Andalusia's Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 2, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 02, 1992.
Andalusian Pavilion at Expo 92. Andalusia celebrated on August 2, 1992 its Day of Honor in the Universal Exhibition. The Pavilion of the Host Autonomy dressed up and celebrated its party with a wide repertoire of shows. The regional folklore was represented by all the Andalusian provinces. During the whole day different groups passed through the Palenque. The festival was inaugurated by the Choir of Santa María de La Rábida de Huelva, subsequently giving way to of. cial acts and of cial speeches. Although the highlight of the day was in the patio Ave María of the Monastery of La Cartuja. The greats of cante, baile and guitar met to honor Antonio Mairena.
Flag of Andalusia Under the slogan " Andalusia: tradition and change" , the architect Juan Ruesga Navarro designed a pavilion that would become a compendium between yesterday and tomorrow of a millenarian civilization, which from the Tartessian culture until today had been characterized by To be a region where countless cultures have left their sediments. From a large base of white marble, representing traditional culture, emerged an elliptical base building in sandstone, which represented the elaborate culture. Crossing both buildings appears an inclined cylinder, covered in blue ceramic glaze, representing modernity, the evolving scienti c spirit.
Andalusia Pavilion
The central axis of the building is the large cylinder, which housed during the Universal Exhibition, the main spaces, such as the auditorium, the cinema of three hundred and sixty degrees, the central space of the exhibition, the restaurant and the viewpoint. In the construction of the pavilion, traditional materials such as Macael marble and Padul stone were combined, contrasting with the cylindrical tower, with a ceramic enamel treatment in the traditional blue of Andalusian ceramics.
Sculpture by the Malaga artist José Seguiri. See all the contents of the Andalusian pavilion required to keep two tails; one to see the lm in the Circorama system and the other, to contemplate the other exhibition elements. On the street, and near the entrance door, was the rst sculptural set in bronze, we talk about the work of the Malaga artist José Seguiri. The composition plays with the elements of the Andalusian coat of arms, where Hercules is seen raising the columns while the lions walk around him. The decoration of the lobby anticipated the content of the exhibition << The productive memory >>. A Roman mosaic depicting a Bacchus cult scene. On the ground oor, what most caught the attention of the public was the movie theater at three hundred and sixty degrees. This room that continues today in the pavilion, has a circular shape, with a diameter of about fteen meters and an average capacity of one hundred and eighty spectators. During Expo 92, it had nine synchronized projectors and nine screens arranged in the form of a cylindrical crown on which new continuous images were projected. The lm entitled " Andalusia, tradition and change" , lasted eighteen minutes and showed representative images of the past and present of our region. At the exit of the cinema the visitor was with the exhibition << The productive memory >>. This art show was conceived with a more scenographic than museum criteria. Enchained the phenomenon of miscegenation of Andalusian cultures in the course of time.
Interior of the pavilion of Andalusia with paintings by Guillermo Pérez Villalta. Another room collected pieces from all the Andalusian provinces, from such emblematic gures as the Dama de Baza or the Ephebe of Antequera, to very little-known works such as a Picasso watercolor, painted when he was a teenager entitled << El viejo de the blanket >>. Works of contemporary plastic avantgarde, with paintings by Gordillo, Guerrero or Ribera were found next to some Solomonic columns and close to the drawings painted by Lorca for a book by Pablo Neruda. On the second oor there was a permanent exhibition that answered to the name of << Andalucía, spaces of progress >>. It began with a sample of the principles of industrial machinery, as was the case of the reproduction of a 17th century mill to make snuff. The idea was to show the resources that Andalusia had to cover the future, in elds as diverse as biotechnology, the agri-food industry, alternative energies, telecommunications and the naval or aeronautical industry.
Views of the Andalusian Pavilion next to the Lake of Spain.
It exhibited, among other objects, a wind power generator of Tarifa; the rst parabolic to produce solar energy and an ultralight carbon ber airplane built in the Rinconada. From the room << Spaces of progress >> what attracted the most people was the aquarium. In it you could see autochthonous species of the Andalusian coast. The sh were arranged in independent aquariums and grouped according to a criterion of sociability. The plant that followed was destined to the tourist promotion of Andalusia. The visitor was offered a form of speci c programs of visits, routes and travel circuits.
Andalusia Pavilion Next, it was a narrow corridor where a metal screen partially revealed a machine room of a plane, a workshop; all wrapped up in some sounds between strident and mysterious, that returned you to other times and rather reminded you of movie stories. To end the memory of the Andalusian Day of Honor at Expo 92, we can not forget the fantastic Andalusian Children's Park , the outdoor space in which a miniature creation of the entire region spread over an area of ten thousand square meters, which was distributed in more than eighty models, twenty thousand dolls, about four thousand plant species and all kinds of natural elements, at a scale of 1:33.

The Day of Honor of Cantabria is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on August 12, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 12, 1992.
Cantabrian Pavilion at Expo 92. Cantabria celebrated that day its Honor Day at Expo 92 . The acts that were prepared to honor this autonomous community began with the performance of several mountain folkloric groups of the region through the streets of the Expo site and concluded with a Creole mass of Ariel RamĂrez of. ciated at the Palenque and that featured the performance of the groups of the Coral << SalvĂŠ >> of Laredo and the group << Alturas >>, of Peru.
Flag of Cantabria. One of the most awaited moments of that day of honor was the mountain pilgrimage in the Garden of the Guadalquivir, where a marmitada was offered for ve thousand people. << Cantabria and the festival of the bulls >>, << History of Cantabria seen by seven painters of our region >> and << Prehistory in Cantabria >> were some of the exhibitions that hosted the different exhibition halls of the Cantabrian pavilion.
Logo ag of Cantabria.
The visitors who accessed it in groups of 25 people maximum, could contemplate the rst exhibition << Prehistory of Cantabria >> in the lower room of the building. It presented some photos of the different rock paintings that were found on the walls, ceilings and shelters of the caves of << El Castillo >>, << La Pasiega >>, << The Chimneys >>, << El Pendo >> and << Altamira >> of Cantabria.
The president of Cantabria, Juan Hormaechea, attended the events planned in his pavilion to celebrate the Day of Honor of that autonomous community in the Exhibition, but he refused to preside over the of cial acts together with a minister of the Government, so these were canceled (EFE). From the hand of a stewardess visitors were introduced in the central area of the Cantabrian pavilion: the reproduction of the famous caves of Altamira. The temperature at this point even lowered to about 15 degrees Celsius, one more in relation to the real caves. Other of the great gures of this pavilion was the character Juan de la Cosa, which was not the character that so many smiles started from that television in Spain with the program Un, dos, tres, as many of the visitors believed when approaching until the Cantabrian pavilion, if not of the famous cartographer of Santoña and owner of the nao << Santa María >>.
Interior Cantabrian Pavilion. A reproduction in ceramic of his letter, which was the most representative example of the Castilian cartography, was exhibited on the rst oor of the pavilion dedicated to << Cantabria and the sea >>. The rest of the exhibition room was dedicated to navigation. Ten models of boats, two astrolabes and compasses (navigational tools used years ago) were shown. The most striking of the plant were three original pieces: a wheelhouse, two masterpieces (pieces of boats) and an autopilot. << Cantabria, mar y montaña >> was the name of the documentary, which was screened on this oor with a duration of fteen minutes.

