The National Day of Cape Verde is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 7, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 07, 1992.
Cape Verde was located in Africa Square. The archipelago of Cape Verde , located 455 kilometers from the west coast of Africa, commemorated that day its National Day at Expo 92. His presence in the Universal Exhibition had a clear goal: to become known touristy around the world. Its building, with an area of ninety-four square meters, was located on the ground oor of the joint pavilion of Plaza de Africa , which brought together fourteen other countries d sub-Saharan area of this continent.
The ag of Cape Verde was adopted on September 22, 1992. Cape Verde, in addition to showing itself as a tourist potential, re ected its historical references fundamentally through its craftsmanship and music, << re ection of the soul >>, for Cape Verdeans. Its small pavilion was divided into three exhibition spaces: an exhibition of old and modern miniature cars made by hand with used cans; an area dedicated to the typical crafts of the island, where wicker and ceramic items were shown, and a loom used for the manufacture of the traditional cloths of this African area; and a part destined to the music, so strongly rooted to the customs of Cape Verde, in which a collection of guitars of different sizes was exhibited.
Seal Pavilion of Cape Verde. He also had a store that had a great advantage, and that was that you could haggle. Some of those items that he offered us were coffee sets, earrings, wicker baskets, vases, among other items. Cape Verde prepared an extensive three-day musical program to celebrate its National Day. The traditional music and dance groups << Finka Pe >>, << Simentera >>, << Paulino and Vieira >> and << Finacon >> performed at the Palenque.
Paulino and Vieira participated in Expo 92 with their music. The day was chaired by the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Carlos Wahnon Veiga. save

The National Day of China is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 15, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 15, 1992.
China pavilion at Expo 92. China , the most populous country in the world, celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 . The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of China, Tian Jiyun, presided over the commemorative events held during the day of honor of the Asian country, among which highlighted the performance of the group of songs and dances of Gansu. The Jining acrobats group completed the cultural program of China. The Chinese pavilion, despite being one of the most popular among the public, received an average of 18,000 visitors during the week and some 40,000 during the weekend.
Pavilion of China. This pavilion was not one of the largest in Expo 92 nor did it contain a large number of objects, but the pavilion of the most populated country in the world opted for a quality presentation to compensate for the small amount.
China at Expo 92 The visitors that passed through the main entrance, were with a wooden cover painted happily, very << Chinese style >>. The reception atrium had a magni cent silk tapestry embroidered with the Great Wall of China, in imperial style.
People's Republic of China ag. The pavilion was directed by Commissioner Liang Xinghua, it was divided into four themes. One is the samples of the scienti c and technological cultural achievements of ancient China and the Middle Ages; another was the Chinese garden; the third was dedicated to Chinese advances in the eld of science and technology; and nally, there were demonstrations of Chinese artisans, next to the shop: embroidering tapestries following the technique of "double-sided embroidery", painting, and carving stone.
Entrance Pavilion of China. The garden that was inside the pavilion was a typical imperial garden similar to those that can still be found in their country of origin. With its arti cial hills, made of natural stones, it had a kiosk decorated with some poetry written in Chinese characters, from which a bridge was led to a musical fountain.
Interior pavilion of China. The current rockets used by the Chinese to launch their communication satellites into space are an example of the modern technology shown in the Chinese pavilion. Regarding the Chinese contribution to humanity, four major inventions stood out: the production of paper, printing, gunpowder and the compass.
Interior Chinese pavilion.
Each had played a role in the "discovery", both for the Chinese within their own continent, and for the Europeans in their travels during the fourteenth, fteenth and sixteenth centuries. Of all the contents of the pavilion, the most striking were the terracotta gures of the tomb of Qin Shi Huang and the wooden replicas of two ancient bronze instruments dating from 626 and 755. The exhibition was completed by a bronze replica of a chariot drawn by four horses. One of the objectives of China in the Expo was to boost tourism. For this he chose a lm entitled << Landscapes of China >>, through which were shown for more than fteen minutes more picturesque places, the historical relics and the ancient constructions that are found along the 9.6 million square kilometers of the People's Republic of China. save

The National Day of Colombia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 30, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 30, 1992.
Pavilion of Colombia. The celebration of the National Day of Colombia on the Island of La Cartuja was attended by the 1982 Nobel Prize for Literature, Gabriel García Márquez , where he presented his book "Twelve Pilgrim Stories" in the Colombian Pavilion itself. The presence of Colombia in the Universal Exhibition was manifested in manifestations of diverse nature. In the exhibition << The Gold of America >> he presented a large representation of the Quimbaya treasure. The Colombian Pavilion, inscribed in the Plaza de América building, stood out in principle for the prevailing darkness, an essential element to be able to see the numerous videos that were projected on the current situation in the country.
The Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez during the presentation of his book in the Colombia Pavilion of the Expo 92 (EFE). Audiovisuals and spaces dedicated to the public predominated in the Colombian pavilion. The second oor was a kind of traveling kiosk where you could taste seated the most typical drinks of the country. The rough Colombian emeralds attracted the interest of the visitor. Upon arrival, the visitor came across a projection on << The Gold of America >>, where the image of the pieces exhibited on the second oor of the Plaza de América building could be seen >>.
Colombia's ag.
The animistic motifs, or representation of the ora and fauna made in gold, overlapped with the real models from which they were abstracted. This was possible because the audiovisual was projected on a screen of three translucent fabrics and another retro-projection. The simultaneous projection of two panoramic audiovisuals and nine video screens was combined on the front and on the sides. They were visible from any angle of the pavilion. The pre-Columbian ceramic sample that was exhibited in the pavilion consisted of 28 pieces. The criterion followed for their selection had been the aesthetic value of the containers.
The Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, accompanied by the general commissioner, Emilio Cassinello and the president of the Fifth Centenary, Luis Yáñez (EFE). Two raw emeralds were exposed in two security cabinets. One of them was listed as one of the ve most important emeralds in the world. It weighed 351.13 grams and was property of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia and was extracted in the deposits of Coscuez, located in the central area of the country. Colombian coffee tastings brought visitors together. The hostesses served about 6,000 coffees a day, which gave an average of 600 glasses distributed every hour. The coffee that was exported had the denomination of << soft Colombian >> and the main clients, by volume of consumption, were United States of America, Japan and Europe.
Juan Valdés, the image of coffee in Colombia, also visited the Colombia Pavilion. Another of the great claims of the Colombian delegation in Expo 92 was the show of << La Chiva >> in the Cartuja campus. Each day towards two routes; one that left at 11:30 and another at 16:30, leaving from the main door of the Plaza de América pavilion. In Colombia, the << chiva >> is a typical bus that was used for public transport and goods between departments.
La Chiva was a real show at the Expo. The << chiva >> circulated at a speed of two kilometers per hour, which allowed the public to climb or descend according to their convenience. Inside, they danced to the rhythm of the hostesses and Colombian music. save

The National Day of Cuba is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 27, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 27, 1992
Cuba Pavilion at Expo 92. Its building, with a rectangular plan with three levels, was built on an area of about two thousand square meters. The pavilion is the work of Sevillian architect José Ramón Moreno and the decorative elements were typical of Cuban quarries, although some had been brought from Cádiz, due to their similarity. The tour of the pavilion began on the ground oor, presided over by a replica of the symbol of Havana, << La Giraldilla >>. The rst statue of << La Giraldilla >>, cast in bronze by Gerónimo Martín Pinzón in 1634 and placed in the tower of the oldest surviving Ibero-American fortress: the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, located in the Canal de la Puerto de Havana.
Cuban ag sticker with Curro and Giraldilla. The exhibition area dedicated to the achievements of Fidel Castro's government was presided over by images and phrases of Fidel Castro: << Only those who ght are respected. Only those who ght win. Only those who resist >> succeed. Another message read like this: << That ag, that sky, this earth, we will defend it at the price that is necessary >>. The exhibition showed gures on the state of education, investment programs, the infant mortality rate, sports, tourism and economic plans of Cuba, illustrated with images and videos. The entire process of developing the country was described.
Flag of Cuba. The route continued along the ground oor of the pavilion, with a oor paved with cobblestones of granite stone, as if it were a plaza in Havana. The visitor was upon descending a great image of the revolutionary leader Che Guevara, where it could be read: << And another generation responded to the call of the libertarian campaign and the de nitive victory; culminated the feat that in 1868 initiated the founders of the Fatherland >>. The exhibition placed the visitor back in time, highlighting the images of the First Ibero-American Summit held in Guadalajara, with large photos of Fidel Castro with His Majesty the King, Felipe González, Manuel Fraga and Rafael Alberti.
Pavilion of Cuba. In the center of this plant were several showcases that contained dishes of the Cuban nobility with images and shields of marquises and counts. Some copper objects showed the importance of these mines in Cuba. The tour continued through a space dedicated to the << Medical Sciences >>, showing in three spaces: high technology, orthopedic materials and pharmaceutical products. In this space demonstrations were made to visitors of the use of computers that serve to make electrocardiograms and vertocardiograms, by digitizing the image.
Fidel Castro during his visit to the Cuba Pavilion. One of the most memorable moments of this pavilion was the preparation of the famous cigars in the pavilion by the hand of Cuban cigar maker Jesús Lara who had spent his entire life dedicated to the art of wrapping the leaves of the << Solanaceae >>, plant with the that "tobacco" is scienti cally known and that during the Expo it carried out daily demonstrations of the laborious task of creating a cigar cigar of the highest quality. save

