Iconic Treasures of Broadway There is Broadway memorabilia so rare, so unique and invaluable that they stand alone. Here are four pieces, signed by legends and now a one-of-a-kind treasure of theatre history. Most fans could only see these under glass or from behind barricades in a library or museum. Each can be yours to hang and display, to share with your admiring friends with pride. A. The First Ever Broadway Bear: Carol Channing You can own the first ever Broadway Bear: the legendary Carol “Bear-ol” Channing as Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi. For 15 years, Broadway Cares auctioned hand-crafted, museum-quality teddy bears honoring legendary theatrical characters and autographed by the stars who made those characters famous. The final edition of Broadway Bears was in 2012. Wearing the infamous pink and red satin gown in which she descended the Harmonia Gardens staircase, this bear is signed by Channing, who passed away in January. The fabric is the actual material used in Channing’s dress in the 1995 Broadway revival, as are the jewels in the choker. The pink overlays are hand-beaded and sequined, and have authentic red fringe, also from the 1995 run. The red feathered headpiece tops off her blonde tresses in an original creation by hairdresser Kevin Maybee. The mouth is the third designed for this bear as Channing thought the first two weren’t accurate enough in size. Grab this charmer “Before the Parade Passes By!” Original Costume Designer: Jonathan Bixby Bear Costume Designer: Charles C. Crutchfield with Jean Evans and Kevin Maybee B. Silver Goblets Given to Gwen Verdon During the Original Broadway Run of Chicago “When You’re Good to Mama, Mama’s Good to You.” These stunning silver goblets were given to the original Roxie Hart, the incomparable Gwen Verdon, by Mary McCarty, who played "Mama" Morton, during the original 1975 run of Chicago on Broadway. One goblet reads “Roxie,” the other reads “Hart.” The back of each goblet reads “46th St. Theatre, Xmas ‘76, Love Mary.” This

one-of-a-kind pair of goblets is sure to “Razzle Dazzle” and is an incredible piece of Broadway history. This lot also includes an original Chicago poster from the 1975 Broadway production. Chicago first premiered in 1975 with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, directed and choreographed by Verdon’s legendary husband Bob Fosse. The name on everybody’s lips was “Roxie” when Verdon was nominated for a Tony Award for the role. Although the original run closed in 1977, the 1996 revival is now the longest-running American musical in Broadway history and continues to shine eight shows a week at the Ambassador Theatre. C. Dear Evan Hansen Prop Arm Cast Signed by Ben Platt and Original Broadway Company “You Will Be Found” “Waving Through a Window” with this prop arm cast from Dear Evan Hansen, signed by Tony Award winner Ben Platt. Worn onstage by Platt in a Dear Evan Hansen performance, the cast features the name “Connor” as written by Tony nominee Mike Faist. It’s been signed by the entire original Broadway acting company, including Laura Dreyfuss, Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones and Will Roland. You can own, “For Forever,” this iconic piece of theatrical memorabilia from this hit Tony-winning Best Musical. D. Ava Gardner’s Personal Phone and Address Book Appearing in 70 films, Ava Gardner is forever remembered as one of Hollywood’s most famous femme fatales. On contract with MGM from 1941-1958, Gardner was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Mogambo, as well as a Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for her performance in The Night of the Iguana. Garnder’s high-profile life included marriages to entertainers Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra, and friendships with Howard Hughes and Ernest Hemingway. Gardner's “little brown book” is a true one-of-a-kind treasure, filled with Hollywood royalty. Typewritten pages detailing people, favorite places and preferred services, this contact book offers an intimate glimpse inside the day-to-day life of this legendary star. Jotted down notes and doodles appear throughout. A handwritten “El Cordobez” appears on one page, referencing famous matador Manuel Benítez Pérez, with whom she had a brief affair. Contacts include exhusbands Frank Sinatra and Artie Shaw, as well as Lauren Bacall, Maria Callas, Bill Cosby, John Gielgud, Gene Kelly, Shirley McLaine, Princess Grace of Monaco and Tennessee Williams, among others. This invaluable collector’s item was donated to Broadway Cares by Rick McKay. Opening Bid: L-11

Hal Prince This magnificent photograph, also taken by Rivka Katvan, features the beloved Hal Prince in rehearsal for the Tony Awards. Prince’s brilliance onstage, in rehearsal halls and from his producing office was matched by the warmth, kindness and generosity of spirit he brought to organizations whose task was the well-being of those with whom he worked and loved. A founding Trustee of Broadway Cares in 1988, Prince’s great friendship and continued support for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS gave us the ability to build the foundation upon which our best work has been done for more than 30 years and will be into the future. Prince, true Broadway royalty who worked on many of the most enduring musicals in theatre history, passed away in July. This portrait was generously donated by Broadway Cares supporters Peg and Gary Wendlandt. C. Theatre Stars of the 1980s From the bright lights of Broadway to the experimental magic of downtown, artists of the 1980s played a vital role in shaping New York City’s theatre scene. In his April 2018 T: The New York Times Style Magazine piece spotlighting the stars who got their start in New York theatre in the decade, two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Jon Robin Baitz said, “You can see them all now as icons, but back then they were like ions in kinetic motion.” Accompanying this article was an incredible photograph by Neal Slavin. This portrait, now framed, is signed by all 21 stars: Joan Allen, Kathy Bates, Stephen Bogardus, Matthew Broderick, Michael Cerveris, Glenn Close with Sir Pippin of Beanfield (her Havanese), Willem Dafoe, Loretta Devine, Harvey Fierstein, Victor Garber, Ed Harris, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Mia Katigbak, John Kelly, Nathan Lane, Elizabeth McGovern, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Amanda Plummer and Mercedes Ruehl. The Warm Glow and Historic Legacy of Broadway Theatres Can Be Yours The Shubert Organization's historic Plymouth Theatre was built in 1917 on West 45th Street. The Plymouth's first production was the play A Successful Calamity. Dozens of better-remembered productions followed including The Skin of Our Teeth, Present Laughter, The Odd Couple, Equus, Godspell, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Burn This, The Heidi Chronicles, Passion and Jekyll & Hyde. In 2005, the theatre was renamed the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in honor of the chairman of The Shubert Organization. The Schoenfeld is now home to the hit musical Come From Away. During recent renovations of the theatre, crystal lighting fixtures that had been in place for decades were replaced. Now one can be yours. A. This elegant flush-mounted ceiling crystal fixture is approximately 13 inches in diameter and hangs 8 inches. Suspended from the vintage embossed brass banding ring are nearly 1,000 crystal beads strung in 60 delicate rows original to the piece. B. This glistening chandelier features more than 1,100 Swarovski crystals cascading from the 26inch tall brass base. It measures 18 inches in diameter and suspends from a 15-inch adjustable chain. The crystals are original to the chandelier. One of Broadway’s largest theatres, the Palace opened in 1913 and quickly became one of the premiere vaudeville houses, attracting performers like Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Ethel Merman. In 1951, Judy Garland signed on for a four-week run at the Palace, fell in love with the theatre and stayed for a record-breaking 19 weeks. Affectionately calling the Palace her home, Garland returned in 1956 for another hit run. In 1967 Judy recorded the best-selling album “Judy Garland at Home at the Palace: Opening Night” live from the Palace. Located at 47th Street and Broadway, the Palace was most recently home to SpongeBob SquarePants and Sunset Boulevard.
