ST. ELIZABETH CELEBRATES 70 YEARS Did you know
Information provided by Deacon Peter Espeut
On August 22, 1943 Mass was celebrated at 8.30am by Fr. George M. Kilcoyne SJ, curate at Holy Cross, in a hired hall on Rousseau Road for the benefit and convenience of Holy Cross parishioners who were residents in the area. Interest in the mission increased; evening services began on October 10 and instruction classes on October 13. Early in March 1944 land was acquired at Ransford Avenue to build a temporary church and school, thanks to the zeal and generosity of George Norman Penso JP. Building operations began in the third week of April 1944 under Fr. Thomas D. Glavin SJ. It was formally declared open on September 24, 1944 by Bishop Thomas Addis Emmett SJ DD. The first Mass there was celebrated on September 25, 1944 at 7:00am with 300 in attendance. A new church was built in 1950; the blessing, dedication, and laying of the cornerstone took place on August 15, 1950 by the Rt. Rev. John Joseph McEleney SJ DD LL. .

Protecting yourself and others from the spread of COVID-19 You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands. Maintain at least a 6 feet distance between yourself and others. Why? When someone coughs, sneezes, or speaks they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person has the disease. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and infect you. Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose by wearing a mask. Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene, you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19. Stay home and self-isolate even with minor symptoms such as cough, headache, mild fever, until you recover. Have someone bring you supplies. If you need to leave your house, wear a mask to avoid infecting others. Why? Avoiding contact with others will protect them from possible COVID-19 and other viruses. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention, but call by telephone in advance if possible and follow the directions of your local health authority. Why? National and local authorities will have the most up-to-date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections. .
Thanks to the local and overseas members of the Men’s Fellowship who contributed towards the following. 1) Installation of internet in the church 2) Digital Video Camera 3) Tripod. We will now be able to continue live streaming from the church. Thanks to those parishioners who continued with their offering while we were not able to have Mass in the church. Thanks to the Production Team, Richard Gunn, Sayoka Salmon and Cleon Richards and also to members of the Church Council who worked assiduously to ensure that our parishioners were not left without experiencing the celebration of the Eucharistic and fellowship in the Passionist Tradition.