The National Day of Ecuador is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 17, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 17, 1992.
The Ecuadorian pavilion was located inside the Plaza de AmĂŠrica. That day was celebrated on the National Day of the Republic of Ecuador on the Isla de la Cartuja. Ecuador showed at Expo 92, its customs and its nationality since before the Discovery of America. For this, Ecuador had brought a selection of original ceramics, and pieces of pre-Columbian gold, some of which were the rst time they were exhibited, together with the Custody of the Cathedral of Quito and a sample of contemporary painting. The contents of the Ecuadorian Pavilion focused on three periods: the pre-Columbian world, the jewels of the colony and an exhibition of contemporary painting that included currents such as pointillism, expressionism or neo gurativism. A symbiosis between the past and the present, which showed 6,000 years of sensitivity. 80 percent of the pieces on display were the rst time they left the country. The promotion of tourism, the conservation of species in the Galapagos Islands and a craft shop, where you could buy the typical Montecristi hat, all this and much more made up the Ecuadorian participation in the Universal Exhibition of Seville.
Ecuador Flag. Under the theme " Ecuador, a synthesis of the world in the Andes" , the contents of the pavilion re ected the efforts of a country with scarce economic resources, for being present in the Universal Exhibition. The syncretism of cultures was evident with a very successful selection of the most representative of each trend. In the antechamber of the pavilion, a sculptural group composed of indigenous people from the Ecuadorian highlands re ected the will to survive of these peoples and the cultural symbiosis. These gures represented the musician; to the devil's head, which symbolized the Andean duality; the dancer, who represented the wealth of the old cacique or the << azuchico >>, loaded with bells to scare away evil spirits. At the entrance were << The Lords or Giants of Bahia , one of the primitive sculptural representations that involves more mystery. They are portraits of gentlemen of rank dating from 200 to 700 AD They were discovered seventy- ve years ago, when a tsunami occurred in the north of the country uncovered a display of gures located in a row and facing the sea.
Giants of Bahia. The << room of the discoveries >> offered an overview of pre-Columbian metallurgy and ceramics. The delicate work of gold and the representations of ceramic objects allowed us to understand the high level achieved by cultures such as the << chorrera >>, << Valdivia >>, << bay >> or << manteña >>.
Manteña Culture of Ecuador. The area dedicated to ceramics exhibited objects related to navigation, animals, fruits, anthropomorphic representations and scenes of daily life. The next room, called << The jewels of the colony >> had as its most outstanding content the sample of silverware from the 17th century. The centerpiece is the Custody of the Cathedral of Quito, corresponding to the Creole Baroque. In its composition, 25 kilos of gold and silver and a total of 1,600 emeralds were used.
The president of Ecuador, Sixto Durán, visited the pavilion of Ecuador at the Universal Exposition of Seville, after his election in August 1992 (EFE). The contemporary Ecuadorian plastic expressed the evolution of painting from the rst current of national af rmation; the indigenismo of the 40s. This pictorial current was a form of expressionism where the indigenous person stops being an object to become the subject of the work and where his problematic was re ected, with markedly dramatic overtones. At the exit of the Ecuadorian pavilion, a sample of the feather art of the tribes of the Amazon and ornaments used until approximately seventy years ago could be contemplated. save

Japan , the world's greatest power at Expo 92, celebrated that day its National Day presided by Prince Naruhito , heir to the throne, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry of Japan, Yuuji Tanahashi and the general commissioner of the national section of Japan and president of the multinational Sony, Akio Morita. The Japanese, who always took the universal exhibitions very seriously, had invested in the one in Seville, nothing more and nothing less than seven billion pesetas and another thousand for the exhibition contents.
The crown prince of the imperial throne, Naruhito, visited, in a quick tour of the Expo, the pavilions of Spain, Andalusia, Japan, Venezuela, Fujitsu and Mexico. (EFE) Japan did not only have an investment well above the average of the participants but also with a great experience in international exhibitions. In fact it was she who held the previous Monographic World Exposition before that of Seville in Osaka 1970 and the International Exhibition of 2005 in Aichi.
Japan's ag.
Sixty-seven Spaniards and thirty- ve Japanese were responsible for serving the public kindly and friendly. If the hostesses of the pavilion untied something, it is because of its " original hat" , something similar to an inverted cup. The hat representative of the Chon Mage style symbolized the hairstyle of the ancient samurai, a hat that you can see these months in the commemorative Exhibition of the XXV Anniversary of Expo 92 in the Pavilion of Navigation.
Hostesses dressed in the famous uniform cap of the Japan Pavilion. The uniform, modern version of the traditional kimono, was made up of a full suit with purple miniskirt and a light green short sleeve jacket, which were accompanied by a bag, a fan and the famous hat, all designed by a designer luxury, Jun Ashida, creator of the designs of the Japanese imperial family, uniforms of the Olympic Games of Tokyo of 1964 and those of the Expo of Osaka of 1970.
Prince Naruhito, heir to the throne of Japan, climbs the escalator of the Japan Pavilion. (EFE) The pavilion of Japan was undoubtedly the pavilion best known to Sevillian citizens and one of the rst on the list to be visited by the foreign public.
Three hundred three Japanese gures of people at the entrance of the pavilion. Three hundred and three Japanese gures of men and women, young and old, representing the Japanese people of today, helped to make the wait less long until they reached the pavilion. In each of these life-size photographs, reviews of different scenes of Japanese daily life were given. The symbolism of Japan began at the entrance when crossing the "taiko bashi", the arched bridge, which introduced the visitor to the upper oor of the pavilion.
Pavilion of Japan. A seated image of Nyorin Kannon Bosatsu, replica of the existing one in the Chuguji temple, one of the oldest in Japan, and a << Misoshi >>, a portable sanctuary used in the Shinto festivals, were the letter of introduction of the Japanese pavilion . And from the religious tradition to the art of << Kinari >>, the natural, the simple, the not arti cially colored. Simplicity and purity represented through an origami or origami exhibition, performed by master Akira Yoshizawa. Origami is a traditional entertainment in Japan, consisting of the creation with paper, without using scissors or glue, of three-dimensional gures.
Origami display of master Akira Yoshizawa. The second oor of the pavilion was dedicated to the formation of the Hiragana alphabet, one of the three writing codes used in Japan. This process of absorbing foreign cultural elements adapted to Japanese culture was shown in the room through computer-generated graphics. Upon arriving at the third room, visitors met with the 16th century Japan. The Japanese expeditions to Europe were represented by the replica of the ship << San Juan Bautista >>, which sailed from Japanese waters on October 28, 1613, and by a copy of the certi cate of Roman citizenship given to Hasekua Tsunenaga in 1615 during his visit to Rome.
Pavilion of Japan. The life-size reproduction of the two upper oors of the Azuchi castle was considered by visitors to be one of the pavilion's jewels. Eighty Japanese carpenters and craftsmen worked for ten months in the castle's full-scale construction. Later twenty- ve of them moved to Seville to make the nal assembly of the work carried out by assembling the different sheets of wood without using a single nail.
Life-size reproduction of the two upper oors of the Azuchi castle. The interior of the reproduction, of red color, was decorated with paintings of the samurai period and two screens of six bodies valued at 200 million pesetas. The Azuchi castle, with a height of 46 meters and seven rooms, was built in 1579 by Nobunaga Oda, a warrior who uni ed Japan after the time of civil wars.
Room on the sixth oor of the Azuchi Castle in the Japan Pavilion. In the fourth room of the pavilion the classic Japanese design used in the articles of the daily life was shown; fabrics, plates or fans. Holographic images, lasers, computers and optical ber technologies, showed the most current art of modern science, were collected in the last exhibition hall of the pavilion. It was the only reference to technological Japan but without neglecting the line that had followed along its almost four thousand meters of exhibition: the symbiosis between Japanese nature and tradition.
Interior Japan Pavilion. Next to the pavilion shop was the restaurant, with a capacity for eighty people and with a decoration in the purest Japanese style. Just as three centuries ago the Japanese continued to prepare their meals adding a touch of originality. The raw sh or more known as sushi was the most demanded in the restaurant.
Escalators of the Japan Pavilion. One of the main attractions of the pavilion was its revolving theater, located outside the building. Its ve rooms, with eighty-six seats each, formed a perfect circle. During twenty-seven minutes, the visitor made a complete turn without leaving his chair and with built-in headphones were watching a combination of cartoons, real lming and computer graphic design, its protagonists of this original story were well known by all Spaniards: Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. The Cervantes characters traveled through time in the hands of a ninja named Sasuke.

