The April Sampson Cancer Center is rapidly nearing completion as construction teams work diligently to bring the vision to life. The final touches promise a state-of-the-art facility that will stand as a beacon of hope from South Lincoln. With phased opening starting in March 2024, the anticipation is growing for this vital addition to our community’s health care landscape.

Same quality care, lower outpatient price

Since inception less than a year ago, the team has found cancer and started treatment for six patients, who otherwise would not have been diagnosed as early. “This program has been a true success so far,” said Dr. Ryan Martin, medical director for Bryan’s lung cancer program and pulmonologist Ryan Martin, MD with Nebraska Pulmonary Specialties. “Finding these cancers earlier means a better prognosis and better quality of life for these people. We look forward to expanding the program this year to help even more patients with expedited diagnosis and treatment.”

Lung Nodule Review Board Successes To detect lung cancer at a more treatable stage, Bryan became one of six percent of hospitals to create a multidisciplinary lung nodule program. The lung nodule review board meets weekly to review CT scans where lung nodules have been identified.

Bryan High Risk and Cancer Prevention Clinic is Underway

In the clinic, Teresa sees people with a family or genetic risk for cancer — mostly but not limited to breast. She sets them up with any screening needed, such as a breast MRI, as well Bryan Medical Center will be relocating the radiology services from Pine Lake Campus to the new Bryan South Campus at 40th and Rokeby Rd, on the southwest side of the April Sampson Cancer Center.

Radiology procedures at this location will include: • Mammograms • Ultrasound • CT scan • MRI

Meet Bryan Cancer Program Operations Manager The Spa at April Sampson Cancer Center and Holistic Wellness Carly Oakland has been hired to be the Bryan Cancer Program operations manager at the April Sampson Cancer Center.

Originally from Alma, Nebraska, Carly earned her bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Prior to joining Bryan, she spent 14 years as a spa director for a luxury resort in Vail, Colorado, most recently with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation.

The Spa will be open to patients as well as the general public and will offer a variety of massage therapy, esthetic and nail services and a wide selection of clean and retail products. Along with the spa services and retail options will be holistic programming such as meditation sessions, yoga, sound baths and other alternative therapies, to allow participants to nurture their emotional, mental, Carly Oakland, physical and spiritual well-being. “I am honored to be a part of this organization and the commitment that’s been made to incorporating holistic wellness into the Cancer Center,” Carly said.

Carly and her husband, Derek, have a daughter, 4, a son, 2, and a German Shepherd named Odin. She enjoys family time, hiking, camping and snowboarding.

In this role, Carly will manage The Spa services and its employees, in addition to wellness offerings, spiritual care and outreach.
