The National Day of Costa Rica is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 15, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 15, 1992.
Plaza of America. We left this day to the National Day of Costa Rica in Expo 92 that was chaired by the vice president of the nation, Arnaldo López. To celebrate this day, Costa Rica prepared two shows at El Palenque and the Plaza de América Auditorium, where their stages were lled with music and dance with the National Dance Company and the experimental music singer Adrián Goizueta, who made a mixture of pre-Columbian and colonial music with current technique. Achieving harmony between man and nature, as well as conserving and protecting their cultural and natural heritage, were the keys to the presence of Costa Rica in the Universal Exposition of Seville. The concern of this Central American country for the future of nature was evident in the proclamation made by the president of Costa Rica, Angel Calderón, who was exposed at the entrance of the pavilion: << It is an instance to countries around the world so that together we can take care of the natural riches of the earth >>.
Costa Rica's ag. The entrance of the Costa Rica pavilion introduced us to the two fundamental themes that this country developed inside the Plaza de América of the Universal Exhibition. On the left, the mural << Genesis Precolombino >>, the work of artist Carlos Valenzuela, architect of the building, showed the harmonious integration of pre-Columbian man with nature through a stylized representation of archaeological pieces. On the right, the proclamation of the president of Costa Rica, Rafael Calderón, towards the new ecological order of international cooperation presented at the "Earth Summit" held during the months of the Exposition in Rio de Janeiro. In the center, as a separation of the archaeological and ecological messages, two reproductions of the stone spheres made by the indigenous people in preColumbian times had been placed. One hundred and forty-two original pre-Columbian jewels dated between 500 BC and 1550 AD integrated the only exhibition presented by Costa Rica. A large sample of art of gold and jade, valued at one billion pesetas.
Interior Pavilion of Costa Rica. The social aspects of the Costa Rican pre-Columbian cultures, their customs, were represented by some of the pieces of this collection. Customs had many and very varied, but perhaps one of the most curious was the cult of trophy heads, a widespread practice among the pre-Columbian peoples of Costa Rica and widespread among South American cultures. This cult consisted of cutting the head of the defeated enemy in the battle since for the aborigine it meant obtaining the knowledge and power of the dead warrior. Another of the most interesting pieces was the censer, associated with ceremonial uses, very common in the Gran Nicoya region. Its conical shape and the openings in its upper part allowed the smoke to escape when the incense burned, resembling a volcano. The visit to the Costa Rica pavilion culminated in a great << tropical forest >>, recreation of the National Park << Corner of the old one >>. A waterfall, the exact replica of the base of a ceibo whose real model reached the height of seventy meters, 250 lianas, nests of birds, termites, nests, tropical plants, all natural, showed the Costa Rican forest wealth. save

The National Day of El Salvador is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on September 14, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 14, 1992.
Pavilion of El Salvador. El Salvador celebrated that day its National Day at the Universal Exposition of Seville with the presence of the Vice President of the Republic of El Salvador, Francisco Merino, who was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ricardo Valdivieso. This day was marked by the performance of the music and singing group << Xolotl >>, internationally recognized as a group with << Salvadorean conscience >>, whose work was aimed at maintaining the Salvadoran cultural identity within the culture of Latin America. The pavilion of El Salvador was located on the second oor of the Plaza de AmĂŠrica, in this pavilion stood out in the Expo for the large mural of colors entitled << In the garden of the gods >> original work of the contemporary painter Fernando Fort. This work was an allegorical mural of the meeting of the two worlds, which was summarized in the motto of the pavilion << The meeting of two gods >>.
Flag of El Salvador. One of the protagonists of the pavilion was the religious aspect, whose impact could be seen through different artistic manifestations corresponding to the pre-Hispanic era, the colonial period and the contemporary world. Another of the main protagonists of the pavilion were the handicraft items made with colorful fabrics, which the visitor contemplated in the rst area of the pavilion. More than twelve different kinds of birds (pelicans, parrots, peacocks, etc.), hung from the ceiling on a mountain of paper mache owers. The tour continued through a room dedicated to the pre-Columbian era, whose main element was the image of the god Nahua << Xipe Totec >> (God of spring, known as Lord Flayed). The visitor could see in the showcases different gures with anthropomorphic and zoomorphic representations, as well as vessels made with the technique of lost wax and polychrome vases of the classic period, middle Preclassic and late Preclassic.
The El Salvador pavilion was located inside Plaza de AmĂŠrica.
In the adjoining room there were several showcases dedicated to the colonial era. Between the objects they emphasized a carving of San Cristóbal, realized in wood in century XVIII, next to this one there was another one of the Virgin of the Asunción. There were also several pieces in silver, such as a botafumeiro and other ceremonial objects. A wooden carving of the Virgin of Guadalupe from the 18th century and several religious gurines painted in the naif style gave way to the area that housed the pavilion store, where the visitor could buy handicrafts, which gave the pavilion a colorful atmosphere and cheerful. save

The National Day of Algeria is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 13, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 13, 1992.
Pavilion of Algeria in Expo 92. That September 13, 1992 was the date on which the National Day of Algeria would nally be celebrated at Expo 92 , after its date was postponed due to the assassination of its president, Mohamed Boudiaf . Despite the political vicissitudes that this country had suffered during those years, presented at the Universal Exhibition of Seville a pavilion with the slogan << Algeria, land of dialogue and exchange >>, whose contents were primarily historical.
The contemporary age came from the hand of some national artists, especially dedicated to abstract painting. It was the case of the murals of Aicha Haddad, who used dyed sand and bags of << tuaregs >> to make his paintings. Another attraction was the Algerian restaurant, where the waiters served the wine dressed in traditional costumes in a typical Berber crockery. In this restaurant you could get to know the true typical Algerian cuisine with dishes like the << Corba Frik >> (soup of ground beef and shredded wheat) or the << Couscous >>, a dish that is already well integrated into Western cuisine in these last twenty- ve years. save

The National Day of Romania is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 12, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 12, 1992.
Romanian Pavilion at Expo92. We left for the celebration of the National Day of Romania in Expo 92 , that day the of cial acts of this country was attended by the Romanian President, Ion Iliescu. The Romanian pavilion was the work of Argentine architect Alberto Carabie Martin. The exhibition area was occupied by the ground oor, where the history of this Balkan country was counted, and the terrace, where a sample of contemporary sculpture was exhibited. A journey through time, through Roman colonization, the frescoes of the Byzantine churches and the dawn of aviation.
Contemporary Romanian sculpture took on a unique space in the pavilion. The sculpture << Prayer >>, which belonged to the early period of Constantin Brâncuşi, one of the founders of modern sculptures worldwide , stood out . save

Logo Tierras del Jerez Pavilion. In the pavilion of Tierras del Jerez spring did not pass and the visitor lived a continuous Fair. This pavilion was atypical in terms of the route that visitors should follow to see its contents. What was most striking was the presence of horses, a key identity sign of the city of Jerez, and one of its main cultural and economic values.
Land of Jerez Pavilion. Surrounding the building was recreated the classic horse ride that is lived in an enclosure of any Andalusian Fair. The pavilion had been built with tracks from albero, which served as the basis for the exhibition of the horses, over a space of 3,000 square meters. The pavilion offered equestrian exhibitions every day at different times.
Pabellón Tierras del Jerez brochure. The horses were in an annex to the pavilion, where forty boxes had been built, under the continuous surveillance of the Yeguada Militar de Jerez de la Frontera. One of the great attractions of the pavilion was the exhibition of hitches, horse carriages and carriages of different styles and dimensions. Visitors could see a " Spidder" or light car with a hood, with capacity for two people in front and a footman behind. Another of the cars that were exposed was the << Canastilla >>, lighter and discovered; the << Familiar >>, closed and glazed, with rear door and capacity for six people, hooked with four or six horses. The route through the Tierras de Jerez pavilion continued through the interior of the building between the shed and shed, where gastronomy became art. The best restaurants in Jerez presented their tapas and better products to the public. The cars of Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya, the world champions of Rally, were exposed together with one of the most perfect robots of Expo 92. Captain Thomas Coram was an eighteenth-century android who recited before the audience phrases by William Shakespeare, in which he highlighted the qualities of Sherry wine.

The Honor Day of El Corte Inglés is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 22, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 22, 1992.
Recreational Park of El Corte Inglés in Expo 92. One hundred thousand balloons, a concert by one of the most popular characters of the moment, Emilio Aragón, diverse performances by rocieos choirs and orchestras, is what El Corte Inglés reserved to celebrate its Day of Honor at Expo 92 . Within this world of fantasies that was the Expo was a small but fantastic place where the little ones of the house could let their imagination y. It is as if in a close and open eyes the whole family moved in time and space. Paris, London, Osaka, the American West, 1878, 1893, 1964, 1970.
El Corte Inglés was one of the collaborating companies of Expo 92. In this peculiar journey there was much that could be seen and learned. Everything was an emblematic symbol of time, products of great exhibitions that left an indelible mark on the memory of men. The Eiffel Tower , the majestic Statue of Liberty , the Unisphere of New York or the Sun Tower of Osaka were also present in this playground of El Corte Inglés.
Children's Recreational Park of El Corte Inglés in Expo 92.
The replicas helped the children to know more closely and in a fun way the importance of past exhibitions. Details like that the Eiffel Tower, protagonist of the Universal Exhibition of Paris, has a height of 300 meters and that to build it were made 5,300 drawings and 18,038 pieces, which were xed by seven million rivets, or that the interior iron structure of The Statue of Liberty was the work of Gustave Eiffel, builder of the tower of the same name. Two music kiosks, located in the center of the children's park, presented photographs of some of the posters, contents and the most representative constructions of various exhibitions: << La bell de la libertad >>, by Leonardo da Vinci, which served to announce in Paris in 1776 the American independence and that was presented a hundred years later in the Exhibition of Philadelphia along with the telephone of Bell; a teapot 76 centimeters high and with a capacity of 61.31 liters that was exhibited at the Universal Exhibition of London in 1851.
Children's Recreational Park of El Corte Inglés in Expo 92. The success of the park, attended by thirty-two people, witnessed it with the numerous visits they received daily during the six months of the Universal Exhibition. The Honor Day of El Corte Inglés in Expo 92 was presided by the president of this company, Isidoro Álvarez and the members of the Board of Directors.