The National Day of Australia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 18, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 18, 1992.
Australian Pavilion at Expo 92. Australia celebrated that day itsNational Day at Expo 92, with an extensive program of performances and ceremonial acts chaired by the Australian Tourism Minister, Alan Grif ths. The Minister of Foreign Trade, John Kerin and the President of the Government of South Australia, John Bannon, were also present at the events. The Commissioner of the Australian Pavilion, Douglas Mc.Clallad, would point out days before the opening of the Universal Exhibition in Seville, which after having hosted the Brisbane Exhibition 1988, it was signi cant that Australia participated so actively in Seville, which became the largest and last Universal Exhibition of the 20th Century.
Flag of Australia. The Australian pavilion was located on Avenida 1, next to the Puerta de Italica, on an area of more than ve thousand square meters. The visitor identi ed this building by the huge canvas colored with ancient, aboriginal and contemporary designs that surrounded its exterior facade of the pavilion.
Pavilion of Australia. Australia was present in the Island of the Cartuja with a pavilion of ve plants, that had dimensions of seventy meters by thirty and seven meters of surface and twenty- ve meters of height. The contents of the pavilion had been established with the theme " Australia: discover, explore, experiment" so that visitors could better understand the way of life, its attractions and its people. The visitor began the journey through ramps on whose sides the contents were exhibited. The ground oor housed the exhibition dedicated to discovery, prehistory, colonization and its unique geological formation.
Entrance to the Australian pavilion. A large sphere of the world placed visitors through colored metal ribbons on the road from Seville to Australia. It was the only nation in the world that occupied a continent by itself. Throughout the tour they showed different fabrics, some tapestries, a landscape and aboriginal sculptures on the sand. A twenty-meter image showed Lake Mungo, an ancient habitat, along with the rst maps of Australia.
Australian interior pavilion. Also exhibited some objects of the rst European settlement and images of immigration after the Second World War. The visitor climbed the ramp and suddenly found the lush green of a tropical forest, the chirping of parrots and the sound of water. The visitors perceived Australia as the rst explorers saw it.
The famous ramps of the Australian pavilion. Among the tree species there was << Dickonia Antarctica >>, a species of fern fteen meters high and over seventy years of age that need a lot of water and are only reared in Australia. The forest, animated by seven rainbow parrots and the jets of water that fell from the fth oor of the pavilion, was one of the areas that most attracted visitors. The sound of the seven parrots enveloped this small jungle. Contemporary Australia was exhibited through three monitors, fashion and sport. The Australian coast and the great diversity of the Barrier Reef off the northeast coast of Australia were present through an aquarium seven meters long by three wide. More than one hundred multicolored sh of nine different species swam merrily among the coral reefs. The sh used to be grouped by families and had a thousand and one colors.
Aquarium inside the Australian Pavilion. The visitor continued the journey up the ramps, whose sides saw curious aircraft sculptures made with engines and cans. A sky covered with stars housed the exhibition dedicated to the Australian industry, and also remembered that 1992 was the International Year of Space. Several monitors projected images of boats, along with a model of a modern catamaran that crossed the waves, the << Incat 87 >>. The visitor then entered one of the most interesting areas of the pavilion, which showed the history of the exploration of Australia and its natural resources. Among the relics was displayed a plate of << Vlamingh >> dating from February 3, 1697, belonging to the Dutch navigator Willen VI, who discovered the dish of Harbog and replaced them by this.
Australian interior pavilion. The tour continued through the exhibition of "Argyle" jewelry that dazzled thousands of visitors daily. These jewels, whose brilliants came from the famous Argyle mines, had been created by several designers from all over the world, including Spain, the United States, the rest of Europe and Asia. The route continued down ramps to the room that housed the 360 degree oor and hexagonal shape of the Expo.
Cinema 360 degrees of the Australian ag. The movie theater had six screens arranged in a hexagonal shape and had a capacity of six hundred seats with sheepskin covers. The eight-minute lm entitled " Experience Australia" had been shot with cameras suspended in balloons, helicopters or on boats that were crossing a river at high speed. The screens surrounded the spectators and through a set of images they were surrounded by natives who smiled with their spears held high.
Exhibition of Jewels in the Australia Pavilion. The visit to the Australia pavilion of Expo 92 ended with the store, which presented the largest export of genuine crafts from Australia. In this way the visitors nished the tour of the pavilion with a good impression of certain characteristics of this country so far from Spain.

Galicia's Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 22, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 22, 1992
Galician Pavilion at Expo 92. The land of the Apostle Santiago celebrated that day his Day of Honor at Expo 92 , with a set of ceremonial and cultural events presided over by the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Manuel Fraga Iribarne . Among the activities to commemorate this day of honor, Galicia delivered to Seville a "cruceiro", the work of the Ferrolan sculptor Guillermo Feal. The fourmeter-high Cruise, made with one thousand nine hundred kilos of Lugo granite, was installed that day between María Auxiliadora and José Laguillo streets in the city of Seville.
Flag of Galicia. The participation of the Autonomous Community of Galicia in Expo 92 was re ected in a pavilion of ephemeral nature that would later be transferred to Santiago de Compostela. Galicia took advantage of the Universal Exposition of Seville to promote the meeting << Xacobeo 93 >>, in which all the sectors of the Galician society had turned.
The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Manuel Fraga, walks visiting the premises of Expo 92. The pavilion of Galicia was located next to the Lake of Spain, between the pavilions of Asturias and Catalonia. The building, designed by the architect José Antonio Franco Taboada, was distinguished on the Isla de la Cartuja by a large prism of steel and glass, erected on stone, in which the Galician materials are
combined, such as Lugo granite, PorriĂąo rose and the Orense slate, together with glass and special steels.
Galician Pavilion. The chosen technique, by means of the stone cladding of the facade, wanted to make clear its possibilities to move within an advanced architectural technology. Two sculptures, one by Galician Silverio Rivas, << Arbotante >> (1991), made in granite Rosa de PorriĂąo; and another by Francisco Leiro, << Colchoneta >> (1991), presided over the entrance of the pavilion.
Model of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in the Galician Pavilion. On the main oor there was a huge model of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela that hung from the ceiling by seven steel cables. This work, of eight hundred kilos, had been made in polyester in 1.25 scale. This model was made following the same plans as those exhibited in the "Small Europe" of Brussels, located next to the Atomium, in the grounds that housed the Universal Exhibition of 1958.
His Majesty King Philip VI visited the pavilion of Galicia as Prince. The route continued on the right side, on whose walls photographic panels with images of the Camino de Santiago were exhibited. The photographs were of Romanesque bridges, cruises, churches, monasteries, etc. In a display case, a seated Apostle, with the staff in the shape of "t" and the crown, was exhibited. This gure, of Gothic style, belongs to the rst half of the 19th century and is identical to that of the High Altar of the Cathedral of Santiago.
Interior pavilion of Galicia. The visitor continued for a space destined to the Galician Television, that emitted newspapers from the pavilion. These professionals issued to all Galicia the current status of the pavilion and the Universal Exhibition. At the end of the tour of the rst oor, the visitor could see on the left side the original Botafumeiro of the teacher Losada, dating from 1851. A staircase led the visitor to the ground oor of the pavilion, where the current Galicia was displayed, through showcases containing products from the most advanced Galician industries. The oor of this plant was made of slate. The Galician industry was represented in images, some of which coincided with the showcases. Cerámica de Sargadelos, soaps from La Toja, models by Galician designers Roberto Verino and Adolfo Domínguez, Ferrol shipyards, Pescanova preserves and Loviño precooked dishes. The visitor could contemplate a wide selection of Galician products relating to fashion, jewelry, leather, handicrafts, agri-food, industrial and high-tech products.
Galician Pavilion. The tour of the Galician Pavilion continued on the third oor of the pavilion, where a permanent exhibition of contemporary Galician painters was presented. Between the exhibited works they emphasized: << Or martyrdom of Cuauhtémoc >>, of Daría Alvarez; << Presencias >>, by Xosé Artiaga; << Grail >> by Berta Cáccamo; << Gaia >> by Tono Carbajo; << Arco de vella >> by Xosé Freixanes; << ST >> of Menchu Lamas; << Cara y Cruz >> by Antón Lamazares; << Green e bermello >> by Din Maramoro; << Orixe e desenvolvemento >> of Great Spiral no road that takes to a star of Manuel Moldes among others. save