The Day of Honor of the Promise Pavilion is celebrated. Posted on August 13, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 13, 1992.
Pavilion of the Promise in Expo 92. That day was dedicated on the Island of the Charterhouse to the Pavilion of the Promise . The events were attended by the president of the pavilion of the International Promise, David Mainse . The main act of that day of honor at Expo 92 was an integral reading of the New Testament, begun in the early hours of the morning by the Archbishop of Seville, Monsignor Carlos Amigo Vallejo. This international governmental organization was founded in 1986 in Vancouver (Canada), later it was in Brisbane (Australia) in 1988. Its objective was the diffusion of the biblical message through the use of the most advanced audiovisual systems. His performance focused on the opportunity of the International Exhibitions to spread the Christian message. All the Christian confessions could be part, which meant that their message concerns Protestants, Catholics and Orthodox alike. The Promise Pavilion at the Expo had a unique place, with 1,000 volunteers from 22 countries. At the entrance and on a stage, children from many places performed varied songs that were reminiscent of the << Boy Scouts >>. The tour of the pavilion maintained a . xed and directed itinerary of about forty minutes.
Pavilion of the Promise. Four rooms formed the pavilion of the Promise, the rst three formed an audiovisual montage and the last one was made to invite the visitors to pray. This pavilion was built on a two-level construction tent that was based on a large concrete slab. It was located between the pavilions of Romania and Yugoslavia. In its inauguration, the president of this organization, David Mainse alluded to the massive in ux that this pavilion had had in the international exhibitions of Vancouver and Brisbane. However, the success had not been the same in the Universal Exhibition of Seville. save

The Honor Day of the European Space Agency is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 22, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 22, 1992.
Model Hispasat Satellite and Ferry Hermes at Expo 92. The European Space Agency (whose abbreviations in English are ESA), celebrated that 22 of August of 1992 its Day of Honor in the Universal Exhibition of Seville . Despite the fact that space conquest was the last link of the era of discoveries, there were very few pavilions of the Exhibition that included this theme in its contents. The United States notably disappointed by this absence, although Russia showed some prototypes of satellites and objects that showed their contribution in the of. cial race. It was precisely Europe, who had a visible presence on the Island of the Cartuja on this subject, with the << stand >> of Ariane and Hispasat.
European Space Agency. The European countries had joined forces by reducing the delay they had always had with the great powers in space technology. Hence the dif culties that were presented to ESA during those months of 1992 in their different projects. The model of the shuttle << Ariane 4 >> located on the Path of Discovery, has a height of sixty-four meters, which together with the exhibition platform for visitors reached the total height of seventy meters.
Rocket Ariane 4 during Expo 92. The construction company was Maillet, to which they also commissioned the model of the << Ariane 1 >> installed in the Salon de la Aeronáutica de Paris. When the Universal Exhibition ended, this reproduction of the Ariane 4, which cost around two hundred million pesetas, was still installed on the Island of the Cartuja, being the second permanent after that of Paris. The presence of the Ariane at Expo 92, symbolized the mutual relations between Europe, space and discoveries, central theme of the Exhibition. That 1992 was the year that celebrated the V Centenary of the discovery of the American continent in which was the Space Center of Europe: space airport of Kourou in French Guiana. It was also the year of the launch of the rst Spanish satellite by Arianespace. The participation of the different European companies in the ship was shown on the exhibition platform; Among the nineteen companies were the Spanish Casa (Construcciones Aeronáuticas) and Sener.
Hispasat project. The rst Spanish satellite communications system, << Hispasat >> is a public service whose program was clearly national in terms of exploitation and capital, with thirty percent technological participation, << Hispasat >> was designed to offer not only technical services in the matter of television signals, but strategic and economic ones. In this way, Spain did not have to depend on other interstellar organizations, also becoming a source of income.
Model ferry project Hermes in Expo 92. This project was present in the Isla de la Cartuja thanks to the agreement signed in 1991 by the president of Hispasat, Elena Salgado, and the Expo. The agreed agreement made possible the installation of a Hispasat satellite model and an exhibition area dedicated to explain what the Spanish communication system consisted of. It showed original parts of the prototype. save

The Honor Day of the League of Arab States is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 20, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 20, 1992.
Pavilion of the Arab countries. The Arab League celebrated that day its Day of Honor on the Island of the Cartuja, representing the Arab world through this organization. Twenty-one countries and the PLO (Organization for the Liberation of Palestine) occupied one of the halls of the multiple pavilion of Arab Countries, shared with Jordan, Syria and Egypt. With the theme of communication and Hispano-Arab cultural relations, the Arab League had installed a pavilion that connected with the era of the Discoveries. The contributions of the Islamic civilization and the progress in Europe through its civilization were some of the issues that transmitted on the Arab-Muslim history.
Arab League Flag. From the founding date of the Arab League in 1945 to today, the history of the Islamic people has been marked by endless con. icts. The idea of creating this organism had its origin in Great Britain in an attempt to maintain colonial and strategic ties. The Arabs were pioneers in many scienti c disciplines, and contributed with their inventions to the discovery of new routes. The sea and science occupied a large part of the contents of a pavilion that exposed its visitors to the old Muslim culture.
Pavilion of the Arab Countries. From the middle ages, Arab cartographers contributed with their maps in the advance of sea science, including data unknown until that time. All the murals exhibited in the pavilion were photographs of originals preserved in the museums of Istanbul, Leningrad, London and other capitals of the world. Celestial maps, astronomy and mathematics were also elds of research treated since antiquity. The astral phenomena were personi ed in gures of men and animals with names that have remained until today. Navigation techniques and instruments were an important contribution of this civilization. Astrolabes, marine quadrants and primitive compasses were some of the mechanisms used by Arab sailors. The oral and written tradition was present in the history of this ancestral town, which showed during Expo 92 in its pavilion drawings of how their ancestors copied by hand and kept the writings in libraries. The history of culture and scienti c advances was full of men of Arab origin. One of the walls of the pavilion served as the basis for the twenty framed drawings of some of these most representative gures. Most lived in Al Andalus. Or they were Iberian.
Arabic Countries Pavilion. Culture was the center of attention of those responsible for the participation of the Arab League in Expo 92. Not only because its pavilion was a journey through the history of progress, but because of the activities that were programmed during the six months of the Universal Exhibition . While the other countries attracted visitors with playful entertainment, the League of Arab States organized cultural activities. For the representatives of the Arab League in the Seville Exhibition << the tragic events that happened in the contemporary Arab world should not tarnish this scienti c and progress past >>. According to the Director of the ag of the Arab League, Mohamad Tohamy, << the history of Arabs and Spaniards follow the same path >>. save

