If a tree falls in the woods,
and it topples over into another tree that displaces a large group of highly territorial raccoons that run amok in a local campground, which causes a family to pack up and leave in the middle of the night, and while driving home in a rush, one of the hubcaps on their station wagon comes loose and rolls down the street, which then hits a large rock on a cliff, dislodging it, causing it to tumble down a hill, where it smacks into a utility pole that tips over and knocks into the flagpole in front of your business that crashes onto your roof and creates a hole that acts like a funnel for rainwater to spill into your building, which results in water damage, is
your business protected?

CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN
by: Kevin S. Putman, Jr. CBCC Chairman of the Board
s I reflect on my first five months as the Chairman of the Board for the Central Bucks Chamber, I am astounded by the TRANSFORMATION. You may have noticed the Chamber has undergone some big changes as we formed a new internal team. Under the leadership of Theresa Fera, each role has been clearly defined with responsibilities and goals set forth. You will meet our warm and experienced team, which is still anchored by our dedicated veteran, Brad Sanders, on the next page. Together, they are laserfocused on learning, collaborating, and charting a path for growth and greater community impact.
If you have had an opportunity to join us for a Link at Lunch, a NET, or a Committee meeting, you feel the energy. Our Events Calendar is packed with opportunities to connect with other business leaders, to learn about topics that resonate with varying audiences, and to exchange knowledge in the spirit of strengthening the community.
ABOUT THE COVER…
AOur Business & Arts Journal will now be printed twice a year in April and October, but Chamber Members will continue to receive news all year long! In February, we launched our Inaugural Issue of our online newsletter, Chamber Vibes, to provide Members with additional opportunities to advertise and see what’s happening in the business community. We continue to keep YOU at the forefront of our thoughts, offering eight publications per year to feature your business.
Moving forward, we will be making a few huge leaps with a shift in marketing strategy, including a fresh logo, a new mission tagline, a new website, and engaging programs and prominent presenters, all in the spirit of supporting local businesses and the community.
The year has started off at a fast past with significant progress already made 5 months into the year. I look forward to watching the Chamber evolve, grow, and thrive!
All the Best,
Kevin S. Putman, Jr. Chief Executive Officer, Penn Color, Inc.
FULL COLOR ADS
In the spirit of TRANSFORMATION, we are so proud to reveal our vibrant new logo and tagline for Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. Although our old logo has served us well for decades, we graciously move on to a modern, creative design which we believe captures the essence of the Chamber. We thought long and hard about this important decision, while selecting the colors, determining the featured icon, and creating a fresh “face” for our brand. Our roots are strong, providing stability and fostering growth for your businesses, so that was an essential component for our design.
Other than the evident beauty of the rich colors in our new logo, did you know they represent innovation, universal harmony, and trust? What a perfect parallel to mirror the path of the Chamber as we consistently strategize to make our organization the absolute best it can be.
Our tagline was also developed with YOU in mind. We work daily to Empower Businesses and Unite Communities. We serve our Members with our main objectives grounded in collaboration, support, and connections. Our mission is to empower our Members to become stronger through networking and engaging to ultimately bring together communities.
Heartfelt thanks to Brad Sanders for his unwavering dedication to the Chamber and his vision in bringing our beautiful new logo to life!

4 THE BUSINESS & ARTS JOURNAL
IN THIS ISSUE
TRANSFORMATION is often critical in any business. No business can stand the test of time without constantly adapting to change. It may involve restructuring staff, redefining goals, integrating modern technology, engaging different audiences, or developing new programs. The possibilities are endless! No matter what the ever-evolving factors are, transformation is inevitable and a unifying goal among our Members to improve or redefine a business.
In this Issue, the transformation at Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce is evident. You will meet the new team who has already begun to quickly make their mark on tweaking existing programs and creating new ones for the future. The President’s Club Legacy Interviews has been added to the calendar this year to recognize industry leaders and their families who have made an impact on their businesses and the community.
You will be introduced to our New Members through our New Member Spotlight page, advertisements highlighting their businesses, and Grand Opening details. We welcome them to our Chamber family as they begin their journey of growth with us.
We will share news about our Entrepreneurial Assistance and Women In Business Committees that continue to lead and educate, offering support to fellow Members. And, it always gives us great pleasure to feature a few of our
Members in the Business Notes section as their contributions make us proud.
