bucks fever a celebration welcome of the arts Dear Friends,
on the cover
On behalf of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, we are pleased to present you with the 2022 Bucks Fever – Celebration of the Arts brochure. Over four decades ago, Bucks Fever was conceived by Chamber members to “Support the Arts through Business.” What started as a small handful of arts events over a short period of time has grown to include a variety of Chamber arts events and well over 400 community wide celebrations of the arts over a 10-month period.
1. Bucks Fever FilmFest
By uniting the business, arts and cultural community, the Chamber has synthesized the very best of Bucks County in order to increase tourism, augment the economic vitality of the region and celebrate the community’s rich, artistic and cultural heritage. Bucks Fever is solely supported by the business community and we thank all of the Benefactors and Patrons for their generous support. Their commitment enables us to give you this publication free of charge and to promote hundreds of arts and cultural events at no-cost to the host organizations. In addition, we distribute 14,000 copies of this “in demand” publication to local businesses, individuals and tourists visiting Bucks County. We invite you, and those you know, to “Celebrate the Arts” by participating in the many events throughout the Bucks Fever season. Your participation enables the Chamber and the many organizations promoted in this brochure to continue the rich artistic and cultural legacy in our community for many years to come!

Nellie McKay Nellie McKay has released seven acclaimed albums, won a Theatre World Award for her Broadway portrayal of Polly Peachum in The Threepenny Opera, co-created and starred in the award winning off-Broadway hit Old Hats, and has conceived and performed musical biographies of Barbara Graham, Rachel Carson, Joan Rivers, & Billy Tipton (named one of the Best Concerts of the Year by the The New York Times). A recipient of PETA’s Humanitarian Award in recognition of her dedication to animal rights, Nellie is an annoyingly vocal critic of endless war, capitalism, and the two-party system that sustains it. Unlike many of his fellow Bravolebrities who have dabbled in music, resident “Vanderpump Rules” showman Tom Sandoval can actually sing. The 38-year-old puts his pipes to use while performing with his new nine-piece cover band, Tom Sandoval & the Most Extras, at venues like Hollywood’s Hotel Café.

“Brimming with ebullience and the joy of making music, Little Melba and Her Big Trombone is a fitting tribute to a trailblazing musician and a great unsung hero of jazz”- Goodreads. Tannahill Weavers The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire driven instrumentals, topical songs and original ballads. Their music demonstrates the rich musical heritage of the Celtic people. The Tannahills have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with a unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. The group has made an international name for its special brand of Scottish music, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. Inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall Of Fame in 2011, they are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage. From reflective ballads to footstomping reels and jigs, the variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.
Kaki King is considered one of the world’s greatest living guitarists, known both for her technical mastery and for her constant quest to push the boundaries of the instrument. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself,” Kaki has released 9 albums and toured extensively, presenting in such prestigious arts centers as the Kennedy Center, MoMA, LACMA, The Met and Smithsonian Design Museum. She has created music for numerous film and TV soundtracks, including “August Rush” and “Into the Wild”, for which received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score. She has performed with symphonies and chamber ensembles, and recorded an album in collaboration with the Porta Girevole Chamber Orchestra commissioned by the Berklee College of Music. In 2015 Kaki launched “The Neck is a Bridge to the Body”, a groundbreaking multimedia performance that toured extensively throughout the world, marking her first foray into multimedia and experimental theater. Kaki’s new multimedia project, DATA NOT FOUND, marks her first foray into experimental theater as she continues to redefine her guitar as a tool for storytelling, exploring contemporary issues like A.I., the natural world, “big data” and personal empowerment. The show will begin touring in 2021. Kaki’s new album, Modern Yesterdays, will be released October 23, 2020. Steve Forbert Steve Forbert’s folk rock career has spanned four decades and counting. His combination of musicianship and authenticity demands notice. From 1978 to 1982, Forbert released four acclaimed albums. Rolling Stone contributing editor David Wild wrote that now or then, you would be hard pressed to find a debut effort that was simultaneously as fresh and accomplished as Alive on Arrival . . . it was like a great first novel by a young author who somehow managed to split the difference between Mark Twain and J.D. Salinger.’ Forbert’s second studio release had his Billboard #11 hit Romeo’s Tune. Recording success vaulted Steve onto a broader musical stage, touring the U.S. and Europe many times over.