The National Day of Hungary is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 24, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 24, 1992.
Hungarian Pavilion at Expo 92. Hungary celebrated that day its National Day at the Universal Exhibition of Seville . To commemorate it, the President of the Hungarian Parliament, Gyorgy Szabad and the Minister of International Economic Relations and Commissioner of the Hungarian Pavilion, BĂŠla Kadar, moved to Seville. This country, bathed by the Danube, was living during the Expo 92 the period of transition from dictatorship to democracy, from the centralized planned economy to the market economy.
Pavilion of Hungary. The super. uous had no place in the Hungarian pavilion where the smallest detail was loaded with symbolism. With its wooden frame, its seven towers and its bells, it seemed to have come out of a fairy tale. This and the West harmoniously combined in this unique construction that continues to surprise twenty- ve years later.
Flag of Hungary. The building itself did not keep any exhibition, but was presented as an independent work of art that, with its four compositions of symbols - a narrow corridor, the tree of life, the bells and an audiovisual in which the images were combined with the explanation of Christian spirituality - tried to express the history and current state of Hungary.
Hungarian Pavilion (Photograph by Bruno Barbey). The big queues endorsed the popularity of the Hungarian pavilion. Every fteen minutes about a hundred people accessed inside. Two large wooden doors closed when the last visitor entered. The hostesses awaited the silence of the assembled to give a brief explanation about the meaning of the pavilion.
Explanation inside the Hungarian pavilion. The penumbra and music were faithful companions throughout the tour. After receiving the opportune explanation the visitors crossed a dark and long corridor through which the bombardment noises (real sound) do not cease. It is as if we were between two res, East and West, and the Hungarian nation, represented through the corridor, would be between them. On the corridor the seven towers rose, number of magical force, like symbol of the metaphysical world, outside the sphere of the time. Once crossing the corridor we reach the central hall of the pavilion, with glass oor, which is the " tree of life" , a sixteen-meter oak was found in a forest on the banks of the Danube, in the central part of Hungary. The oak, which is exposed without foliage and with its roots in view, symbolized the ancestral Hungarian religion and history, the depth of knowledge and the close and intrinsic relationship of the people with nature.
The tree of Life remains in the pavilion like the rst day. According to an ancient belief, it was a sacred tree that was planted in the far north of the land to scare away evil spirits. The symbology of the pavilion reaches its highest levels when it reaches this point. The << tree of life >> represents the meeting of two worlds: the real one (trunk and branches of the oak) and the unreal one (its roots) separated only by means of a glass oor, which tries to transmit us a feeling of insecurity.
Interior of the Hungary Pavilion. Effects of lights and sounds invaded the tree in an effort to make us understand the future of humanity. The different stages of a person's life were represented through the intensity of lights, music and human voices. The voice of a small child was beginning to be heard in the room. Immediately the robre lit with a faint light that gave way in just a few seconds to a more intense accompanied by the song of a woman.
Interior Hungary Pavilion. Gradually the music was becoming stronger and stronger as the lights, that arrived at that time, only illuminated with great intensity the rices of the tree, was the representation of the stormy stage of life. Little by little everyone was softening, the light, music, no longer heard voices, tranquility and peace seized our existence, is the old age. The ringing of fourteen bells began to sound, it was the end of the show.
A postcard collected for posterity this fantastic sunset over the Hungarian pavilion at Expo 92. save

The National Day of India is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 15, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 15, 1992.
Indian Pavilion at Expo 92. The India held that day his National Day at the Expo , with a set of protocol and cultural events presided by Minister of Tourism of the Indian government, Kaur Sukhbans, the director general of tourism, Wogesh Chandra and Ambassador of India in Madrid, M. Bhalla. This country, which was on the verge of leaving the Expo 92 project for not receiving the subsidies requested by the Hindu authorities, celebrated its day with the presence of two Indian groups of classical and folkloric music, which performed in the Palenque and the Auditorium. .
Flag of India. The Commissioner of the Pavilion of India, Javed MN, stated that they had forty-eight hours to assemble the contents of the pavilion due to the lack of interest of those responsible for their country and the lack of budget. The building, built by the architects Julio and Cristina Peletzer, stood on Avenida de las Palmeras and was distinguished by the colors reminiscent of the feathers of the Peacock, the national bird of India.
Pavilion of India.
Among the main contents of the pavilion stood out the discoveries that India has brought to the world, such as the zero sign, the negative accounts, the surgical instruments and the philosophy of Gandhi on independence without violence. Hospitality was perceived in the . rst steps of the tour of the pavilion through some images that showed the welcome ritual under the following words: << Day and night I will serve / that will give you good fortune / that is your guest as god / for you >>. A small bronze statue symbolized the three Indian gods: Brama, Bishanu and Sava.
Pavilion of India. The visitor discovered India through large photographs and texts about the thoughts and contributions of the Indian sages to the rest of the world. In the patio of the pavilion a peacock reigned among the traditional fabrics and Indian objects. This country wove the muslin with methods that had been handed down from generation to generation: << the muslin is so ne that it looks like the gossamer gauze >> indicated an inscription.
Interior Pavilion of India. The ornamentation work showed the love for details, which was the height of the miniature painting, as the visitor could perceive thanks to the paintings displayed. Visitors could buy both inside the pavilion and in the small shop that had outside a whole repertoire of silver objects: earrings and bracelets at 2000 pesetas, boxes from two thousand to fteen thousand pesetas. There were also plenty of wood and mother-of-pearl objects and semi-precious stones: boxes of bone, mother-of-pearl and wood from 3000 to 5000 pesetas. Bags, handkerchiefs and cushions were part of the repertoire of the Indian offer.
Interior Pavilion of India. In the pavilion there was also a small restaurant where visitors could taste Indian food. The unforgettable aroma of this land not only consisted of the fragrance of jasmine but also in its dishes cooked with spices as tasty as curry. Dishes made with turmeric, cardamom, ginger, coriander, nutmeg and poppy seed. Â save

The National Day of Indonesia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 26, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 26, 1992.
Pavilion of Indonesia with other Asian countries. Indonesia , a country of exotic islands, celebrated that day at the Universal Exhibition of Seville its National Day on the premises with a pavilion located in the area of countries of the ASEAN (Associations of Southeast Asian Nations), speci. cally with the Philippines, Malaysia , Singapore and Thailand. Indonesia exhibited its contents in the exhibition in a pavilion of six hundred square meters, in which two circular oors were erected. Chromed woods and ebony roofs were the most repeated elements in this pavilion that recreated a typical house in the country.
Flag of Indonesia. One of the protagonists of this pavilion, together with the tradition and products of the country, is the richness of natural resources and their exploitation. The archipelago is full of jungles with a very unique fauna and ora, among which are species that only live there. This is the case of << Kemondo >>, a reptile that measures more than ve meters long and has survived since prehistoric times.
Pavilion of Indonesia. In another of the panels was photographed the largest ower in the East, the << re esia arnoldi >>, a large reddish plant that feeds on insects and gives off a bad smell. Among the landscapes collected were the large tea elds, the rice plantations climbed and the profuse jungles; but undoubtedly the most
spectacular are the volcanoes, some of them erupting, containing in their craters large lakes of colors. But this was not the only thing that was exhibited on the rst oor of the Indonesian pavilion. The past was represented by a bronze map of the fourteenth century that illustrated the routes of Columbus towards << East Holland >>. The present was represented through tourism that was ooded by that increasingly closer future of industry and innovation. On the terrace of the pavilion, as a symbol of union of all times, was located a << gazebo >> or demonstration booth that in this case served to show the art of making << batik >> and wooden sculptures.
Indonesia at Expo 92. The entire second oor of the Indonesian pavilion was a trade exhibition with Indonesian export products and information on foreign investment. A computer was also available to help customers interested in traveling around the country, allowing to obtain printed data. Wood, rubber, wicker and batik were the main materials worked. They showed all kinds of manufacturing, from peppers to travel towels, to toys, toothpaste and kitchen containers. The Hindu dance was the best known show in Indonesia. The theater had a double function: to project mystical dances of the country and to serve as a stage for the Indonesian groups that passed through the Expo. save

The National Day of Ivory Coast is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 10, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 10, 1992.
Plaza of Africa. That day was celebrated its National Day at Expo 92 in the African country Ivory Coast , with a set of cultural and ceremonial events chaired by the Minister of Culture of this country, Henriette Diabate. The day was enlivened by the performances of the National Ballet and the Ivorian singers Aicha KonĂŠ and Allah Therese. More than thirty artists participated in the Palenque and on the stage of Plaza de Africa throughout that day. Those responsible for the African nation were not satis. ed with what they exposed to visitors during the rst months of the Universal Exhibition, for that reason they brought new products to improve the pavilion months after the start of the Expo.
Flag of Ivory Coast. The exhibited products referred to the cultural aspect of the Ivory Coast, represented by textiles, music instruments and examples of the typical habitat of the inhabitants of the Ivory Coast. The economy, agriculture and industrial products made from agricultural products were also exhibited in the pavilion. The multiple kinds of wood and typical handicrafts of the country were exhibited as part of their culture.
Interior Africa Square. A large elephant carved in ebony wood presided over the entrance of the Ivory Coast pavilion, as a symbol of this country. The route continued through showcases that displayed food products such as cassava our, grated coconut, chocolate, coprah cake, milk, seeds, fruit juice and palm kernel oil.
Seal of Ivory Coast. The absence of contents did not prevent visitors with the << passport-mania >> from asking the store stewardess to stamp their Expo 92 passports. Ivory Coast sold some of the products that were exhibited as contents of the pavilion, but the visitor could acquire in the store a great variety of artisan products. Among these objects were hand-made fabrics, African masks and wood carvings. save

