently tragically lost their lives as a result of male violence. Throughout the event the Police remained committed to facilitating peaceful protest and both specialist Police Liaison team officers (PLTs)

and Neighbourhood officers engaged positively with those in attendance, working with them to ensure the event took place safely and with as little disruption to the wider community as possible. The event successfully took place without any significant issues. Avon and Somerset Constabulary recognise the real concerns people have and want to work with our communities to tackle violence against all individuals and always will be, a priority for us.

peak time for these between midnight and 3am. ASB recorded is down 7.8% over the last 12 months.

CHRISTMAS COP SHOP

We know it’s only October but there are just 59 days until Christmas and so even fewer days left for Christmas Shopping. We are starting to turn our attention to how we will support the Business Community, particularly retail, during this time. As in previous years we will have a Christmas Cop Shop in Bristol Shopping Quarter where the public and business community can come and see us. We will be focussing on crime prevention and engagement, and will have lots of literature and

NEW SERGEANT

I am Gareth Pike, and I have recently joined the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team as the new Sergeant. I have 16 years’ experience of both Neighbourhood and Response Policing. I am excited for the new challenge ahead. I have worked within the City Centre for the last 4 years as a Response Sergeant, so the needs and complexities of the City Centre are not new to me. I am looking forward to joining my new team in conducting proactive operations to tackle our recently adopted team’s priorities such as Organised Retail Theft,

information. We will use this as our base for our Christmas Reassurance Patrols and will be aiming to have our “business as usual” police presence supported by at least 4 other officers through each day of December between 1000 hours and 2000 hours. If you have any specific needs or concerns over this time, please do make contact through the BID to raise this and shape our patrols.

Drug Use & Supply, whilst also targeting the associated AntiSocial Behaviour that occurs throughout the city centre. I fully believe in engagement with our communities, both business and residential so I welcome any questions, suggestions, or ideas on how we can improve. I look forward to seeing you soon.