In our next Issue, we’ll focus on ENGAGEMENT. Send us a story about a particular way you have engaged with your employees, customers, or other businesses. Perhaps you can offer advice to an entrepreneur or younger business on how to utilize social media for positive impacts or make a recommendation on a better business practice that has resulted in a profitable outcome. The Journal is a fabulous way to share successes and market your business. Please reach out to Kim D’Onofrio with editorial content or to reserve your advertisement space today!
We look forward to ENGAGING with you soon!

to commercial lending. It’s been 20 years in lending, but I continue to have tremendous respect for successful managers.
4.) What are your three pieces of advice?
- Learn from your failures, or in my case, don’t be a manager!
- Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?
- Take your work seriously, but not yourself. It’s OK to have fun at work, even with your customers, when appropriate.
thought that would make a fine attribute of a parent, so my wife and I made sure it was part of raising our daughter and son, in addition to less screaming, it resulted in two amazing adult children who make us proud.
1.) Tell us a briefly about your professional life and who you work for. I’m celebrating 9 years as a Commercial Loan Officer at Harleysville Bank where my role is to provide business owners and real estate investors money to achieve their goals. I help borrowers purchase commercial real estate, such as warehouses, offices and multi-family buildings. Harleysville Bank started in 1915 and serves seven communities in Montgomery and Bucks Counties.
2.) What is your favorite thing about the work you do?
Showing up at the settlement table with millions of dollars. People are always happy to see you!
3.) What is the worst job you ever had?
Many years ago in my 31-year banking career I was a Regional Vice President of retail banking, and was responsible for sales and operations of 18 in-store and brick and mortar bank branches in three states. After several years in that role and a humbling failure, I learned I’m not made to be a manager. I was blessed with the opportunity to transition to a business development role, which led me
5.) What concerns you the most? As a disciple of Jesus, I am concerned about the salvation of friends and family who have not yet found the Lord.
6.) If you could be an insect what would you be and why? I have never been asked this question. I guess I’d be a Preying Mantis… because they eat spiders. I don’t like spiders, although I appreciate their function in nature. On second thought, this may not be the best choice, because I’d end up hating what I eat.
7.) What is your all-time favorite album?
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. I’ve paid for it many times over, 8-track, vinyl, cassette and downloads. (Yes, I appreciate the irony considering my feelings on spiders.)
8.) What book has had a profound impact on you and why?
I know it’s cheesy, but Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” because of one lesson which focused on giving people a reputation to live up to. I
9.) What makes you feel joyful? It brings me joy to teach K-2 children at my church. I have a gift for connecting with children and I put it to work teaching them about Jesus. The second thing that brings me joy is making people laugh. A friend once asked what I’d like on my tombstone: I stated, “He left people happier than he found them.” He said that was perfect for me because he is definitely happier after I leave the room! I don’t tell people that anymore.
10.) What is your pet peeve? When people don’t laugh at my witty comments. (C’mon, you chuckled, right?)
11.) Do you have a favorite hobby and/or collection?
It’s not really a hobby, but I enjoy serving others, whether it’s in our kids ministry, my leadership work with Scouting BSA, or the other non-profit organizations in which I serve. I’m also an avid reader in my spare time. I was not born with the “collectors” gene and don’t have a passion for collecting stuff.
12.) What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
For the first 10 years of my working career after high school I was a CNC machinist. I went back to college late in life and earned my degree and fell into banking doing an internship in 1992. Thirty-one years later I’m still wondering what I’ll do when my internship ends.

For fun, I will throw the answer back to one of the books that inspired my love of reading as a young girl - Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. For me, Charlotte’s Web inspired life lessons about friendship and diversity; the importance of being humble; and love and loss. I still have the first copy of Charlotte’s Web that I read as a girl on my bookshelf- a bit tattered and worn, but well loved.
4.) What is your favorite movie and why?
Like books, there are too many to pick just one favorite!
I do love pshyco-thriller movies: Misery, The Shining, Get Out. I’ll watch anything by John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Stanley Kubrick, Stephen King, M. Night Shyamalan, James Wan or Shirley Jackson.
5.) If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?
I would definitely be a dog, specifically our family dog. She gives love and receives love unconditionally.