The National Day of Kenya is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 21, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 21, 1992.
Plaza of Africa. Kenya wore that gala day to celebrate its National Day at Expo 92 , with a set of cultural events and ceremonies that were chaired by the Minister of Commerce of Kenya, Arthur K. Magugu. The ballet << UmĂŠme >>, whose meaning is << Thunder >>, resonated in the Palenque and in the Plaza de Ă frica, honoring its resounding name. Kenya is a country that lives mainly on agriculture and tourism. In the pavilion of this African country the commercial, cultural and tourist aspect among its main contents was shown. The visitor discovered Kenya through his photographs and the typical items that were for sale in the store of this pavilion. On a monitor, located in a corner of the pavilion, a . lm about Kenya, its landscape and its history was continually projected. This fteen minute projection was an invitation to the visitors to embark on an adventure and contemplate the wonders of these lands.
Flag of Kenya. Kenya had a pavilion on the rst oor of the Plaza de Africa, along with thirteen other African countries. The route began after crossing a wooden bridge that crossed a symbolic river, surrounded by palm trees, coconut trees and other trees that reminded the African jungle. Two giraffes made of wood were hidden among the leaves of the trees. The walls of the pavilion were covered with huge photographs in which the visitor perceived the wonderful mountains, coasts and people that inhabit the land of << the ve largest animals: the lion, the elephant, the leopard, the rhinoceros and the buffalo.
Plaza of Africa. The industrial products of Kenya were present in a large showcase << mainly dedicated to the food and agricultural products that were the most important in this country >>. Tea cans, coffee bags and nuts like the << Macadamia >> stood out among the contents. The << Tusker >> beer , the papaya wine and the pineapple juices were also shown to visitors as part of the most popular national drinks. One of the attractions of the pavilion was the games (like chess) made in soapstone. This stone, similar to marble, comes from << Tabaka >>, from the western zone of Nyanza province. Its multiple colors allowed specialized sculptors to make beautiful objects in colors ranging from dark pink to ivory white. According to the explanations that the visitor could nd about soapstone, he highlighted the importance of this stone that is also worked in other colors after applying a dye.
Plaza of Africa. The wood carvings were present along the entire route; These objects, which represented African animals, were put on sale to the public with prices ranging from 1000 to 35000 pesetas. The ornaments, bracelets and bags made by hand showed one of the main attractions of the pavilion for the female visitor sector mainly. save

The National Day of Singapore is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 9, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 09, 1992.
The Singapore pavilion next to Thailand pavilion at Expo 92. Singapore dressed up that holiday to celebrate its National Day at the Expo . The festivities of this country, unlike the rest of the countries participating in the Universal Exhibition, were not presented at the Palenque but in their own pavilion. Singapore at the Expo had a picturesque pavilion painted in white and blue in which it highlighted its faรงade topped by a << traveler palm >> with the << merliรณn >> in front, welcome symbol next to the white lion who escorted the entrance to the building.
Flag of Singapore. Upon entering the interior, the visitor had the feeling of walking through one of the typical streets of Singapore on a starry night. Shops, parks, restaurants, stalls of Indian or Chinese Malay food and even a cartoonist who made portraits to anyone who wanted it, is what we found on the . rst oor of the pavilion. To the right of the entrance was the store with a wide variety of items. The most curious thing, without a doubt, was the << ointment of the tiger >>, a medicinal oil used in Singapore for the problems of rheumatism, headaches and muscular, stings or burns.
Singapore Pavilion. On the night walk through the streets of Singapore could not miss food establishments. In the pavilion, two services were offered: a small restaurant that served a buffet and the typical outdoor food stalls so famous in Singapore. In these last ones the visitor could taste the << satay >>, the most traditional plate of the island consisting of skewers of sh roasted on coal. A square with gardens and benches, in the center of the rst oor of the pavilion, was the place where you could take a good rest for a few minutes while it was your turn to be photographed riding the typical << trishaw >>, tricycles of pedal. Shopping, one of the biggest attractions in Singapore, also had a reserved space on the second oor of the pavilion.
Singapore Pavilion. A video offered in the pavilion continuous information about the airport of Changi, which in those years was located between the best airports in the world. A stewardess dressed in the typical costume of the country, distributed among the visitors some sheets in which they reported on the new direct ights from Spain to Singapore. save

The National Day of Switzerland is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 1, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 01, 1992.
Swiss Pavilion at Expo 92. Switzerland celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 with a set of ceremonial and cultural activities that were chaired by the Vice President of the Swiss Federal Council, Adolf Ogi . Those responsible for the Swiss pavilion chose the date of August 1 because it was the date on which the Helvetic Confederation would be founded (01-081291). The Swiss pavilion was located on Avenida de las Palmeras, next to the pavilions of Fujitsu and Czechoslovakia. A tower of recyclable and biodegradable cardboard of thirty-nine meters high that rose as the main element of the building in front of the stands of the pavilion.
Interior Tower of the Swiss Pavilion. This building had been conceived by Vincent Mangeat , after meditating on his initial project to bring an ice tower to Seville -which would be melted at that time in August-. Most of the elements of this giant house of cards were made in Switzerland: its cardboard panels were made of a wooden frame . lled with corrugated cardboard and smooth cardboard as a coating.
Flag of Switzerland.
Outside, the works of different artists stood out, such as the large photographs of Balthasar Burkhard, which hung like ags showing the senses of Switzerland. In the wooden stands stood out two large sculptures by Bernhard Luginbuhl, made up of two huge cheese covers << Emmental >>. But what most amused and attracted visitors was a set of six " horns of the Alps" of berglass three meters and a half long, in which the lungs could be tested by blowing loudly to hear the sound of the Alps.
Horns of the Alps in the Swiss Pavilion. The tour of the pavilion showed a small country with an over owing imagination, which began on the ground oor with the dragon sculpture door. This space housed an information stand and the shop or << Kitschosco >> of the pavilion, where visitors could buy the famous Swiss watches, knives and chocolates among other items.
Interior Switzerland Pavilion. A window with a curtain of water showed the daily meaning of life through a photograph of the Matterhorn, which showed the spectacular fall in which four climbers lost their lives.
Cardboard Tower of the Swiss Pavilion. In a display case, objects related to popular customs and traditional music of the country, reminiscent of early Switzerland, were shown. The Oscar was shown in front by the Swiss HRGiger and Xavier Koller. A monitor showed the variety of popular music of Switzerland. In front, as a counterpoint, << Endlose Saule >> (Column without end), composed of several hundred albums, was created by the young Christian Marclay from Geneva. Four Swiss cows, with their own names, such as Diane, queen of the Alpine pastures, remained vigilant at the entrance of the second exhibition area. The visitor could read a sign where on these cows of ght belonging to the race Eringen, of the canton of Valais. A sleigh was exhibited in a showcase, the most requested means of transport to cross the Alps. In front of this showcase was projected an audiovisual show created by the artist Anna Winteler, which showed an artistic re ection on the mountains. Through the superposition of images of the alpine landscape and the waves of the sea they created a unique landscape.
The vice president of the Swiss Federal Council, Adolf Ogi, visits the Expo site together with the Expo's curator, Emilio Cassinello and the Minister of the Cortes Virgilio Zapatero. The exhibition of the second oor to which the visitor could also access through the wooden steps, in a quicker visit, housed works and a reminder of amazing Swiss and Swiss. The National Day of the Congo is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 8, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 08, 1992.
Entrance pavilion of the Congo in Expo 92. The Congo celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 . The Congolese commemorated this day with a set of ceremonial and cultural events presided over by the Minister of Economy of the Congo, Jean Luc Malekat and the Minister of Education and Culture, Justin Kuomba. The Central African nation was present at the Universal Exhibition of Seville with a pavilion in Plaza de Africa, along with thirteen other countries on the African continent. The contents of the Congo pavilion were mainly ebony wood carvings of different colors, made by hand, A large wooden head of more than one meter in height presided over the entrance of the pavilion, with a small ticket that indicated its price: 160,000 of the old pesetas. Copper and wood paintings with daily representations were hung on the walls: a . shing village, a beach, a group of Congolese, etc.
Flag of the Republic of the Congo until 2006. Hundreds of wooden sculptures, carved by Congolese artisans, as the craftsman who was permanently in the pavilion making these carvings, were exhibited to visitors as part of the culture of this African country. These sculptures reminded Glacometti in their elongated and thin forms, although the fact that these gures are like that was not due to anything in particular.
Plaza of Africa. The tour of the pavilion continued beyond the small wooden bridge that crossed a river and introduced the visitor to a typical cabin. This hut, made with wood and dry branches, represented the homes of the inhabitants of the most agricultural areas of the country. In a photograph, the same landscape is represented in that of the pavilion.
Painting exhibited in the Congo Pavilion. On a shelf of this hut were some natural products from the jungle and the Congolese lands: honey, brown sugar, mineral water, coffee and the beer that seduced the Americans. The Ngok beer, recognizable by the crocodile that illustrated its bottles. The entire pavilion is like a store, since all the exhibited items were for sale. The visitor could nd from cotton fabrics with different colors and drawings to a complete set of wooden furniture, composed of table and chairs of mahogany carved. In a showcase the riches of the country were exposed, like the wood, coming from the different trees of its jungles: Wengue, Ebiara, Movingui, Olón, etc; and the minerals: malachite, azurite and quartz. The visitor crossed the bridge again and there was the pavilion shop: a counter where you could buy any kind of adornment (malaguita necklaces, earrings and bracelets) or ebony wood carvings (gray, black and natural) with women's shapes , old people, children or groups of African women and men dancing. save

