Bristol su summer party To celebrate the end of an epic journey this year, the old abandoned courtrooms in the city centre will be transformed for a night of colourful delights. Summer awaits you just around the corner, and it’s a dish best served hot! First up, CONGO NATTY & CONGO DUBS will be providing vibrations alongside DUBKASM and Bristol Reggae Society. Flying the house music flag will be Amsterdam’s finest two-piece DETROIT SWINDLE who play b2b all night long with Dutch rising stars FOUK. Kicking it in the final room will be homegrown underground music legend T. WILLIAMS and the tour de force that is Studio 94, to provide you with a whistlestop tour of all things house, techno and disco. What other colours, sights, sounds and tastes are in store on the night – you’ll have to wait and see!
CONGO NATTY Congo Natty has been at the forefront of British bass culture for over 30 years.
Starting DJing at the age of 10 he hit the upper reaches of the charts in the mid-1980's as the Rebel MC with huge hits like Just Keep Rockin' and Street Tuff. By the early 90s he had moved on and was instrumental in the development of jungle, remaining committed to the raw energy of the sound when others later moved to a more polite version of drum n bass. Returning from a spiritual trip to Africa in 2008 he redefined himself as Congo Natty, a process which reached its zenith in 2013 with the critically acclaimed album Jungle Revolution. This put him back at the forefront of the UK soundsystem scene of which he is now seen as one of the godfathers. It's a huge honour to welcome him to Bristol. Big up all original jungle souljah! congonatty.com soundcloud.com/bigdadasound/sets/ congo-natty-jungle
DUBKASM Dubkasm is one of the key players in the international roots and dub movement. They have collaborated with many of the UK’s greats including cult legends such as Aba Shanti-I, Iration Steppas, Levi Roots and Dub Judah. Their music speaks for itself, so check them out if you haven’t already. dubkasm.com souncloud.com/dubkasm
DETROIT SWINDLE Notorious for their energetic DJ sets and relentless roasts (mostly of each other) Detroit Swindle have had just about as many return DJ bookings as they’ve had requests for their comic duo performance. They recently played a sold out gig at Motion, so if you missed them there, this is your chance to catch them live! facebook.com/detroitswindle soundcloud.com/detroitswindle
FOUK Fouk’s first vinyl release on their new label Outplay was met with critical acclaim with brilliant reactions to ‘Stuff Your Dad Liked’ and ‘Cat Lady’. They have been working on a very special live setup, so this should be a pretty spectacular show! facebook.com/justsayfouk soundcloud.com/justsayfouk

Exam advice Our advice team, Just Ask, offer some tips to make your exam period easier. Here at Just Ask, we often talk with students about revision and exams. Here are our top three exam survival tips: 1. Revise in bursts. Between 45 minute bursts of revision, take 15 minute breaks. 2. Eat healthily. Have regular meals with a balanced diet. This helps your energy levels and concentration. 3. Keep active. Active revision breaks boost your energy and help beat stress. And exercise can improve your mood and help you sleep. The University's Sport, Exercise and Health team have a great workout you can do at home: find it at bris.ac.uk/sport/healthyliving. You can also check out the What’s On Guide at bristolsu.org.uk for free yoga sessions and other fitness events. There are more great tips in Just Ask’s Assessment Survival Guide. It’s a short guide that also covers how to prepare, how to revise and where to study. Find it online at bristolsu.org.uk/exams. The guide also explains what to do if you fall ill during exam time (spoiler alert: tell your School, get a sick note, and submit an Extenuating Circumstances form).