Retevisión , the one in charge of transporting the conventional and high de nition television signals of the Universal Exhibition, both inside the venue and abroad, celebrated that day its Day of Honor . From the fourteenth of April of that 1992, Retevisión offered to television networks around the world more than 1,000 hours of transmission of images of the Universal Exhibition of Seville. And in its television studio in European standard a total of 612 hours of recording were made in this rst high de nition studio in Europe.
Retevisión Pavilion at night next to the pavilion of the Future and Torre Bador Viewpoint. The Retevisión building at Expo 92 was designed by the architect Horacio Domínguez López , with a strong geometry and contrast, combining blind and hermetic volumes with glazed and transparent elements. The volumes are organized in two large pieces: the prismatic block of of ces and general access, of clean and glazed geometry, and the massive enclosure of the interior and exhibition rooms, which form a hermetic and closed block.
Antenna Retevisión. It also highlights the Communications Tower, designed as a cable-stayed mast of conical shape, which offers the whole an emblematic gesture about the technological nature of the pavilion.
Retevisión logo during Expo 92. The building during Expo 92 offered three differentiated areas: a study of television production in High De nition, in European standard, of 400 square meters, the rst of its characteristics that was built in the world; an exhibition tour from the rst television equipment to the latest audiovisual technologies; and, nally, a showroom for high-de nition television productions.
Retevisión communications tower at Expo 92. In the pavilion the Center for Switching and Control of Television Signals was located in Expo 92. Retevisión was entrusted, exclusively, with the transportation and distribution of all the television signals -conventional and high de nition- generated by the Universal Exposition of Seville. As well as those that were received in the enclosure. Retevisión developed its contents around the theme << The technology of television >>, conceiving itself as an attractive, didactic and participatory space. Currently the pavilion belongs to Canal Sur Televisión, which continued to use the pavilion after the closing of the Exhibition as well as its initial use where projects related to telecommunications technologies were developed. save

The UTE-Energy Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 2, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 02, 1992.
Interior Energy Pavilion. The Energy Pavilion celebrated that day its day of honor in the precinct of La Cartuja. This pavilion was located in the Plaza del Futuro, where the pavilions of the Universe, Telecommunications and the Environment were also located. This thematic pavilion had been built by the State Society and nanced by a private project, the result of a consortium between 58 companies belonging to the oil, gas and electricity sectors. This sponsoring group responded to the acronym of << UTE >> ( Temporary Union of Energy Companies for Expo 92 ).
Energy Pavilion in the Plaza del Futuro of Expo 92. The idea of this group was to convey an affordable message about the role played by energy companies at the dawn of the 21st century. At the same time, it served as a meeting place for people and institutions related to the energy sector.
Pavilion of the Future. The basic theme of the pavilion was the relationship between energy and quality of life. The objective was to give a serious and at the same time entertaining vision of the world of energy in current life and the alternative of new sources that gave rise to the contents of the exhibition.
The visit to the pavilion began in the upper part, to go later descending. The entrance gave way to a fairly steep escalator, which seemed suspended in the air. From the steps it was possible to contemplate an overview of the contents, at a glance.
Panoramic view of the contents of the Energy Pavilion. An << energy transmission machine >> stood out. This machine showed some of the principles related to the transmission of energy through the different movements of the balls and the pendulum that make it up. When suspended from the ceiling, it could be seen from any point of the pavilion. The rst audiovisual presentation, viewed on a globe, summed up the human journey of discovery: from re to knowledge of the nucleus of the atom. The crystal ball was a spherical screen in which two different images were projected. On the one hand, it showed images of continents, oceans and large masses taken from space satellites. On the other, you could see the audiovisual described above.
Interior Hall of Energy. On this last oor, an introduction to four key inventions and twelve important inventors who made decisive contributions to human progress could also be contemplated. << The gallery of heroes >> taught the progress made in the world thanks to the effort and ingenuity of man. The four characters represented were authors of discoveries related to energy: the steam engine, the electric light, the internal combustion engine and nuclear energy.
Balloons at the entrance of the Energy Pavilion. Another of the attractions of the pavilion was eight " mobile sculptures" of great height. They symbolized the energy related to transportation and food: a walker, a train, a bicycle, an airplane, a car or a truck. The visitors of this section, children especially, could operate the crank, to transform the mechanical energy stored in their muscles in the movement of the sculptures. They also had the possibility of using the computers of the << energy and the trip >>, to know how much energy they had consumed in the trip to the Expo from their place of origin. On the ground oor of the pavilion were exhibited some objects that showed the productive cycle of electricity, oil and gas, as well as the ef cient use of energy in the future. Among them, an electric car, the solar camel, the induction lamps, the Miguel Indurรกin bicycle or the solar car donated by the University of Puerto Rico.
Vehicle prototype powered by solar energy. In this same plant three streets dedicated to oil, electricity and gas allowed a tour of the production processes suffered by these energies from their primary sources to the different forms of nal use through models, objects and audiovisuals.
Panels with graphics showing the energy reality. Another audiovisual showed the passenger what would be the house of the future, an intelligent building where everything was automated to achieve the highest degree of ef ciency from the energy point of view. The Energy Honors Day at the Expo was chaired by the president of Endesa y Unesa, Feliciano Fuster, who praised the presence of the fty-eight Spanish companies in the world of oil, gas and electricity, united in an energy project common as was the Energy Pavilion.

Unicef's Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 11, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 11, 1992.
Her Majesty, Queen So a, signing in the book of honor of the UN Pavilion at Unicef. The United Nations Children's Fund ( Unicef ) celebrated that day its Day of Honor at the Expo , chaired by HM Queen So a and with the presence of more than eight hundred children from various parts of the world. Her Majesty Queen Sofía was received by the UN pavilion's commissioner, Thomas Keller. The children made a call of hope to the whole world since the Universal Exhibition. Hundreds of children spent the day at the Expo, participating in activities and visiting some pavilions, thanks to the nancing of various companies.
Unicef. Unicef was present in the United Nations pavilion, next to the Pavilion of the Basque Country and that of Plaza de América. This pavilion had been realized by three architects of Seville, Luis Uruñuela, Javier Morales and José Ramón Rodríguez Gautier, designer of the building. The most spectacular feature of the building is the large concrete wall that covers the outer faces of the pavilion, which is cube-shaped and is surrounded by a quadrosphere. This pavilion was permanent and was built on an area of two thousand square meters, which highlighted the quality of its materials, fully nanced by Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, owner of the building during the Universal Exhibition.
Pavilion of the United Nations. (Forum des92).
The tour of this pavilion, simple but with a great background, was presented by a nice extraterrestrial person who, through images, showed visitors the UN's goal: << Create a better world >>. The rst exhibition area highlighted the thirty- ve organizations that make up the United Nations system, by order of its creation. The United Nations Children's Fund appeared in second place, illustrated by the image of a Third World child. The rst room housed one of the four audiovisuals that made up the main part of the contents. These lms conveyed a message of hope and the idea that a better world is being created, although much remains to be done.
Her Majesty Queen Sofía goes through the pavilion accompanied by the Minister of the Cortes, Virgilio Zapatero. After touring the interior of the pavilion, Queen So a, who was greeted with exclamations of affection and joy by the large audience, witnessed the symbolic release of hundreds of pigeons. save

The Day of Honor of the Balearic Islands is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on July 3, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 03, 1992.
Balearic Islands in Expo 92. The Balearic Islands : Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera , dressed up that day to celebrate their Day of Honor at Expo 92 . Tourist destination of millions of Europeans for its quiet coves, clear waters and mild weather throughout the year, the islands showed in the Universal Exposition of Seville, the other side of the coin: its historical tradition. To commemorate that day of honor, several folk groups dressed in their typical costumes moved to Seville where they sang and danced in the Palenque and in the Balearic pavilion.
Flag of Balearic Islands. Sailor and Mediterranean, two adjectives that de ned the character of the pavilion of the Balearic Islands. Presided over by two spectacular domed candles thirty meters high, light and water dominated the whole. A pond had been built around it in which a << LlaĂźt >> called Alzina, a typical early-century Latin sailing vessel used for shing, anchored .
Llaüt at the entrance of the Balearic pavilion. The visitor to access the interior of the building had to go through a wooden structure similar to the typical dock of the Ibizan wharves. A sculpture by Joan Miró presided over the hall, the starting point of the journey to the other side of the Balearic Islands that is almost unknown: its historical past. Pre-Romanesque bronzes and Punic pottery constituted the rst thematic unit presented to us by the islands, a journey through the Talayotic culture. The most important piece was the goddess Tanit, goddess ambassador of fertility and protector of the Balearics. The torral of Torralba de Menorca and the bull of Talapí in bronze, of Mallorca, were other of the two exposed pieces. Tauromorphic representations were linked to cults related to fertility. The Mallorcan cartography, creator of numerous nautical charts, had its reserved space in the Balearic pavilion. What was shown was a reproduction of the Cresques atlas, whose original is preserved in the National Library of Paris.
Interior Balearic Islands Pavilion. The geographical con guration of Mallorca and its commercial relations in the early years of the fourteenth century led to the need for better charts to signal routes with greater precision. The portulanos or marine charts reproduced, initially, the physical accidents of the coastline without paying attention to the interior, since its purpose was to guide navigation. The main characters in the history of the Balearic Islands are, without a doubt, Ramón Llull and Fray Junípero Serra.
Detail of the candles that formed the Balearic pavilion. Fray Junípero Serra was the representative of the Balearic contribution to America. This Franciscan missionary was the protagonist of the evangelization of California during the second half of the 18th century. He occupied a privileged place in the wake of the New World walkers as Bartolome de las Casas, Francisco Solano and Pedro Claver, which earned him the honor of being next to the parents of the American fatherland in the Capitol of Washington as representative of the State of California.
The president of the Balearic government, Gabriel Cañellas, receives explanations during the tour of the works of the pavilion that the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The next stop in the history of the Balearic Islands was in the goldsmith's area, where the Turriform Custody of the Cathedral of Ibiza stood out, cataloged as one of the most famous medieval custodies of the Balearic Islands and one of the best examples of Eucharistic tower.
Pavilion of the Balearic Islands. And from the historic Balearic Islands to today's Balearic Islands with an exponent of honor: Joan Miró. The work of the prestigious artist was shown in two rooms, one dedicated to his Mallorcan creation and the other to the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation. And before nishing the tour of this pavilion could not miss the most characteristic island products. The ensaimadas or the famous sobrasada that you could buy to take in the same pavilion. During the intervention of the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands in the day of honor, Gabriel Cañellas, highlighted the universal nature of the Seville Exhibition that gave entry to the representation of Spain today, with the State structure of the autonomies that were consecrated in the Constitution and that appears as a model in the global structuring of countries. save

