The East Bay Claims Association is hosting their 16th annual Golf Tournament Friday, July 21, 2017. Back at the ever-popular Eagle Vines Golf Course in Napa, the annual classic serves as the organization’s primary fund raising activity. Net proceeds from each tournament provide the association with the ability to contribute to local charitable causes. Sign up now at: www.EastBayClaims.org. A week later, the Sacramento Claims Association will be hosting their annual SCA Family Night at the River-

cats Baseball game. This annual event is always a fun time at the ballpark. Being held Friday, July 28, 2017 at Raley Field, it’s the Sacramento Rivercats - now the SF Giants AAA affiliate - taking on the Round Rock Express, out of Round Rock Texas. Tickets include a nice BBQ dinner for just $35, and some limited sponsorships may still be available. Get in on it now! Go to: www.SacramentoClaims.org And, the Mid-Valley Claims Association is pleased to announce that Mr. Don Perkins, founder of Fire Cause Analysis, will be their featured guest speaker at the next luncheon meeting, Friday, July 28, 2017. Friday, December 15 Holiday Luncheon Meeting

Dear Mid-Valley Members: We hope that you are enjoying your summer, so far! One highlight of your summer will be the Mid-Valley Claims luncheon on July 28th (we have changed the date of our luncheon, so as not to conflict with the East Bay Golf Tournament on July 21st). We are honored to have as our guest speaker Donald J. Perkins, the President of Fire Cause Analysis. Don will be speaking on: “Large Loss Fires – A Team Approach”. Please be sure to attend this luncheon. If you RSVP to Staci Moreno at 209-603-5006 before July 24th, you will receive a free raffle ticket for a special prize at that luncheon. Unfortunately, Marvin and I and several other individuals in our Association had to be out of town for our last luncheon. Tom Shefchick was our speaker and I have been told that he did an excellent job! It is sad that so many of us had to miss his presentation and we are hopeful that Tom will agree to speak again in the coming months. We were unable to secure the support of sponsors for our golf tournament, in time to move forward with that event. Therefore, we are in the process of trying to plan either a bowling party or a winery party for all of us and will keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing all of you on July 28th at Dave Wong’s at 11:30 a.m. Respectfully submitted,

Electrical Property Damage Claims Shared at June MVCA By Bryan Harrison

Thomas Shefchick, PE, the featured guest speaker at the June luncheon meeting of the Mid-Valley Claims Association, shared several highlights from the innumerable forensic cases he has worked in a long indutrious career. A specialist in investigating Electrical Property Damage issues, Tom offered an array of cases that dealt with fire cause and other electrical damage results. He encouraged claims people, and all involved, to leave the scene of a claim as un-touched as possible, in order to assist those, like a forensic electrical engineer, to be able to do a proper investigation. Mr. Shefchick has been an Independent Consulting Electrical Engineer since 1983. He holds a PE designation “in California and several other states,” he said.

Tom is a Fellow of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers & American Academy of Forensic Sciences. His extension career of work, on both domestic and foreign cases, dates back as far as 1969. For more on his background and/or services, go to: www.shefchick.com.

MVCA Board Member, Tom Shefchick, PE, was the June meeting guest speaker.

MVCA Treasurer, and past President, Staci Moreno, welcomed attendees Several slides from a couple of the cases that Mr. Shefchick discussed.

MVCA Vice President, Mary Parker, far left, rean the June meeting, and introduced Mr. Shefchick. Bob Archuleta and Board member John Tucker also pictured.

DH Construction Named SBA “Contractor of the Year” June 21, 2017 – Sacramento, CA

Ralph Dinwiddie

DH Construction has been selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration (Sacramento District Office) as the 2017 “Contractor of the Year”. The final decision was made in Washington DC, after two qualifying rounds were processed locally to narrow the field from the largest number of nominees ever received in the history of the awards. Criteria

for selection included contributions to the community in addition to professional success. Founding Partner Ralph Dinwiddie received his California General Contractor’s license in 1978. He established DH Construction in 1992, choosing to specialize in insurance claim-related reconstruction after experiencing the strong emotional impact often connected to this type of project. “Destruction of their home has caused grown men to openly weep in his arms,” he said. Realizing he could achieve powerful positive outcomes, Mr. Dinwiddie has carefully built his team to project empathy & professionalism with this often fragile clientele. Now licensed in Nevada as well, DH Construction covers the greater Reno area, south to Stockton and north to Redding. With 50+ employees, their company culture is designed to foster solid relationships as the basis for effectively moving projects forward.