The National Day of Nicaragua is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 20, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 20, 1992.
Plaza de AmĂŠrica at Expo 92. The Ibero-American country chaired by Violeta Barrios Chamorro celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 , with a set of ceremonial and cultural events chaired by the Minister of the Interior of Nicaragua, Alfredo Mendieta. The small pavilion of Nicaragua was distinguished by the photograph of Violeta Chamorro that was in the entrance, where making the sign of victory indicated: << We want to live in democracy, in peace and above all in freedom >>. Under the motto << Land of changes and poets; land of lakes and volcanoes >> the rst part of the pavilion was presented.
Flag of Nicaragua. A large lake created thanks to the effect of blue tiles and a sculpture shaped like a woman, symbolized the great lakes and the change from military to civil society, of Nicaragua. The visitor could then see a private collection of postage stamps, which covered the period from 1982 to 1992. Among the stamps were those that commemorated the so-called race day (October 12) and the ve hundred years of Discovery. Along with these stamps there was a collection of tickets, which dated from 1958 to the present: from the peso to the cĂłrdoba.
Entrance pavilion of Nicaragua. The route continued crossing an old bridge, that symbolized the Atlantic Coast, and arriving until the prow of a ship, the << Santa Libertad >>, that as if it were a surrealistic picture it left a photograph of the beaches of the country. A large video screen, surrounded by six television monitors, broadcast an audiovisual with images of daily life in Nicaragua. After the large photograph that portrayed a congregation of Nicaraguans in a plaza, covering one side of the pavilion, was the store. Visitors could buy all kinds of ceramic items with pre-Columbian motifs, tobacco, stone carved gures, dance masks and hammocks. The last area of the pavilion was dedicated to the thoughts of famous Nicaraguan men and a representation of contemporary artists. Among the paintings that most caught the attention of visitors was the << Landscape with treasure >> by Alejandro Arostegui, made with canned food cans and soda cans.
Seal of Nicaragua in Expo 92 passport. Beyond the new bridge, which communicated symbolically with the Paci c, was the works of other painters such as Orlando Sobalvarro, who exhibited the << Poetic Composition >>. save

The National Day of Chile is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 18, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 18, 1992.
Chilean Pavilion at Expo 92. More than a hundred dancers, musicians and actors along with some thirty Chilean authorities headed by the Minister of Planning and Cooperation, Sergio Molina Silva, were on that day in Seville to celebrate the National Day of Chile at Expo 92 . More than three million people visited the one considered as one of the best architectural works of the Expo, the Chilean Pavilion combined two of the most abundant materials of the Andean country: wood and copper.
Chile's ag. Seducing the visitor through the << adventure >> and the << amazement >> was the objective of the people in charge of the Chilean pavilion. Bringing an " iceberg" to Seville was not a walk of roses. Apart from the technical dif culties, the critics of the environmentalists rained on the seas, coming to describe the idea as << ridiculous >> and << anti-ecological >>.
Wood is the main material of this pavilion. In this regard the pavilion's curator pointed out that << C hile is one of the most committed countries in the conservation of Antarctica. The fact that we brought a piece of ice from the South Pole for over 500 years allowed us to bring to the heart of Europe a symbol of a continent to be preserved. In addition to bring sixty tons from the South Pole did not mean a loss to the Antarctic continent .
Iceberg inside the Chile Pavilion. As if it were a market, Chile had distributed thousands of boxes throughout its pavilion that the visitor could see, touch and buy. Each one of them enclosed a part of the history of this Andean country, its customs, politics, economy and included a small gift, a piece of its land; a lapis lazuli stone. There were 480 different boxes that dealt with six aspects of the life of Chile: << Land of delicacies >>, << Country of generous riches >>, << The last end of the world >>, << Chile company of ideas >>, << Solid people >> and << Chile works >>. Chile also offered its visitors through a computer information of different Chilean companies or individuals that were dedicated to the export and import of products. In short, Chile was during the Universal Exhibition in the sight and reach of all, never better said. The public delved into the history of this country, the southernmost on the Earth, where visitors knew their customs, their business, their political life, in an easy and entertaining way, through boxes scattered throughout the pavilion. the goal of Chile in Seville.

The National Day of Papua New Guinea is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 17, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 17, 1992.
Pavilion of Papua New Guinea in Expo 92. That day was celebrated on the Island of the Cartuja on National Day of Papua New Guinea at Expo 92. The of cial acts were attended by the Governor General, Wiwa Korowi. The structure of the Papua New Guinea building reproduced in its structure the traditional style of the << Haus Tambaran >> or houses of the spirits. The interior was dominated by a grotto and a 12-meter waterfall that "reproduced" the natural space of this Paci c island. The agricultural sector of this country showed in images cocoa, rubber and tea plantations.
Flag of Papua New Guinea. The ten-minute lm was a wake-up call to tourism. But what was more attractive were the traditional dances. The pavilion of Papua New Guinea also had a restaurant and a shop, where you can buy from typical masks to basketry tools. Traditionally, entry into these huts was only allowed to men and was used for several meetings, although their main mission was to house the young men during the rites of initiation to the tribe. The << Haus Tambaran >> were built with wood and leaves of palm trees, at the same time decorated with gures of spirits. The pavilion, however, was built with current materials such as concrete, steel and glass and was the work of architect David Richardson.
Pavilion of Papua New Guinea. On the exterior, the two facades showed multicolored murals by current painters. The motif of the main facade represented a spirit held by the aborigines, all looked from the top by the bird of paradise, the national emblem of Papua New Guinea. On the rear facade there were symbols of the 860 tribes living in the country. The contents focused on making known the natural riches of its territory, ranging from large gold mines to copper, silver, oil and natural gas exploitations. They also presented Papua New Guinea as an exceptional tourist destination, baptizing it as the "dorado" of the southern seas.
Papua New Guinea ag logo. The tour of the pavilion began with an ascending ramp that leads to a stone wall. In front of the rock walls was a model of a canoe representing the maritime techniques of the area. In two display cases two representative objects could be seen: a << bilum >> or traditional bag of thread and a shell necklace of << kina >>, from which the name of the Papua coin was taken. The most striking was the waterfall of twelve meters, surrounded by a " natural" place where plants and totems were scattered, all with music set in the surroundings of the island. The visitor could also play a kind of drum, which is not really a musical instrument but a vehicle of communication between islands. save

The National Day of Panama is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on September 27, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 27, 1992.
Panama Pavilion at Expo 92. On September 27, 1992, the National Day of Panama was celebrated , one of the Central American countries installed in Plaza de América. It had one of the smallest budgets in the sample, only two hundred million pesetas, which was paid to the staff, transfer, lodging and the contents of the pavilion, which occupied a reduced space of two hundred and fty square meters. Despite this, they had a digni ed presence at the Universal Exposition, giving the image of a prosperous Panama laden with cultural heritage. The mascot of Panama at Expo 92 was << CompaMeño >>, a toucan wearing the << chacarrita >> or purse, the Panamanian hat and the << cutarras >> ( ip ops used by the peasants).
Flag of Panama. Access to the small exhibition was accompanied by two streams of water on both sides of the entrance that resembled the map of Panama, surrounded by the Atlantic and the Paci c. Statues located next to the letters of the country were the prelude to the pre-Columbian millenary past that was explained in the interior through pieces of archeology.
CompaMeño was the mascot of the Panama Pavilion at Expo 92. In order to attract visitors to Plaza de América, they had installed a large "mola" or tapestry made with fabrics. It was a craft work that is done by superimposing fabrics and entresacándolas to make drawings.
In the rst room pieces of some of the oldest civilizations of the south of the American continent were exhibited. The highlights were the gures carved in stone that differentiated them from the other pre-Columbian peoples who sculpted monoliths. In the center there was a sacri cial table with fty-two heads around the edge, which represented the number of years that passed between sacri ce and sacri ce. It was the continental re ceremony, repeated in different parts of America. The next room reproduced the humid tropical forest, with sixty different varieties of arti cial plants. This area was called the royal road, like the one that Carlos V ordered to do to communicate the coasts of the central isthmus of Panama, in a rst of two Tuesdays. A small waterfall and a pond created a tropical environment of that stone and water layout, antecedent of the Panama Canal.
Interior pavilion of Panama. During all that day of honor to Panama several groups were present. The dance group << Aires de Panamá >> received the of cial retinue in Plaza de América, changing the << Montuna >> or daily costumes for the gala ones. save

