Musical Natures This program proves that music can paint the most beautiful landscapes. Beethoven’s view on nature is most clear in his serene Sixth Symphony and Dvořák illustrates the beautiful Czech landscapes and fields in his charming Czech Suite. We also embark on a new journey with a piece by a young composer from Los Angeles.

BSO NEXT I N S P I R I N G T H E N E X T G E N E R AT I O N
Generous sponsors purchase tickets for students to attend our regular subscription concerts. While at the concerts the students are invited to attend a pre-concert lecture with our conductor, BSO musicians and guest soloists. They are given a complimentary snack and beverage during intermission and encouraged to stay after the concert to talk to the performers. Over 5,500 student tickets have been distributed since BSO Next started in 2014. This program has brought youth and excitement to our audience, as it develops the next generation’s appreciation for our orchestra. The NEXT program has expanded, offering dinners and tours of California State University, Bakersfield and Bakersfield College before the concert. This has provided a complete evening of experience and introduces students to the potential of further education after high school. Investing in our youth and opening the world of possibilities has been achieved through this outreach program. Please contact the BSO for sponsorship information. See the video link for more information about this program.

YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONCERTS Young People’s Concerts are specifically designed for students with connections to California Common Core State Standards as well as Visual and Performing Arts Standards. These concerts are offered in October, November and February and are made possible by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools and other generous sponsors. Every season, with all the Young People’s Concerts combined, the BSO educates approximately 12,000 students.
KIDS DISCOVER MUSIC Kids Discover Music brings the music to your school or community group with a string quartet. This allows the students a closer look at the instruments, how they are made and what they sound like. The quartet plays familiar music such as themes from: Sponge Bob Square Pants, The Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Caribbean and more. At the end of the session there is a Q&A for the students.
Health & Healing is a partnership between Dignity Health and the BSO to bring music into hospitals to aide healing and provide a calming atmosphere in what can sometimes be a stressful environment. Studies have proven that music has a positive effect on pain, anxiety, mood, heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory rate, all factors that are vital in healing and overall comfort.
