T

he Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra is proud to continue our Young People’s Concert (YPC) series with three all-new performances this season. Each performance is specifically designed to appeal to children and to support and augment music education programs in schools.

For over 30 years the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra has been committed to helping our young people understand the joy and beauty music can bring to their lives. More than 12,000 students attend these performances every year. Our sincere hope is to instill in each a love of music that will last a lifetime. T H E L I ST EN ER A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra This hilarious presentation by Magic Circle Mime Company and BSO is a light-hearted introduction to the concert orchestra and its relationship with the audience.

The art of listening requires talent and training; The Listener establishes this concept through humor, drama, and dance, leaving the audience appreciating their own abilities as well as those of the orchestra. MEET THE ORCHESTRA Tchaikovsky’s Sympho ny No. 4 "Meet the Orchestra" is our new program that gives our younger concertgoers an opportunity to explore the different, exciting aspects of orchestral playing and leadership as well as learn about the musician's perspective on music-making as part of an ensemble. Through the music of Tchaikovsky we will embark on an exciting journey, meeting and talking to the orchestra musicians, exploring the different emotions that music evokes, and learning more about the conductor's work.

M US I C A L NAT UR ES Petko Dimitrov, Guest Conductor How do composers use music to paint the beauty and force of nature? We travel through time with examples from Handel, Beethoven, De Falla and Stravinsky, plus the exciting music from the motion picture “Frozen.”