The National Day of Cyprus is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 26, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 26, 1992.
Cyprus Pavilion at Expo 92. The celebration of the National Day of the Republic of Cyprus in the enclosure of the Island of the Cartuja counted on the presence of the Cypriot president, George Vassiliou . The island of Cyprus, in the Eastern Mediterranean, reached its independence as a country in 1959, after 81 years under the British administration. However, in the summer of 1974, the northern area was invaded by the Turks. Two hundred thousand people, who made up 80 percent of the population of the occupied part, were thrown out of their homes and turned into refugees, victims of the application by Turkey of the policy of "ethnic cleansing", which was put in practice for the rst time in Europe after World War II. At the same time, tens of thousands of settlers from Anatolia were illegally transferred to Cyprus.
Flag of Cyprus. The exhibition contents of the Cyprus pavilion re ected the history of this town over 9,000 years. Their strategic location in the Eastern Mediterranean had left them a cultural legacy resulting from the succession of Achaeans, Phoenicians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Romans, Franks, Venetians, Turks or British. The reproduction of the merchant ship << Kirenia II >>, of the 4th century BC, prototype of the ships that were used in the time of Alexander the Great, dominated the exhibition contents. It was the copy of a Greek ship of antiquity found almost intact and that remained sunk in the coasts of Cyprus more than 2,000 years, with a load of amphoras and mills. The original vessel was rescued in 1975, after eight years of archaeological work. He is currently in the museum of Kirenia in the northern part of the island occupied by the Turks.
Kirenia II inside the Cyprus Pavilion. Around the << Kirenia II >> the contents belonging to antiquity were distributed. Copper, as the main wealth, was presented through the copy of the << Dios ingote >>, male divinity that symbolized the fertility of metallurgy, as well as the simulation of a small mine. The importance of navigation, both as a vehicle of goods and ideas, was re ected in thirteen small ceramic objects that had as a common motif several models of boats. In another large showcase they were original in ceramics and sculptures in terracotta or marble, like the torso of naked Aphrodite of the Roman period; an ornamental bronze spear in the shape of a tree leaf from the 1st century or a bust of a female gure molded in terracotta from the Chripro-Archaic period. The most striking feature of the Cyprus pavilion were the ve Byzantine icons that decorated the room next to the one on the ship: the " Virgin Hodegetria" or the " Virgin Filoquiotisa" ; the icon of << Ayios Nikolaos >> or the one of the Archangel Michael next to a Pantocrator, that expressed the << archaic >> of the technique that contributed hardness to the gure and the smoothness of the faces of the Child that pointed certain sweetness to the time it seemed to announce the Renaissance in the West.
Pavilion of Cyprus. The current affairs of Cyprus were collected in the pavilion by means of a sample of audiovisuals, both of geographical and cultural aspects and of the work carried out for the survival of giant tortoises on their coasts. A store and a restaurant completed the offer of this small European country. save

The National Day of Denmark is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 25, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 25, 1992.
Denmark Pavilion at Expo 92. The Danish monarchs arrived in Seville aboard their real yacht << Danne brog >>, which climbed up the Guadalquivir River escorted by a Danish warship. << Danne brog >> is also the name given to the national ag, which according to the Danes, is the oldest among the ags of the world. HM Queen Margaret of Denmark and HRH Prince Henry presided at the ceremonial and cultural events planned for the celebration of Denmark's National Day at Expo 92 .
Flag of Denmark. The ag of Denmark arrived in Seville packed in twenty-four containers, which contained prefabricated elements of the pavilion and thirty-two pieces of berglass that simulated the sails of a ship. This construction, designed by the architect, Jan Soendengaard, symbolized the island kingdom and its seafaring tradition. After the Universal Exhibition the building was sold to a group of Japanese businessmen (for about three hundred million pesetas) for a park that simulated a Danish city, near Kyoto, the Japanese dismantled the pavilion and moved it to its new location after the Exhibition
Denmark Pavilion. Denmark's participation in Expo 92 was mainly focused on its pavilion and the restaurant, demonstrating the Danish quality. Visitors entering the Danish pavilion were a little surprised when a stewardess dressed in a sailor-style uniform by Karin Krebs, invited him to take a cushion and lie on the oor. A giant spectacle of image and sound was projected on the inside of the candles, with the title << Visions of Denmark >>. This fteen-minute audio-visual on the evolution of Danish society included the theme of the << Danish Overture >>. << Land and industry >>, among others. The assembly of slides was projected on six screens located in the upper part of the room, two of them being on the right, in such a place that it is dif cult for the public to pay attention to them. One of the great attractions of this pavilion was at the entrance and there were many visitors who had photographed with him. We refer to the giant ceramic pitcher, which measured four and a half meters high and weighed six tons. This work, made by the artist Peter Brandes, sought limits in terms of design, coloring and ring of ceramics.
Ceramic tile at the entrance of the pavilion. The pot of the pitcher, named as the largest in the world, had been made in a kiln built especially for this occasion, in the Tommerup tile and brick factory. save

The Mapfre Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 24, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 24, 1992.
Mapfre sponsored a large part of the work of Puente de la Barqueta. The of cial insurer of the Expo, Mapfre celebrated that day its Day of Honor in the precinct of the Isla de la Cartuja, in a party attended by two thousand three hundred people from all over Spain invited by this company. The Mapfre system supported the project of the show from the very beginning, for << its vocation to be present in important events as the rst insurance group in the country >>.
Mapfre. Mapfre was created in 1933. It maintained its independence throughout its history and began its business development in the mid-1940s. The presence of the Mapfre system at the Universal Exposition of Seville was not limited to insurance policies for workers and pavilions. It was the sponsor of the emblematic bridge of the Barqueta, turned into one of the most recognizable symbols of Expo 92. The idea of bridge was linked to the advertising campaign that had as its motto << the bridge to retirement >>. The manager of Mapfre in Seville, Juan Palop, said that day was a clear reference to the idea of a step towards a secure future, which the company had always had as a basic principle of its services.
Shuttle bus Expo 92 sponsored by Mapfre. Mapfre was equally visible in the publicity of the internal buses of the enclosure and in those of displacements from the car parks, as well as in the information screens about the Expo. In total, more than ve hundred million of the old pesetas invested in the Universal Exposition, without counting the expenses of the disasters of the pavilion of the Discoveries and pavilion of the South Paci c Islands.

The National Day of Saudi Arabia is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 23, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 23, 1992.
Pavilion of Saudi Arabia in Expo 92. Saudi Arabia celebrated that day its National Day at Expo 92 . To commemorate it, Prince Salman Ben Abdul Aziz , brother of the Saudi King, Fahd Ben Abdul Aziz al Saud, was present in Seville . This particular ephemeral pavilion was located on the West Promenade of the Universal Exposition, whose exhibition design was carried out by Fitch Benoy, the works began in June 1991 and conceived as a building consisting of a network of metal pipes and concrete blocks.
Flag of Saudi Arabia. Clay walls enclosed a large tent that covered the exhibition area, an oasis of palm trees and a wall of water. The magni cent Bedouin blankets, with bright colors, were used to cover the patio, translating into a great tribute to the variety of Saudi Arabia and its rich heritage of craftsmanship. Clay walls and other traditional building materials from Arabia formed the main part of the pavilion. All the elements melted into a mixture of bright colors created by the hand-woven bedouin blankets that covered the desert room.
Entrance pavilion of Saudi Arabia. The visitors entered by a traditional door that took to a place acclimated by walls of water in which there was an oasis. The audience then moved through a dark gallery of rock through a hologram of the Koran in the desert room.
Interior pavilion of Saudi Arabia. The pavilion integrated the three architectural elements that represent the kingdom (the Mudbrick structure, the Bedouin tent and the Islamic mesh), the latter, made of steel, was used as a matrix to display the typical musharabiyah. This space was unique because it offered an open facade as a public space, allowing visitors to view the exhibition at the same time as an indoor and outdoor event.
Typical dances at the entrance of the pavilion. As for the contents, inside the pavilion was installed a desert room containing sand from those desolate territories, with numerous archaeological nds and other elements related to the desert. At the end of this room, there was a giant screen showing a short lm about the life and people of the kingdom. An old copy of the Koran was exhibited and the exhibitions that surrounded the central courtyard described the history and geography: diversity, religious foundations, with special emphasis on the custody of the sacred places: Mecca and Medina, with two large scale models that reproduced them.
Large models inside the pavilion. To visit this pavilion was to move to a fascination of other worlds, this pavilion had a special charm for the almost 6 million people who visited it. With authentic sand of the desert, the public acceded to a representation of the life and customs of the Arabs. save

The Telecommunications Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 3, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 03, 1992.
Multimedia screen of the Telecommunications Pavilion. Witnessing what was happening anywhere in the world and having better living conditions was possible thanks to telecommunications , which celebrated that day its Day of Honor with the assistance of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, José Borrell. The Symphony Orchestra of Seville, was commissioned to put the musical note to this day and chose for this occasion the play << Tango y Sevilla >>, by Isaac Albéniz, which for the rst time, was performed only with metal instruments.
La Masota Curro, together with the Minister of the Presidency, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba and the Minister of Public Works Jose Borrell. (EFE) The Telecommunications pavilion , located in the Plaza del Futuro, was a space full of surprises in which they realized, among other issues, the latest technological advances in this sector. Its installation and management had been in charge of the Society POET (European Telecommunications Operators Pavilion) constituted by the main European telephone service companies: Telefónica de España, British Telecom of the United Kingdom, France Telecom of France, Telekom of Germany, Belgacom of Belgium and PTT Telecom of the Netherlands. In addition, telecommunications equipment companies such as Motorola, Edison, Philips, ATT and Alcatel participated as sponsors. Images and sounds from all corners of the world came to this pavilion hand in hand with a huge composite screen, nothing more and nothing less, 850 monitors, the largest built until that time. A review of the rst centuries of the history of humanity, the most important events in recent years and even the image itself, passed through these hundreds of television monitors in a myriad of images.
The Telecommunications pavilion was located in the Pavilion of the Future. The global village as a symbol of a world made up of people communicating with each other was the prelude to adventure. Something as simple as dialing a telephone number and getting in touch, in a few moments, with a determined person regardless of where they were, implied, nevertheless, a huge scienti c and technological effort. The Telecommunications Pavilion invited the visitor to make a trip as a telephone call does, through the circuits and facilities that must be overcome to choose the right path and reach the receiver. For them it was construed in an entertaining way through a multimedia in which the protagonist of the story is a character called Bleep, a telephone signal, which takes human form and invites an executive to take a trip through the bowels of the network global telecommunications The new technologies, those that were in those years still in development stages, were also present in the pavilion. Three of them, those dedicated to voice technology, captivated the visitor's attention for their uniqueness: the Amigo text-voice converter, which converted stored or newly typed texts into the computer into voice. save