The National Day of Tunisia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 25, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 25, 1992.
Tunis Pavilion at Expo 92. On that day, the National Day of Tunisia was celebrated on the Island of La Cartuja at Expo 92 , a neighboring country, Tunisia. Geographically and historically close to Spain, it had opted to show a pavilion of marked cultural character, . eeing from the purely audiovisual content that other countries in its pavilions had inclined to. The Prime Minister, Hamed Karuui, represented the country in celebration of its National Day at Expo 92. << Tolerance and solidarity >> was the motto with which this country, the smallest in the Maghreb, was presented at the Expo. Tunisia, which had shaped its cultural and historical heritage through its pavilion, offered a vision of openness and cooperation with the rest of the world.
Flag of Tunisia Four hundred million pesetas had been the Tunisian budget to participate in the Universal Exhibition. Its individual pavilion that occupied a plot of 1,510 square meters, followed the own line of the architecture of the country, with the predominance of the domes, the arcs and the lattices, painted with the colors of the Mediterranean, white and blue.
Tunisia at Expo 92. Two replicas of mosaics, << Achille hunter >> and << Bebe y vivirรกs >>, together with some sculptures, all exhibited outside, was a small sample of what the pavilion enclosed inside.
Sculptures outside the Tunis Pavilion. The sea and the ships, the world of the Nile, religious beliefs and naturalistic scenes, were some of the themes that they presented in the mosaics made centuries ago in the Tunisian workshops and that could be contemplated inside this pavilion during the Expo 92 Although the mosaics monopolized much of the success of the building, it was not, however, what caught the attention of the visitors. Most of them coincided in pointing to two bronze sculptures and, more speci cally to one, << drunken Hercules >>, as the most interesting one, in which Hercules was seen taking his little glasses of more or the other sculpture, the one of << Baco Infante >> were some of the most liked among visitors.
Interior of the Tunis Pavilion. Steles of Carthage, Islamic objects of great antiquity and Punic archaeological remains (masks, knives, coins, jewels), are a review of the historical and cultural wealth of this Arab country, heart of the Mediterranean.
Pavilion of Tunisia. An exhibition of maritime maps and views of Tunisian ports, illustrating the privileged position that the sea had always occupied in the history of this nation, the recreation of the hall of one of its typical town houses and a large screen on which You could see several videos about the main landscapes of Tunisia, they formed the last exhibition area of the pavilion.

National Day of Vanuatu is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on August 18, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 18, 1992.
Island Pavilion of the South Paci. c. The Pavilion of the South Paci c Islands , which was rebuilt during the Universal Exhibition, represented the states of Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The Republic of Vanuatu celebrated its National Day . This country gained its independence on July 30, 1980. Until that date it was a Franco-British condominium. It took the name of Vanuatu, alternate form of << Vanuaaku >>, word bislamo (Neomelanic dialect and of cial language) that means << our earth >>.
Flag of Vanuatu. The rst Europeans heard about these islands through the Spanish explorer Pedro Fernรกndez de Quirรณs, who arrived in 1606 convinced that Espiritu Santo was the southern continent not yet discovered. However, it was James Cook who gave it the name of New Hebrides in 1774. From the explorer's discoveries, the traf ckers took advantage, attracted by the bene ts they could get from the sandalwood traf c in the Chinese market.
Stamp logo South Paci c Islands. The pavilion of the Islands of the South Paci c, reopened on July 30, 1992, was a typical construction that represented a temple, but that after the re remained in a house. The interior of the cabin was composed of four zones: the entrance, like a serpentine corridor bordered by palm trees and strawberries; the house proper, where the importance of shing was staged; the central zone with photographs, articles from before and from now, a waterfall, an arti cial lake and a sample in exhibition of the manufactured products.
Traditional dances in the South Paci c Islands Pavilion. The fourth area was dominated by the store, where totems, coconut soap, coffee and samples of woodwork and basketry could be purchased. As if it were a boat, in the distance, before approaching the pavilion, you could see two masts and a kind of ag that uttered against the wind and without tide. It advertised a corner of the Paci c, but the real ones were called, the ritual drums that periodically resounded. A lake bordered the hut; a palisade also.
Island Pavilion of the South Paci c. Traditional dances could be seen every two hours, coinciding with the average. If something called the attention of this pavilion, it was the human element. The stewardesses carried a red ower, a habiscus, subject to the ear, that made remember the American lms of World War II. The aborigines did their craft work of building boats or drums; the women, with the traditional costume made of hours of coconut and palm tree, did basketry. save