The Day of Honor of the ONCE is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on July 8, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 08, 1992.
Pavilion of the Once in Expo 92. The National Organization of the Blind ( Eleven ) celebrated that day its Day of Honor at Expo 92 , chaired by the president of the General Council and the Board of the Once Foundation, José María Arroyo and the general director, Miguel Durán. La Once had invested two billion pesetas in its pavilion, << to break down barriers >> and show thousands of people a world they need to discover: the one of handicaps. About 3 million people had experienced during the Expo the feeling of being one of the forty thousand members of the Eleven, participating in multiple "simulations" to make each visitor aware of the need for integration and adaptation that people have. handicapped in society.
Logo Pabellón de la Once. The National Organization of the Blind, a company associated with the Universal Exposition and with several of its branches present in the Exhibition, also used its pavilion as a reception and information center for all disabled people who arrived in Seville. Among the activities of the pavilion stood out that of the Service of Attention to Persons with Physical, Psychic or Sensorial Disabilities (Sapne). Sapne distributed some accessibility guides with the slogan << Make an accessible site >>, where a map of the Expo was provided, indicating its greater or lesser degree of accessibility.
Entrance of the Pavilion of the Eleven. The Eleven Pavilion is located in the so-called Camino de las Acacias during Expo 92, next to Puerta Aljarafe, to facilitate the entry of the handicapped to the building, where a special service took care that the Expo site was not I had barriers for them. The pavilion is entirely built in glass, reinforced on the outside with steel and marble. These materials give the interior a great transparency, luminosity and thermal insulation.
Pavilion of the Eleven. The building was built on an area of six thousand square meters, in which there is no architectural barrier. The architects of the pavilion, Sebastián Mateu and Gilbert Barbany, maintained, in their own words, a constant concern for the accessibility of the building and all the spaces contained in it. Mateu and Barbany thought of different systems to facilitate services; for example, that written messages appear for deaf people; loudspeaker for the blind and lines on the ground for the visually impaired to follow the route.
Félix Hernández, director of the pavilion, was on the cover of a Swedish magazine during the EXPO, in the image at the entrance to the Pabellón de la Once. Already inside the pavilion, a hostess welcomes the visitor and offers a sticker with the logo of the pavilion << A world without barriers >> and with the number of the visitor that touches him. The tour began with a display case showing the development and evolution of the coupon, with objects, its history, anecdotes and documents. The showcase showed all the events that shaped the history of the Eleven coupon: pieces, drums, a kiosk for sale, etc.
Coupons of the Once during the Universal Exhibition of Seville. The different types of kiosks, where these coupons are sold, were presented in the form of mock-ups so that the blind could feel them and feel the place where they enter each day to work and of which they only know a part. The idea was that the visually impaired could touch these cabins and another thirtysix models that were in the pavilion, such as the Cathedral, the Torre del Oro, the Tower of Pisa, and the most famous bridge in London, in this way when touching them They imagined what they were like in reality. At the bottom of the lobby of the pavilion was a radio station where some young people with disabilities Journalism students, did internships. The parlor was completely transparent so that visitors contemplated how people with disabilities could work in this medium. << The radio bubble had two main objectives: to pay tribute to Spanish broadcasting for being the rst source of information for us and to demonstrate that disabled people can work perfectly in this means of communication.
The curator of Expo 92, Emilio Cassinello testing the Game of Mortadelo and Filemรณn. Another of the main attractions of the pavilion was the of cial car for the Olympic Games, with the latest developments designed to facilitate the adaptation of people with disabilities. A stewardess showed the visitors how by pressing a button the wheelchair unfolds and how, by pressing another one, it folded and kept itself. The accelerator in the steering wheel and the automatic clutch facilitated the driving to any person with handicap. The world of sensations was another section in which the visitor could participate and see how their senses are going. A series of experiences that allowed any person - with or without physical disability - to participate in them. The proposed elements were << Natural textures >>, << Memory Game >> and << What does it smell like? >> or << Do you know where you are? >>
(A world without barriers) where many visitors walked the street and feel the dif culties of many people with de ciencies. << A world without barriers >> was the challenge faced by Eleven when participating in Expo 92. With this motto, it demonstrated and sensitized the world that disabled people also have a positive and necessary place in society. One of the spaces with more success of the pavilion was the one that showed in a caricatured way the dif culties that the handicapped found when they went out to the street.
National Organization of the Blind. Hundreds of visitors participated every day in the Universal Exhibition of this game, popularly known as the " Game of Mortadelo y Filemón >>. A stewardess gave each visitor a pair of glasses with which nothing could be seen and a cane to guide him during his urban walk. The visitors learned by playing, and when they nished the tour, they used to agree that we all have to do things with common sense and avoid increasing the barriers that prevent many from moving easily.
(For a world without barriers) remains the motto of the Eleventh Pavilion 25 years later. save

An audiovisual presentation of twelve minutes gave the visitor knowledge of the culture, geography and history of the country, and every half hour and after the lm a couple of dancers performed two tangos, one with an avant-garde touch and the other with a classic one.
Argentina's ag. Although many people did not think about it, the silver exhibition bearing the name " Plata del Plata River" had deeper connotations than the exhibition itself suggested to visitors. The word Argentina arose from a game of words related to the Latin word Argentum, which means silver. The silverware exhibition consisted of 18th, 19th and 20th century pieces, all belonging to the Fernández Blanco, José Hernández and Cornelio Saavedra museums, dependent on the city of Buenos Aires and there were also pieces belonging to private collections. Do not forget, also in silver, the collection of mattes and << light bulbs »-palo through which the mate was aspired-. The mate is a container where an herb known as << yerba mate >> is placed, an infusion deeply rooted in the national tradition.
Argentine stamp It was also necessary to highlight, still in the silver exhibition, the baton of the president of the nation that year, Carlos Menem, made by one of the most prestigious goldsmiths of Argentina, Juan Carlos Pallarois.
In the Argentine pavilion, at the entrance to the silverware exhibition and the two joint stores that it had, and near the reception, where the hostesses catered to the public, there were several video screens where the visitor who wished could ask for the video you most want after looking at the list of about fty that Argentina had lmed to get closer to those people who wanted to know a country called by some as the << six continents >>.
The artist Imperio Argentina, accompanied by the general commissar of Expo 92, Emilio Cassinello, was received by the mascot "Curro" upon his arrival at the palenque, where the National Day of Argentina ceremony was held at the Expo in Seville (EFE) . The Argentine pavilion also had two stores selling numerous leather goods, tapestries, small sculptures and other typical articles of the country. And on the terrace of Plaza de América it had a restaurant where its main specialties are entrecote and sirloin steak. It was the National Day of Argentina, a festive day, happy as the colors of the ag of the country of silver that adorned the rosettes distributed among visitors. And of course, tango was not lacking as a living and traditional expression of Argentine folklore.
Emilio Cassinello (2nd dch), general commissar of Expo 92, accompanied by the artist Imperio Argentina (1st dch), Atilio Molteni (1st left), curator of the Argentina pavilion, and Inocencio Arias (2nd left), secretary of state for International Cooperation, during the visit they made today to the Expo in Seville, on the occasion of National Day of Argentina. (EFE). In discourses, endearing words, strong and close bonds, feelings of fraternity and longing. There were also praises for the relations between both countries that, according to the speakers, are at their best. It was, in short, the day of the Argentines at the Expo. And among them he was especially present, because he could not miss, the universal Argentine Empire that, in a catamaran, crossed the lake and reached Plaza de América. save