The CEA Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 2, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 02, 1992.
The Plaza de Ă frica building was ceded for six months to accommodate African countries without their own ag. The Andalusian businessmen saw Expo 92 as a very favorable forum for economic and commercial relations, especially in those years prior to the arrival of the European Single Market. The CEA , Confederation of Employers of Andalusia , made several contributions to the Universal Exhibition as a corporate host and as an information dissemination organ. On that day, just nine days after the closing of Expo 92, this regional organization celebrated its Day of Honor in the Island of La Cartuja in a festive atmosphere of Andalusian folklore.
CEA (Confederation of Andalusian Businessmen). The Andalusian Confederation is a professional organization that defends the interests of the six hundred associations, federations and business organizations that integrated it during that 1992. It was born in 1979, two years after the creation of the CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations), organ which it belongs to and through which it is represented in the Unice (Union of Confederations of Industry and Employees of Europe). It had been the Spanish pioneer in the agreement with a regional government, started in 1984 with the signing of the rst collaboration agreement with the Junta de AndalucĂa. This organization had special interest in the Andalusian company entering to form part of the new Europe of 93, which had been the reason for the active presence of the CEA in the sample.
Africa Square in Expo 92. The Confederation of Andalusian Businessmen had been since June 91, host and collaborator of Expo 92. Since the opening of its of ce in the World Trade Center Building, had offered a program of services aimed at arranging visits for people from the world of business, and welcome and advice for any businessman who visited the site. In this way it was established as a specialized center for relations and information, creating a favorable image of the organization, as well as taking the opportunity to interact with industry leaders. The physical presence of the CEA in the Cartuja was the Plaza de África building, a construction whose cost of 2,025 million pesetas had been co- nanced by the European Regional Development Fund and the CEA. During the six months that the exhibition lasted, the Confederation of Businessmen had ceded this center to the State Society, hosting fteen African countries.
The Plaza de África building is currently part of the CEA building. To celebrate the participation of Andalusian entrepreneurs in the Expo, the Confederation organized a day featuring Andalusian music and dance, with the performance at the Palenque of the Real Artistic Group of Valverde del Camino, also distributed fty thousand lea ets and fty thousand stickers among all visitors. save

The CERN Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 30, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 30, 1992.
From the beginning of the centuries man had been curious to know the origins of the world that surrounds him, the rst instants of the Universe. Knowing where that huge amount of concentrated energy came from, which suddenly transformed into an unimaginable number of billions of particles giving rise to the world, is still impossible. But it is known that perseverance is one of the virtues of man and the efforts to someday unveil this enigma are worthy of admiration. The CERN (European Laboratory for the Physics of Particles) celebrated in the Island of the Cartuja that day its Day of Honor in the Expo 92 . Thanks to its accelerators (large devices) it was possible to throw some particles against others almost at the speed of light, obtaining in moments, an enormous concentration of energy, enough to give birth to matter.
CERN Honor Day at Expo 92 CERN, one of the largest laboratories in the world - its area covered approximately 560 hectares in 1992 - was founded in 1954. Located on the Franco-Swiss border, west of Geneva, it had an annual budget of about 80,000 million at that time of the old pesetas paid by the eighteen countries that had participated in it up to that date. The research program of the European Laboratory for Particle Physics was based on large accelerators. The most recent experiment in 1992 had been the construction of the LEP, a high-energy electron and positron collider with a circumference of 27 kilometers.
LHC. A miniature reproduction was exhibited outside the pavilion of the Universe. The last technological challenge of CERN projected in those years would be the creation of the LHC, a superconducting particle accelerator to achieve the collision of proton beams at the highest energy levels ever achieved. CERN drew attention at the Expo on the future of research and bring it closer to the public. The of cial ceremony of the Day of Honor began at eleven o'clock in the morning, with the presence of one of the directors of the CERN and Nobel Prize in Physics in 1984. They also presided over the act Elias Fereres, Spanish Secretary of State for Universities and the investigation.
Energy Pavilion at Expo 92. The General Secretary of the Exhibition Emilio Cassinello, highlighted the advance of scienti c knowledge, since << never so many men had exercised with such freedom and dedication the impulse to go beyond what we knew >>. After the of cial interventions, a total of one hundred and fty scientists took the stage of Palenque, to explain the different aspects of science, giving the public the possibility to ask questions.

The National Day of the Republic of Fiji is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 29, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 29, 1992.
Pavilion of the South Paci c Islands. The Pavilion of the South Paci c Islands , represented the states of Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu . The Republic of Fiji celebrated its National Day at Expo 92 on the island of La Cartuja . This country gained its independence in October 1970. Since 1874 it had been a British colony. The economy is dominated by the sugar industry and tourism. Sugar had been the main source of income since the early twentieth century, but in recent years its contribution had been somewhat erratic. Tourism, which was struggling to achieve the rst position, is an even more ckle industry: its annual success depended on natural disasters, political unrest, airline policy and strong competition.
Flag of the Republic of Fiji. The pavilion of the Islands of the South Paci c was a typical construction that represented a temple, but that as a result of the re it had remained in a house. The interior of the cabin was composed of four zones: the entrance, like a serpentine corridor bordered by palm trees and strawberries; the house proper, where the importance of shing was staged; the central zone with photography, articles of before and now, a waterfall, an arti cial lake and a sample in exhibition of manufactured products. The fourth area was dominated by the store, where totems, coconut soap, coffee and samples of woodwork and basketry could be purchased.
The stewardesses carried a red ower, a hibiscus, attached to the ear. As if it were a boat, in the distance, before approaching the pavilion, you could see two masts and a kind of ag that uttered against the wind and without tide. It advertised a corner of the Paci c, but the real ones were called, the ritual drums that periodically resounded.
Fiji Islands in Expo 92. A lake bordered the hut; a palisade also. Traditional dances could be seen every two hours, coinciding with the average. If something attracted attention, it was the human element. The stewardesses carried a red ower, a hibiscus, attached to the ear, which reminded us of the American lms of World War II. The aborigines did their craft work of building boats or drums; The women, with the traditional dress made of coconut leaves and palm tree, did basketry.

The Honor Day of the World Tourism Organization is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 28, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 28, 1992.
Flags of the countries participating in Expo 92. Since the General Assembly held in Torremolinos in 1979 adopted the Statutes of the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) , on September 27 of each year this body celebrates its world day. On this occasion it had been delayed twenty-four hours so as not to coincide with the festivities of other countries, since the scenario of that year was Isla de la Cartuja. The UNWTO is an agency linked to the United Nations, whose objective is the promotion and development of tourism as a way to promote the economy and international trade; As a result, an exchange was held at Expo 92 between cultures through respectful tourism with the people.
World Tourism Organization. The World Tourism Organization was created in 1975 as an intergovernmental body, and its activities and service tended to create a bridge between the private sector and the public. In 1992 it was composed of one hundred nine States and four territories and more than one hundred and sixty af liated non-governmental members of the tourism industry. They had ve permanent committees: Technical Program and Coordination, Budget and Finance, Environment, Facilitation and Security in Tourism. Among the services provided there was a plan of actions designed to improve the quality of tourism and to provide statistical information on the trends of those who traveled during their leisure time.
Pavilion of the United Nations. The UNWTO organized a seminar that day of honor on << The forecasts of world tourism until the year 2000 and after >>, in which delegations from seventytwo countries and eight af liated members attended. The celebration of this forum was preceded by an institutional act chaired by His Royal Highness the
Infanta Doña Cristina, who conveyed the message that on the occasion of the World Tourism Day his Majesty the King made. Throughout the day there were performances of folk groups in the Palenque representing several countries, which in addition to giving the note of color were a sample of the variety of cultures and peoples that could be known by tourism. save

Banesto's Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 9, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 09, 1992.
Banesto's pavilion. The of cial bank of the Olympic Games and the sponsor team of Miguel Indurรกin and Perico Delgado in that 1992, also had a presence at the Universal Exposition of Seville. The day of honor of this bank was represented not only by its highest leaders, but by the cycling group that Banesto sponsored. Banesto was one of the of cial banks of Expo 92, next to the BBV and the Central-Hispano, and counted on the premises with several banking of ces, among which was the so-called "Banesto pavilion".
Banesto was Of cial Sponsor of Expo 92. Probably, all the visitors of the Expo who have gone up to the Panoramic Tower, saw that Banesto was in Expo 92. The Banesto bank spent a total of 2 billion pesetas in all its activities in the Universal Exhibition.
Banesto lookout tower. The great tower of sixty- ve meters, located in the Gardens of the Guadalquivir, was undoubtedly one of the attractions of the exhibition. It consisted of a cabin that went up and down while rotating on its axis, with a capacity of seventy-three people, and a frequency of twelve hundred people per hour.
The construction was carried out by a German company, and was nanced by the Banesto bank, although the pro ts obtained from the sale of tickets were allocated to the State Company. But the contribution was not limited to paying for this building. Banesto had installed four of ces attended by thirty people, to exchange currency or bank transactions, either through branches or ATMs. On the Isla de la Cartuja, a kind of "pavilion" had been located during the Exhibition, as they called it, creating the image of a banking entity present and in keeping with the events of '92. Under a glazed structure that owed the water, the interior or speci cally in the center, there was a large fountain, which picked up the idea of water as a natural element and made the visitor forget that he was inside a building. Some thought it was another Expo pavilion but without queues.
Banesto's central of ce at Expo 92. The cycling team, among which was Perico Delgado and the winner of the << Giro >> and the << Tour >> of 1992, Miguel Induráin, were that day at the Expo to offer a very special gift to the mascot of the Expo. Curro wore from that day a yellow "maillot" with the signature of all the members of this team.