9.) What song instantly puts you in a good mood? Three Little Birds by Bob Marley & The Wailers
10.) When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a teacher growing up. In fact, my undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education, but I never taught in a classroom full time. I went right into nonprofit work after graduation and then went on to get my master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership from LaSalle University.
11.) What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
My full name is Amanda, but I always, personally and professionally, go by Mandy.
12.) What are your three pieces of advice?
- Take the chances!
- Assume the best in others.
- Be genuine.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MONEY? DAVE IN DOYLESTOWN CAN HELP!
to meet clients closer to their home towns. The idea was to have at least one office location within easy traveling distance of their client base, so that they could, in essence, come to their clients rather than having their clients come to them. It’s just one iteration of the team’s core philosophy of maintaining personal and long-lasting relationships.
Management, Dave can address them that much more effectively.
“The due diligence and the research on the investment side seems much deeper at Planning Capital,” Dave says. “They also offer cash-flow planning, and not specifically goal-based planning, so you can change with life’s changes.”
Doylestown local Dave Emery spends most of his day answering questions about money. As a Senior Financial Planner for Planning Capital Management, Dave works out of a cozy office space right on East Court Street.
It’s the fourth office the team has opened since 2020, when a year of working-fromhome led them to completely rethink the traditional office model. After reducing the size of their office space in Center City, Philadelphia, they opened up several intimate office locations in Philadelphia, Radnor, and Doylestown, PA and Marlton, NJ
Of late, Dave’s newer clients’ concerns have centered around whether, in the current market and economic conditions, they will have enough money. After years of hard work and saving, will they now have enough to retire and keep their current lifestyle? Will they have enough to educate their kids and take care of aging parents? If a divorce is imminent, will they have enough to accommodate separate lives now that the kids have moved to college?
When addressing his clients’ needs with the support and teamwork of Planning Capital
Dave has had years of experience helping clients manage the costs of higher education, care for aging parents, set and meet retirement goals, and navigate divorces. He holds the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) designation, in addition to his CFP® certification.
Now, Dave is proud to be a member of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, where he hopes to help fellow Doylestown residents manage their wealth wisely and in a way that will set them up for success through all of life’s ups and downs.
CENTRAL BUCKS ROTARY - PEOPLE OF ACTION
Central Bucks Rotary Club members are people of action who get stuff done. The “happy-hour” club meets at The Plumsteadville Inn in Pipersville on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. to explore ways to enrich the lives of other people through local, national, and international projects. On Monday nights, weather permitting, members get together for bike club rides. If you are interested in doing service and sharing fun with like-minded friends, connect with the club at www.centralbucksrotary.com to learn more.
The club’s mission is committed to the unmet local and global humanitarian needs emphasizing families at risk, veterans, and the disabled. Members do their best to positively improve the quality of their lives through the allocation of member and community donations of time and money, while encouraging and fostering the ideal of “Service Above Self.”
Together Rotarians lead and promote change in their own backyards and across the world. A short list of the activities and organizations that they support includes:
- Ride For the Heroes
- Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center
- Bucks County Food Pantry
- The Grace Project
two ways to participate: by sponsoring a banner on the race track, and by registering teams to race. There is no admission price for spectators, so employees are encouraged to participate and cheer on the riders. Get your game on, be creative and come prepared for the excitement.

Hacker, Daniel Noyola, Anthony Schneider, Vanessa Vasquez, Ethan Vincent, and Allegra de Vita, among others.
Philadelphia’s prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts presents Mozart’s Don Giovanni this spring, April 27-May 9, 2023 in Center City, the Main Line and Bucks County. Robert G. Loughery Wins Dealmaker and Dublin Town Center, Deal of the Year by The Philadelphia Business Journal
DUBLIN, PA – MARCH 30, 2023
Every year The Philadelphia Business Journal’s Best Real Estate Deals awards program recognizes the top deal makers and real estate projects in the Greater Philadelphia area. At Thursday night’s awards program, Robert G. Loughery, President of Nehemiah Development Company was named Dealmaker of the Year and Dublin Town Center won First Place as Deal of the Year in the Retail and Hospitality: Retail Development category.
Robert G. Loughery, Dealmaker of the YearWith a vision to redevelop and revitalize cities, towns and neighborhoods, Rob wanted to bring back the “town square” feel to Dublin in Bucks County, something he’s been working to accomplish over the past decade and has finally come to fruition.