Located next to the Monastery of Santa MarĂa de las Cuevas during Expo 92, the pavilion of the United Arab Emirates , created in the purest Islamic style, represented a replica of the fort of Jahili, a typical building in the city of Al-Ain. This fort, one of the biggest tourist attractions of Abu Dhabi, has more than a century of history and is a faithful witness of the deep traditions transmitted hereditarily through the different generations. Under the theme << the reform of the desert in the green zone >>, this country of the Arabian Peninsula showed the visitors of the Universal Exhibition its cultural and historical heritage, which emerged three thousand years before Christ, with the commercial links laid out in the valleys of the Indus and Mesopotamia, to, in this way, erase once and for all the entrenched conception of the United Arab Emirates as a desert country, exclusively producing oil.
Flag of United Arab Emirates. At the entrance to the pavilion, and following a semicircular route, archaeological objects dating back more than three thousand years were exhibited. Among them were several models of glasses, which indicated different uses of utensils and that are generally described as funeral objects; ceramic vases discovered in the collective tombs of Jebel Ha. t (Al-Ain), considered the oldest known in the Emirates, since they date from the fourth millennium before Christ; and copper objects, such as swords, arrowheads and bows, belonging to the second millennium BC, all made of copper.
Entrance to the Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates. In addition, among the contents were exposed the different models of tombs, among which stood out the typical Ha t burial in the shape of a beehive and with a camera in its interior. Another type of tombs were the collective graves, located in the coastal areas and in the oases of the interior. Concerning the rst millennium BC, different photographs were exhibited that showed utensils, such as jars in the shape of barrels, made with soapstone belonging to the Iron Age; bowls or basin, arrowheads, daggers and axes in bronze, from the cemeteries of Al-Qusais (Dubai). On the rst oor of the pavilion, visitors were introduced to a tour of the customs and ways of life of this Arab population. In this way, one could contemplate the structure of the lounge of a typical store in which visitors were received for coffee. On carpets spread on the oor were the cushions and the table on which the coffeepot or " dallah" was placed and containers where they burned incense to perfume the environment.
Interior pavilion United Arab Emirates. The art of pearl shing is very frequent in this area. The different instruments used for this purpose were exhibited, among which we can highlight the baskets in the shape of a net, << dayeen >>, made with threads and used by shermen to collect the pearls from the seabed.
Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates. Then, down the wooden stairs that led to the lower oor of the pavilion, you could see photographs that illustrated the emerging development of this young country, founded in 1971.
Glass pyramid inside the United Arab Emirates Pavilion.
A large glass pyramid emerged at the center of this exhibition space that re ected a primordial concern for the conservation of nature and wildlife in the area. Many are the animal reserves that provide a safe habitat for the different species of indigenous animals, as well as the prohibition of trade in ivory and turtle shells. save

The National Day of Equatorial Guinea is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 16, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 16, 1992.
Plaza of Africa. All that day was a party in Equatorial Guinea . This Central African country, former Spanish colony, celebrated its National Day at Expo 92 with a set of cultural and ceremonial events chaired by the Prime Minister, Silvestre Siale BilekĂĄ. Equatorial Guinea had one of the largest pavilions (205 square meters) of the joint building Plaza de Ă frica.
Flag of Equatorial Guinea. Nature played a key role in the contents of the Guinean pavilion. An example of this was the exhibition of three ceibas (trees typical of this area of Africa) and two dioramas on natural landscapes of the country that included species dissected as pelicans, snakes, iguanas or ducks.
Commemorative coin of Equatorial Guinea. In the center of the exhibition space a typical country hut had been installed, whose original name is << Abaa >>. It is there where the oral tradition is transmitted, where young people know the history, philosophy and thinking of their ancestors. Each town has its << Abaa >>. The visitor who wanted it could enter the one that was exposed inside the pavilion, sit on its cane benches and take all the photos he wanted.
Commemorative coin of Equatorial Guinea. Textbooks for the teaching of Castilian and Catholic religion (were sold), traditional crafts, paintings, various . gures made in ebony and samples of coffee and cocoa, con gured the rest of the little more than 200 square meters of the pavilion of Guinea Equatorial.

The National Day of Jamaica is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 5, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 05, 1992.
Caribbean pavilion. We remember today the National Day of Jamaica that was celebrated that day in the precincts of the Universal Exposition of Seville. This country shared space in the Caribbean pavilion with the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago and the OESS (Organization of Caribbean States). Jamaica had a small space in a room, which showed through reggae music and the "tourist bus" how to live in Jamaica.
Jamaica's . ag. The country is one of the Greater Antilles of the Caribbean Sea, with a genuinely tropical and uniform climate. The island of Jamaica (which means land of forest and water), is rich in deposits of copper, silver, lead, zinc and iron pyrite; but its main source of income is the exploitation of bauxite and tourism.
Tourist bus in the Jamaica Pavilion. Jamaica at Expo 92 was a great showcase where consumer and leisure products were sold. In the center of the pavilion, protagonist of the room, was the << bus of the tourist >>. It was a coach that served as a trip for visitors to the island. Bob Marley's music was another of the country's hallmarks. A large screen was twelve hours playing music videos of the reggae star that has exported more music in Jamaica. The pavilion of Jamaica unveiled this musical genre as the most genuine symbol of the country.
But the rest of the pavilion was formed by a commercial stand. All the public and private sponsors that had nanced the project for the Exhibition were present.
A large screen was twelve hours playing music videos of reggae star Bob Marley. Crafts were also present in this pavilion with objects of straw, rushes, wood and cochas. All these products were for sale in the << Calypso >> store of the Eastern Caribbean Pavilion.
Interior Jamaica Pavilion. The celebration of the National Day of the Island of Jamaica was a continuous celebration of Caribbean avor. And it is that Jamaica sold an image in the Universal Exhibition with a theatrical language and rhythm of reggae. save

The National Day of Malaysia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 31, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 31, 1992.
Malaysian pavilion next to Indonesia and the Philippines. That day was celebrated on the National Day of a nation in Southeast Asia, Malaysia . Traditional dances, the draw of a trip to get to know this country and the delivery of gifts to visitors was the program of activities that this old English colony had prepared to commemorate such a marked day. Malaysia had invested some seven hundred million pesetas in its pavilion, used the six months of the Universal Exposition as a shuttle to promote its wood, rubber, tourism and especially its national car industries, the << Protom Saga >> .
Flag of Malaysia. Going through the almost 653 square meters of the Malay pavilion, located during the Exhibition on Avenue 1, was an exciting journey through Asian culture. The building reproduced the typical architecture of the country, highlighted by its colorful blue and white. Before entering the interior, the visitor could contemplate the cultural spectacle performed by seven dancers on a rotating semi-circular stage similar to the Kelantenese << Guri Uri >>, a typical scenario of traditional Malay culture.
Malaysian Pavilion at Expo 92.
Once the relevant passport stamping of the Expo was done, on foot and by automatic stairs, the third and last . oor was reached, since the route was made in reverse from top to bottom. Before entering this exhibition hall, whose central content was the garden city of light, Kuala Lumpur (the capital of Malaysia) visitors were welcomed by children (mannequins) dressed in traditional costumes. It is the traditional Malaysian welcome. Kuala Lumpur's industry, skyscrapers, festivals and entertainment venues were shown through photographs, but it was a reproduction of Sultan Abdul Samad's building that caught the attention of the public. Some dancers performed shows inside. Without leaving this plant the public could know the history of Malaysia, past, present and future, by means of the << cultural tunnel of time >>. The same façade of the pavilion, similar to that of the typical Malaysian homes, was reproduced here but at a reduced size. Something that the children liked was the story of Malaysia told by puppets, on video.
Asian pavilions at Expo 92. The Malaysian airlines occupied the following exhibition area that had been presented under the name << Flying the world, joining the global space industry >>. For the end of the tour of this pavilion we must not forget its theater, set in a forest, in which a video was projected on the most characteristic landscapes of Malaysia. And to leave with a better taste, you could taste the typical Malaysian dishes in the self-service pavilion, located on the ground oor. save

