NEW AMSTERDAM THEATRE
Securing one more interview. Fact-checking claims. Listening to unheard voices. Triple-vetting sources. Braving intimidation. Reporting from multiple angles. Ensuring the numbers add up. Asking the right questions. Going an extra 1,000 miles. Following the full story. Understanding the world. The truth is worth it.

WE JOYFULLY CELEBRATE
BROADWAY BACKWARDS AND PROUDLY SUPPORT
BROADWAY CARES/ EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS & THE CENTER
Dear friends, On behalf of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, we are thrilled you have joined us for another edition of Broadway Backwards. There’s a palpable energy that fills the theatre at Broadway Backwards each year. The room buzzes with anticipation around the once-in-a-lifetime performances, and there’s a tangible warmth from the sense of community and shared mission. In this moment in history filled with so much anger, vitriol and inequality, it’s such a pleasure to take the next two hours to share in the talent and love filling this historic theatre, while supporting those within the LGBTQ community and beyond. Broadway Backwards brings together our two organizations to create a safer and more inclusive world. Whether through services for people living with HIV/AIDS or providing resources for LGBTQ youth and those recovering from addiction, Broadway Cares and The Center ensure that essential, life-affirming and lifesaving services are available for hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ individuals and their families year-round. Building and empowering a strong community while advocating for justice and opportunity has been at the core of The Center’s work for more than 30 years. Whether it be through our newly launched advocacy program, our first-of-its-kind youth substance use treatment program or our 275-mile Cycle for the Cause bike ride to raise funds for our HIV and AIDS services, The Center brings together the diverse LGBTQ population of New York City. At Broadway Cares, your support provided for $13.7 million in grants last year to health clinics, food service organizations, emergency financial assistance programs and housing initiatives in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Because of your donations, Broadway Cares also is the single largest financial supporter of the vital social service programs of The Actors Fund, which provide the entire entertainment community with a safety net in times of need or crisis. Thank you for supporting the work of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. And thank you for joining us in the beautiful New Amsterdam Theatre for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening. Sincerely,
Glennda Testone Tom Viola Executive Director Executive Director The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Transgender Community Center
C H O P S U E Y
Dear friends, What a world we’re living in right now. Thank you for taking a few hours off from the constant barrage of social media and news. And opinions about the news. And opinions about those opinions about the news. I hope you will allow yourself to turn it all off and enjoy what this brilliant company of artists and theatre professionals are here to share tonight. Soak up every beautifully sung note, every intimate expression and every silly or clever lyric. This incredible, generous community has come together this evening just for you. Then, go back out into the world and speak up a little louder. Fight a little harder. And whatever you do, let’s be clear that our biggest enemy is one thing and one thing alone: complacency. Thank you for not being complacent and for standing with these two vital organizations Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Center - that offer a backbone of lifesaving support to hundreds of thousands each year. Please keep helping them offer hope to so many right here in New York City and across the country. And always keep a show tune in your heart. With love,
Robert Bartley Director