The National Day of Canada is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 1, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 01, 1992.
Canadian Pavilion at Expo 92. The Canadians were already experts in what Universal Exhibitions refers to, as they demonstrated in Montreal in 1967 and in Vancouver 1986, before the Universal Exposition of Seville 1992. In Seville they presented the most advanced exhibition technology of the time. Bing Thom, architect of Vancouver, had designed a pavilion, among whose surprises stood out an impressive lm intensi ed by the IMAX digital sound, which incited the visitor to discover Canada .
Canada's ag. Canada celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 , chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Barbara Mc. Dougall and the commissioner of the pavilion Luc Lavoie. The Canadians had made a gigantic investment both in the construction of the building, and in sharing part of this investment among the most needy.
Pavilion of Canada. On the occasion of its national day at the Expo, Canada invited two hundred and nineteen children, from the school " Our Lady of Guidance" in the neighborhood of La PaĂąoleta (Beds), to enjoy the Expo, accompanied by their parents. The children of << La PaĂąoleta >>, a school that had adopted this pavilion, sang in Palenque the song of << Happy Birthday >> to Canada, on the occasion of the one hundred and twenty- ve years of the existence of Canada, created in 1867. Among the events organized to celebrate this day, the ten thousand fans that were distributed among the visitors and the two thousand breakfasts, with crepes and maple syrup, offered at the Palenque stand out.
Pavilion of Canada. The Canadian pavilion was one of the most visited of the Expo site because its contents were well worth waiting patiently, the long lines of more than eight hours. The movie Momentum, projected on a screen twenty- ve meters high by thirty-three meters wide, was the main attraction. Five hundred visitors entered every half hour at the Imax theater, to witness the world premiere of one of the clearest and clearest lms ever seen until that time.
Theater room of the Canada Pavilion. The Canadian pavilion is located on what was called Avenida 4 and Camino de las Acacias, next to the Kangaroo Pub, where the queues of visitors who daily entered this unmistakable pavilion -one of the largest in the section- used to arrive. international-.
The long lines of the Canadian pavilion always remembered. The architect Bing Thom, is the author of the building of 27.5 meters high and ve thousand square meters usable. The main innovation was the two thousand square meters of sheets of zinc that covered the outside, causing re ections both day and night.
Detail of the facade of the Canada Pavilion. Canada was presented in Seville with the motto << Discover Canada-Discover a New World >> joining the slogan of the Universal Exhibition of Seville, based on the Discoveries. The second largest country in the world wanted to demonstrate its innovative spirit and the constant desire they had to explore the unknown. Canada had decided to face the challenge of this Universal Exhibition with ambition and pragmatism, with a proposal in which the visitor was the main protagonist.
Interior Canada Pavilion. The tour of this pavilion began in the courtyard, where there were continually groups singing and juggling that attracted and distracted visitors while waiting in line. The << Patio PĂŠrez >> welcomed during the six months of the Exhibition artists from all over the country, who acted on a stage of glass oating on the water. The walls were covered with water, combined with special effects that alluded to the aurora borealis and recreated an open and fresh space with a bluegreen, reminiscent of the great Canadian lakes.
The Patio PĂŠrez hosted artists from all over the country during the six months of the Exhibition. The highlight of the pavilion is its cinematic hall that after 25 years is still maintained in good condition for all kinds of cultural events, there was broadcast in different countries the world premiere of the lm Imax, where both the lm, << Momentum > > as the projector was a revolutionary breakthrough in the cinema. The lm Momentum was produced by the Film Institute of Canada and was the rst shot and projected at forty eight images per second, producing a clear and sharp image, enhanced by the scale of the screen.
The ice-cut Sir John Franklin in the foreground in the movie Momentum. The lm offered viewers a spectacular portrait of the landscape and the Canadian people, on a quick trip across the country. The ice-cutter Sir John Franklin appears in the foreground, almost getting into the room and causing the rst Oh! of the spectator.
Exhibition area of British Columbia inside the Canadian pavilion. The tour of the pavilion continued through the permanent exhibition hall of the provinces of Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, along with the Federal Government. The visitor made contact with Quebec in the rst area of the exhibition through a fresco that reproduced the main historical stages of Quebec and its evolution to this day.
Exhibition area of Ontario. Ontario was present through the water, one of the most representative characteristics of this country. The ecological touch demonstrated the responsibility of Ontario with the renewal of the natural resources of the province. British Columbia presented << The magical in uence of nature >> on discoveries and technology. The Federal Government of Canada invited visitors to enter and explore this country, visiting the so-called << Canadian Way >>. And to end the memory of that festive day in the enclosure of the Island of the Cartuja, we can not forget another of the highlights of this National Day of Canada, since this country brought one of its best singer to act in its day of honor, Celine Dion, who acted and put her voice on one of the most memorable days of Expo 92. save

The National Day of Mauritania is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 10, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 10, 1992.
Mauritania Pavilion at Expo 92. The celebration of the National Day of Mauritania at Expo 92 was attended by the President of this Republic, Colonel Maaouya Ould Sid 'Ahmed Taya. For the curator of the pavilion of Mauritania, Ethmane Ould Daddi, participating in the Expo was an opportunity to try to show the sovereignty of a State to the World. There were three messages proclaimed at the Universal Exposition of Seville, the rst one to make Mauritania known in the international sphere. Show a country that is both Arab, African and Saharan. A country that has known how to adapt to this desert life and that has maintained the middle point between the Arab and the African world.
Flag of Mauritania. The second message was to participate in the great fair of humanity, as was Expo 92, in order to promote peace. And the third objective was of an economic nature, since they sought through their participation to encourage private initiative. The Mauritania building presented a truncated-pyramidal exhibition hall with a square base with overhead lighting, whose walls sloped inwards, similar to buildings in the sub-Saharan area. The design of the pavilion was the work of the architect Eulalia Mรกrquez Garrido and represented the Mauritanian desert, with sand, shops and trails that sink into the earth.
Pavilion of Mauritania.
The building construction project started with the following ideas. First, place a piece of Mauritanian desert, building a dune; a counterpoint of austerity against the pomposity of the Expo. As a second objective, the nailing an iron store, with a narrow access footpath in the form of a ramp, sinking into the ground until giving the idea of entering the mouth of a mine.
Pavilion of Mauritania. The third idea was to show, both inside and outside the pavilion, the typical market or souk, which re ected Arab craftsmanship and hospitality.
Details of the Mauritania pavilion. Inside the pavilion, with a single room, all the aspects of the daily life of the nomadic tribes were shown. Boxes to store tea, silver jewelry in the form of necklaces, teapots, bracelets, cutlery or boxes. It also exhibited the variety of saddles for both camels and horses. Another section was occupied by clothing, traditional suits of men and women or sandals to be at home or to go out.
Pavilion of Mauritania. The most curious thing was to see a reproduction in small size of a << jaima >> or original habitat of the desert. In its interior the indispensable elements had been arranged: a << tasufre >>, a sort of travel bag made of leather; the Koran; a wooden board where children are instructed in the knowledge of religion; a carpet that was used only by the oldest man to pray; bowls to store milk; wicker baskets to protect food and pillows. The written cultural tradition counted in the pavilion of Mauritania with ancient manuscripts and current books. As a result of its past, polished stone axes dating from 10,000 years ago were exhibited; ceramics corresponding to the Neolithic along with rings and copper axes. You could also see models of different cities of the past where the variations of building were offered according to the territories in which they are located. At the same time you could see the patriarchal house with its different dependencies. The city of Chinguitti, with model in the pavilion, was declared an Artistic Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO in 1984.

