LAUNCHING OF PADIAN.COM

AMIR Consortium Sdn Bhd is a collaboration of four companies, namely Alif Terchnologies, Mimit e-Technology, ISDS & RITS, that have been awarded a tender from the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) for the development for the ‘Buy Brunei Portal’ called Padian.com.

AMIR has created Brunei’s first eMarketing and eBusiness online portal and aims to use the portal as a platform to promote trade and partnership between local and international businesses by providing reliable and professional business matching services both locally and globally for Brunei’s SME’s.

Their target markets are the industry ranging from businesses selling food & beverages to businesses providing environmental services. Ideal customers are businesses that have a proper business license, ready to export or import their products & services locally and globally.

Padian.com offers the same services like ebay.com and alibaba.com, whereby Padian.com caters local Brunei SMEs. It offers 3 categories namely Silver category for small businesses which provide handicraft, food & beverages, agriculture and clothing materials;. Gold category for medium businesses involving ICT, constructions, insurance agencies, travel agencies and

restaurants and Platinum category is for the Oil & Gas industry, Banks, Aviations, Hotels and Multi National Companies.

19 Feb 2010 SOFT LAUNCHING OF E-BUNDA.ORG BAG Networks held a soft launch of their e-Bunda.org portal held at the Theatrette, MOF. The purpose of the portal is to provide a platform in which information can be shared and also to create awareness on issues which are important to women, acts as an avenue in which women are able to develop themselves through on-line learning and also as a platform to build supportive and collaborative network amongst women. e-Bunda is part of Bruneian women initiatives and was a result of initial feedback received from an informal focus group held on 23 October 2009.

14 Mar 2010 MAULUDIR RASUL A high tea was held to mark the Mauludir Rasul 1431. The highlight was a Dikir presentation by members.

26 Mar 2010 HONORARY SECRETARY NAMED The WBC EXCO welcomed Nellie DPH Sunny as the Honorary Secretary. Nellie is no stranger to WBC and is a founding member of WBC when she was the Honorary Secretary (1997-2000) of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam that saw the establishment of a Sub Committee which later became a separate association known as the Women’s Business Council in 2000.

13-17 Apr 2010 KARNIVAL KERJAYA The company belonging to five WBC members in collaboration with MTMS participated in the carnival. They were Musufiya, Bahtera Samudera, Batik Desa Mas, HKH Fastfood and MTMS. Some 146 job seekers/unemployed youths signed up for the WBC Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme during the carnival.

18 May 2010 6TH WORLD ISLAMIC ECONOMIC FORUM, KUALA LUMPUR Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah, WBC President was a panelist in the Business Women forum held in conjunction with the World Islamic Economic Forum.Her participation was sponsored by the organisers.

ASEAN TOURISM HRD PROGRAM

WBC President Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah, Hjh Mordiah, Nellie, Dk Hamdiah participated in the training workshop which was conducted by experts from Korea. Other participants were from the tourism, travel agents and hotel industry.

The training programme was designed at providing basic knowledge to Brunei tourism industry professionals to further improve their services to meet the needs of Korean tourists when they are in Brunei.

The purpose of the ASEAN Korea Centre is to increase trade volume, accelerate investment flow, invigorate tourism, and enrich cultural exchanges between the ASEAN Member Countries and the ROK.

PROCEEDS RECIEVED FROM CHARITY GALA NIGHT

EXCO members witnessed the President receiving a cheque from the proceeds of a charity Gala Night held on 3 Oct 2009.

3 June 2010 OPENING OF 5TH INTERNATIONAL HALAL PRODUCTS EXPO The EXPO was launched by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Dipertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam. The halal expo is to help SMEs break into the world market.

Brunei will strat exporting goods under the Bunei Halal Brand. The first range of products-of snacks confectionaries, chocolates and drinks were unveiled at the expo.

Ghanim has been appointed to handle and manage the marketing of Brunei’s premium halal brand.

5-6 June 2010 5TH INTERNATIONAL HALAL MARKETING CONFERENCE Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah, WBC President and EXCO members participated in the conference.

10 June 2010 2ND CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah, WBC President and EXCO members joined some 50 participants in the workshop organised by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre and led by Mr Stanley Ansong from the Commonwelath Sectreatriat.

16 June 2010 ROADSHOW Nellie DP Sunny. WBC Secretary and EXCO members were invited to the Roadshow organised by the Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak and Brunei BIMP EAGA Council.

Welcoming remarks was delivered by Awg Hj Ismail.

17 June 2010 CHEQUE PRESENTATION Dyg Hjh Mordiah representing the WBC President presented a cheque to the Pusat Ehsan which was received by Dato Paduka Haji Alimin Hj Abd Wahab, Senior Trustee of the Board of Trustees, Pusat Ehsan. It was witnessed by the Board Members from both parties.

The donation was from proceeds collected during a Charity Gala Night held on 3 October 2009 organised by WBC in collaboration with the Sounds of Hope at the Jerudong Amphitheatre.

20 June 2010 WBC CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY WBC is 10 today!. Thank you to all members and friends who had continuously helped WBC grow to what it is today, a strong and committed body representing the voice of our Bruneian women in businesses.

STUDY VISIT TO TEMBURONG

The group led by Nellie DPH Sunny began at 6am from Bandar Seri Begawan by car via Limbang. Upon reaching Bangar at 8am, we were met by Officials from the Temburong District Office who acted as our guide throughout our visit.

Our first stop was at Kg Belais and Buda-Buda inn Mukim Bokok. This village was named the winner of the Bronze Medalist in the National Level Anugerah Kampong Cemerlang 2009 on 13 Feb 2009. we saw the local kuih making, handicrafts made by the women, the fishing ground and chalet facilities.

Our next stop was at the Temburong Heritage, Arts and Cultural Gallery housed in Temburong’s historic building built in 1952. It was opened to the public on 29 March 2008 and is run by the Village Consultative Council while the artefacts are contributed by the local community.

We stopped at the Bangar Tamu before proceeding to the Trandie Marina Resort at Batang Duri. The pioneering local eco tourism facility was built in 1997.