The Seville Electricity Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 8, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 08, 1992.
Substation of Sevillana Alamillo. The Sevillian Electricity Company celebrated that day its Day of Honor in the precinct of Isla de la Cartuja. The events were chaired by the president, Fernando de Ybarra , and the full Board of Directors. In 1988, Sevillana de Electricidad signed an electricity supply contract with the State Corporation to guarantee the supply of electricity to the Universal Exhibition site. To carry out this project called Plan Sevilla, some 5,000 million of the old pesetas were invested.
Sevillana de Electricidad- organized the contents of the Energy Pavilion of Expo'92, through which 1,800,000 visitors passed. The forecasts of additional demand for electric power in the Cartuja were oversized to 80 megawatts, although the actual maximum consumption had been 60 megawatts. This amounts to saying that the Expo site consumed what is stipulated for the historic center of the city, or if you want another example, it is equivalent to the consumption of a population of 250,000 inhabitants. Sevillana doubled the power of its metropolitan area, from 300 megawatts to 600.
Sevillana de Electricidad. The Company entered into individual power supply agreements with participants and concessionaires. The State Company of Expo 92 was its biggest client, with an approximate average of 50 percent of turnover, that was distributed among the thematic pavilions, the pavilion of Spain and the buildings Plaza de Ă frica and Plaza de AmĂŠrica, in addition to the various services as lighting, fountains, of ces, etc.
A total of 600 supplies were established to the 111 pavilions and buildings of the scenic spaces plus the Expo building. The most consumed were the pavilions of Spain, Andalusia and Canada. The turnover of other pavilions, such as Italy and France was not negligible either, reaching in some moments to eight million pesetas.
Centennial Substation on the Isla de la Cartuja. The areas of greatest consumption corresponded to refrigeration and restoration in the pavilions. The hour of least consumption in the Cartuja during the Expo corresponded to eight in the morning, when the minimum consumption in Seville took place at four in the morning.
From CEMEXPO all the electricity consumption of the Expo 92 was controlled. save

IBM's Honor Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 6, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 06, 1992.
IBM, technological partner in computer science at Expo 92. The multinational IBM in its capacity as technological partner in computer science celebrated that day its Day of Honor in the Expo 92 in the Island of the Cartuja. This day coincided with the inauguration of the computerization project of the General Archive of the Indies, which had been awarded the Gold Medal of the Fine Arts, granted by the Ministry of Culture to the Ramón Areces Foundation and IBM Spain that had supported this great work .
Expo 92 Press Center. The of cial acts of the day of honor of IBM counted on the presence of the president of IBM Spain, Joaquín Moya-Angeler Cabrera , the general director, Juan Carlos Usandizaga and the regional director, Dámaso Quintana . In the enclosure of the Island of the Cartuja the acts were limited to sign in the Book of honor, later to go to the File of the Indies. The multinational IBM contributed to the Expo the necessary computers, contributed with the "software" base, the human team of advice and consultancy and the maintenance of the entire installation.
IBM touch screen. These teams were assigned to the internal management system of Expo 92, the information system for pavilion participants and the visitor information system.
This last aspect was the most visible part of IBM's contribution to the Exhibition. It was a network of interactive information points installed in a structure in the form of a kiosk easily located in the site. Each kiosk contained seven units of information, based on a PS / 2 and high-resolution touch-sensitive screens. In addition, these units could make restaurant reservations, issue messages to other visitors to the site or answer questionnaires.
IBM touch screen. By just sliding a nger through the graphics on the screen, the system allowed the visitor to choose one of the three of cial languages of Expo 92 << Castilian, English and French >> and gave him access to a wide range of options: from the electronic tour through the exhibition site by selecting the images that most interest you, until you consult the menus of any of the arranged restaurants and, if necessary, make reservations directly. Also, by means of a code that appeared on the entrance card to the Exhibition, the visitor could identify himself before the system and send messages to other people and receive them.
One of the famous IBM kiosks in the Expo 92 site. The information on pavilions and activities was completed with access to the covers of several national and international newspapers, as well as news issued by the agency Efe. As a fun activity especially for children, the IBM system at Expo 92 allowed visitors to express their artistic creativity using the wide range of colors and different strokes that each of the screens contained. save

The National Day of Ireland is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 4, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 04, 1992.
Irish Pavilion at Expo 92. Ireland was the last foreign country to celebrate its National Day on the Island of La Cartuja on the occasion of the celebration of the Universal Exposition of Seville, after six months of intense cultural participation inside and outside the Expo. The Irish Prime Minister, Albert Reynolds , presided over the ceremonial and cultural events planned to commemorate that day the day of Ireland, led by the twinning of Ireland and Spain through amenco. The presence of this island in the Expo had been dominated by a varied cultural program, conceived to spread and make known the qualities of the country of Gulliver. The pavilion's curator, Denis Rafter, an actor from the age of seven, arrived in Seville with a very xed idea about the cultural activities they presented.
Irish ag. Culture was one of the best ways to spread a product and the curator of the Irish pavilion spared no effort to bring more than two hundred artists to the Expo. The cultural program had been like a Trojan Horse, since through it Ireland had always been present. The budget of the Irish pavilion had been around seven hundred million pesetas, of which more than half was destined for the construction of the building. The Irish pavilion hosted over one and a half million visitors over the six months, three times what they had originally expected.
Entrance pavilion of Ireland.
The Irish pavilion was located on the Avenue of Europe and was distinguished by its green color, like its island, and by the logo in the shape of a caravel. This design was awarded as the best international logo of Expo 92. The Irish pavilion emerged from a rock, with a structure that evoked the towers that mark the Irish coastal landscape. Tradition and culture, as main axes of its contents, turned the pavilion into a cultural meeting place between Ireland and the other countries. This republic offered the visitor the image of a town that enjoys a privileged place in the eld of literature and other artistic manifestations. The route began when the visitor reached a beautiful coast, located on a large European map. At rst, the origin of the name of Ireland and the legend of Mils and his son Ir were referred to, disembarking in Skelling Michael. This maritime promontory, where a Christian monastery was located, served as the beginning of the visitor's historical journey of evangelization on the island, following the steps of Brendan.
Ireland at Expo 92. St. Brendan was a monk known for his trip to the American continent, ten centuries before Christopher Columbus arrived. The visitor traveled with him thanks to the assembly of slides, videos and narration in off, where his oceanic route was shown, the type of boat, how it was built and the clothes and provisions that they took.
Interior Ireland Pavilion. Spain had been closely linked to Ireland for centuries; from the Celtic legends to the Irish schools founded by the Spanish Crown, and that in Seville, for example, continued open. The visitor also learned about the presence of the Irish in prominent positions in the Navy, the Army and the Administration of our country, in the 18th century.
Interior of the Ireland Pavilion. On the rst oor were the contributions of this country to the progress of humanity, such as Dunlop, inventor of the pneumatic tire; Color photography, by Joly or the division of the atom, by Walton. A large photo showed the Birr telescope, with three-dimensional images of Newgrange's winter solstice. Â The reproduction of a typical Irish "pub" was recreated with its atmosphere, as a meeting center that was recreating in a corner of the pavilion, promoting the Harp Lager beer and the Baileys. The streets and the Irish houses had been perfectly recreated. In a corner the walls showed with graf ti, where they could be read in Spanish things like: << There are always people who come out in the shadows >>, << Carpe diem >> and << I prefer to die standing than to live on my knees >>.

The Valencia Community Day of Honor is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 10, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 10, 1992.
Pavilion of the Valencian Community in Expo 92. Valencia was the last autonomous community that celebrated its Day of Honor two days after the closing of the Universal Exhibition. Throughout those six months this Spanish region offered the best of its culture and festive feeling. Until Carthusian lands came the Bon res of San Juan, the festival of Moors and Christians, the parade-concert of children's fashion with the participation of one hundred and fty children, the tribute to King Jaime I the Conqueror and a macro concert of wind, to mention only the most signi cant
Valencian Community Flag.
The last hall of the pavilion was dedicated to temporary exhibitions. For it they passed from the beginning of the Expo, << The beginning in the Valencian Community >>, << Artists in the Mediterranean >> .
Ceiling restaurant of the pavilion of the Valencian Community. Valencia also had to leave a record in the Universal Exhibition of its universal dish: the paella. Hundreds of people left with the memory of the famous Valencian rices in their different specialties. save