The National Day of Bolivia is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on August 6, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 06, 1992.
Bolivian Pavilion in Plaza AmĂŠrica. That day was celebrated the National Day of Bolivia in the enclosure of the Island of the Cartuja. The events were attended by the Vice President of the Republic, Luis Ossio SanjinĂŠs. The exhibition contents of the Bolivian pavilion revolved around the millenary past, the colonial era and the present. Masks and costumes of the different Bolivian carnivals coexisted alongside a reproduction of the Puerta del Sol, pre-Columbian ceramics or Andean clothing. The colonial era was re. ected in a mestizo altar and a sample of silverware. On the second oor a small representation of the most current art of the country was exhibited.
Flag of Bolivia. For Bolivians, the Puerta del Sol has a strong symbolic content. A copy in the Paris History Museum was exhibited inside. It was an agricultural calendar of the rst century of our era. In the center, and covering the portal was the God " Viracocha ". In his hands he had two rays, a symbol of his power, and they shed tears from his eyes, which was a feeling of fertility for the elds. The idea of the pavilion was to show Bolivia in its unity and in its diversity, mixing the sacred with the pagan and representing, in a sculpture, the slogan "union between two cultures".
Plaza de América at Expo 92. Two blocks of Comanche stones were joined with a bronze bow. From the colonial past, a mestizo baroque altar from the 17th century and two paintings were exhibited: the " virgin de la leche " by Melchor Pérez de Holguin, from the potosina school and the anonymous mestizo "Arcángel Bachiel" from the 17th century.
Commemorative stamp of Expo 92 in Bolivia. The goldsmith work in silver counted with several stands. Among them, he highlighted a Santiago hat, a censer, pins, two beautifully carved boxes and a sevenarmed candelabra from the 19th century. Next to the Oruro masks were three watercolors representing the city of Potosí, the Jesuit missions of Chiquito and the city of Sucre. These three sites were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The most curious thing, however, are the costumes of the stewardesses dressed in typical Andean costumes, and carnival costumes. The objects that were sold in the two stores of the pavilion came from the Bolivian Federation of Small Industry, an organization that grouped all the country's artisans. Aguayo fabrics in backpacks, purses or short vests coexisted with jerseys and alpaca bedspreads. There were also instruments of Andean music such as " zampoña ", " tarka " or " moseño ". save

The National Day of Cameroon is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 3, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 03, 1992.
Cameroon was located inside the Plaza de África in Expo 92. The nation of Cameroon, known as "Africa in miniature", celebrated that day its National Day at the Universal Exposition of Seville, chaired by the Secretary of State for the Development of Industry and Commerce, Luis Mare Abogo Nkono . The acts were led by a performance of the . fteen members of the National Ballet, who performed at the Palenque and on the stage of the Plaza de África. The Republic of Cameroon was present at Expo 92 in a pavilion inside the Plaza de África building, together with twelve other African countries. The objective of this country was to make itself known and that all visitors knew where Cameroon was located. A country, in the heart of Africa, whose territory extends from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Tchad.
Flag of Cameroon. A picture of the Head of State and President of the Cameroonian Government, Paul Biya presides over the entrance of the pavilion. The visitor found in this pavilion a multicultural, artistic country and very open to the world, thanks to its ease of communication with the United States and Europe because English and French are the of cial language. A big lion << indomitable >> according to the label, showed the presence of this animal in the reserves and tourist areas of Cameroon. << The lion meant a lot to the inhabitants of Cameroon, because in addition to symbolizing the courage of its inhabitants, it represented the name of its soccer team >>.
One of the icons of Cameroon, the Lion. One of the main attractions of the pavilion were the small miniature huts that represented the architecture of the country, made with mud and straw mortar. Pygmy huts, which were located in the south-west of the country, could now be found in regions such as Gabon and the Congo. In the showcases were exhibited objects of art carved in bronze and wood, like bronze bells typical of the western region of Cameroon.
The huts of the pygmies in Cameroon. In a large photograph was a group of men, dressed in white robes, who came from the northern half of the country. Along with these images were typical objects that were used in religious ceremonies. Among them stood out the carved pipes and horse tails that are used in rituals and dances. The typical African costumes were exposed throughout the pavilion. In this pavilion, traditional ornaments of Cameroonian men and women were displayed: bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc., as part of the country's culture.
Typical costumes from Cameroon. These objects were made from shells and shells, which were formerly used as an exchange of money. Among the household objects were some wooden utensils, such as plates and bowls. Some agricultural instruments were also exhibited. The visitor found in the pavilion several examples of natural plants and primitive medicinal products, which are currently incorporated into modern medicine and are even exported to Europe. Among these medical inventions was the "Sirop Gamma" of Dr. Wandji, which served as a diuretic, tonic, anti-in ammatory and to cure infections. African music was fashionable among American and European singers, and in this pavilion they devoted an entire showcase to traditional music instruments: the drums, the Mvet (very popular in the center of Cameroon), the cithare and the balafon.
Mvet (string instrument) Ancient harp from southern Cameroon. The Cameroonians had brought to Seville the typical and natural products of their country, among which there was no shortage of palm wine, jams and coffee. save

The National Day of Estonia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 28, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 28, 1992.
Pavilion of the Baltic Republics. Estonia celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 with a set of ceremonial and cultural events that were chaired by Estonian Prime Minister Tiit Vahi and Economy Minister Olari Taal. The music group << Leigarid >> livened up the day of honor of Estonia in several scenic spaces of the enclosure. Estonia was present at Expo 92 despite the dif. culties caused by the rapid political changes that were taking place in his country after the proclamation of the transition period of the now defunct Soviet Union in Estonia.
Pavilion of the Baltic Republics at Expo 92. The pavilion of the Baltic Republics, which was located on the Camino de las Acacias (in front of the Pavilion of the Arts), was distinguished by its large white tent that hosted Estonia, Lithuania and symbolically Latvia, as this Republic was unable to participate at the Expo. The interior of the large white tent had been decorated by the artist Ando Keskkula, who was also Deputy General Commissioner of Estonia. Among the contents of this pavilion was the obsession to show the attempts of the Soviet army to repress their right to self-determination. The two Baltic Republics present in this pavilion had distributed their contents throughout it.
Flag of Estonia. The route began with the Estonian national section, in whose central sector a metal platform had been installed, from which emerged nine lithic bases (construction material historically used in this country for different buildings), which recalled those of the Estonian windmills.
These nine pillars nished off with television monitors that continuously projected cultural, national videos, et cetera. On one side of the platform was an extension of the same stones, which evoked the ancestral history of Estonia. The rays of light that came from the ground symbolized the desires for freedom of humanity, and the red line that divided this space, the fty years of fear and pressure that this people had experienced. Before arriving at the area that housed six female mannequins with suits from different Estonian regions, the visitor contemplated a piano of great quality. This piano and its chair were for sale to the public, for 975,000 and 22,500 of the old pesetas, respectively.
Views from the Avenue of the Pavilion of the Baltic Republics. The national dresses of the six mannequins stood out for their colors and details. All showed a sterling silver ornament, cloth hats and sashes hand-woven by the women of each region. These mannequins were displayed among iron bars that resembled the oppression suffered by this town. Among the contents of this pavilion, the leather gures from the Art Museum stand out. These works represented curious gures, such as box-shaped ngers, legs, hands and curious shapes with animal shapes. Eight works of modern art by two Estonian artists, Eve Kask and Anu Duurak, also stood out in the Estonian pavilion. save

The National Day of Nigeria is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 27, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 27, 1992.
Africa Square in Expo 92. Nigeria celebrated that day in the precincts of Isla de la Cartuja, its National Day at Expo 92. The of. cial delegation was chaired by the rst lady of the country, Maryam Babangida , representing the president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida . With this motive the Pavilion of Nigeria organized a series of cultural and informative events where they showed the different aspects of Nigerian life. The historical heritage of the country was present through the exhibition << Treasures of Nigeria >>, and the cultural one with samples of crafts, music and traditional dances.
Flag of Nigeria. Among the contents that this African country had brought to the Universal Exhibition was the exhibition << Treasures of Nigeria >>, a journey through ve different cultures over two millennia of artistic tradition. The exhibition consisted of sculptures in terracotta, bronze and ivory dating from the 15th to the 19th century. The contents exposed expanded the partial image that Europeans had of Africa. The art of Nigeria could be traced back to the " Nok" culture , which developed between 500 BC. C. and the 200 d. C. Despite its antiquity, terracotta sculptures have such an advanced and complex style that it was dif cult to believe that they represented the beginning of an artistic tradition, and the possibility that this culture is even older than what one might suppose the found objects.
Plaza of Africa. The " Igbo-Ukwu" civilization of the 9th and 10th centuries was represented in the Nigerian pavilion with decorated vessels and with costume jewelery made with the process << cire perdue >> (lost wax). The style was unusual. The culture << Ife >>, which ourished between the 12th and 13th centuries, had left as a legacy bronze and terracotta sculptures representing heads and gures of the nobility. The style of the pieces was so naturalistic that they could be considered portrait. The quality of the works placed this culture at the level of the naturalistic pieces of ancient Greece, the European Renaissance and dynastic Egypt. The civilization << Owo >> of the 15th century was represented in the exhibition << Treasures of Nigeria >> with terracottas that maintained the tendency of the << Ife >> style. The courtly art of the << Benin >> culture that remained from the 15th to the 19th century, was the one that had contributed the greatest number of bronze and ivory pieces from all Black Africa. save