Nehemiah Development Co. spent $25 million developing Dublin Town Center on Main
The devilish Don pursues women all over Europe, leaving a trail of broken hearts and shattered lives. A ghostly encounter ensures that this devil gets his due! AVA first presented Don Giovanni in 1986-87 and continued with performances in 2000, 2005, 2011 and 2015 which featured many alumni who have gone on to significant professional careers. AVA’s last production in 2015 featured now rising international opera stars André Courville, Meryl Dominquez, Jorge Espino, Jonas
This production features a special addition - alumnus Griffen Hogan Tracy (AVA ‘22) returns to the AVA stage to sing the role of the Commendatore. Griffen has been seen in previous AVA productions as Colline in La bohème, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, and Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro.
This production will also feature Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition National Semifinalists Yihan Duan and Sahel Salem.
Street, Dublin. Maintaining and repurposing age-old structures, beloved by the community was part of Loughery’s goal to preserve the history and integrity of Dublin, while bringing new life and new businesses to the area. In total, the Dublin Town Center development has been responsible for $40 million of investment in the borough. Economic vitality is something Loughery is no stranger to, having served as a Bucks County commissioner from 2011 to 2020. During his tenure, Loughery led efforts to reorganize the county’s housing, economic and community development departments, which helped lead to new investment in municipalities and improved access to affordable housing for veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Dublin Town Center, Deal of the Year in the category Retail and Hospitality: Retail Development More than a dozen parcels were assembled to create a 17-acre site upon which the Dublin Town Center has been developed. The Central Bucks
County town center, just over six miles from Doylestown, has created a robust mixed-use community that includes 78 Ryan Homes townhomes, a 45,000-square-foot mixeduse building with 30 apartments and 7,000 square feet of retail space, plus several adaptive reuses. Those included are The Square, a former industrial building that’s been converted into offices, retail and dining space, and The Station, a 1930s gas station restored into a brewpub and food hall. Grand View Health also occupies 15,000 square feet of space at the site. The master plan has taken Nehemiah Development about four years to complete and has created a link between Doylestown and Quakertown.

DREAM VACATIONS - VACATION CRUSADERS
re you interested in travel, want to relax, discover, and explore new cultures, or widen your horizon with new adventures? Let’s talk about travel ideas, new trends, and do’s and don’ts when being on the road to new experiences. My name is Helen Amelsberg, and I am a travel agent in the Bucks County/ Doylestown area. I own Vacation Crusaders (vacationcrusaders.com), a franchise of one of the world’s largest travel holding companies, Dream Vacations.
You may have asked yourself why use a travel agent in a time of online availability of just about everything. Think quality and service. Customers realize that the personal touch and the experience make a big difference in enjoyment. Travel Professionals have access to offers that sometimes are not available to the public, and we deal day by day with travel providers to get the best value and customer service for our clientele. In addition, we know about destinations, what other customers have experienced
Aand can help you if you require assistance during your travels. We care about you! Following the pandemic, we have seen a lot of increased pent-up demand in travel, both domestically and internationally, and you may have seen that costs for accommodations and flights have surged. The prime international travel destinations this year are Italy, UK, France and Greece. While availability on some travel dates, especially in summer of 2023, are becoming scarce, Travel Agents may still be able to find you an excellent offer. We have also seen a substantial uptick in other closer travel destinations like the Caribbean, including Mexico, offering good weather year-round with often beautiful blue skies and warm temperatures. Alaska is always a favorite; however, they have a limited season. So, if you haven’t already booked you need to do it now, so you are not disappointed.
Looking for a few travel tips to ease your travel woes this year? Book early and expect to pay more than you did previously and have a plan B as
availability is scarce. Flights are particularly expensive.
Be patient. Travel vendors are overwhelmed with demand, so responses are way longer than normal.
Take advantage of cruise line promotions. They really do help!
New to cruising? Choose a cabin on the lower deck’s midship which helps with seasickness.
Take the first flight out. Those are the least likely to be delayed.
Start shopping for 2024. Lock in your vacation now to take advantage of today’s prices.
Make sure your passports are up to date. You must have a minimum of 6 months remaining from the date of travel. The Passport office is currently taking 10-13 weeks or more for new/renewed passports and 7-9 weeks for those that have been expedited.
