MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK MEXICO presented its first 2023 edition in Guadalajara, Jalisco, a city that, due to its deep-rooted creativity, culture, history, tradition and clothing, is key in the current panorama of the national fashion industry.

The official fashion platform in Mexico presented the autumn/winter 2023 collections from April 26 to 28, betting on the multi-site experience, taking and recognizing spaces of culture and architecture in the state, making it clear that Jalisco is inserted in a contemporary conversation without leaving tradition behind.

The objective within the most important fashion platform in the country is to promote, in addition to the creative contribution of each designer, the places that highlight the culture and tradition of the ‘Perla Tapatía’.

This edition was based on a look from a fashion perspective at the local periphery and the Guadalajara tradition.

With the local focus as the central axis of this edition, designers such as: ABEL LÓPEZ, ALFREDO MARTÍNEZ, JULIA Y RENATA, NONAME AND OLMOS Y FLORES, were part of this edition; in addition to having new names within the platform, such as PAULINA LUNA and the TORONERO brand. LORENA SARAVIA from Mexico City, came to Guadalajara to present her collection after her participation in Madrid fashion week.

Paulina Luna

The designer presented a collection inspired by rationalist architecture. Garments with a clean and organized design with lines and geometric shapes as a base to create a harmonious structure. The textiles: silks, leathers, viscose, polyester, fabrics, wool and corduroy, are made in oversized silhouettes.

Lorena Saravia

The designer from Mexico City presented a collection inspired by the aesthetics of Mexico and family albums from the early 20th century. The cuts are elegant and defined and the silhouettes are classic, made in fabrics such as silk, leather, satin and denim. Saravia explores the deconstruction of basics, donning jean chaps or trapeze-shaped tops.

Julia Y Renata

The Franco sisters showed in the collection presented at Fashion Week Mexico, their love and roots for Guadalajara. Timeless garments and mixed silhouettes show the ability of these designers to create pieces that can be worn by anyone, regardless of gender or age. The combination of classic and functional clothing for urban life, characteristic of Julia and Renata, is one of the most avant-garde proposals within the national fashion industry.

Toronero

This emerging firm debuted on the country’s official fashion platform, presenting a collection inspired by returning to the origins and roots in Guadalajara and the concepts of: exodus, migration, multiculturalism and the return to origins through a nostalgic perspective. The Toronero collection is eclectic; combines traditional silhouettes, materials and pieces with an urban style, using a sober color palette and a variety of textures and fabrics.

Abel L Pez

Inspired by aerospace engineering and the concepts of strength, speed and dynamism, the collection pays homage to the Guadalajara woman through comfort and modernity. The color palette, which included shades of air force blues, baked paint ivory, khakis, blacks and tan accents. The combination of fabrics and colors, together with the Bulgari accessories, created a set of looks in loose silhouettes, functional for any occasion.

Olmos Y Flores

The Victor Olmos and Ali Flores collection is inspired by the coastal landscape of Mexico. The designers managed to capture the peace and serenity of the surroundings in their pieces, resulting in a series of relaxed garments with floral details and geometric shapes with light and comfortable silhouettes, perfect for a day at the beach or a night out. The printed prints on linen, cotton and pieces woven on a pedal loom achieve a harmonious fusion with handcrafted manufacturing and patterns of seabirds and a palette of warm colors.

No Name Studio

A collection that stands out for its temporality, deconstruction and sustainability, demonstrating that fashion can be attractive and responsible at the same time. The fusion of the urban with textile purification resulted in unique pieces that reflect the brand’s creativity and commitment to the environment. The concept of a utopian future where classic art nostalgia is mixed with elements of pop culture.

Alfredo Mart Nez

The designer, one of the greatest references in Guadalajara and national fashion, presented a collection inspired by the heroines of movie thrillers. The Martínez collection, made up of 35 looks, uses a vibrant color palette that includes black, white, royal blue, red and silver, and materials such as leather, patent leather, brocade, silk and textiles to emphasize the feminine silhouette. Specialty jewelry, with earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, complements outfits and adds to the collection.