The National Day of Pakistan is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 14, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 14, 1992.
Pavilion of Pakistan in Expo 92. We left to the memory of the National Day of Pakistan , a country that had serious dif. culties of time to nalize its ag since the ship that contained the structure of the building set sail at the end of the year of 1991 of Pakistan and did not arrive at the Expo until January of 1992 . The pavilion of Pakistan had the motto << Discover the civilization of Moenjodaro and Gandhara >>. This is a very ancient civilization, dated around 2500 years before Christ, found by an expedition of archaeologists near the Indus River.
Flag of Pakistan. << Moenjodoro and Gandhara >> occupied the center of the room, crowned with a small dome lined with rich fabrics with ten thousand small mirrors. The replica of the bust of a priest king on the model of the millennial city, showed the archaeological discovery of this civilization. The pavilion of Pakistan was conceived as a large bazaar, where products were hung and stacked in different stalls. Each of them was attended by a salesman who explained to the visitors what they could nd and buy. These positions offered mainly crafts and typical souvenirs of the country.
Pavilion of Pakistan. They were sold from textile manufactures to furniture, including jewelery, vases and cushions. But undoubtedly, the carpets was the most characteristic of this bazaar. There was a varied exhibition in which they could be found with a price that oscillated between six thousand and two million pesetas. All these rugs were handmade by the artisans of the pavilion, who taught the art of weaving in a basting of
carpet located in the pavilion.
Pakistan in Expo 92. The only audiovisual elements in the room were two televisions: one of them reproduced the opening ceremony of the Aga Khan hospital, a spiritual leader for the Muslims; the other presented the silk route to China, accompanied by music videos of national singers. And it is that Pakistan did not bring to the Universal Exposition the presence of a country of innovation and modernity, but of a commercial town that was still living the life of the market.
The giant of Pakistan. But without a doubt, the best known of this pavilion was << the giant of Pakistan >>. Mr. Nawaz, as he was called, was one of the tallest men in the world, two and a half meters tall. Every day he stood at the entrance door to welcome his visitors, as he did at the Brisbane and Tsukaba Exposition. He worked from noon, and always with good humor and affable character, he was often fatigued by the hours and the heat he endured daily.
The giant of Pakistan dances during the national day of his country in Expo 92. In any case, he was a very popular character in the Expo that made friends with the workers of other pavilions. When he nished his daily journey, the giant went to the Pakistani restaurant to dance folk music of his country with << the dancer of the bowl >>. This eighty-year-old dancer was also one of the attractions of the pavilion, which consisted of holding a bowl with water four meters high, holding the balance by swinging bells hanging from his wrists and ankles. save

The National Day of Senegal is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 19, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 19, 1992.
The Senegal pavilion was located in Africa Square. Senegal was the country that celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 . For the occasion there was a set of ceremonial and musical acts chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Senegal, Djibo Ka. Despite the well-known economic problems experienced by African countries, Senegal made an enormous effort to dignify, as much as possible, its presence at the Expo. The scarcely one hundred and forty square meters of surface of the building of Senegal, located in the joint pavilion Plaza de Africa, offered a limited but quite representative idea of the scienti c, cultural and economic potential of the country. To gain space, the pavilion was divided into two levels. Tapestries, stuffed animals, samples of marine fauna (also dissected), ritual masks, musical instruments, a stand with the country's export products (cotton, peanuts, honey, canned tuna, phosphate, chemical products, medicinal herbs and leather) ), were part of the . rst exhibition level along with two areas that showed the hope and sadness of a people who for many years lived under slavery.
Flag of Senegal. The rst of these exhibitions consisted of a set of paintings, which could be considered paintings-denunciations, of Senegalese painters who won the grand prize of the President of the Republic for the Arts, << With the exhibition of paintings, we wanted to convey a very speci c message : the suffering of the people of Africa throughout history and the suffering that may continue to suffer today due to the not very generous treatment that was receiving >>. << Discover a country: De GorĂŠe al Universal >> was the name of the second exhibition. GorĂŠe was, for a long time, the point of departure of the black slaves towards America, and therefore a symbol of the painful history of the slave trade and slavery.
Plaza of Africa. Scienti c research also reserved its space in the pavilion. In this framework, an exhibition of Senegalese patents was presented. << The aim of these inventions is to demonstrate to public opinion that Senegal reached an important level in terms of research >>. The scienti c exhibition had been a success, according to the Commissioner of the Senegal pavilion. One of the purposes of Senegal in Seville was to make known to the public opinion, through the conference << Bakari II and Christopher Columbus to the discovery of America >>, that already in 1312 an emperor of Mali (Africa), Bakari II, undertook with shermen of Senegambia the crossing of the Atlantic. The desire of Senegal during the Universal Exhibition was to recognize the existence (prior to Columbus) of the transatlantic African navigation and to demonstrate the scienti c and historical relationship of the voyage of Bakari II and that of Christopher Columbus. save

The National Day of Gabon is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on August 29, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - August 29, 1992.
Plaza of Africa. The photograph of the Head of State of Gabon, Omar Bongo , presided over the entrance of the pavilion. Gabon celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 with a set of cultural and ceremonial events that were chaired by the Prime Minister of Gabon, Casimir Oye Mba. This African country animated the Palenque during its day of honor with the performance of the musical group << Adia-Iss >>, which at night would perform that day also at the Gabonese Gala, accompanied by the RTG Orchestra and the singer-songwriters Vickoss Ekondo, Pierre Claver Akedengue and Angéle Assele. Gabon was present at Expo 92 with a pavilion on the ground . oor of Plaza de África (the rst that the visitor saw when entering), along with thirteen other African countries.
One of the characteristics of the pavilion was the reddish wooden oor. On these wooden boards stood out at the entrance a mountain of stones and a large carving of ebony wood, a symbol of protection in traditional ceremonies. Next to it were large photographs of Gabon children and landscapes on a structure of wooden sticks tied with leaves of trees, which represented the elements with which houses were made in rural areas.
Gabon memorial pin for Expo 92. On the walls of the pavilion, the visitor was discovering Gabon through gures and indicative texts. << The Gabonese jungle is a continent where 85% of the territory was occupied for centuries by elephants, panthers and other animals >>.
Gabon Pavilion. These lands were later occupied by the Pygmy men, then by the Bantu and later by the Fang, whose concave masks were known throughout the world. On a wooden shelf stood out packets of << Rubber of hevea >> and a box with pieces of wood from different kinds of trees. He also highlighted some models that represented the industry of this country: a ship that transported trunks of trees and next to it a factory. One of the most successful spaces of the pavilion was the area that housed three monitors that projected a documentary, << The colors of Gabon >> fteen minutes long, which thanks to headphones could be heard in three languages: Spanish, French and English. Among the contents stood out a wooden display with the drinks that were made in Gabon. save