Be prepared for some surprises, like a Latin big band approach to Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love”. Spyro Gyra is an unlikely story of a group with humble beginnings in Buffalo, NY who has continued to reach an international audience over forty years, resulting in sales of over 10 million albums and having played over five thousand shows on five continents. The Seldom Scene Since forming nearly 50 years ago, The Seldom Scene has brought both freewheeling joy and immaculate musicianship to their inventive take on bluegrass, offering up spirited interpretations of songs from limitless genres. On their new album Changes, the band sharpens their focus to a highly specific body of work: songs first recorded in the 1960s and very early ‘70s, rooted in the archetypal storytelling of classic singer-songwriters. And in taking on the music of iconic artists like Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt, The Seldom Scene perform a sort of subtle magic: transforming the most strippedbare songs into harmony-rich and elaborately arranged compositions, while wholly sustaining the charmed simplicity of each piece. Lee Ritenour For Lee Ritenour, there
aren’t many ‘firsts’ left to achieve. During his dazzling five-decade career, the fabled LA guitarist has taken his music to the outer limits, alighting on every genre and occupying every position in the rock ‘n’ roll firmament. He’s been an enfant terrible of ‘70s fusion, a crossover star of the ‘80s pop chart, an honorary exponent of Brazilian jazz, and the fingers behind ‘90s supergroup, Fourplay. Ritenour’s accolades include: 45 albums,16 Grammy nominations, Alumnus of the year at USC, Los Angeles’ Jazz Society Honoree (2019), plus thousands of sessions with legends such as Frank Sinatra, Pink Floyd, B.B. King, Tony Bennett, among others. And yet, when he checks the rear-view mirror, the 68-year-old acknowledges he’s never made a record like Dreamcatcher. Weaving tapestries of instrumental guitar and conjuring eclectic moods, the 12 tracks of Dreamcatcher rank amongst the most melodic and tinglingly beautiful in Ritenour’s catalogue. Don’t miss a chance to hear it live in Sellersville! Sellersville Theater 1894 24 West Temple Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960 215-257-5808 | info@st94.com https://www.st94.com/events/lee-ritenour

The album finds him re-imagining a series of standards that are easily identified as lullabies-songs such as “Danny Boy,” “Sweet Baby James,” “Moon River,” among others. While the songs might be geared to younger ears, Broussard’s soulful signature sound, expressive vocals and sweeping orchestration offer a universal appeal for listeners of all ages. Since Webb’s Grammy sweep in 1968 when his own “Up, Up and Away” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” vied for Song of the Year (and “Up” won) to the use of his “Do What You Gotta Do” in Kanye West’s “Famous,” the man often praised as “America’s Songwriter” remains an icon in popular music - and continues to challenge his artistic boundaries with projects like a classical nocturne. His most famous songs are touchstones for a generation yet remain timeless “MacArthur Park,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Worst That Could Happen.” Now in his touring show “An Evening with Jimmy Webb”and his literary memoir, THE CAKE AND THE RAIN (St. Martin’s Press; now in paperback and audiobook) Webb brings fans of his music a unique connection to their favorite songs, revealing the stories behind his hits as far back as his first songwriting job at Motown through a career trajectory that took a teen preacher’s son from a farm town in Oklahoma to the top of his longed-for profession, with pitfalls and blessings in equal measure between. The Everly Brothers Experience Ft. The Zmed Brothers Since 2016, brothers Zachary and Dylan Zmed along with their partner and drummer Burleigh Drummond, have celebrated the pivotal music and history of The Everly Brothers legacy with enthusiastic crowds all across the US and over seas in prestigious venues. They say, “ The music of the 50’s and 60’s are nostalgic for us, our parents raised us all on it, and we feel that the Everly’s contribution is greatly overlooked, especially by younger generations. Our aim is not to impersonate but to do our best in honoring the aesthetics of their iconic sound and in honoring the important role they played in pioneering the rock n’ roll movement, all while having a little fun sharing our own personal story,” and they do just that. Asleep At The Wheel Founded in 1970, Asleep at the Wheel has been part of the American roots music landscape for more than 50 years. Although the band got its start on a farm in Paw Paw, West Virginia, Asleep at the Wheel became a cornerstone of the Austin, Texas, scene upon its arrival in 1973. Inspired by Western swing and honky-tonk country, the band has accrued 10 Grammy Awards. John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary, award-winning musicians - John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals - delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship, incomparable songwriting, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. This is the “high lonesome sound” of American roots music at its finest. Jorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. Herb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass supergroup Old and In the Way. Mark Fain toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years as well as producing many artists in jazz, country, bluegrass and gospel genres. Patrick Sauber is a multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. In a review, the IBMA noted,”There was warmth, and storytelling, and lots of laughter as this fresh band of legends made their debut...but with their expertise combined, you would think they had been playing in this configuration for years.” Sellersville Theater 1894 24 West Temple Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960 215-257-5808 | info@st94.com https://www.st94.com/events/ john-jorgenson-bluegrass-band

Stick Men Stick Men is a progressive rock band created by musicians with extensive experience playing together. Pat Mastelotto and Tony Levin are the rhythm section of the legendary band King Crimson. Mastelotto is in demand all over the world as the premier drummer for progressive rock. Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto, the powerhouse bass and drums of King Crimson for more than 2 decades, bring tradition to all their playing. Markus Reuter plays his eight string touch guitar covering much more ground than a guitar or a bass. And Mastelotto’s drumming encompasses not just the acoustic kit, but a unique electronic setup too, allowing him to add loops, samples, percussion, and more.