The National Day of Morocco is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 12, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 12, 1992.
Moroccan Pavilion (Photograph taken by Rafael Martin Pardal). The Maghrebi nation had surprised everyone with one of the most beautiful buildings in the Universal Exhibition, chosen by most tourists as one of the favorites to take photos. Seville was fortunate that this pavilion was built permanently for the enjoyment of all on the Island of the Charterhouse. Hundreds of artisans worked in the ght against the clock to nish it in time for the inauguration. His effort was worth it, since it is one of the most memorable pavilions of Expo 92.
Flag of Morocco. Entering the pavilion during the Exhibition, it was observed that it was presided over with a large portrait of King Hassan II. His fth son, His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, represented Morocco on his National Day at the Universal Exposition in Seville.
The Moroccan prince Moulay Rachid on arrival at the pavilion. (EFE) The design of the pavilion, work of the French architect Marc Pinseau, was based on the principles of regular tracings that responded to the great Arab tradition of geometry. The glass facades, with their monumental doors and fountains on which water cascaded like waterfalls, invited the visitor to a trip through the fascinating Arab world.
Morocco Pavilion during Expo 92. The star-shaped building with eight points constitutes in itself the contents of the pavilion. Architectural beauty, both inside and outside, is its hallmark with popular arts that include Moroccan craftsmanship as well as music and dance.
Day of Honor in the Pavilion of Morocco. A large octagonal patio with a glass bottom fountain that allows you to see the lower oor is the heart of the pavilion that remains the same after 25 years. Through it, the visitor can access any of the levels of the building. One of the attractions of the Moroccan pavilion is the << Kouba >>, the dome-shaped mobile roof that opens onto the patio.
Central courtyard of the Moroccan pavilion. Popular groups of music and dance from Marrakech and Bouquedir (from the south of Morocco) turned into a kind of ritual the moment in which the roof was opened or closed during the days at Expo 92. Lattices of wooden slats, used to close windows or balconies; mosaics composed of small pieces of terracotta glazed earthenware and hand carved; decorative geometric or oral motifs painted on wood; plaster chiselled by artisans; and murals made with sand, lime eggs and black soap, applied and polished with a smooth stone, formed the decorative elements of the Moroccan building, in whose construction approximately six hundred artisans have participated.
Interior pavilion of Morocco. The only exhibition of the pavilion, was located on the ground oor, a sample of a collection of Roman bronze sculptures of the Moroccan historical heritage. Spread, also, by this oor was a series of photographs of Hassan II and his family.
La Mamounia restaurant, located on the top oor of the pavilion. The Moroccan culinary art, of Arabic, Turkish and Andalusian in uence, had its representation in the restaurant << La Mamounia >>, located on the top oor of the pavilion. As peculiar as the restaurant was the store. The typical chilabas could be purchased for 4,000 of the old pesetas, along with other typical items, such as the famous babouches, wooden jewelery boxes, carved trays, teapots, dolls and a wide variety of ceramic objects among other items.
The Moroccan prince Moulay Rachid attends the celebration of Morocco Day at the EXPO in Seville. (EFE). Morocco felt in Seville as in their own home said that day the youngest son of King Hassan II, Prince Moulay Rachid, during the celebration of the day of his country in the Expo, one of the national days that enhanced and colorful had reached in the Universal Exhibition. The events took place at the Palenque, decorated with rugs expressly sent by the Moroccan Royal House, and the Alawite pavilion itself. save

The National Day of Oman is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 23, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 23, 1992
Oman Pavilion at Expo 92. That day was celebrated on the National Day of the Sultanate of Oman on the Isla de la Cartuja. The events were attended, on behalf of the Sultan, by the Minister of National Heritage and Culture, SA Sayyid Faisal bin Ali Said and a delegation of dignitaries from Oman. The Pavilion of the Sultanate of Oman, reproduced in its architecture the fortress of Sohar, building that had great importance before the advent of Islam, and the gates of the walled city of Muscat, made in mahogany from Singapore. Its weight was 400 kilos each and its realization was totally handmade.
Flag of Oman. In the rst dome, built around a large replica of the hull and the sails of one of the most famous Omani ships, the exhibition contents were distributed. At the same time, visitors could let themselves be carried away by the senses, and surround themselves with traditional music or immerse themselves in the smell of incense. The exhibition elements dealt with the romance surrounding the incense trade and its wealth; of the mysterious cities of antiquity that the << Tales of the thousand and one nights >> told us about ; of the expertise of sailors, boat builders and Omani navigators; of the trips to China of Sinbad el Marino, who was originally from Oman, or of the precious treasures that this people used in their trade with the great empires of the region.
Main gate ag of Oman.
A map, designed in the old style, gave a general idea of the great trade routes that the sailors of Oman made, from points as far away as India and Zanzibar to the port of Canton in China. In the area dedicated to the << Treasury of Commerce >>, a recreated composition of the cargoes of the merchant ships of yesteryear was presented. In the << booth >> there were tins and chests with precious products such as incense, silver, spices, copper, textiles, ceramics, urns and scattered carpets, which seemed to miss the bodegón of a boat after an intense swell. The intermediate zone was dominated by artisans brought from the country. The construction of a miniature ship could be contemplated, using the same traditional methods used in the construction of the great ships, as well as the work of the goldsmith in silver, a trade of permanent relevance, dedicated, above all, to the manufacture of everyday utensils .
Pavilion of Oman. In the second dome, several panels in three languages and videos, offered an overview of the socio-economic news of the Sultanate. The presentation of the exhibition elements could be done while walking through the vaulted passageways that emulated the interior of one of the numerous forts scattered around Oman. save

The National Day of Sri Lanka is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 19, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 19, 1992
Sri Lanka Pavilion at Expo 92. The Sri Lankan pavilion attracted attention because of the monumental Buddha sculpture it had at the entrance to the pavilion. It was a replica of the Buddha of Aukana, twelve meters high, which was sculpted in monolithic rock during the reign of Dhatusena, in the V century BC The sculpture had a lotus ower pedestal and was surrounded by the " source of the desires >>, where the people threw some other currency in search of a more or less achievable dream.
Flag of Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon Wijetunga presided over the day of the celebration of the National Day of Sri Lanka at Expo 92. During his of cial speech he praised the achievements of Spain and said that " this nation, with its long and illustrious history it had become a symbol of hope and optimism for countries like Sri Lanka .
Entrance to the pavilion of Sri Lanka. The pavilion had two entrances, one with access to the restaurant and the other to go to the store. A total of eighty- ve people from the old Ceylon worked in the pavilion. They were dressed in orange, which further enhanced the coppery tone of their skins.
Workers of the Sri Lanka Pavilion. At the entrance, a greeting in Sinhalese: << Ayubowan >>; which is done with hands together and arms crossed. It means, long life and happiness. The exhibition area was limited to offering panels with photographs that brie y showed and explained the customs, history, Buddhist temples, tea plantations and tourist aspects of the country today.
Exhibition area of the pavilion. Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon or the pearl of the Indian Ocean. This tropical island has a reputation forged two thousand years ago, when it was a must stop for Greek, Arab and Chinese merchants. Later it was the meeting point on the Silk Road, between East and West.
The pavilion was presided over by the replica of the Buddha of Aukana of Sri Lanka. Another of the most striking areas of the Pavilion of Sri Lanka was its restaurant that was conceived as a self-service. The workers and native people of the country called the attention of the visitors. The men were in charge of the kitchen, the women of the table service. While you could choose the dishes and see how they spiced up, once the bill was paid, a woman would take the tray and take it to the table. It was a unique self-service, because of the large number of staff. save

The National Day of the Dominican Republic is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 16, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 16, 1992.
Pavilion of the Dominican Republic at Expo 92. The Spanish island, as Cristóbal Colón called the Dominican Republic celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 , with a set of ceremonial, cultural and artistic events for its commemoration. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Juan Arístides Taveras, presided over this day accompanied by an of cial delegation from the Dominican Republic to the Island of La Cartuja. The entrance to the pavilion of the Dominican Republic was presided over by the national ag and a poem by the constitutional president, Joaquín Balaguer, dedicated to Seville. << Seville, you breathe the soul of all Andalusia >>, pointed one of his verses.
Flag of the Dominican Republic. The pavilion of the Dominican Republic was located on the ground oor of Plaza de América , on an area of four hundred and thirty square meters. The pavilion was simple, but it housed in its interior the most characteristic of these islands. The visitor was in the entrance with two masked costumes worn by Dominicans during carnivals on February 27. These masks << devils cojuelos >> had animal forms, although in their origin they all had the face of a devil. Two mannequins dressed in these suits watched the entrance, while two other living mannequins, disguised, took turns to welcome the visitors. The route of the pavilion began with the ground oor, presided over by the national ag and the poem by President Balaguer, dedicated to Seville. The focus of attraction of the entrance was an abstract representation of the light effects produced by the " Faro de Colón" built later on October 6, 1992 in Santo Domingo.
The pavilion of the Dominican Republic was located in Plaza de América. The visitor could contemplate some containers that the Indians used to contain the liquids and a sculpture, entitled << Erótica Fantastica >>, by Luichy Martínez (1984). Some stairs served as access to the exhibition area, dedicated to the promotion of national art. The General Direction of Fine Arts of the Dominican Republic had organized this exhibition of sculpture and painting. The tour continued through the plaza-mar, where a tropical atmosphere of the island was recreated. The design simulated the waves of a beach, and in the sand a kiosk-bar was built just like those seen on those islands. The visitor could taste national drinks and contemplate a large mural, located behind, with tourist images of the island. A compass pointed out the fate of all visitors to the pavilion: the beaches of the Dominican Republic.
Interior Plaza de América. A screen of three and a half meters high by two meters wide continuously broadcast performances of the best singers of Dominican sauces: Juan Luis Guerra, Wilfrido Vargas, etc. Some of them even performed in the Palenque that day of honor to the Dominican Republic.
That night Palenque became the kingdom of Salsa and Merengue. The visitor was also surprised by the presence of an area dedicated especially to show the Dominican production of mink coats. When the thermometers exceeded forty degrees in the exterior of the pavilion in Seville, three beautiful models paraded three times a day with beautiful mink coats of different styles. And we ended our trip to 1992 today remembering the poem that the president of the Dominican Republic, Joaquín Balaguer wrote to Seville and whose rst paragraph read like this: << In you breathe the mistress of all Andalusia, the genius of the race deposited in your heart with the immense volume of its melancholy the most sensitive part of the heart of Spain >>. save