The National Day of Spain is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on October 12, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - October 12, 1992.
Spanish Pavilion during Expo 92. After six months full of activity, party and cultural exchange that day took place the closing day of the Universal Exposition of Seville in 1992. Spain , as the host country of all the nations that had attended the show, reserved for the end its Day National in the Charterhouse. This culminated an intense semester in which not only was the success of his pavilion evident, clearly evident in the long queues that day after day came to collapse the doors of the Spanish pavilion.
National ag of Spain. There were many factors that helped the success of the Spanish representation in the Expo; its privileged situation presiding over the lake and Avenida de Europa at the same time; the fact of being the host country; and above all, its contents. Although on this last point it would be necessary to af rm that the favorite one of the visitors had been without a doubt, the cinema Movimas with the projection << Winds of Spain >> that got to receive in its room, with a capacity of 162 seats, about 5.600 people daily
Movimas Cinema in Spain Pavilion.
This lm allowed the assistant to enter the screen and move at the same time that the action took place; so that you have the feeling of riding a camel, riding a horse, windsur ng or feeling the vertigo of traveling in a balloon. Throughout those six months, people could be seen waiting at the gates to access the venue before nine o'clock in the morning, which once saw the passage free, undertook a quick race to the ticket of ces of the Spanish pavilion to access to the longed for projection.
Entrance to the Spanish Pavilion from Avenida Camino de los Descubrimientos. But that taquillero success was shared, although to a lesser extent, by the section that was entitled << Roads of Spain >>. This exhibition was divided into seven rooms where a journey through history, culture, language, the present and the future of Spain was made. The decoration and the assembly contributed to awaken that curiosity in the public and, of course, to obtain its approval. This was encouraged in the next room, in which an audiovisual montage explained what the meeting between the Old and the New World meant.
Interior pavilion of Spain. But the best room of << Roads >> was the language room. In it, the beloved Don Quixote and Sancho in a computer animation lm, spoke to us about the Spanish language, its evolution and worldwide implantation. The next stay was the public's favorite. In it through 15 screens were shown the present of our country through the laser, an " animated computer" , and a set of screens that rose and revealed a curious element such as a boat, a car, a robot that picked oranges , etc. Mobility and surprise played a decisive role that made the public, standing, move from one corner to another in the room looking for the next attraction.
Animated computer in the exhibition Roads of Spain. << Roads of Spain >> culminated with a message sent by the voice of a 21st century astronaut who claimed to be a descendant of someone who visited the Spanish pavilion; In addition, information was offered through ten computers and seven interactive "compact-discs".
Spanish Pavilion
The exhibition << Treasures of Spanish art >> was a show of luxury, which deserved unanimous praise. In it you could admire quality works such as " La maja desnuda" , by Goya ; << The knight of the hand on the chest >>, del Greco ; << Portrait of the Count Duke of Olivares >>, by Velázquez ; << Corpus hypercubicus >> by Dalí ; << Night shing in Antibes >>, by Picasso ; << Gallegas en la ventana >>, by Murillo and others by authors such as Zurbarán, Miró, Alonso Cano,
Interior pavilion of Spain. This tour of Spanish art in which there was a unique opportunity to appreciate so many works together, had been completed by the exhibition << Pasajes >>, by which most visitors, almost honoring the name of the same They had passed by. It offered << The big bathtub >>, by Tapies ; << The hidden water or the interior navigator >>, by Pérez Villalta ; << Goya's dog >>, by Antonio Saura ; or << Taula negra >> by Barceló .

The Universal Exhibition of Seville 1992 is closed. Posted on October 12, 2017 Special Expo-Hemeroteca - October 12, 1992.
The pavilion of Spain was the protagonist during the closing day of Expo 92. The logos of Expo'92 and Cartuja 93 , cast on the water screen of the lake of Spain, is the last image that the 100,000 people who attended that day at the closing ceremony of the Universal Exposition of Seville have in their retina . Hundreds of thousands of people visited the pavilions of the Expo 92 in Seville on the last day, a fundamental part of the Spanish celebrations in the year of the V Centenary of the discovery of America. The security personnel kept a close watch on the 215 hectares of the exhibition, while the Spanish royal family and the cabinet were present at the closing ceremony of the Expo, after six months of exhibition.
Royal Family and President of the Government before the closing of the Exhibition. A oh! from the crowd he greeted the solemn words of " the Expo is already history " that put the colophon to the speech of King Juan Carlos I from the terrace of the pavilion of Spain. At 22:45, the sphere, the emblem of the exhibition, let loose and rose in the Sevillian sky. It was over. At least the of cial Expo, because the desire to party workers and visitors, treasured for six months of almost uninterrupted work, prevailed over the relente that was felt on the last night of the Show in La Cartuja.
Fireworks during the night (Photography Group Joly). It all started before ten o'clock at night. Two hours earlier, the Royal Family offered a reception at the Royal Pavilion, which was attended by several hundred guests.
Lake show. The Kings, the Prince of Asturias and the infantas Elena and Cristina arrived at the Spanish pavilion aboard one of the catamarans that served as a uvial transport between the city of Seville and the La Cartuja site during the 176 days of the exhibition . After contemplating the spectacle of the lake, seasoned with a few extra reworks and the ight, sky above, of the in atable moon at the end, Don Juan Carlos took the oor. << Only the express gratitude "with singular affection to the people of Seville who has made this Universal Exhibition his own" >> started a warm applause from the audience before the real announcement ended.
The reworks lled the closing day of Expo 92 with color. (EFE). Two giant screens, the Sony Plaza and the facade of the Spanish pavilion , retransmitted the King's speech live. Absolute silence, only the monorail and the cable cars continued in the dark their usual route during the farewell of the King to the Expo.
Projection of the closing ceremony in the cube of the ag of Spain. This time around 100,000 people surrounded the lake of Spain for the last time. The nal reworks were the reworks that in twelve different points of La Cartuja turned this into a true multicolored island. When the lights of the streets of the Expo were nished and the lights went on again, it was possible to see how, with dissimulation, some visitors dried their tears and others prepared for their particular party.
Views from the lake of Spain. And the following year, in October 1993, he took over the reins of Cartuja93 (Actual PCT Cartuja), a project initiated in 1989 by the Junta de AndalucĂa that would commission the Research Project on New Technologies in Andalusia to a group of specialists. In the PINTA Project, the Cartuja 93 Project was included as a unique initiative as a proposal for the creation of a Technological Innovation medium for Andalusia in the grounds of the 1992 Universal Exposition.
Cartuja 93. A year before the start of this project, in 1988, the State Society Expo'92 had proposed to the countries and participating companies the possibility of building permanent pavilions, provided that their subsequent use was integrated into a Scienti c and Technological set.
Cartuja 93 Project The objective was to lay the infrastructure foundations to build an attractive location for scienti c research and dissemination centers and high-tech innovative companies.

The National Day of Austria is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 4, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 04, 1992.
Austria at Expo 92. Austria was the rst country that presented rst all the necessary documents to attend the Universal Exposition of Seville . The Austrian country celebrated its National Day on the Island of the Cartuja with a representation of more than a hundred dignitaries, headed by its federal president, Thomas Klestil . Under the slogan << Austria, a live impulse in Europe >>, the country of classical traditions had presented at the Exhibition an avant-garde pavilion where the environment and technology were the protagonists. The cradle of the classics appeared in the Universal Exhibition as a comfortable place to do tourism and bene t from the living conditions that modern times provide, always guarded by ecology.
The president of Austria Thomas Klestil, during his visit to the Expo 92 on the day of honor to his country. The architect Rainer Verbizh and the designer Volker Giencke , moved this idea to a scenario of natural, artistic and acoustic landscapes. A large glass cover, which started from the ground, allowed to take advantage of all the hours of the sun are to suffer the direct incidences of the solar rays. A structure of aluminum grids prevented this annoying phenomenon from occurring. The transparent roof linked at all times to the visitor to the rest of the enclosure, which could be glimpsed through the two large glazed irons.
Austrian Pavilion at Expo 92. The absence of walls and partitions caused the contents to be introduced as the elements that complement them: rocks, vegetation and water. On the sloping roof owed a screen of water that fed the inner ponds of the pavilion.
The idea of the project was to create a landscape within the landscape that was the Charterhouse, achieved with the exterior vision and the play of natural and arti cial lights. Without a doubt it was a construction that went as far as possible from the architectural hardness of the solid frameworks, a bet for the technique disguised as a natural environment.
Austrian Pavilion. The entrance to the pavilion had two important claims that announced in a way that is what could be found inside. Masts without ags of a exible material issued different sounds when balanced. With a slight vibration could be heard from exalted opera voices to sobs of a child. They also installed in the access door another of the most remembered symbols of this pavilion, the heavy granite stone that could be moved with just a nger, as long as the water pressure jets on which it rested were in operation.
Granite stone over jets of water at the entrance to the Austrian Pavilion. This piece was given by a casino company to the city of Vienna, where it was located after the completion of the Expo. Although Austria was not a leader in the robot industry in those years, it was at the forefront in new technologies and appeared as an international supplier. Once again, they did not want to fall into the aseptic and dehumanized exhibition, so they had devised a very peculiar robot.
Interior of the Austrian Pavilion. It consisted of an arm surrounded by transparent baseboards that contained various objects of the country, which were raised to the rhythm of waltz. The piece of robotics was showing them with an oscillating and subtle rhythm to the music, returning them to their place in an orderly manner. Among the things he taught were objects as curious as a parco or a Porsche. Actually it was an orderly sequence, where the robot was presenting eleven of the most modern products of the Austrian technological industry. In addition, monitors offered detailed images of the application of this science and the manufacturing process.
Interior of the Austrian Pavilion. Relations between Spain and Austria were also present through the historical passages of the Habsburg Empire. The slogan of Emperor Maximilian, "You, Austria happy, marries" made the country always governed by a strict marriage policy. In 1496, he married his son Felipe, nicknamed << el Hermoso >>, with the daughter of the Catholic Kings, Juana de Castilla. These nuptials were the rst stone of the reign of more than two hundred years of the House of Austria in Spain. This link was not forgotten in the 92 event, and had its rst fruits in a double exhibition Toledo-Insbruck during 1992.
Flag of Austria. But what the children of the time and the older ones who could enter this pavilion remember, was the opportunity to check the sensation of sliding through the snow. With the ski simulator, the visitor was placed in a visual situation in which this sport activity could be performed with image and sound without moving from the pavilion. The visitor was placed in the simulator inside a large gure that represented a skier in the descent position. This hollow gure was closed to insulate the skier as much as possible.