Crack The Sky In 1976 Rolling Stone called prog-rock pioneers Crack The Sky “one of year’s most impressive debuts.” Today, 40+ years later, the band releases a new studio album entitled Tribes, due out early 2021. Named by Rolling Stone in their 2015 list of 50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums Of All Time and in Twenty 1970’s Albums Rolling Stone Loved That You Never Heard, the magazine’s review likened Crack The Sky to Steely Dan, 10cc, the Tubes, and said writer/lead singer/ guitarist/keyboardist John Palumbo avoids conventional melodies, preferring to repeat a tuneful phrase and then abruptly break the mood he’s established with something nearly opposite in spirit. “Crack The Sky’s ensemble singing and playing are impeccable. The Quebe Sisters With over fifteen years of touring to date, The Quebe Sisters have delivered their authentic triple fiddle and three-part harmony sound to the concert halls and festivals of North America and Europe. Grace, Sophia, and Hulda Quebe front an innovative Progressive Western Swing band of archtop guitar, upright bass, fiddles and sibling harmony. The Dallasbased five-piece presents a unique Americana blend of Western Swing, Jazzinfluenced Swing, Country, Texas-Style Fiddling, and Western music. The band’s stripped-down acoustic instrumentation breathes new life into seasoned sounds once found in Texas dance halls and honky-tonks. Grace continues, “To us, preserving the tradition of Western Swing isn’t about keeping something alive like a relic. Western Swing has always been about innovation.” Sellersville Theater 1894 24 West Temple Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960 215-257-5808 | info@st94.com https://www.st94.com/events/ the-quebe-sisters

Levee is the 18th and most recent album from iconic bluesman Chris Smither. Deemed one of the absolute best singer songwriters in the world (Associated Press), the album is a brilliant continuation of Smithers 50 year retrospective album, Still On The Levee(2014). Reconnecting with his roots, Smither recorded the career spanning double album in New Orleans at the fabled Music Shed. What resulted were 24 fresh reimagined takes from Smithers vast career with help from some very special guests including the legendary Allen Toussaint and Loudon Wainwright III. This is great material to hear live!

Leo Kottke Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was raised in 12 different states and absorbed a variety of musical
influences as a child, flirting with both violin and trombone, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11. He issued his 1968 recording debut LP Twelve String Blues, recorded on a Viking quarter-inch tape recorder, for the Scholar’s tiny Oblivion label. After sending tapes to guitarist John Fahey, Kottke was signed to Fahey’s Takoma label, releasing what has come to be called the Armadillo record. Fahey and his manager Denny Bruce soon secured a production deal for Kottke with Capitol Records. Kottke’s 1971 major-label debut, “Mudlark,” positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol, as records like 1972’s “Greenhouse” and 1973’s live “My Feet Are Smiling” and “Ice Water” found him branching out with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique. With 1975’s Chewing Pine, Kottke reached the U.S. Top 30 for the second time; he also gained an international following thanks to his continuing tours in Europe and Australia.

Popa Chubby Popa Chubby, born Ted Horowitz, has been hard rocking the blues in his fierce and soulful way for more than 25 years. Over the course of a career that dates back to 1994, he has been a force of to be reckoned with on the guitar, and his tempestuous, soulful playing has never been more powerful. An imposing figure with a shaven head, tattooed arms, a goatee and a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular figures. The Gilmour Project Performs Dark Side Of The Moon The Gilmour Project’s 2022 debut tour will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ‘Dark Side Of The Moon: A Piece For Assorted Lunatics,’ which Pink Floyd first performed in 1972 at The Brighton Dome, UK, a full 14 months before the release of the legendary album. They will perform and explore this masterwork in its entirety, honoring the legendary band. With their focus on David Gilmour’s Pink Floyd repertoire, The Gilmour Project will do a deep dive into exploration & improvisation that only Gilmour could create. The Gilmour Project incorporates musicians whose background is both prog(ressive) improvisational; and, is the only band since Blue Floyd in 2000, endeavoring to take these songs ‘OUT,’ speaking in jazz protocol, without disregarding the cherished classic hooks, licks & musical phrases. Acclaimed musicians Jeff Pevar (lead guitar with CSN, David Crosby, Phil Lesh, Ray Charles), Kasim Sulton (bass & vocals with Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, Meatloaf, Blue Oyster Cult, Hall & Oates, Cheap Trick & Patti Smith), Prairie Prince (co-founder of The Tubes, & drums with Todd Rundgren, Jefferson Starship, Phil Lesh), Mark Karan (guitar & vocals with Bob Weir, RatDog, The Other Ones), and Scott Guberman (keyboard & vocals with Phil Lesh), will take the music of David Gilmour & Pink Floyd to places it has never gone before. The Commission advised and supported aspects of maintaining the health of the Union soldiers, and mustered a largely female population to facilitate in the organization of military hospitals and camps, and established the transportation of wounded from battlegrounds to hospitals and home.