The National Day of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 6, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 06, 1992.
Caribbean Pavilion at Expo 92. The Expo was lled with that day of sounds << calypso >>, a mixture of merengue and salsa, in the celebration of the National Day of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) , which integrated the eight small and paradisiacal Caribbean islands, called the Lesser Antilles. This day was presided by the Prime Minister of the Island of Granada and Vice President of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Nicholas Braithwaite, who took advantage of the celebration of this national day of these islands at the Expo, to recommend to the countries of the East that put into practice the kind of cooperation that was developed between the eight Caribbean islands that make up the OECS
Flags Caribbean States. The Caribbean Pavilion in the Cartuja precinct was a succession of hexagons, bordered by a lagoon with water lilies and tropical plants, with huge colored balloons and disconnected contents, representing Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, the Bahamas and the OECS (Organization of States of the Eastern Caribbean) that celebrated that day its national day in the Universal Exhibition.
Exterior view of the Caribbean Pavilion. The Caribbean Pavilion had a modest presence at the Universal Exposition. The contents were few consistent, some stands were merely advertising and the visitor who approached him spent little time.
The OECS is a political and economic organization founded in 1981 that integrated six independent countries and two British dependencies. Their geographical location places them in the archipelago of the Lesser Antilles. The States that comprise it are: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The British dependencies occupied the territories of Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands.
Caribbean Pavilion. The OECS highlighted what was common among them, the sea, the beach, the underwater life. In the pavilion a market scene was represented, not only as a place of sale, but as a meeting place for people, for the exchange of news.
Water lilies and tropical plants surrounded the Caribbean pavilion. The contents of the Eastern Caribbean Pavilion were subdivided into two areas: one dedicated to the sea and the other to typical markets. At the entrance, the curious was with a simulation of the Caribbean Sea. Rocks made of papier-mâché, beaches painted white with the remains of shells and a sea made with blue paint that served as soil.
Interior Caribbean Pavilion. A photo of tropical beaches with an aboriginal copper. On the rocky walls, a collection was also exhibited photographs that showed domestic utensils and rituals, coming from the Caribbean islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. They were images of stone works dating from the rst and third century of our era, heritage of the pre-Columbian Indians. He followed in the short itinerary of the pavilion, a grotto made of more papier-mache. The evocation of the Caribbean market had palm trees and tables where products from each of the States were exhibited. Arti cial fruits, a reproduction of the typical bed of Antigua and Barbuda; natural cosmetics made with aloe and aromatic candles from Dominica. save

The National Day of Trinidad and Tobago is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 31, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 31, 1992.
Trinidad and Tobago participated in the Caribbean Pavilion. That day was celebrated the National Day of Trinidad-Tobago on the Island of the Cartuja. This State was in the Eastern Caribbean Pavilion and shared space with Jamaica, the Bahamas and the OESS (Organization of Caribbean States). With a single room, he tried to show a cosmopolitan country that not only lives off tourism. The carnival and the different ethnic groups that coexist in the two Caribbean islands were the most repeated themes in their representation at Expo 92 in Seville.
The Minister of Culture of Trinidad and Tobago, Joan Williams, Curro and the General Commissioner of Expo 92, Emilio Cassinello. The Caribbean republic of Trinidad and Tobago showed the world through its Minister of Culture, Joan Yuille-Williams , its tourist, cultural and economic wealth, from oil to its most characteristic music. The two islands of Trinidad and Tobago are located south of the Caribbean Sea, only ten kilometers from Venezuela. Until the year 1962, in which it obtained its independence, it was a dependent colony of different countries (Spain, France, Holland, Portugal and Great Britain).
Flag of Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago were included in the Caribbean pavilion. In 2500 square meters, ten hexagonal models were distributed, forming a central courtyard for common use. The entrance of the pavilion was presided over by moving images that showed diverse feminine faces and some characteristic landscapes of the country. The entire building was decorated with clay pots and leather masks. The content of the pavilion consisted of a series of photographs that described the territory of the country with images of nature, the coast, mountainous landscapes, extensions with palm trees, and the diversity of ethnic features of the population.
Stamp of Trinidad and Tobago. The drum appears as the only common instrument of all the immigrant groups that settled in Trinidad and Tobago. It was used universally for many centuries, in uenced the invention of bread, where emerged over the years the calypso and the dance known as limbo . They also appeared in the images exhibited in the pavilion, percussion groups from the Caribbean called << Steel bands >>. In a privileged place some images of the island were shown, such as the Port of Spain or the Faculty of Medicine of the University of La Antilla in Trinidad and Sabana Grande of Port of Spain. save

The National Day of Uruguay is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on July 28, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 28, 1992
Uruguay Pavilion at Expo 92. Uruguay , with the slogan " an open, democratic and hospitable country" , celebrated that day its National Day at the Expo . The President of the Republic of Uruguay, Luis Alberto Lacalle , commemorated that day after having visited Seville and the Expo in previous days. This was the twelfth country to adhere to the universal project of the Exhibition. Uruguay was the rst time that participated in a Universal Exhibition. The National Day of Uruguay was celebrated with an interesting cultural program. In addition to the performance of the vocal and instrumental ensemble << De Profundis >>, there was a guitar recital by the well-known soloist Abel Carlevaro. The program was completed that night with the theatrical performance of the play << Las Troyanas >> by La Comedia Nacional de Uruguay.
Flag of Uruguay. The architecture of your building, without doors or walls that prevent access to your visitors from the same continent. The Uruguay pavilion showed the image of the country with all its historical past, its present and future. There are four themes collected: historical process, productive Uruguay, artistic-cultural process and artistic Uruguay. In the rst area he made a historical tour in which he exhibited a full-scale replica of a Creole horse with his gala attire. This gure had a privileged place because it symbolized the union of the Andalusian and Uruguayan people, since the rst horse that came to the country was of Andalusian origin.
Creole horse in the Uruguay pavilion. This pavilion had been conceived as a great means of audiovisual communication. Some videos had been selected by contest among the lmmakers of the country. It was the case of the lms << Por una cabeza >>, a youthful and innovative production of Uruguay. One of the most acclaimed projections had been " La Cumparsita" , a curious history of the country that took as its base the rhythm of the Uruguayan tango showing stars like Marilyn Monroe and Fred Astaire dancing it. save

The National Day of Venezuela is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on July 24, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - July 24, 1992
Pavilion of Venezuela in Expo 92. Aluminum, so abundant in Venezuelan lands, was the material that had been used to build the pavilion. As a curiosity, only thirteen hours was the time it took to lift the building using a crane of one hundred and twenty tons. All a record, not exempt, however, of complication. The folding metal structure, weighing ten tons, the largest in the world installed at one time, was moved to CĂĄdiz by boat and then by road to Seville.
Assembly of the Venezuelan pavilion in only thirteen hours. The structure of the Pavilion of Venezuela was formed by trusses connected to each other by hinges that incorporated a system of lightweight panels, designed to provide acoustic conditioning and thermal insulation.
Venezuela's ag. His spectacular << Square of virtual reality >>, located on the outside of the building and designed by the Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz DĂez, was a boast in chromatic art. In it thirty-six masts, nineteen meters high, placed like palm trees, held cobalt blue, chrome green, red and gray canopies, creating a set of optical effects, while providing shade.
Views of the virtual reality square outside the pavilion. The oor of the square, consisting of stripes of green, blue and red and superimposed by black lines, formed a soft ascending curve through which the building was accessed. It was precisely there where the phenomenon of " chromatic induction" occurred at double frequency, since the visitor perceived colors that did not actually exist on the oor of the square.
Hostesses from the Venezuela pavilion. The colors were generated and modi ed depending on the angle of vision, the intensity of the ambient light and the distance at which the visitor moved. The artist had wanted to show that color was a mutant reality that did not require a xed situation. Leaving behind the rst set of colors, the visitor crossed the chromosaturated passage, where he was immersed in a new chromatic experience. This step communicated with the waiting room in which eight short documentaries about Venezuela were broadcast. The contrasts of colors accompanied the audience to the darkness of the projection room.
Venezuela pavilion at night. The Bay of GĂźiria, where Christopher Columbus landed on his third trip, on August 3, 1498, was the start of the documentary lm, made with a 70-millimeter camera, which the Venezuelan pavilion projected on a giant screen. twenty meters by fteen meters. After the screening, we went down to the lower oor where we showed a selection of Venezuelan books of thematic diversity: fauna, ora, crafts, geography, etc; and an exhibition of photographs on the nature of Venezuela.
Pavilion of Venezuela during Expo 92. In this room you could admire the other great kinetic work of the pavilion: << The nylon cube >> by the Venezuelan artist JesĂşs Soto. Two thousand six hundred nylon threads painted in red and black with intervals of white that formed in the central area of the work a perfect square depending on the viewing angle of the visitor.
Venezuela opted for the open space to exhibit three sculptures by the artist Cornelis Zitman. << Caribeña >>, << Woman in a hammock >> and << Niño con perrita >> that represented the miscegenation that characterizes the Venezuelan people.