The Spanish Government was represented by the Minister of Culture Jordi Solé Tura, who was especially grateful for the presence of Greece at the Expo because it represented in its pavilion a vision of the past and the future that fostered cooperative relations among all, which was also the purpose of the Expo especially because this is the place where democracy originated. Once the speeches were over, Stavros Xarchakos and his orchestra played typical songs and then some folk dances from this country played by a group of young Greeks. The contents of the pavilion were divided into four sections: goldsmithing, technology, navigation and tourism. At the entrance of the pavilion was located ve stands with gold and silver jewelry designer Ilias Lalaounis. The pieces were inspired by ancient jewels, in a long period ranging from 3,000 BC to the 15th century.
Interior of the Greek Pavilion (Photo worldexpositions.info). With the theme << Greece and the Sea >>, this Mediterranean country was represented by a small pavilion whose outstanding features are reminiscent of the buildings of classical Greek architecture. The rst thing that was in the interior was a section dedicated to the navigation with reproductions to scale of boats of all times including a ship of the year 1500 BC. Then the visitor goes to the archeology section, where there was no original piece since the Greek law prevents them from being taken abroad, but copies of magni cent quality, above all of classic sculptures.

The National Day of Honduras is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 11, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 11, 1992.
Honduran Pavilion in Plaza de América. Honduras celebrated its National Day at the Expo presided over by the vice president, Jacobo Hernández. The acts were carried out by groups of Garífuna dances and the National Table of Folk Dances, that acted throughout the day in the Palenque and in diverse scenic spaces. The Honduran pavilion was located on the second oor of the Plaza de América, along with fteen other Latin American countries. The facade was distinguished by the reproduction of Fort San Fernando de Omoa. Fortress made of berglass, which represented the clay brick, the coral block and the stone llings with which the building was actually built.
Flag of Honduras. At the entrance to the Honduran pavilion there was a monitor that broadcast every twenty minutes a message from the president, Rafael Callejas, and a documentary with landscapes of Honduras, shown to the rhythm of the typical music of the country. Once inside the pavilion, the rst thing you saw was a map of the country. Honduras borders the South with El Salvador and the Paci c Ocean, to the East with Nicaragua, to the West with Guatemala and to the North with the Caribbean Sea. The Mayan legacy was the main protagonist of the rst part of the pavilion, represented through the reproduction of the Copán ruins. The Mayans constituted one of the civilizations of greater cultural development of the prehispanic America and its legacy was one of the main tourist attractions of this country.
The Mayan legacy present in the Honduras Pavilion.
The Mayan people continued being basically unknown, since they had not been able to decipher some hieroglyphs of the monuments that were developed in Mesoamerica, in Yucatan, in Mexico and in the West of Honduras. On the green carpet that covered the oor of the pavilion were placed the "stelae" or monoliths, dating from the year seven hundred after Christ, whose characters were found in reality with numerous adornments of oxidia and jade, precious minerals that bear witness to the nobility and the authority of these men. Next to the stele there were two showcases in whose interior you could see an original censer or "Jaguar" ceramic and a volcanic stone to grind.
Interior Honduran Pavilion. The vegetal paradise that constituted the << Pulhapanza >> cataracts was symbolized in a corner of the pavilion by a tub with water, made of berglass that de nes the river and the mountains covered with arti cial vegetation. << The visitors threw coins every day in the three fountains of the pavilion, in uenced by the European culture that conveyed the idea of luck for those who make a wish while throwing it. In the main part was located the altar or "Estela Q", a reproduction of this extraordinary monument whose upper part was sculpted with numerous hieroglyphics. The route continued climbing up some great staircases, made to scale on the stands that served the public of Copán to witness the religious ceremonies that took place on these monuments. Behind the staircase was a space dedicated to the islands of the Bay, an important tourist spot for its reef and coral banks, represented through a large photograph of a beautiful and desirable beach. The wooden oor, the arti cial vegetation and the water symbolized a traditional house on the edge of the sea. In this space there was not even a hammock hanging between two trees that the visitor could buy in the store for the price of 7,500 pesetas. save

The National Day of Italy is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 10, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 10, 1992.
Pavilion of Italy. On September 10, 1992, the National Day of Italy was celebrated at Expo 92 . The President of the Republic of Italy, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, led the ceremonial and cultural events prepared to celebrate the great day of Italy on the Island of La Cartuja. A parade in which members of the Italian infantry corps, four hundred sailors from two Navy schools and some thirty Carabinieri participated, toured the streets of the city and the Expo, in honor of the National Day of Italy. In addition, three planes, each painted with a color of the Italian ag (red, green and white) over ew the Sevillian sky.
Italian ag. Italy baptized its pavilion with the name of << Palace Italy >> because according to the words of the architect Aulenti she has that will of the palaces to endure in time. Italy invested a total of 2,000 million pesetas for its participation in the Expo.
Pavilion of Italy during Expo 92. The rst vision that was obtained when entering this pavilion during the Expo was of three large spheres suspended in the air. The largest represented the Earth as it was known in antiquity. The public could enter it through a corridor and attend an audiovisual show with laser images on the adventure of man and knowledge, called << Energy >>.
Interior Pavilion of Italy. The second, smaller sphere represented the Moon, made in such a way as to show its other face, which remains invisible to the terrestrial viewer. The third sphere was Mars. The Earth, Mars and the Moon, emblematic symbols of the history of knowledge, of man's desire to conquer new horizons.
Interior Pavilion of Italy. The starting point of the tour was the exhibition ¿Por qué Colón ?, the adventure of Christopher Columbus focused as a result of a series of symbolic factors that united the past and the present of the intellectual challenge by that date. For this reason works of art of antiquity were shown like the << Glasses of Vicarello >>, four silver vessels of cylindrical form that had recorded the itinerary from Cádiz to Rome with indication of the distances in miles between the different stations; the bronze door of the church of San Salvatore de Birecto de Atrani (Salerno) from the 11th century, or the << Atlante Farnese >>. The exhibition area of the second oor was opened with the so-called << Theater of research >>. On the basis of a table, reproduced by the Institute of Science of the University of Bologna in 1700, a historical synthesis of scienti c research was shown along with the latest advances in this eld.
Interior Pavilion of Italy. The next room, << Inside life >> was covered with images of the interior of the human body (x-rays, tac, ultrasound). Equally noteworthy was the hologram of << The chromosphere of sport >> and << The game of restoration >>, excellent interactive << brain power >>, the rst and largest of the << rainbow >> holograms that had been generated by calculator. When leaving this section the public was with an interactive cabin, << The chromosphere >> of the Italian Olympic Committee. The machine offered a pilot and two passengers the thrill of a trip simulated in time. << The years of sports >>, was the interactive audiovisual that was shown.
Interior Pavilion of Italy. The physical and astronomical discoveries of Galileo Galilei, the perspective of Piero della Francesca (famous master of the Italian Renaissance) and the trips of Marco Polo and Christopher Columbus, were part of the theme that enclosed the area dedicated to the << World: sky and earth >>
Interior Pavilion of Italy. As soon as he entered the rst room, a copy of Galileo's pendulum, as a way of alluding to his concept of relativity, attracted a lot of attention. This is not the only reference that could be found about the considered founder of the modern method of scienti c experimentation. Some research instruments, a compass of proportion, an astrolabe, a spyglass and a telescope, were exhibited in glass cases in the Italian pavilion. Other objects also formed part of this room, such as the armillary sphere of Girolamo della Volpaia of 1564; two balloons by Vicenzo Coronelli, one terrestrial in 1688 and another celestial one in 1693; the << Astrario >>, by Giovanni Dondi from the 14th century, the rst planetary clock made in the West capable of describing, at every moment, the situation of the stars, as well as a wooden model of the 18th century Brera astronomical observatory.
Wooden model of the 18th century Brera astronomical observatory. We reach the last area of the second oor, dedicated to matter and energy. A platform for the exploitation of hydrocarbon reservoirs in deep waters, the model of a ship whose function is the placement of long-range pipelines in deep water up to three thousand meters and another of a facility for the production of methane, were some samples of this room.
Logo of the Pavilion of Italy in Expo 92. Technique and culture were represented on the third oor of the Italian pavilion. Together with the historical objects of Italian research in the eld of electricity: Alessandro Volta's battery, Pacinotti's electric motor were some of the references of this room.
Gina Lollobrígida with her work in the Pabellón de Italia. The last oor of the pavilion was dedicated to the different regions of Italy, with the presentation of its most characteristic products. Each region had a computer that provided more detailed information about it. Before leaving the pavilion in an access on the ground oor you could visit a Ferrari car exhibition, as well as contemplate the sculptural work of one of the lm stars of Italy, Gina Lollobrígida. The work, in bronze, entitled << It's beautiful to live together >>, represented a huge eagle with open wings, mounted by a child. save

The Honor Day of Asturias is celebrated in Expo 92. Posted on September 9, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 9, 1992.
Asturias Pavilion during Expo 92. The region of green landscapes and blast furnaces celebrated that day at the Expo its Day of Honor presided by Juan Luis Rodríguez-Vigil , president of the Principality of Asturias. Speaking of Asturias in Expo 92 is talking about the year 1990, date in which the Principality of Asturias decided to create a public society, << Asturias 92 >>, through the Regional Promotion Society, responsible for managing everything related to the participation of this Autonomous Community in the Universal Exhibition of Seville. This society was made up of different companies of the private sector that participated as sponsors.
Flag of Asturias. The Asturian pavilion was nanced by the Principality, with a cost that was exceeded in the initial budgets. The pavilion of Asturias was erected on a plot of 1,440 square meters, with an available area of more than 2,000 square meters spread over four oors. The construction company Procoin was in charge of executing the project of the Catalan architects Ramón Muñoz Jordán and Antonio San Martín Gabas, winners of the contest that the Principality of Asturias convened for the occasion of the design of the pavilion.
Asturias Pavilion.
Most of the materials used in its construction, especially wood, iron, and steel, were of Asturian origin, used so that the structure could be dismantled when the Exhibition ended and the pavilion moved to its Community where it remains today as Museum of the People of Asturias.
Asturias Pavilion next to the rest of autonomic pavilions. The party of Asturias in Expo 92 had a tight program that included different varieties of music, lm, theater and regional cuisine. The ceremonial acts of the day of honor were inaugurated by the Principality Symphony Orchestra and the choir of the Prince of Asturias Foundation in Palenque, a place that housed folkloric and neo-folk groups from different Asturian towns. In the Asturias pavilion, visitors were entertained with traditional music and a "preñao" cider and scones tasting. The president of the Principality of Asturias highlighted during that day the complexity and high cost of moving the building to his community and also highlighted the success and surprise capacity of the Asturian pavilion, in his own words Rodríguez Vigil, indicated that the pavilion had reached two months after the end of the Exhibition, a million visitors, a pavilion that contained very strong promotional aspects, such as gastronomy or cider house that expanded from Expo 92 its link to a local product to a product known throughout the continent national.
The President of the Principality of Asturias, Juan Luis Rodríguez Vigil, delivers a speech on the occasion of the celebration of Asturias Day at the Universal Exposition of Seville (EFE). On the other hand, the general commissioner of the Expo 92, Emilio Cassinello, emphasized in his speech that the Spain of the autonomies, represented in the Universal Exhibition, not only left surprised the foreign visitors, but also the Spaniards, likewise, He expressed the originality of the Asturias Pavilion and indicated that they had recreated with the techniques of the scenography what is Asturias, what it was and what it wants to be. save

The United Nations and Unesco Honors Day is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 8, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 08, 1992.
United Nations Pavilion at Expo 92. The United Nations System , and in particular Unesco , had their Day of Honor at the Universal Exposition of Seville that September 8, 1992, coinciding with the International Literacy Day. HRH Infanta Cristina presided over the of cial events in the company of the Director General of Unesco, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, and the UndersecretaryGeneral of the UN, Joseph Verner Reed, representing the Egyptian Butros Ghali.
Unesco In Palenque that day was given by Unesco to the winners for World Literacy Day, a ceremony that took place annually in Paris. The great goal of Unesco during those rst years of the decade of the 90s, was to eradicate the lack of culture in the world, for that reason this organization was founded in 1946, which counted until 1992 with 159 member states.
United Nations. Meanwhile, the United Nations System emerged after the Second World War as a brake on possible future con icts, as well as to extend human rights to the entire planet. During his rst forty-seven years he had many problems to make those goals a reality, since he was already born conditioned by the struggle between the superpowers. But you can not forget his positive actions that came to alleviate or avoid many evils. save

The National Day of Brazil is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 7, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 07, 1992.
National Day of Brazil in Expo 92 (Photography Marta Arjona). The Republic of Brazil celebrated that day its National Day in the precinct of Isla de la Cartuja. The of cial acts were chaired by the Brazilian writer Joao Cabral de Melo, representative of the Consulate of his country in Seville. Within the show program, the most outstanding was the carnival parade that toured the Expo 92 site. A parade that was modeled after the Samba Schools of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival and its "wings" (sections) They were composed by participants from more than forty countries.
Horseback riding through the grounds of the Isla de la Cartuja. The cavalcade organized by Brazil on its national day took its name: " United of the Cartuja" and began in the vicinity of Palenque, starting the march front group, formed by Curro with a mulatto dressed in a fantasy of luxury, followed by the section composed of all the ags of the participating pavilions. The main course was the section of Brazil, dressed with fantasies characteristic of the carnival.
Brazil's ag. The contents of the Brazilian pavilion represented the different regions of this country through stagings and representative objects such as gaucho trappings, carnival costumes or models of the urban projects carried out in the capital Brasilia. But if anything brought the audience together, it was the Brazilian mulatto girls who, at samba rhythm, collapsed around the pavilion several times a day, resounding their music throughout the Plaza de AmĂŠrica.
The celebration of Brazil for the entire Plaza de America building. The journey through the interior began with a winding path. On the sides were two photographic reproductions of the colonial period. The rst room was dedicated to Rio de Janeiro. They could see a series of mannequins adapted for the carnival. In this room, characters belonging to the imperialist era were reproduced, such as the Emperors Pedro I and Pedro II, of cers and black servants.
Mannequins adapted for the carnival inside the pavilion of Brazil. The second room was dedicated to Minas Gerรกis, an area that extends north and east of the State of Rio de Janeiro and that stood out as an industrial pole. The traditional transformation of raw materials had been joined by automobile manufacturing industries and other mechanical and textile industries. Point of convergence of the sertaneros, (poor peasants of the interior) eeing from the misery of the northeast.
Interior Brazil Pavilion, (Pantanal). In the Brazilian pavilion, a sample of ancestral rites could also be seen through their gods, << Orixas >>, They were gures representing the forces of the earth: the struggle for dominance, fertility and prosperity of crops.
Interior Brazil Pavilion. The ceramic sculptures of Pernambucano artist Francisco Brennand and a " jangada" or sherman's boat made with tied logs were outstanding in this room .
After the room dedicated to Brasilia, the curious could go into the << pantanal >>. The staging was based on white roots and mirrors. Copies of the wild animals characteristic of the area could be seen behind the crystals. What most struck the visitor was the aquarium, where the fearsome piranhas were observed. The last two rooms of this pavilion were dedicated to the southern region and the city of Sao Paulo. save

The National Day of Mexico is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 16, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 16, 1992.
Pavilion of Mexico. Mexico, whose National Day at Expo 92 coincided with the commemoration of the 182nd anniversary of its independence with Spain, highlighted the interest of its people to keep alive the ame of union and prosperity with the Spanish. For her part, the Government spokesperson, Rosa Conde, who acted as acting representative, praised the contents of the Mexican Pavilion at the Universal Exhibition and highlighted its broad meaning.
Mexico in Expo 92. The presence of Mexico in the Universal Exhibition of Seville obeyed the explicit desire to endorse friendship with Spain, with these words the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country, Fernando Solana welcomed all the public that gathered on September 16 1992 at Palenque to celebrate Mexican National Day at Expo 92.
Mexican ag. Fernando Solana also referred to the achievements and successes achieved at the Ibero-American Summit held in Madrid that same year and con rmed the decision along with the Latin American countries to strengthen relations with Spain and Portugal.
His big X were the symbol of the pavilion. To end his speech, Fernando Solana also praised the sense of the organization of the show, which he said he hoped would not be tarnished with merely statistical indexes that were given after the closure. It was the general curator of the Expo, Emilio Cassinello, who recalled a curious similarity between Mexico and Spain, <<because their names concur in the singular . << It is not a game of letters, pointed out >> , << we carry the idiosyncrasy marked by the persistent X of the intertwined destinies of the continuous crossing of the roads, the races and the cultures; and we are touched by the Ñ, letter with quijotesca heraldic nishing, that warns of mystical and harshly sensual outcomes >> , said Cassinello day.
Pabellón de México, (Photography by Santiago Prieto). To end the memory of the National Day of Mexico we must remember in the Expo-Hemeroteca its fantastic pavilion, faithful legacy of that Universal Exhibition. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez was the architect of such a peculiar structure, also the author of the project of the IOC pavilion. Its architecture forms a at pyramid (imitating the pre-Columbian Aztec temples). It consists of two spaces: a building with two oors, which was accessed during the Expo by a ramp, which ended in an X of 18 meters high that showed the crossing and integration of cultures.
Pavilion of Mexico during its construction. The visitor during the Universal Exhibition went through a curtain of water to enter the interior exhibition. On the roof today still retains some models that reproduced the most representative temples of Mexico also in that 92 visitors could enjoy a palenque for outdoor shows, where one end was planted typical Mexican vegetation. The contents of this fantastic pavilion showed a multicultural and multi-ethnic process of Mexican identity. There was also a two-hour daily connection with Mexico to integrate Mexicans into the Expo'92 project. save

The National Day of Lithuania is celebrated at Expo 92. Posted on September 6, 2017 Hemeroteca Expo - September 06, 1992.
Pavilion of the Baltic Republics. The Baltic Republic of Lithuania celebrated that day its National Day in the enclosure of the Island of the Cartuja. The of cial acts were attended by the Head of State of Lithuania, Vitautas Landsbergis . Lithuania, the largest country of the three Baltic Republics, shared pavilion with Estonia and Latvia, the other two Baltic Republics. The structure of the building was a large white tent where the contents of Estonia and Lithuania were distributed, since the representation of Latvia was symbolic. At the entrance to the pavilion, a metal platform was installed, from which nine pillars evoked the windmills. On these, and instead of antlers, other televisions were installed dedicated to show the ethnic, cultural and historical diversity of these territories. .
Flag of Lithuania. The section dedicated to Lithuania was located to the left of the room. The exhibition was divided between old maps, wood carvings and the section dedicated to amber. The cups of the maps showed the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The interest of the Lithuanian section was to offer the different manifestations of popular crafts. There were engravings with religious representation next to wooden sculptures. The carvings in oak wood were small sculptures with religious images, like the apostle Santiago, Santa Bรกrbara or Santa Ana. In some the hodgepodge between the religious and the profane art could be observed. In Lithuania they were scattered along the paths, like niches. Trying to look as much as possible to their original location, the statuettes had been placed on pillars arranged four by four.
Amber, the gold of the Baltic, appreciated by scientists.
The most surprising thing that Lithuania presented were insects fossilized in amber. Through glass cases with magnifying glass, could be seen, at twice its actual size, spiders, cockroaches and various insects, some of which are more than 5,000 years old. Amber is considered to be the " Lithuanian gold" , not only because of its abundance, but because it has long had barter value. On two shelves were exposed pieces of raw amber, as well as beads and small archaeological objects made with this resin. It is currently used to make costume jewelery, which was also exhibited in a stand in the pavilion with bracelets and necklaces. save
